BOINC 5.4.9, InteliMac, and sudden restarts

I had been using 5.2.13 (powerPC) without any apparent problem. I upgraded to 5.4.9 (Universal) and my mac began suddenly restarting, about every 20 minutes. Reintalled the OS on a freshly prepared HD, It ran about 36 hours before a restart, then 8 hours, then one.
I reverted to 5.2.13 and it runs again like it should.
Anyone else using BOINC, seti@home?

I think you may have more than one problem. It sounds like you have some bad memory sticks, but you also have a corrupt OS installation. Check your risers for red LED's indicating faulty RAM. Run the Apple Hardware Test, extended version, looking for the same thing. Remove any RAM that isn't working, and make sure the remaining RAM is installed in the right arrangement for your model.
Then back up all data and reinstall the OS. After reinstalling, run Software Update.

You have a Mac with a known GPU fault. The logic board must be replaced.
There was a three-year free repair policy, but that has since expired.
If you have an Apple Store, you might be able to convince them that you were unaware of the problem since it didn't manifest until you upgraded (which it didn't for many people with the same Mac).
They had an article posted describing the issue, but it has been removed and replaced with this: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) intermittent black screen or loss of video Quality Program has ended - Apple Support
When you take it in for service, make sure they test for that specific problem as it won't show up on their normal tests.
You can prevent some of the kernel panics by using a program to force the Mac to only use one or the other cards. I'm not sure which one has the fault in it. https://gfx.io

  • Macbrook pro randomly and suddenly restarts

Hello everyone. I have a macbook pro that has been inadvertantely restarting occassionally for the last few months. It can happen at anytime, regardless of what I am doing on the computer. I have recently been playing a lot of the game League of Legends and have found that it will restart every few times I play. Other than the restarts, the computer works completely fine.
I have tried rebooting it into safe mode, repairing the hard drive, and even completely wiping the hard drive clean and reinstalling my OS, but none of that has worked. I am probably going to have to take it into the mac store, but before I did I figured I would get some opinions on here. I have the panic report from my last shut down if that will help. I am not super computer savy, so any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks very much

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have the Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, and the log is showing a problem with the NVIDIA GPU. "GPU Panic" means that the NVIDIA GPU has failed.
Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro have got a defective GPU that may cause unexpected restarts, black screens, kernel panics... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Apple is repairing all of those MacBooks Pro for free, so make a backup of your files and take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired. You can only get the MacBook repaired for free if it was purchased less than 3 years ago. Apart from that, print the log in case Apple refuses to repair the MacBook Pro

  • I log in, startup bar starts loading but suddenly restarts

    Macbook Pro retina, 2.5 intel i7, 16gb RAM, 512gb, OS X yosemite 10.10.1.
I bought this mac last weekend but i think since the last update this has been happening
I turn it on, put my password, the start up bar starts loading and suddenly restarts! I have to put my password again and just then it takes me to the desktop. This happens everytime i turn it on. Should i take it to apple?

I think you should make a Genius Bar appointment to show them your problem.

  • Windows 8.1 Suddenly Restarting Again and Again

    Hi everyone,
My PC has been suddenly restarting every so often ever since the windows 8.1 update. What do? It's really frustrating not being able to get any work done. Below are the last few DMP files. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
The latest minidump file relate with NvBackend.exe wich is a driver of Getforce device. Please reinstall its driver for test. Make sure it was upgraded to be latest at the same time.

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

  • Hi I have an iPhone 4 and suddenly it stopped working. Could here notifications and nothing on the diisplay. Wake up  button on top is not working. so unable to restart the phone. Wanted to try restore from iTunes but Find my iPhone (iCloud) is on.

Hi I have an iPhone 4 and suddenly it stopped working. Could here notifications and nothing on the diisplay. Wake up  button on top is not working. so unable to restart the phone. Wanted to try restore from iTunes but Find my iPhone (iCloud) is on. How to recover or restart my Phone

Follow these steps to log into your iCloud account on your computer and deactivate "Find my iPhone" on your device:
Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone
If you can’t turn off Find My iPhone on the device, turn off the device so it goes offline, then remove it from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Note:    You can also remove your iOS device by first erasing it—just follow the instructions below for removing an iOS device you don’t have. You can later restore the device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
Turn off the device you want to remove.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find on another computer with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, select the offline device, then click Remove from Account. If you don’t see Remove from Account, click All Devices again, then click the Delete button next to the device. If the device comes online again, it will reappear in Find My iPhone. If your device reappears, turn off Find My iPhone on the device (follow the instructions above for removing a device by turning off Find My iPhone), or if it’s an iOS device and you no longer have it, follow the instructions below for removing an iOS device you no longer have.
Remove an iOS device you no longer have
If you no longer have the iOS device because you gave it away or sold it, you need to remotely erase it before you can remove it.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device.
Click Erase [device], then enter your Apple ID password. Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message.
Note:    If you’re trying to erase a family member’s device, that person will need to enter his or her Apple ID password on this device. If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it’s online. You’ll receive an email when the device is erased.
When the device is erased, click Remove from Account. All your content is erased, and someone else can now activate the device.

Suddenly my I phone 4 will not connect message mobile device service could not be started (nothing has changed on my PC). I have tried following the troubleshooting and have restarted the mobile device) but it still won't connect. Also all bookmarks have disappeared!

Okay ... it's a better bet with a 1067 error message when trying to start the Apple Mobile Device Service, but we'd better check for a LSP issue, as per the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

My macbook from 2008 which I bought used worked fine for 3 weeks and then suddenly it started restarting and now it restarts, goes to grey apple screen and a code saying something about a kernel panic appears and it restarts again and again. Help?

Restart the computer and immediately hold the Option key down.
Select the Recovery partition and continue.
On the next pane, select Disk Utility and continue.
When DU opens, select your hard drive in the left column, click the First Aid tab, the click Repair Disk.
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way.

I was watching a movie on my Apple TV and suddenly it stopped. I noticed I was logged out. Then I tried logging in again and I keep getting a message "cannot connect to iTunes". I restarted the Apple TV three times and tried again each time. I am stuck  Help please

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!

Thanks Kirk and Thomas....I did appear to have a kernel panic.   The contents of the panic are shown below.   I used disc permissions repair on the internal and external drives and all seem to be ok.     iPhoto is completely rebuilt and all is well there.    I use Time Machine and a dedicated hard drive for its contents.   Been using Macs since my original computer....a brand new Mac II.....this is a new experience.   Here's the info displayed on the panic.   Thanks a bunch...Ralph

I have an iPhone 3GS and I restarted it. I have crossed my language, wifi, country and everything, but suddenly when I am done with that and it says "activating iPhone", a message comes time after time "Activation error." What can I do?

Most activation errors happen because a phone has been previously hacked or jailbroken.  If this is the case, we cannot help you on this forum.  You'll have to look elsewhere for assistance.
