BO Edge Cold Standby System

Theoretically, if I create a cold standby BO Edge system that remains off unless the primary system goes down, will pointing it to the (1) primary filestore (I/O FRS') and (2) primary CMS system & audit databases (SQL 2005) cause any problems so long as the standby system isn't running at the same time as the primary system?
In a scenario where there aren't any continuously or regularly mirrored copies of these databases, and only the backups (*.bak), this would be in order to avoid having the additional manual process of restoring the backups to a secondary system and audit databases before switching on the standby BO Edge system.
So long as there is a network available backup of the filestore available, I could point the standby system to that filestore -- but unless the system & audit DB is backed up at the same time I'm fearful of synchronization issues.

This is allowed in the sense that (installing a cold standby, using a Production key) is not expressly forbidden in the license. That said, you could always remove the key from the stand by server once BO Edge is installed and configured, add the key when your primary server goes down.

  • Creation of a liveCache Standby system with automatic recovery

    Hello folks with MaxDB affinity
I'm currently studying the documentation about creating a standby system for a liveCache.
I would like to realize the same scenario as we've already done in our MSSQL environments: for every clustered MSSQL Server, we've created a standby instance, which is feeded via a logshipping job on the cluster side. The standby system recovers the logs automatically with a MSSQL job, too.
So, my finally question: since I found the word document (Standby_DB_MaxDB_eng.doc), which describes this steps in manual, I would like to know, if there's chance to do so automatically?
Our liveCache is a Windows 2003 Server (standby system, too).
    Thank you in advance!

  • ACE Cold Standby

    Hi,
I've got an question about ACE modules in HA, when one of the switch is reloaded a couple of the ACE contexts come up in cold standby. I've check the config in the contexts to confirm that they match and the same ft interface is used by all contexts. When I do a switchover them come up in hot standby, has anybody seen this before ? I've looked at a couple of bugs in the standby area but can't see one to match.
    After reload.

    My State : FSM_FT_STATE_ACTIVE
    Peer State : FSM_FT_STATE_STANDBY_COLD

    After switchover.

    The software version is 3.0(0)A1(4

do you have any files like script probes or ssl certificates/keys being used in the config ?
The files are not synchronized between the 2 ACE module, so if you copy a file on the active and use it, the standby will not accept the config if you do not upload the same file first.
Also, if you copy the file on the standby after changing the config, the ACE will stop auto-synch.
if this is not the case and you can reproduce the problem, you should open a service request with the TAC so that troubleshooting can be done.

  • Move Publisher backup to new server( Cold Standby Server) ?

We have CUCM cluster consist of 1 publisher, 4 subscriber and have installed a new node like another cluster's publisher(with diferent ip address from existing publisher) . When existing publisher goes down we will move publisher backup to new server and change publisher ip address to new server on existing subscribers.
    is it posible ?
Our aim is using new server for publisher down issue.(like cold standby server but diferent ip address from existing publisher)
Or is there any better way to install publisher backup on on branch? When publisher goes down we will use the new server like publisher.

    Hi
Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
    1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
    2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.

  • Cold Standby Server for Crystal Reports Server...

    Hi there,
We have the confirmation from Hong Kong SAP that Crystal Reports Server 2008 does not come with any clustering feature as Business Objects Enterprise does. We are to set up a cold standby server for the production server for high availability. Below is our procedures to work it out:
    1) we set up two machines for CRS 2008 with the same licence key and identical hardware; otherwise we clone the production machine to an identical hardware for a cold standby machine
    2) we are using our Oracle instance (same instance for both the production and the standby one) for CRS 2008 repository; we bring the production sever offline and perform the standby server installation of CRS 2008 without resetting the repository Oracle database
    3) we are to use a SAN LUN for storing the reports produced by CRS 2008
Once the production server does not work properly due to any hardware problem, we switch it off manually and turn on the standby machine and the Crystal Reports service should resume with no repository problem (all the settings) and no loss of printed reports. We would be grateful if you could confirm the feasibility of these procedures. Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Jason FU

Correct, CRS is for a single machine use only, that why it is not as expensive as the full BOE. Talk to Sales to upgrade.

  • Solaris 9 on Dell Power Edge 6650 x86 system

Does anyone have driver for PERC3 controller for Solaris 9, which comes with Dell Power Edge 6650?? We are tring to install Solaris 9 on Dell Power Edge 6650. The error we get is "No Hard Disks Fount".
    Thank U!

After thrashing for 2 weeks with the onboard 7880 SCSI and onboard 7890 RAID controllers, I was finally able to load up Solaris 8 on a Poweredge 2400. (4/01 build)
The only way I was able to do it was configure the server as below:
7880 SCSI: CD-ROM drive only device on this controller, set to ID 5.
7890 RAID controller: Disabled. Dont' believe Dell or Adaptec, this card will not work with Solaris 7 or 8. Even with the RAID chip removed and running as standard SCSI controller, it still would not work.
Adaptec 2940 U2W: 9G Quantum Atlas V drive with HP SureStore DAT 24i drive.
PERC II RAID controller yanked out of older 4100 system, 3 drives running RAID 5.
Important note: Do not attach anything to the 7880 controller besides the CD. The system will not boot if attempting to boot to the HD or if you attempt to boot from CD, it will hang at the adp.bef file.
    Hope this helps..
    Mike

  • Sizing a standby system for Maximum Availability

    - Having primary and secondary sites with the SAME database server configuration. The server configuration will either be a SMP system with lots of processors or a RAC consisting of a number of
    4-way SMP processors.
    - Data Guard shall be used for the standby "functionality". From a functional point of view, the standby can be either physical or logical.
    - The application is very "update/insert intensive" (~50%).
According to the documentation I've read, the recommendation seems to be to use physical standby,
but I am a little worried about performance using
a multiprocessor system for the "Log Apply Service".
If have understood it right, the RMAN process is single-threaded and can only exist in one instance, while the
LSP process manage several processes/execution threads.
Is it therefore possible that logical standby may have greater throughput than physical standby on a SMP system, or is the "Managed Recovery" always more effective".
Will I have problems wichever solution I chose, i.e
are there other "single-threads" that are likely
    to become bottlenecks.
    /jan

I think in u'r case standby managed will be a secured option b'coze when ever archives get generated it will be applied there won't be a archive loss

  • Problem after starting  OracleMSCSService on standby system

    Hello All,
    Platform : Windows-2008Server 32 bit,Oracle10gStandard,OracleFS 3.4
I have two cluster nodes with Microsoft clustering and Oracle Fail Safe. All my services were up and running on primary node but the OracleMSCSService was offline on the standby Node.
Now I want to know, If I manually start OracleMSCSService on the node which is standby at that time, does this cause Fail over to happen (i.e. Switching resources and services from primary node to standby node).
I encountered the following errors and failover happened when I started the OracleMSCSService on the Standby node
Error 1) Is alive poll failed on resource OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerFslnjseprdb with error code 1
Error 2) Error bringing resource OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerFslnjseprdb online with error code 10066.
I am trying to understand what went wrong and why did Failover happen after my above action?

  • BO Edge Licensing

I have a client who has 5 concurrent licenses for BO Edge 3.0.  I will be building a cold standby system on a virtual machine that will remain down unless their primary production environment fails.  I assume we can run the standby system on the same licenses, but wanted to put it out here to get a confirm/deny on this.
    Thanks.

This is allowed in the sense that (installing a cold standby, using a Production key) is not expressly forbidden in the license. That said, you could always remove the key from the stand by server once BO Edge is installed and configured, add the key when your primary server goes down.

  • Reg: Exporting the data from the Physical Standby database system.

    Hello all,
We have an oracle standard edition one 11gR1 environment, in which i need to export the data from the physical standby system.
So can anyone suggest me, How to do it safely (mount state).
    Regards,
    Konda.

    Hi,
You can use "exp" utility to export the database from a read only database whereas you can't export the read only database using "expdp".
Since you are using version 11g, it is not advisable to use exp. You can convert your standby to snapshot database, open read, write and export the database using expdp and then again convert it to standby.
This is a very easy process which we follow in our company to do testing when required.
Follow note 11g Using Snapshot Standby Database. (Doc ID 443720.1) for converting and usage.
    Thank you!!

  • Error while trying to setup a standby database.

While tring to setup a standby database (with version 8.1.7.0.0) i am running the command:
    recover managed standby database timeout 20;
Here is the errors i'm getting:
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/data/syndicate/standby/system/dup75_system01.dbf'
    ORA-16016: archived log for thread 1 sequence# 6518 unavailable
Although it says that file 1 was not restored from sufficiently old backup I've copied all the datafiles from the primary database at once - using a script.
The archived log sequence it asks for is non-existant - the last one i have is # 6517.
Thank you guys in advance for any ideas.
    Greg

I am having the same problem as you are when I am applying the current logs after successfully mounting standby database as seen below:
    SVRMGR> alter database mount standby database;
    Statement processed.
    SVRMGR> recover standby database ;
    ORA-00279: change 2939586 generated at 07/28/2002 01:09:33 needed for thread 5718
    ORA-00289: suggestion : C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY\ARCHIVE\STANDBYT571S00362.ARC
ORA-00280: change 2939586 for thread 5718 is in sequence #362
    Specify log: {=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
    CANCEL
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
    ORA-01110: data file 1: 'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\STANDBY\SYSTEM01.DBF'
    SVRMGR>
Just before copying the datafiles from the primary database I did the following:
    Connected to the primary database:
    1. alter database create standby controlfile as .....
    2. alter system switch logfile
    3. shutdown normal
    4. took a cold backup (including archived redo logs)
Copied the data files, redolog files, archived redo logs and standby controlfile to standby database:
    1. made copies of standby controlfile over current standby ones.
    2. startup nomount (the standby database)
    3. alter database mount standby database;
    4. recover standby database;
That's when it asks for an archived redo log that does'nt exist and when I enter cancel, that's when I get the above error?
Am I not applying the latest redo logs to the latest cold backup of the primary database?
Your help would be much appreciated!

  • Data Guard Broker and Cold Failover clusters

    Hi,
I wanted to use Data Guard Broker to control primary/standby systems on AIX clusters but found that without Oracle clusterware it is not supported on failover of a database to another node (unless you drop and recreate the configuration which in my opinion is not support at all!).
The 11g documentation states that DG Broker offers support for single instance databases configured for HA using Oracle Clusterware and "cold failover clusters".
Does anyone know whether this support for cold failover clusters in 11g means "proper support" i.e the configuration detects that the hostname has changed and automatically renames it so it continues to work?, or is the support in 11g the same as that in 10g?.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Jan,
    We already use virtual hostnames.
When I set up the configuration the hostname for the databases default to the server name. The only way I know of changing this is to disable the configuration, then use the "edit database...set property" command but when I enable the configuration again it reverts back to its previous value.
    regards,
    Andy

  • Cold backup on New instance

    Hi,
Our client has provided us with the cold Backup (the file system) of the pre-prod system which runs Oracle 9.2.0.8.0 on HP-Unix.
We want to restore this backup on Windows machine.
Can anybody provide help or some document which can guide us through the steps to setup new instance to restore the cold backup ?
Is this the same as creating standby system ?
    Thanks a lot :)

    >> we are trying to re-create the database to use the available backup. I think this is a somewhat like creating a standby database (without continuous synchronization)
In that case, you can not utilize your cold backup on Windows machine at all, Until and unless you have the same OS, you can not prepare the standby database.
Please read the below URL for requirements for deploying Standby.
