Hi all,
In BOE what is the meaning of contingent liability account. How does that affect the financial statemetns ? What is the reason for reverse contingency?

Hi Suresh,
Contingent liabilities are liabilities that may or may not be incurred by a company and which depend on the outcome of a forthcoming event such as a court case. These are recorded in a company's accounts as contingent liabilities under accounts payable.
An example of this could be forward contract and is explained below.
A forward contract is an agreement between two parties to buy or sell an asset (which can be of any kind) at a pre-agreed future point in time. Therefore, the trade date and delivery date are separated. It is used to control and hedge risk, for example currency exposure risk (e.g. forward contracts on USD or EUR) or commodity prices (e.g. forward contracts on oil).
One party agrees (obligated) to sell, the other to buy, for a forward price agreed in advance. In a forward transaction, no actual cash changes hands. If the transaction is collaterised, exchange of margin will take place according to a pre-agreed rule or schedule. Otherwise no asset of any kind actually changes hands, until the maturity of the contract.
The forward price of such a contract is commonly contrasted with the spot price, which is the price at which the asset changes hands (on the spot date, usually two business days). The difference between the spot and the forward price is the forward premium or forward discount.
A standardized forward contract that is traded on an exchange is called a futures contract.
Reverse contingency arrangements are sometimes used when an attorney represents a defendant. The reverse contingency fee may be based on a percentage of the amount an attorney can save the client in settling or winning the case.

General queries regarding explain plan and query

Hello Oracle buddies,
I have few badly formed queries with plenty of nested loops, merge join cartesian , plenty of sorting and in the query so many sub queries and all.. The cost of the queries are high like anything.
some even has 130Crore of cost .
When I got the chance to look into those quries I test them in Non Prod systems and which almost have 90-95% similar data as it was refresh by PROD few weeks back.
I found few queries are having the same explain plan but cost is less like anything. for example 5000 or 6000.
When I check for the possibilities of wrong statistics I found they just collect with default setting...
In Non prod I saw only the auto stat job is ran and most of the tables are having the stats which are of last analyzed on the day of refresh.
Now what could be so differentiating factor that drives a queries' cost lesser than Prod systems, when the data is almost same. Also if prod ssystem is gather by only gather_schema_stat('SCHEMA_NAME') then it should carry the same stat in non prod while refreshing. I know ppl do not gather stat on test only auto job is running ...
I need to have clear prove before I can have a clear understanding..
Please help me to know what factors could be differentiating?

Anything that puts the stats out of sync with each other may be sufficient to cause problems. Any queries that depend on sysdate may cause a problem.
As a simple check: select table_name, last_analyzed from user_tables on the two systems, with some order by clause (e.g. table_name), and see how many tables were analysed at different times - anything on either system after the exp/imp could be part of your problem.

General queries related to implementing the web service

Hi all,
I am new to web services, so I would like to get some of the queries solved which I am facing as of now.
- If in a function of web service, there are three parameters defined, in which one is input parameter while remaining others are output parameters, then from the client invoking that web service has to provide only the input parameter as an argument or all the three arguments should be provided?

I really can't say about the input / output parameters. My guess is that you can't really have ByRef output variables, because the web method call is marshalled into XML and you only get a reply in XML based on the return type of the web method. What I'm trying to say is: only use the method's return value to receive output. Create complex Objects that can be mapped to XML to do that.
The way to call the web service from java is to parse the WSDL document for the web service and see what kind of input messages the web service requires and what type of output messages it produces.
As far as I know there are two ways to parse the WSDL.
1) If you know the location of the WSDL during development you can use it as an input to tools like wsimport in order to create a Service Endpoint Interface.
2) If you only know the WSDL location during runtime, you have to parse the document either by DOM/SAX etc either by using libraries such as wsdl4j

For those who have switched from their Tiger Quadcore MacPros to the new Leopard Octocore MacPros...I had some questions about the set up and how things are running now since its already upto 10.5.2
I run basically these programs:
Adobe Photoshop CS2
ImageReady CS2
Illustrator CS2
InDesign CS2
Dreamweaver / Flash / Fireworks 8
Office 2004
ProTools LE
is there a general lack of support for the CS2 Applications and the Macromedia Applications?
I dont have the funds at my disposal to unload on the entire CS3 Suite ( I REALLY WOULD BUT cant now...so CS2 is my only bet)
Is there still support for the future with CS2 and Macromedia8?
i realize theyre old Apps but they have faired well for me for the past few years
Im just trying to get a general conscious of what to expect ~ i have tried running leopard on this set up ran CS2, Macromedia 8 and Office 04 didnt seem bad at all..but i wasnt sure as i didnt spend all day every day with them and moving to that specific platform id like to kind of be aware of any issues anyone has experienced first hand as there is no going back then - lol.

Moved to Leopard with new Machine and the Bridge in CS2 stopped working and all I can get out of
Adobe is so or this will not be supported.

to existing R/3 4.6C. I have some queries.Can any one please

BOE- General Implementation Questions

I recently joing a Medical Transportation Company which is currently using DB2 on AS400 and is in the process of moving to Mysql. The project that I'm incharge of is finding the right technology for web based report generation and making them accessible to end users to run their own reports on a day to day basis. Currently we have BOE on a very old computer with radom versions of Crystal software installed on 2-3 computers with out a report server.
I would appreciate if someone could suggest what I need in order for me to create a separate BOE server and what are the pre-req's in order to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What version of BOE do you have? Anyway, BOE comes with Web Intelligence which is an excellent web-based reporting tool. It is very easy to use and very easy to learn, as long as the back-end data-mart and the universes are set up correctly.
It depends on how many users the system is going to support, you should install it on a server. BusinessObjects is built for Windows first, and then extend to other Operating Systems later. Therefore, for optimizing performance and minimizing cost at the same time, you should use Windows Server. Windows servers are much cheaper to maintain than UNIX server, and Windows Admin are much cheaper in term of salary than UNIX Admin. So you do the math.
The installation is quite straight-forward. You should read the Getting Started and the Admin Guide documentation first before you proceed. If you are stuck, you can always contact Tech Support if you have purchased the support contract. Otherwise, feel free to drop by again for questions.

In ERP Service, we have a concept of task list which would be assigned to a service product. The task list is nothing but a list of text items which informs the technician of what he is supposed to do when he carry out a specific service.
How is this realized in CRM?
In ERP Service, they do have a concept called BOM where they maintain the services and spare parts that can be used to service a object part. This BOM get automatically exploded when the object part is used in the service order.
How is this realized in CRM?
We have a concept called product proposals which work in a similar way u2013 but it also proposes the up-sell, cross-sell and accessories that are relevant to the product in addition to that of the services and spare parts. The concept of service templates can be used. However if you use With template option in the order, there would not be any automatic template proposal for the reference object.
Please let me know if the ERP concepts can be well addressed in CRM as well.

General Queries on OIM

Hi experts
I am a newbie to OIM, pls answer the below questions if anyone knows...
Query 1
Can we create a new resource status in OIM as "yet to provision" like we have provisioned,provisioning statuses?
As far as I know OIM will not accept new resource status. Correct me if i am wrong or suggest me how to do if above answer is yes...
Query 2
What is the use of Persistant Instance(check box) in OIM design console while creating adapter tasks in Adapter Factory?

Q1:
The statuses are entries in a table so in theory you could add additional states. Not something I would recommend unless you know exactly what you are doing. One of my clients once changed this table by mistake which resulted in a four day P1 SR as OIM ground to a total halt. Not a fun experience.
What you normally do is to reuse the provisioning status and let that mean that the resource has yet to be provisioned.
Q2:
When you create an adapter task you need to instantiate the object you will use in the provisioning task. You can either create a new instance or reuse an already existing instance (persistent instance).

Starting with iMovie - general queries.

I am fascinated with iMovie.
I've printed out the 'instructions' and can understand bits of it.
The system tells me I have the wrong Graphics Card for certain facilities but I can live with that.
However:
I have a cart load of Hi8 Camcorder tapes. I can convert these to DVD on my domestic DVD recorder.
My computer only recognises the DVDs as blank discs.
Is there any sort of fix for this?
The thumbnails provided when I'm playing with titles seem to show a very bitmapped version of the fonts. Does this cure itself in the finished production?

Yes, the camcorder was the top of its particular range at the time - over £1k to buy and has all the bits - the optics, including zoom, are brilliant.
I am being referred to all sorts of mpeg conversion add-ons but I think that's to play domestic DVDs.
All I need to do is edit my Hi8 tapes and burn to DVD. If I can also 'title' them, so much the better.
Your suggested 'plug and play' with Firewire would be the ideal solution.
I'll check the Firewire connections to and from both devices.
Not sure I have the willpower to delve into the deeper mysteries of iMovie - I have limited understanding of these matters and my brain would start to hurt.
