Board outline / power plane clearance

How do I set the clearance between power planes and the board outline to 0?
I have tried setting options > pcb properties > copper layers > board outline clearance to 0 and changing the "clearance to copper areas" in the design rules to 0, but STILL there is a small space between the two. How do I correct this?
thankyou
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi PGO,
There are two places you need to change:
1.  options > pcb properties > copper layers > board outline clearance
2.  Double click on the copper area then select the "General" tab, change the "Clearances" spin box to 0.
You should talk to your manufacturer, many of them do not recommende doing this

  • Power Plane Problem: Only one layer as an option.

    Dear all,
I try to use Create Power Plane tool as usually, but for some reason bottom layer is already selected and it can not be changed. I am using dual layer board, so there should be also top layer. I can draw traces and everything except the power plane on the top layer.
I have made many dual layer boards without any problems with Power Planes. I can't figure out what I am doing differently from the previous boards.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Try this:
    1.  Select Edit>>Selection Filter, disable all filters except for "Enable polygon", the default toolbars should have the filters option so you don't have to go back to the menu.
    2.  Select Edit>>Select All to select all copper area and power plane on the work area,
    3.  Press Delete,
Now try placing the power plane again.  If this doesn't work, please send me the file, I will see if I can fix it for you.  Create a service request at:

  • Hmm.....odd issue with power plane net connection during autoroute

I'm trying to use a copper plane as a heatsink and when i tell it to connect the power plane to the pad of the regulator it accepts it.  During autorouting, the router makes the connection to the plane since it is valid, but now the clearance is tunneling into the plane and causing a disconnect........WTF.....I can't seem to correct it.  Any idea what I'm missing here??  See image......thanks.....

yes this is the thread........I didn't do a drc check on it, this is the result that is left after the autorouter completes.  I can do it manually as you mention, but the autorouter leaves this.  I have done a DRC after the fact and it always comes back as missing connections because of this behaviour.  My quick workaround was to create to lines in a "cross" across the pad, and then put a polygon around it, but this is half ass.  The net is 83, and you can see it generate the thermal relief after I assign the polygon to the net.  Then the autorouter trys to place a line to the polygon entity but the the clearnace rules are hollowing out the connection......weird.......and annoying.......and killing my productivity to use copper areas.  If you could, try to place a regulator, a polygon, connect it to the tab......and then run the autorouter that requires multiple connections to the same net, the autorouter should yield that result......

  • How to propagate the changes made in Essbase outline to Planning

    Hi,
I have created a userdefined dimension called 'Product' with one member 'SampleProduct' in planning. I logged into essbase and accessed the outline created for the plan type. In the outline, under product dimension, I have created one more member called 'ChanduProduct' and saved the outline. what should I do to see the new member created in essbase outline in Planning application?
Similarly I changed the density of Product dimension from sparse to dense in essbase. How can I propagate this change to planning application? Please tell me whether we can do this operation or not. If yes, how to do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chandu

    Hi Chandu,
the outline of planning is stored in sql repository.
when you refresh the planning application using manage database in administration; all changes from planning will propagate to essbase.
you should not make changes in essbase outline.
all changes in outline should go through planning web application (this is one of the best practices)
    hope this helps.

  • How do I save a board outline as part so that it can be placed on new designs?

I made the mistake of using one of Ultiboards PC104 predefined board outlines. The problem is the board outline screw holes are the size of screw head not the thread. Is there a way that I can make board outlines that I can "Place" in a similair fashion to the "Pre-Defined Board Outlines" supplied with Ultiboard?

    Hi there,
You can make your own board outlines that you can save to your database. You need to:
Draw your board template with all the outline, connectors and mechanical holes, etc
    Select what you have drawn
    Click Tools>>Database>>Add Selection to Database
Add your board template to your User or Corporate database as you usually would. You can make subcategories and organise your database by components, board outlines, etc.
     Hope that answers your question.

  • Bug with currently selected and customised power plan.

I have reproduced this twice now. I customised my power plans (the balanced and power saver but not
the high performance). My personal settings are to never sleep and for sleep not to be an option. On two occasions I have returned to the PC and found it "shut down". The only way to reboot was via the main power on/off switch (its a laptop).
Checking the power plans shows that the "sleep after" settings have reverted to the Windows default on the in use and active power plan. The inactive plan retains its custom settings as can be seen.

    Hi Shivraj,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to change the power plan setting to high performance, right?
The benefit to set the server power plan setting to high performance is for SQL Server to have consistent, predictable and high performance.
According to the test in this article:
Windows Server Power Management Effect on SQL Server, when the Windows Server power plan is changed to High Performance, CPU core speed ramp
up, SQL Server parse and compile time and SQL Server execution time reduce, which will make SQL Server queries run
     faster.
However, if power savings are more important than fast, predictable performance, then you might leave the power plan as Balanced.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • Can I prevent a user from Deleting the Group Policy deployed power plan?

I have Power Manager version 3.20 installed and am using the Group Policy template to deploy a customized power plan.  I do not want my users to have the ability to delete this custom plan, but I cannot find the option in the Group Policy to change the setting that would grey-out the Delete button in Power Manager.
I have located the registry value that changes the function of Power Manager, it is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\PWRMGRV\PowerSchemes\42617646-BC99-48E2-B3AF-C562C25F4098\ProhibitModification.  If the value is 0, then the delete button is available.  If the value is 5, then the delete button is greyed-out.
The problems is that the Power Plan ID number (the 42617646-BC99... part in the reg key above) changes from computer to computer.  That ID string seems to be tied somehow to the specific computer.  So, I cannot just create a Group Policy Preference to change that value in the registry, because that value is always going to have a different name.
The computers are all ThinkPad T400 model and are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
Can anyone suggest a different method to change this setting?  If not, is there any chance that the Power Manager application can be upgraded to include this control?
    Thank you!

    welcome to the forum!
to add to what gan said, page 6 of the power manager deployment guide covers this policy over active directory.

  • How do I create a void in a power plane?

I want to remove an area of copper from a power plane but can't work out how to do this.
I'm sure it's obvious if you know how!
Please could a kind soul point me in the right direction?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi David:
If the delete island way works, that's great.  Still, I think I'm either not explaining my solution correctly or understanding the problem you're describing. Even if it doesn't help you, it might help others, so I'll describe with an example.
The example I'm describing is attached below.
There are three nets (GND, 1, and 2) in the example, and two parts. The two parts are connected by nets 1 and 2 and GND is assigned to the power plane. Once I placed the power plane, I setup the groups and keep out to create the void.
    1. Place > Keep-in/Keep-out Area. Draw the area where you want the void. You will have DRC errors at this point, and we will now remove them.
    2. We need to assign the net GND to a net group so it can be associated with the Keep-out area. Tools > Group Editor. On the Net Groups tab, click Add, and create a
new group GROUP_GND. Then assign only net GND to the group.
    3. Select the Keep-in/keep-out layer in the design toolbox. (The selection filter can be set to Enable Selecting Other Objects). Select the Keep-out area, then Edit > Properties. The Keep-in/keep-out properties should show. On the Keep-in/keep-out tab, check the box next to Net Group. Then click the Options... button beside Net Group. Uncheck All Groups at the bottom, and check GROUP_GND. Click OK, click OK.
    4. The DRC errors should be gone because the keep-out only applies to net group GROUP_GND.
I hope this explanation clears up my ambiguity from before, even if it doesn't help in the end.

  • How to edit Power plans (SCM power plans)

    Hello!
Like topic here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=250101.0 (where it's left unanswered and with error link)
I'm interested in, how to edit these power plans to get each time the same personalised power plan. I have noticed the EPS file but i can not edit it.
    Please help.
    Thank You

    Hi spam,
Don't bother with custom or "personalized" power plans as long as the SCM is running because the SCM overrides them.
The SCM uses the built-in power plans that come with Windows (balanced, high performance, power saver, etc.). They can be edited from Windows Power Options area. Use the "advanced" settings for full control.
We didn't want our power settings to ever change, so we manually configured all of the built-in power plans that came with Windows. They are all the same now and, regardless which Eco mode is selected in the SCM, our power plan settings stay the same.
    Kind regards, David

  • GS60 2PC changes power plan itself and always gone back to default

    Hi all
I bought this laptop from Taiwan so that is probably one of my power plan is random code.
The main problem I would like to ask is that when I changed to another power plan, it automatically changes back to this random coded plan. Why I want to change is because this random coded plan has PCI management as moderate power saving and maximum cpu as 70%, so when I am playing game it is very laggy with this plan. Even though I change the setting to higher performances, it automatically changes back to its default setting.... I tried to delete this plan but eventually it comes back as it changes automatically.
However, I found out that if i close the SCM programme it does not change the power plan automatically any more. But all my function keys will be disable if i close the SCM programme.
So I am wondering if anyone had the same issue as i do before could give me some helps. Because this really annoys me.. I have already tried recovering the system back to factory default.
Another problem is that my Sound Blaster Cinema does not change the sound effect even i open and close it.
I would like to show you some images for better understanding but somehow i am not able to upload them.
Thank you so much for your helps!

    Quote from: gilbert1019 on 05-June-15, 18:23:36
    How about this:
Switch ECO mode in SCM to OFF.  Then go to windows control panel set "High performance".
As for Sound blaster Cinema, have you enable sound effect in its control panel?
Hi, It actually stopped changing if i change it to ECO OFF mode! But why if i put in gaming mode it keep changing back to that random code mode and start lagging? Somehow i feel like not understanding what these modes are for. I thought it is same as changing to high performance in the battery option?
Also for the Sound Blaster Cinema yes i did turn on the sound effect.
    Thanks for you reply!

  • Thinkpad Yoga: Lenovo Power Plans

Hello i upgraded my Yoga to Windows 8.1. Enterprise but no i lost my lenovo energy plans. Can you tell me how to get them like energysaver again?
Can anyone export them like here http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-import-and-export-power-plans-schemes-in-windows-7/ for me please?
    Regards Zack

Then, about controlling at which level does the battery start charging and at which level it stops, I have found that the Power Managment software extention is not compatible with the Thinkpad Yoga... Which is a pity to my mind. The Lenovo staff justify it by saying that it is not harmful to let the battery fully charged and plugged until it is the case during years non stop.
But I would like to tell here that since we see on several websites that a battery has a better lifetime if charged at 80-90% rather than 100%, if the software engineers could make the software compatible without too much effort, that would be great.
I have also discussed with other people about the F1-F12 keys configuration in the BIOS, and we agree in general that it's very frustrating to see some useful possibilities disabled on newest computers, especially knowing that it is supposed to be professional machines...
I hope then that the Lenovo staff is opened to customers' wishes and works to make the best of Lenovo's computers experience.
    All the best.

  • Simple Tap 2.0 causes power plan idle timer ineffective

Hi, I installed Simple Tap 2.0 and power management 3.62, and I found that simple tap causes power plan idle timer ineffective e.g.. the display wouldn't dim or turn off, machine wouldn't go sleep or hibernate after idling certain time.
So I disabled simple tap run when windows starts.
Btw, power management 3.62 can't uninstall successfully. I uninstall it but after rebooting the system, it is still running.
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards,
    Chien-Tung

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I was not able to reproduce either of these issues that you mentioned:
    - With SimpleTap 2.0 running, all of the Power Manager idle timers took effect as expected (screen dim, screen off, system sleep, etc).  I am using the default "Energy Saver" profile in Power Manager.
    - After uninstalling Power Manager 3.62 and rebooting, Power Manager isn't running anymore.  What makes you think it is still running?
Can you please give some more details about the problems you are seeing?  What system and OS are you running?
