Boilerplate text on SunOS 5.8

After I received a new computer: SUN Ultra-5_10 with SunOS 5.8, I have problems with Oracle Forms (Reports too).
In the layout editor I cannot type a boilerplate text: When I activate this regime and try to type in something, symbols are not appear on the screen (looks like the keyboard is locked). But under the SunOS 5.6 it works good.

Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit machine?
Sometimes an initial release of a Tuxedo version is not compatible with certain
hardware. For example, I have seen engineering notes in the list of updates which say
something like, "ported to 64-bit HP" or likewise for Sparc. Therefore, I must ask,
what do you see when you execute the following ?
$ tail $TUXDIR/udataobj/patchlev

When you add your new field into the parameter mask, please check, if the value is too
long for your parameter mask site. Make a double click on the master attributes of your
report in the object navigator and look at the size of the parameter mask window.
Make it bigger, if you want (vertically und horizontally size).
Check the length of the text of your parameter mask title, too.

How to design multi-lingual reports w.r.t. boilerplate text

Hi,
We need to design reports and report templates that are multi-lingual with respect to the boilerplate text in them.
How could this be done, if at all?
I am a bit familiar with the ideas about NLS parameters used to translate and format data that comes from the database, error messages etc., from other OTN posts and Reports documentation.
NLS stuff is NOT what I'm asking about.
Also, I don't think I need to mix languages in one report (or maybe is this part of a possible solution?)
Can I design a report which dynamically displays its boilerplate text parts in different languages, depending on the Windows locale of the user invoking the report?
Can I put all the boilerplate translations inside the report or some report 'configuration' file, rather than somewhere in the database?
If the report is set for batch production and automatic distribution, how would the scheduling mechanism tell the report which language to have its boilerplate text displayed at each invocation?
I think we'll be using Reports Builder 6i for development and will deploy on 9iAS R2 Reports Services. I'm not the actual developer, so I'm not sure about which Report Builder version will be used.

hello,
there are several ways to do it. i guess the most practical way is to actually use the XML customization feature that is available with reports or use translation hub, but since you stated that you are using 6i this is not an option as translation hub is only available from 9i onwards.
however the XML customziation approach would work for 6i as well. essentailly you create your report and make sure all your boilerplate text items have a uniqe name. then you can create a customization file for each language that then changes the content of each of the poilerpalte items. those can be applied at runtime or in batch.
as for the scheduling, you would need to either pass in a parameter naming the customization file or simply run the correct language version of the report.

Thanks for your response. but long time ago i used the oracle translation builder and i translated boilerplate texts and almost everything. I thought that since Forms are object oriented it is possible to read and scan all its objects and the developers of the translation builder should have used it this way. if you or any one have further information please respond and thanks in advance

Generating rotated boilerplate text in PDF, HTML format

I am trying to create rotated boilerplate text in Report 6i to PDF, HTML formats.
Rotated text generates fine using Report 6i's own report generation (Previewer) but when it's generated to PDF or HTML format output the rotated text are mirrored (in PDF) or simply does not display (in HTML).

I tried to rotate boilerplate texts (45 degree clock wise and anti-clock wise), all works fine in PDF. HTML doesn't support rotated text natually, you can workaround this by create an image for the rotated text.

Display boilerplate text even when no record to display

How would i display boilerplate text (prompt) in my repeating frame even when related query brings back 0 (zero) records ?

You can't display a value in a repeating frame if the repeating frame doesn't print.
However, you can place the same boilerplate underneath the repeating frame so that if the repeating frame doesn't print, the boilerplate underneath will still print. Make the repeating frame opaque so that the boilerplate underneath it doesn't show through if there are any records returned.
Another alternative is to have 2 frames. The first M_R_1 to surround the repeating frame and another frame M_2 to print your boilerplate (and anything else) if the repeating frame returns no records. Place M_2 after M_R_1 and make sure they are both variable sized. Place a format trigger against M_2 so that if a row is retrieved for the repeating frame, it shouldn't print. When no records are retrieved, M_2 will move up into the space vacated by M_R_1.

Can column value included in boilerplate text?

Field values can be included in boilerplate text, can column value be included also?
If I embed html tag into boilerplate text, it generates correct format in HTML output. Anyone tried PDF output? Does format defined by html tag preserved in PDF output?

You can try out this : When you type lable in your boilerplate text item include & Symbol alongwith column name.
For e.g. Emp Name &emp_name
Enter above example in your boilerplate text item.

You may try this trick to introduce bullet character in Reports on Windows platform:
For Boilerplates:
In Application such as Wordpad, hold Alt and press 0149 on numeric pad. This will insert a bullet mark in the editor. Copy this text and paste it in Reports Paper Layout.
For Fields:
Create a formula column (Character type) in the same group as the column that you need to bullet. Return the following result:
return '� ' || :<your_column>;
All the values based on this Formula column will display a Bullet mark.
Hope this helps.
p.s. character 149 is bullet character in most fonts.

Firstly, it just highlights the dodgy-looking thing with the subject line, and secondly, I usually automatically flag any post with my name in it in case I need to respond to someone but now EVERY email that comes in gets flagged and I cannot (automatically) differentiate between high and low priority emails.

If at the first place I am getting all the methods synchronized by calling

that means no two threads can enter the data structure of this collection, I am not getting how ConcurrentModificationException will be thrown while iterating thru this collection?

Printing a boilerplate text at the end of each row.

Hi All
I am printing a report (a set of letters). I want to print some header in the last page of each letters. How do I do that?
The reports returns 10 letters to be printed. I want to print a header in the last page of each letter. These letters span multiple pages.
for e.g letter1 - 2 pages
letter2 - 2 pages
letter3 - 3 pages etc.
Any help is appreciated.

I would think that you have a repeating frame1 that
sets Letter1, Letter2, Letter3.., so on. And another
repeating frame2 inside repeating frame1 for the
content of the letter? Place the header inside
repeating frame1 but at the bottom of repeating
frame2, this way it will be printed after the letter
content is printed. I hope i'm making sense : )

How do I assign the value of a Boilerplate Text Object to a Placeholder Column?

I have a Boiler plate File Link. This references a .txt file. I want to generate XML tags for it.
Is it possible to read the content of the file link object into a Placeholder column so that I can get a tag generated for that?

The key is already passed from a previous page. To set the scene a little, I have three pages:
1. Project list, has a table listing all projects.
2. Drill down to tasks for a project, passing the project key as a page property. This is a master/detail page. This currently works well.
3. Create a new task for the project from page 2. I want to pass the project key obtained from page 1 to page 3 via page 2, so that the user does not have to re-select a project when creating a task.
Here is my registrydef from page 2 (the tasks for a project):

This works well, I can display the selected project and then list the tasks in a table.
My problem is that in page 2 the project record is not in a table, so I cannot use a table selection mechanism to set the key value in the event which calls page 3 (see my earlier post for this code). As the key that I need is sittng there in the URL as a page property, I want to pass that instead. How to I reference it from within an event?
Does this make sense or is there a better way of doing it? Do I actually need a new page to create a new task - I don't think I can add new records in a table!

Boilerplate Fields and text substitution

Hey,
I'm new to LiveCycle Designer and would appreciate any help on this.
Having used Output Designer for over a year I am used to using boilerplate text fields that allow text substitution with a block of text by using @fieldname. and within the data file to merge with compiled version of the template (.mdf) using ^global fieldname with the value to be merged.
Can this functionality be replicated in LiveCycle Designer?? I've looked through the documentation but can't find it anywhere.

Yes, the technology in LiveCycle Designer is called a floating field. In the midst of a text block you can put a floatinng field (put your cursor where you want the field to be and on the Insert menu choose Floating Field). This will add a field in the text block signified by {TextFieldName}. Now click on the heirarchy view select the field and set its properties. It is the binding that will map the inbound data to this field.

How to edit text inserted into a gif

I have a gif image. I opened the image. I insert text the with horizontal text tool.
After inserting I can move the text around, but I can’t edit the text, can’t add or change characters, can’t change color.
Is there a way to do that?

How do you strip the "boilerplate" in your code?

Thanks to the help I've gotten here I'm actually starting to get the hang of this application so let me start by saying THANK YOU!
My question: Is there some way to strip all the boilerplate text in my code... you know the information that comes by default in a template? I know it's probably not necessary but I want my work to be as clean as possible.

Yes, it does make a difference. I have just tested downloading it in Safari and Firefox on a MacBook Pro.
Safari, in Apple's infuriating way of thinking it knows best, automatically appends .xml to the filename. Firefox does not.
Even when I removed the .xml in Finder, Dreamweaver still couldn't open it, because Mac OS X again decided it knew better than me. Instead of actually removing the .xml extension, it simply hid it!
I needed to select the file in Finder and press Cmd-I to open Get Info, delete the .xml there, and deselect the option to hide the filename extension. Then it worked.
The file doesn't need to be saved in any particular location, but it must have the .dwr filename extension.
I'll add a note to the instructions on my site. Thanks for alerting me to this problem.
