BO WebI publication XI 3

Hi experts,
I am currently creating PDF publication based on WebI reports. My client refuse to use the standard access to publication files (right click on publication -> History -> left click on the instance -> access to the PDF) because he thinks that it is too complicated for end-users.
We proposed to use Business Objects Indox or to send the files by email but it has been refused.
Finally they want the PDF to be directly available into Infoview folders. A folder would correspond to one publication.
Do you know if it possible to publish the PDF directly toward these folders ? Do you have a solution to match with the customer needs ?
Thanks for help.
Best regards,
Bertrand

Hello Bertrand,
I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to administration and configuration of BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, and Crystal Reports Server.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all BOE Administration queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
Best regards,
Falk

  • WebI Publication: Logical OR in Profile Values

    Hello,
In my WebI publication I am using profile values, which I defined for every user.
For example I have two profiles: "Employee City" and "Sales City". For my user I defined the the values Employee City=New York, Sales City=New York.
How can I define an logical OR between those profiles, so that a row shows up in the report, if the dimension [Employee City]="New York" OR [Sales City]="New York"?
    I am using BO 4.0 SP7 Patch 2
    Thanks!

The only solution would be implementing in with Row Level Security. Or has anyone a better idea?
    Thanks!

I have acrobat pro 9 and in-design. Basically I have a 28 page publication that I know how to save as a pdf, would but like take it, after it is in acrobat, and save as a web publication. I have using iWeb for my web authoring program. Well if anyone would look that link about, I this I like to know to do. Not even sure in it can to done in iWeb. If not and there is another way that would be great as well.

  • WebI Publication without charts

    Hello,
I created a WebI publication, that sends a report as PDF containing charts to several users. Unfortunately the report is created without charts, instead just a white space is shown.
I know that it has to do with the Vizualisation Service and the parameters
Visualization Engine Swap Timeout (in seconds)
Visualization Engine Cleanup Timeout (in seconds)
I set both to the maximum value of 3600. But the publication runs longer than 1 hour.
In some cases it's possible to split the publication or the report but this would be just a workaround. How can I get the charts for reports running >1 hour?
    Thanks!

    Hi Sathish,
It depends on your publication settings
One database fetch for all recipients: One database query for all recipients, filter is applied on report level
One database fetch per recipient: One database query for each recipient, depending on your job server settings the reports refresh and generations run parallel, it means for example that 10 queries are  executed in parallel on your database

  • Webi Publication - Do not send report by email when zero records

    Hello,
I have a report that I am scheduling.  It is using dynamic recipients and personalization based on the recipients.  Some of the recipients will have zero records for the report and I do not wish to send the report by email to them.  I have searched and found a "workaround" of adding a conditioned error in the footer to get a division by zero error if there are no records.  However, the report still runs and gets sent to the recipient with no data.  Any way to accomplish what I want to do?
I am using SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 2 Version: 14.1.2.1121
My data sources are Excel, so I am not using a Universe for this particular application.
    Thank You in advance.

I have been trying different options and the most promising one would be to generate a list of dynamic recipients that have data and output it to Excel file.  I can use that Excel file as data source for a Webi Document that is going to be used as the dynamic recipient document in a publication.
One problem is I cannot automate the creation and replacement of an Excel file in InfoView folders.  This means I would have to update the Excel file manually.  Also it seems like the Webi document used for dynamic recipients must be refreshed and saved, otherwise the old list of recipients is used by the publication.

  • 4.1 Webi Publication does not have Delivery Rules

I have created a publication for a Webi report in 4.1 BOE. I noticed that the publication does not have an option for Delivery Rules, which is available for Crystal Reports. I'm not sure if that is by Design, as I don't know why it would be available for one and not the other. Here's a summary of the issue:
My publication uses Dynamic Recipients which number over a hundred. Anytime the publication is run, only a few will actually have a report that contains data and is based on if they have posted data for the week or not. Thus it's always an unknown on who should receive a report before run time. So what winds up happening is I get a publication that emails a 100 or so blank reports and about 4 or 5 reports that actually contain data. Obviously the intent is to only send out the 4 or 5 reports that actually contain data. The Publication itself actually works as intended, but as I mentioned before Crystal has Delivery Rules that allow you to "Deliver only when report contains data" which is what I need in Webi.
Does anyone know of a way to get this to work in Webi without the Delivery Rules option? The workaround of course is to re-create the Webi report as a Crystal report and to create a publication for the Crystal report. But the desire is for this to be a Webi report so I am trying to figure out a solution.

    Hi,
Gill is right, on page 133 of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform Document Version: 4.1 Support Package 3 - 2014-03-26 Business Intelligence Platform User Guide, it states that "This feature is not available for Web Intelligence documents"
I'd suggest you to vote for the "Delivery Rule for web-i based publications" on SAP Idea place on https://ideas.sap.com/ct/ct_a_view_idea.bix?c=1DA84A30-1E5A-43FA-95C5-857A8B99D197&idea_id=7E9C5B32-62A9-48BA-9867-BDF2429FB5FE.

  • Profile Target with 2 Filters: Is it possible for WebI Publication?

    Hi Guru's,
My requirement is I have a report with Sales Representatives in a Web-I report coming from 2 different objects. The source tables are also different. The data is merged into the report level. My requirement is I need to filter for Sales Representative name and use publisher to do a report bursting. But in Profile Targets they allow to just put one filter. And with that my purpose is not solved. Is there any way I can have 2 filters in Profile Target and use an "AND" condition so that Sales Reps from both objects are filtered.

No, the email address is the "username" for the Sync account, you need a different email address for each Sync account that you setup.

  • PDF Security in Webi Publicaiton

    Hi,
We are using boxir3.1 version of Business Objects. We have a requirement to ensure security of PDF, generated through publication. We created reports in webi and publish to users email.
We have to ensure security features like password protection, disable print etc.
Is this possible in webi publication. I know in crystal publication password protection feature is there.
Why this feature is not there in webi? Can i exted this feature to webi publication?
What about the disabling the print option.
    Please comment on these questions
    Regards
    Baby

This functionality is currently not supported by SAP Business Objects 3.1, however you can apply security after the pdf is generated. In BO 4.0 this functionality exists. Password protection can also be done from the Adboe side. Kindly refer SAP note 1302401 to verify the same.
You can also try to secure the pdf-instances of report scheduling in BO trough deactivating the PDF-SecurityOption "PdfWriter.AllowCopy"
publication extensions should offer this possibility to secure pdf-files by scheduling. Unfortunately only for Crystal Reports files. But we need it for Web Intelligence docs ..
SAP also offers an SDK sample for this purpose ..
    [SAP Sample Code: Java Enterprise BE12 Create-Publication CR-PDF |www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/9074bb6f-3857-2c10-bcab-be13735881d4]
the interesting part of this sample is the following ..
    mergeOption.securityOption = new SecurityOption(PDF_USER_PASSWORD, PDF_OWNER_PASSWORD, PdfWriter.AllowCopy| PdfWriter.AllowPrinting | PdfWriter.AllowScreenReaders)

  • Embedded Metadata Preservation and publication

Will Muse allow me to publish web pages in html5 that expose my metadata currently embedded in photographs cataloged Adobe LR?
We have populated the IPTC and IPTC Extension fields for our images with important metadata and do NOT want it stripped upon web publication.

    Andrew:
What you describe is much like how Google Picasa Web Albums and Flickr "used to" do this.  The original was stored "as-is" and the images that were downsized for preview and thumbnail were stripped of all metadata.  After a number of users complained about this issue, they now preserve at least some of the embedded metadata for the previews and other derivative files. If I recall correctly, Flickr only preserves those values that are part of the older IPTC schema known as IIM or Information Interchange Model -- but this would mean that at minimum the owners copyright notice would remain intact (as well as caption/description, basic location information, credit and keywords).
While better than nothing, that's still going against principle five of the Embedded Metadata Manifesto, "Other  metadata should only be removed from files by agreement with their copyright  holders." (http://www.embeddedmetadata.org/embedded-metatdata-manifesto.php).   Muse seems to ignore principals one through five in regards to all images except for the original!
Does the Muse system give any warning to users that the application is removing all the metadata from these derivative images?  I would consider that to be the least that could be done. Then those that don't care about having additional potential "Orphan Works" floating out in public can continue. Those that do care about protecting their intellectual property can opt not to continue (until or if this is fixed).
Why doesn't Muse operate like the Save for Web & Devices (SFW&D) save option in Photoshop?  It is part of the Adobe family right?  The default with SFW&D will at least retain the creator and copyright notice, though the user can use the pull down menu to choose several other options including ALL.  Talk to Alan Lilich (one of your Adobe Engineers) about how much overhead this really takes with most files. He and Dennis Walker from Camera Bits (makers of Photo Mechanic) both backed me up on this point when I presented findings from the SAA Survey of Stock Images at the Microsoft Pro Photo Summit in 2007 (Video summary of that presentation).  Even for smaller files it's really not that exhorbitant. See point three in the "Metadata Myths" article at (http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/blog/top-metadata-myths.html) for details.
It's a real shame that you don't at least give the user the option of leveraging that embedded metadata already in the image by inserting it into an area around the image on the page. While having all embedded metadata appear automatically is an option,  I'm sure that for some this would be annoying as they would have to then  cut that copy from the page. However, is there a reason why there could not be a check book that the user can check to load this info into the Page text when the image is loaded?  That would save a lot of opening the image in another application to gain access to the metadata (or going to Photoshop or Bridge and using File Info) -- then Copying and going back to the page to Paste in the info would take.
Many page layout programs for news operations automatically load the Contents of the Caption (Description) and Credit fields below an image when it's place into a layout.  I don't see any reason why Muse couldn't adopt the same approach. Or at least have this as an "option" in the preferences for a user.
Should I log this as a "feature request"?

  • Web viewer issues

Help! I've set up my account so there is a web viewer version of our magazine. I've enabled the web viewer in DPS account administration, published a web only version of our magazine, constructed the web viewer parameter with the intention of embedding the iframe in our website. I tried embedding the viewer in the sample files provided in this article - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/embedded-web-viewer.html without luck. I can live without embedding the web viewer for now. I just want to view the publication in a browser to see if it's working. For the life of me, I can't figure out what the url would be to view the un-embedded content viewer?
Why does Adobe not mention a url anywhere in their guides so you can view your web publication? They walk you through creating the parameter, but never reveal the first part of the url. I'm guessing the url is - http://contentviewer.adobe.com/ with your individual web viewer parameter attached. I only found the url by locating the lone example of a web content viewer on the site and using the url - http://contentviewer.adobe.com/s/OHSU%20Extra/b58273a80e044872af6f3d626b8432a3/OHSU%20Extr a%20Spring/Extra%20Spring%202013%20Simulation.html#lastPage
My content viewer is not showing up using http://contentviewer.adobe.com/my%parameter
Not sure where to go from here? Are there any common roadblocks when a web viewer? Anything I could have missed?
    Thanks

    What version is the app?
Perhaps you can reply offline and let me know which publication you're referring to, what issue and what article?
I suspect that you might have a web rendition available.  Also, is www.ourwebsite.com specified in your account settings as the hosting URL, the redirect URL or the Fulfillment level reached URL , and/or the paywall button URL

  • PS7.0.1 Could not open file because it is not the right kind of

    Hi:
With prior versions of PS I could open a .pdf, either from a single page file or from the whole document. But now using PS7.0.1 the subject error message is all that I get. I'm using a registered version of Acrobat 9 Pro to do the extraction. The goal is to extract a drawing from the pdf document, clean it up in PS and save for web publication.
I've looked at the forums, knowledgebase and Google with no luck.
Any ideas on how to get it to work?
    Have Fun,

    Hi Buko:
    -------SOLVED--------
In Acrobat under File Export there is an option for images in a number of different formats. Just the thing.
    Thanks again & Have Fun,

It sounds as if your browser and some of your apps are not color-managed.  This is pretty typical.  Even IE9 is only partially color-managed.
You can expect color-managed and non-color-managed applications to show you different things with the same images.  How different will depend upon how different your monitor color profile is from the image's color profile.
For web publication and most general use, experts usually advise saving images with the sRGB profile.  If such images, saved through the Save for Web & Devices function, look different to you than you expect, it may be that your input images have previously been saved in another color space.
You should really try to get your head around color-management by reading more on it.  It can seem baffling and it's difficult to understand without some background.  A quick web search turns up many overviews.  Beware, though, even people writing articles sometimes don't fully understand it.

  • PDF File Exports Slow in Intenet Explorer

I am exporting a PDF file for web publication. I discovered during a recent beta test that subscribers have problems opening the PDF file if using Internet Explorer, but not with other browsers.
I create the PDF file by exporting from InDesign CS6 and dropping the doc onto my website. The link shared with readers is directly to the file on the webserver. The file reportedly opens easily in IOS, Firefox and Chrome. The file is rediculously slow opening and on most occasions will not open in Internet Explorer. I find little searching for solutions on the web or Adobe site, so come here.
The file opens locally in IE without issue.
In InDesign CS6, I am using the default PDF (interactive) setting for export. Only exception is with images that are sampled at "high" quality rather than "medium." The PDF files contains both URL, page, and mail links. File size is roughly 7 meg, not a large animal these days.
I have a password on the PDF file as the intent is to make the file accessible to a subscriber list only. Running IE9,  the file is quick to start opening but bogs once the password prompt appears. The load quickly slows and in most instances hangs without fully opening.
The file opens from the webserver using an iPad, Mac, or iPhone in seconds and without flaw. Same with Firefox and Chrome. Internet Explorer is the only outlier.
Should note the above is based on feedback from about 10 beta testers. The problem is reproducilble for me as well. Uncertain where to begin looking to understand this one.
I have tried separately opening and optimizing the exported file, then serving an optimized version. The file size is slightly smaller, quality is poorer and I have the same problem.
Why should IE behave differently than other browers on a PDF export file? Ideas? Suggestions?
    Dave

Try flattening the pdf. See if that makes a difference.

  • How to create a Lab channels substitute in FW CS4 or PSE 7

I'd like create Lab channels substitute or something similar in Fireworks or PSE for more accurate photo retouching.
I mean noise reduction, sharpening and special cases of isolation. All images will be intended for web publications.
If possible I don't want to buy PS since I have acccess to FW and PSE.

This has nothing to do with color management, you'd be better off posting in the Fireworks forum.

    No.
(I'd put the link up but I think Verizon would delete/edit my post).
From a New York Time's piece, "It was Apples decision to design the iPhone 5 so that customers could only make voice calls and do Internet activity simultaneously only over Wi-Fi, not over Verizon cell network."
    The reason why...
"The explanation for this, it turns out, is complicated. The technology  in 4G LTE networks does not currently handle voice transmissions; it  only does data. So when you place a phone call on a 4G LTE smartphone,  it’s actually rolling back to the carrier’s older second- or  third-generation network, according to AnandTech, a Web publication that  does deep analysis on hardware."
