Body blurring into footnotes

Hello!  I am having a problem with a Pages document that has many footnotes.  On some pages the body of the text is blurring into/overlayed with the footnotes.  I can find no pattern to this; it is not happening any more frequently on pages with many footnotes than others.  I've tried changing the bottom margin to no avail.  I attached a picture of the problem.  Any advice?  Thank you!

Probably just another bug in Pages 5.
So many, so much wasted time!

  • How to motion blur an object into a scene?

I am using match move to attach an image to an object in my video.  The object sometime moves around enough where there is significant motion blur.  Obviously I need the image that I am adding to match this motion blur.  The motion blur filter doesn't seem to work for this (at least by itself).  All it does it make the image blurry within side of the bounds of the image.  The motion blur in any given frame is happening along a path, and the image needs to be stretched along that path as well as blurred into the background.  How do I accomplish this effect?

    Hi,
You can turn on motion blur. Have a look in the view menu to turn this on. Have a look in the project properties to set the number of samples and shutter angle.  However this is a per project setting rather than by layer.
Or you could a directional blur and keyframe the amount as you need.

  • Splitting Long Footnotes

Does anyone know how to divide up long footnotes so that they run over two pages?
My thesis has several very long footnotes and Pages puts the entire footnote at the bottom of the relevant page (which is fine and good most of the time). But if the footnote is too long to fit on the current page, then Pages jumps the body text and footnote to the next page, often leaving me with a good half page or more of empty space. At worst, I get pages with a couple of lines of body text at the top and the rest just blank.
There's no way I can submit something that looks this ridiculous!

Thanks Eric for the response! I had actually given up on this thread, so it's great to hear from fellow sufferers.
Truth be told: I've dumped Pages now and have swapped to the amazingly competent NisusWriterExpress (www.nisus.com). I'm trying to keep my Mac a Microsoft free zone. Pages seems to be nice for hobbyists or school kids doing image-intensive reports, but unfortunately it just isn't good enough for serious academic work (at least in the humanities). There is in fact a 'workaround' for long footnotes: compile them all as endnotes. There are however 2 catches:
    1. Endnotes are unacceptable at my faculty (I'm located in Germany), and
    2. Pages doesn't do endnotes!! You have to write them into a separate document and then paste it in at the end.
When I get a free moment, I think I'll be visiting eBay with my serial number. But I might just wait for Steve's big announcement tomorrow: everyone thinks its a video iPod, but maybe it's all been organised to announce a Pages update :0)

  • Adobe Flash CS5 - Blur effect & tween not working

When I try to create a tween for the blur, so it will blur into focus, the tween just wont work. I go to frame 130, keyframe, add blur filter, create clasic tween. But when i go to frame 131 it instantly pops into focus instead of going along the tween time span to blur in gradually(I have the next keyframe at 160). Anyone have any ideas?! This boggles my mind!
Any help or suggestions would be deeply appreciated
    Thanks in advance...

What type of textfield are you using?  What type of symbol have you created it as?  If you can show a screenshot of the stage and timeline for what you have it might help to identify the problem.

  • Looking for a script to connect bodytext to footnote and cross-references

    Hi,
    Need to do the following:
I was provided with separate (tagged-text) files: bodytext, (foot)notes and cross-references. Now I am looking for a solution (script?) that can do the following:
to restore the connection between the body-text, the footnotes and te cross-references after placing these in a document in Indesign.
The cross-references should appear (in anchored text-frames) in the margin and the notes in a separate frame at the bottom of the page. If possible in the same way as footnotes in Indesign appear, but in a separate frame to be able to do some more formatting than native footnotes would accept.
I have tested the plugin: Side Heads from InTools, and tis works well with Indesign files tthat contain footnotes. But this doesn't work with separately placed footnotes from a tagged-text-file, as they re not knotted together.
I can't do any scripting myself.
I would appreciate any help, and I am looking forward to your response...
    Regards,

The first thing to do is:
regexp "match regexp = ([0-9]+)" $_cli_result match count
    if $count eq 0
    exit 0
    end
The second is a bit more challenging.  I think this will work:
cli command "show call active voice br"
    foreach line $_cli_result "\n"
    regexp "^([0-9a-zA-Z]+) : " $line match callid
    if $_regexp_result eq 1
      continue
    end
    regexp "^dur 1d" $line
    if $_regexp_result eq 1
cli command "show call active voice br | section $callid"
      syslog msg "$_cli_result"
    end
    end

  • Embedding HTML into forms to make 3rd party Host Work

My form looks wonderful!  Only one problem.... It doesn't work!
It won't says the form was submitted successfully, but I don't receive it.  After reading a thread that said I have to make sure my host provider enables PHPmail, I contacted them they said I need to enter the following:
    mail("receiving-email","subject","message-body","headers");
Into the form to make it work.
    Is this right?
If so, how and where in the form do I embed it.  I don't want to screw up the widget.  I opened the html page for the form, but again I don't know where to put this line, if at all.

  • Reading email in outlook with c# and parsing the body

    Hello,
I don't know where to start.
The organization I work for uses different user web forms to collect user/client feedback. Instead of having those forms populate a table, they have them emailed to me as text in the body of an email for me to decide what to do with. My (local) boss wants
me to upload the data into our CRM. Everyone expects me to do that by hand ( which is now getting out of hand :D.)
I need to read an outlook 2010 email in a shared mailbox (to which I do not know the account password for mail server access) and parse the body data into a data table.
If I can get some help understanding how to access the individual email file(s) and read the data into a string array or something that achieves this result, I can take it from there.  All suggestions are welcome however going back to the admin who
is in another country, won't make changes and doesn't speak english are not paths I can follow.
My glass here, is half full with the opportunity to resolve this challenge.

    Hello,
You can develop a VBA macro for handling new emails in the shared mailbox. I'd suggest starting from the
Getting Started with VBA in Outlook 2010 article. If you see a shared mailbox in your Outlook profile you can subscribe to the Inbox events (for example, ItemAdd) in the following way:
    Dim WithEvents myInboxMailItem As Outlook.Items
Private Sub myInboxMailItem_ItemAdd(ByVal Item As Object)
Call MsgBox("Item Added", vbOKOnly, "[email protected]")
    End Sub
    Private Sub Initialize_Handler()
    Dim fldInbox As Outlook.MAPIFolder
    Dim gnspNameSpace As Outlook.NameSpace
Set gnspNameSpace = Outlook.GetNamespace("MAPI") 'Outlook Object
    Set fldInbox = gnspNameSpace.Folders("[email protected]").Folders("Inbox")
    Set myInboxMailItem = fldInbox.Items
    End Sub
    Private Sub Application_Startup()
    Call Initialize_Handler
    End Sub
In the ItemAdd event handler you can get all the required information parse the message body. The Outlook object model provides
three main ways for working with item bodies: Body, HTMLBody and WordEditor.

  • How to divide footnotes over two pages?

Im typesetting a book with hundreds of (sometimes long) footnotes. I want a rule above the first footnote of the page. I also want footnotes to divide over two pages, if necessary. I had no problems with this in CS4 (but maybe the circumstances were different). Now I'm using CS5.
Problem one: when there are more footnote references in the same paragraph at the bottom of the page, all the footnotes go to the next page, even when there is enough space for at least part of the first footnote. I have a workaround for it (only leave the first footnote reference in that paragraph, move the other references to somewhere on the next page, setting the text color to none, and put fake references on the original positions), but that's not ideal. Am I overlooking something?
Problem two: I set the rule dividing body text and footnotes to 0,3 pt an 40 pt length. With a footnote split over two pages, this goes well for the first page, but on the second page there now is a thick, much longer line (the system standard rule for footnotes?). This problem didn't occur in CS4. Anyone knows whether this will be fixed? Suggestions for a workaround? Or did I do something wrong?

    Thanks for your answer.
First problem: I checked this, there is no difference when I uncheck the Keep Lines Together option. As for the Keep with Next option, I couldn't even imagine what would happen with 700 footnotes... Anyway, using the trick I mentioned solves the problem (the first footnote in the paragraph splits correctly over two pages).
Second problem: Strange - I have a Dutch language version and I can't find anything that resembles what you mention (see the image). As you see, there is a dropdown for the usual First baseline options and one for Line above (Lijn boven). In the latter you can only choose between "only a line above the first footnote" (my choice) or "above all footnotes (vervolgvoetnoten)".
Is this different from the English dialog box?

  • Changing the body image on each page with CSS

    Hi,
I need to have a different background image for each page of this site (body)
    1) I have one template currently
    2) I have one css file currently (linked)
    I've done a lot of research as to how best to do this including;
    a) Using different body id's for each page
    b) Using another css rule for body (inserted into th file AFTER the main linked ccs file)
Because I am using templates I can't see an easy way to do this (Header is largely locked) and have little control over position of b) and the same for a) as the body tag is also locked. I have also looked at "specify editable tag attibutes in a template" but couldn't get this to work.
There is something simple to do here but I cannot see it.
Any sample / advice would be appreciated.
    Rick

    John and DWILCOX01,
OK I tried it - it seems to be working ok although I have to test a few things.
However the one thing I did was remove the body style from the linked CSS file as the linked file is BELOW the new body style...
Although am I correct in assuming that if the new body style you suggested is added AFTER the linked CSS file then I don't have to worry?

  • Actions - Smartform in Email body

    Hey all,
I have a peculiar client requirement. On triggering an action from the CRM system from transactions, i need to send an email containing a samrtform.
I understand that the standard SAP pracitice is to send the smartform as an attachment to the email. But what my client wants is that the content of the smartform should come in the body of the email.
Would this be possible? If yes, how? If its not possible, is there an work around solution for this?
    Please Help.
    Thanks.
    Julius

I have not found a simple solution to this problem, other than below.
Using fm SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 . There are a ton of examples in the abap forums on using this fm. The fm documentation also has some ssample code.
My approach has been to create my email message body as an html string.
    i.e.
    data: str type string,
             name_org1 type but000-name_org1.
    concatenate '<html><head></head><body><h3>Customer Name: '  name_org1 '
                       '</h3></body></html>
           into str.
Then pass the html string into the fm as the message body. Not pretty but functional.

  • Cropping a photo as a circle with blurred edges

Help!! I should know how to do this - in fact there used to a
tutorial with it in I'm sure!! Can't find it though.
I am trying to take a photo, crop it so that it is circular
and blur the edges so I can insert in into a web page later using
Dreamweaver. At the moment the target page is white, but I would
like to be able to do this blurring into any baclground colour.
I'm sure I have done it before (Maybe in Fireworks 4 - I am
now using Fireworks MX) but I can't remember how - I can crop the
picture by drawing a circle and using "paste inside" but I can't
get the circle to detach from the "hidden" full picture and can't
remember how to blur the edges.

Draw an ellipse on top of the photo and fill it with white.
    Change the
edge property of the ellipse from Antialiased to Feather.
    Select both
the image and the ellipse and choose Modify > Mask >
    Group as Mask. You
will be able to adjust the fade off at the edge by adjusting
    the feather
    amount.
The only way to export the image to fade into any background
    is to
export it in 32-bit PNG format. Unfortunately, it will not
    display
properly in Internet Explorer without first applying some
    proprietary
markup called the Alpha Image Loader Filter. You can learn
    more about
    that here:
    http://www.playingwithfire.com/test/pngbehavior/demo.html
Another option is to export it in SWF format and apply wmode
    transparency.

  • Issue with Gaussian Blur and Spot Colors

Wondering if anyone has a solution to this issue.
Setup: We are using CS4 + CS5 Illustrator on Mac OS 10.5.X and 10.6.X
We created a spot color radial gradient filled circle over a background of the same spot color. The gradient went from 100% of the color down to 2%. We then applied a gaussian blur set to 50 pixels so that we had a nice smooth transition from the circle blurring outwards over the background with the blur blending into the spot color background.
The problem arises when we select "Retain Spot Colors" on the blur. It fills the gradient circle with 100% solid color (but at the 2% range of the gradient so it appears white) and deletes the blur effect. If we don't select "Retain Spot Colors", it converts the blur to process and we get a banding on our printouts where the spot background and CMYK gaussian meet.
We tried the gaussian blur set at 5 pixels all the way up to 55 in 10 pixel increments but nothing worked. We tried different spot colors, same issue. We know we can do the background in Photoshop and import it into Illustrator as a workaround, but we are constantly editing and changing files and would like to keep everything in Illustrator.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this or if there is even a solution. We have not tried Illustrator 5.5 and do not want to invest the money in the upgrade yet. We would prefer to stay with both CS4 and CS5.
    Thank you for any input.

    Hi Mike,
Okay, I have some new information that changes things. I misunderstood what the issue was from the designer. My apologies in advance for the confusion. There are actually two issues but they are somewhat related.
    Issue 1:
We are concerned with banding on the outside of a spot color gradient with a gaussian blur over a patterned background of the same spot color.  We do not  know if this is becasue of the number of pixels on the blur, the version of Illustrator, the blending of the blur into the patterned background, etc... While the banding looks slight on screen it is more pronounced when printed. There are many variables and we have tried everything we can think of to create a smooth transition but we keep getting some banding.
The first image shows what happens when the Preserve Spot Colors in the Raster Effects Settings (found under the Effect menu) is unchecked. We believe that the spot color is being treated as CMYK and causing the blur to be a slightly different color than the spot color background thus causing the banding.
The second image shows what happens when we select Preserve Spot Colors. We lose the blur.
The third image is what we are trying to achieve over a over a patterned background of the same spot color. This was achieved with the Preserve Spot Colors unchecked and also unchecking Overprint Preview in the Separations Preview Palette. However, this brings us right back to the issue with the Preserve Spot Color being unchecked.
    Issue 2:
The issue is that we want to print a spot color gradient with a gaussian blur (over 50 pixels). In order to preview the blur effect correctly we have to uncheck the Preserve Spot Colors in the Raster Effects Settings (found under the Effect menu). However, we have recently found out that this will not work with the software our printers use to do separations. If we check the Preserve Spot Color for the separator, it turns the blur into a large square of color (see screensnap below). We have played around with the Add: x Around Object setting in Raster Effects but it has not helped.
    3. If we do not select "Preserve Spot Color", the blur looks correct but it is no longer a spot color but CMYK when separated.
I hope that isn't too confusing and makes sense. Again, apologies for the mixup on my part originally. Thanks again for any help.

  • Footnotes and XML

I've painfully discovered that footnotes will not export as XML. I've got many, many books, some with hundreds, if not thousands, of footnotes.
So, I'm wondering if there would be a way in a script to grab all of the footnotes in a document and plop them down as regular paragraphs, but, with a style tag of "footnotes." Something like that. Then, in the xml export I can tell it to make all footnote paragraph styles into footnote xml tags. Then I should be OK.
    Thanks,
    Peter

Thanks. Yes, I found another script that does the same. I used it and it worked. It made them all into endnotes. But, then, when I exported as XML, I discovered that ID doesn't put in any line-endings. Another issue entirely, in another forum.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Is there a script to make automatic footnotes?

Yeasterday my boss gave me a book to lay out.
I must do alphabetic index and over 1200 footnotes. If I imagine this proccess, it makes me sad
The first part of this job isn't hard, because I plan to use two brilliant scripts to make index: IndexBrutal and IndexMatic.
You can download  them from this website http://marcautret.free.fr
But I need and plead for your help with footnotes. Is there a script to make automatic footnotes?
Or, maybe, you know the faster way to do this boring repeating of mouse cliks?????
    Thanks a lot.

Depends on what you mean by "make" footnotes. What are you making them from? I used a script from http://www.adobescripts.com/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=9 once to convert thousands of endnotes back to into footnotes. And I'm sure there's a similar way to automate the process (either through scripting or a find/replace) if your footnotes are embedded in text but marked some way. For instance, if your footnotes look like this at the moment:
text more text footnote number comes next (22) text of footnote here end of footnote comes next\ more text following footnote
In this case, all footnote numbers show up between parentheses and all footnotes end with a backslash. If your footnotes are marked beginning and end in some similar fashion, then there's hope.

  • Constantly redrawing a bitmap & blurring it?

    Hi,
I have a movie clip with motion in it. I'd like to duplicate this image, blur it, and mask it. I think I can do all of that, but I don't know how to update the blur so it will blur the moving elements in my movie clip.
Can anyone explain how to constantly take a snapshot of a movieclip and blur it (while disposing of old snapshots)?
    Thank you!

first draw is a very slow method in comparrison to copyPixels.  this should always be the preferred choice when dealing with bitmaps if at all possible.  since you are duplicating an image this will work in your favor.
2nd.  blurring is a very processor intensive behavior, and third full screen is even more crucial.
    Parallaxing / blurring/ full screen = nightmare.
    but there is hope
the best thing you could do is copy your full screen save that as an original bitmap
then have a second bitmap to copyPixels from the original bitmap after applying a blur filter and then turn the blur filter =null
then reapply the stage with your image.  the best you can do in your case would be pretty advanced but the ideal scenario would be to bitmap and blit your whole stage.
like pacman the game.  believe it or not there was not 1 moving part to that game it was all a bitmap.  The motion algorithems were done pre render and then the pacman , ghosts and food were then placed accordingly.
this is what you should do as well.  the less there is to draw and redraw is the main way to improve performance.  unfortunately having blur and transparencies add to the redraws especially with moves, but if you merged the background and foreground and the blurs into 1 bitmap, you can sucessfully redraw the stage 1 time without nested renders.
