Bogus "New Version" message

I've created quite a few iBooks (including web and video widgets, etc) and I haven't seen this message before.
iTunes, iOS and iBooks apps updated and current. iPad 3. No issues.
This iBook has 40 pages of product photos so it should take around 15 - 20 seconds to sync to the iPad.
When I first exported it, it uploaded properly to the iPad and worked properly. I then went back and added some text and reexported it, trashed the copy in iTunes and dragged in the new version.
This time, the sync only took about 2 seconds. The iBook popped in the iBooks library on the iPad but it only took about two seconds to sync and the revised iBook did not show a progress bar or a blue "new" ribbon. The iBook weighs in at 19.2 MB. For some reason the content is not being uploaded.
When I opened it, I received this message:
"Neww Version Available
You won't be able to add notes,
highlights or bookmarks until you
update this book."
I get this message no matter what I do and it is obvious that the content is not uploading.
I've tried everything I could think of, including rebooting the iPad, syncing it various ways, etc (all books / selected books, etc). I also did a complete restore and the iBook still behaves the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion.
I deleted the iBook from both the iPad and iTunes, then emailed the original file, opened the email on the iPad and brought the file into the iBooks app.
Same problem as before. Obviously, there is some flag in the file that is causing it to display the bogus "new version available" message and not to display the "new" ribbon on the iBooks library icon. The content of the iBook itself is as it should be.

  • Generated By a newer version message

Why am I still getting a "generated by a newer version" message when I open some files in Illustrator even after I have downloade the latest update using the creative cloud app manager (I did restart the computer after the download)?

Whoever has the higher version can save it to a lower version (see the manual on saving files).
Handing files back and forth between different versions is not a recommended workflow. You'll need a thorough knowledge of which function can be downsaved and which one can't. And then you'll have to avoid some functions or use them in a specific way in order to stay editable.

  • I have Numbers 2.3 installed on my IMac and have created several spreadsheets when I try to open the latest one I get a message "You need a newer version to open this spreadsheet. Do have to buy the new one and will it work with my OS - 10.8.5?

Do I have to purchase the new Numbers to replace my version 2.3 in order to open spreadsheets already created? Will the new version work with my OS  -  10.8.5?

If you are running Mavericks, and the Mac App store says you are up to date, then you have Numbers 3.2 as well as Numbers 2.3. You are getting the "Need a newer version message because your Mac is trying to open the document using Numbers 2.3.
Launch Numbers 3, then open the document from within that app, or right click/control-click the document and choose Open with Numbers 3.x.

  • After upgrading recently I got this message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." The music/video files are still on my MacBook Pro.  Is it because I'm still on 10.5.8?  How do I fix this?

For your reference I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8.  Several weeks ago on a Monday I received an upgrade for iTunes. When Tuesday arrived I attempted to log in so that I could download the latest freebie song(s).  I was met w/this message: “The file ‘iTunes Library.itl’ cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”
The music/video files are still on my Mac (I’ve verified that via Searchlight), but I’m unable to open the program.  Since I know that 10.5.8 is rapidly becoming prehistoric, could it be that the newest iTunes isn’t compatible w/this particular OS?  I’d like to switch up, but understand that the newest OS won’t work on a Mac of this vintage (6 years old).  In addition, my Adobe products (all CS2) won’t work w/anything newer than 10.5.8, so I’m reluctant to go to a newer OS (I just can’t afford the Adobe upgrade $$$ @ this point).
Is there any way to get a download of an “old” iTunes version?  If there were, I’d simply refuse any future upgrades until my personal economy allows me to stop working as if it were 2006.  Please advise, somebody!

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • Itunes library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. How do I fix this?

  • Lion: Can't re-download from App store "newer version???"

So I am trying to create a USB backup for booting/repair.  Apple has what I thought a great solution here... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    towards bottom of page.
It states you can re-download from the App store from the Purchased tab by using "Option" and clicking on Lion to make it turn to install.
That all works, but when I click on install it says I have a newer version and if I want to install I have to move the other one to the trash.
That seems kind of counter intuitive to me.  Any suggestions how I can create a .dmg on a USB drive????
I have my machined backed up to Time Machine so not terribly worried as I could possibly use the Command R on boot to recover, but a thumb drive would be easier.  Thanks...Beo63

I see.. I was getting that message on the Lion app page I misunderstood your instructions and was option clicking on the Lion Icon which made 'installed' turn into '£20.99' then when I clicked on the £20.99 I got the same message as you about an older version.
When I quit the app store - reopened and just held option when I clicked on the purchases tab - it worked... second time. with the installed button being dark grey so I could re-download.
If your doing the same as above and still getting the newer version message I'm afraid Im stumped. Best of luck!

  • How do I fix "iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version"?

"iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version"?

In that case the "iTunes Library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version" message may indicate that your iTunes library has been corrupted.  Either restore it from a backup (it is always a good idea to backup your library before installing an iTunes update), or see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

  • I have the latest version of Pages installed, yet there are documents I try to open and the message "you need a newer version of Pages to open this document".  Help?

When I try to open some of my documents, the message "you need a newer version of Pages" appears; yet, I have installed the latest/newest version. How do I clear this up? Thanks.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.01 can not open Pages 5.2 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.2 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

I am in the middle of a job using CS 6, but at the same time opening the Creative Suite apps.  I created an InDesign file in CS 6, saved it, and now I can't open it. I'm getting this message: Cannot open file because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.1). You must use that version or later to open the file." AARRGGHH! So how do I access the file?

Sounds like you opened and saved it in CC, so now you need to go back to CC and either complete the project there, or export to IDML to take it back into CS6.
