Bold 9930 - dead and flashing red light

Bold - Verizon 9930, died with flashing red light, non-responsive. Can connect wtih loader, re-loading latest OS for Verizon (7.1.0_rel1737_PL5.1.0.429_A7.1.0.580_Verizon_Wireless) Load fails with "application loader was unable to connect with your device" when it tries to connect with the JVM. I have tried:- fully charged known good battery (tested in another 9930)- wiping device- start without battery, insert battery when JVM message comes up- both BB desktop and Loader directly- two different PCs (no change)- different USB ports- older version of BB OS for device- many, many iterations... All end with "application loader was unable to connect with your device" Is the device scrap?  If so why?  It's not even 2 years old, out of warranty, and apparently now totally worthless.  This one is the CEO's Blackberry, and he's not happy...  If I can't resolve this, it will be the very last BB to ever see the inside of our company.  This is the second 9930 to die this way in the last 4 weeks.

Does RIM care about these failure issues at all I wonder?
If you were hoping for a response from RIM, you have misunderstood the purpose of these forums. These are not a channel for any communications with, support from, nor escalation to RIM for anything. Rather, these are a user-to-user community of volunteers trying to help each other out amidst their own busy lives. So patience perhaps would be a good thing to have...
Nevertheless, please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
While you've already validated that your battery is good, I don't think you've tried the first part of this test:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
While perhaps redundant to what you've already attempted, here are a few more things to try:
KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
Since you are out of warranty, your next step I suppose would be to seek in-hand support from a qualified technician to give you a proper diagnosis. Doing such at this internet distance is quite a challenge and therefore cannot replace in-hand evaluation and diagnosis.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Black screen and flashing red light

A couple of days ago my bb torch 9860 suddenly turned off and when I turned it on the battery was completely drained.
I took it home and hooked it up to a charger. After 8 hours the battery was still charging. Upon removel the BB would display a battery drained message within 2 minutes. This was weird since the BB was about 3 months old. I decided to get a new battery. This didn't solve the problem. The store where I bought the battery told me that there was a problem concerning re-calibration. However they were unable to perform that fix. I took the BB home and decided to try something myself.I followed the steps of this web page: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-bold-9000-f83/how-re-calibrate-blackberry-battery-643307/, but that unfortunatly made my problem worse. All my BB torch does now is flash the red light every once in a while with battery and the power cable in. When i remove the battery once in a while i get a screen displaying an empty battery with a red cross in it. Please help me, i tried to connect to the computer and reinstall BB device software and it fails. I have no clue what to do. Maybe someone can help me send the BB to a Blackberry factory, I have no clue how to do that.
    Thanks in advance!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Given what you describe, it's likely that your BB has a physical defect. The only way to seek warranty hardware level support is via the reseller from which you purchased it...they are 100% responsible for all of your hardware and warranty support. They can arrange to have it sent to the factory if that is what is required.
    Good luck!

  • My Curve won't turn on and no sign of flashing red light

    Hi!
I m all new to this blackberry forum thing....anyway i have a blackberry curve and all of a sudden yesterday it just stopped working. when i looked at the phone the screen was all white so i took out the battery and put it back on thinking that it will come back up but it didnt. Then i took the battery out again and plugged it to the USB(without the battery) because ususally it comes back up, but it still didnt. i put the battery again and plugged it to the USB thinking that it needs to charge but still no since of that flashing red light. I took the battery out and put my friends battery (cos he has a curve too) but still it didnt work. I did try holding down the power (red)button still not back on.
I just dont understand whats wrong with it, its not like i dropped it in the water or dropped it on the floor. I didnt do anything to it. It just stopped working.
Im really frustrated right now...I just dont know what to do..i hope someone can help me
    THanks!

I finally got my curve to work.  I just left it on the charger for a while and then it powered up. It seems if its a little low on power and I don't charge it relatively soon it shuts down and won't power up for awhile. I've also updated the software and cleaned out the junk files. It seems to be working fine now, go figure.

  • Phone died and I put it on the charger and the red light keeps flashing.

Phone died and I put it on the charger (wall charger) and the red light keeps flashing. It's been doing that for a little less than an hour, I pulled the batttery twice & get the same light flashing. I also read othe posts and it says to just let it charge for a few hours but i don't think it's gonna work. If you know anything about it let me know please & thank you.

When connected to the charger, is the "no battery" symbol showing?
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage). If it doesn't reboot on the first attempt, leave it several more hours. I've had one charge for two days before it came back to life after an extreme battery depletion. Every 3-4 hours, with the device still connected to the charger, you can remove and replace the battery to see if it reboots.

  • My PS3 turns off randomly and a red light flashes

A flashing red light indicates the console has shutdown due to overheating.
Make sure the cooling vents are clear.
What model of ps3 is it - superslim, slim or original?

A quick suck with a hoover should be your first step.
If that doesn't help, you could open the console up (only if out of warranty), and blow around with a can of compressed air, as suggested .
The next step after that is some pretty major surgery on the console, which I wouldn't recommend unless you are totally confident at messing around with delicate electronic equipment.
    See YouTube for examples.

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

My ipod shuffle 2nd gen suddenly stops playing music after 15-20 mins.First it flashes green light and then flashes red light rapidly. Any solution to this ?

A 2nd gen shuffle is about six year old at this point.  The likely cause is a battery that is worn out, with greatly reduced capacity or inability to hold a charge.  The initial green light shows a good charge.  The red light means the battery is drained.
Since the shuffle still appears in iTunes, you can try doing a Restore in case the cause is related to corrupted software on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.
Also, when the light becomes red and the shuffle stops playing, try turning OFF the shuffle for at least ten seconds.  Then, turn it back ON.  This resets the shuffle.  Does it play again?  If it does, let it play until it no longer plays again.  Repeat turning it OFF and ON until it no longer plays.  Then, connect it to power and charge it to full.  See if that makes any difference.
If that does not help, the solution is to replace the battery.  If you have a repair shop do it, the cost is probably uneconomical, compared to the cost of a brand new 4th gen shuffle ($50) that has more features, and a new set of headphones, plus a one-year warranty.

  • Flashing red light on my ACS 4.1

Hello, I have a flashing red light on my ACS. I have searched on Cisco.com to see what this meant and how I can fix it. I am aware that it is a critical error on the system health for my ACS. But what exactly does that mean? How can I figure out what is the problem before it becomes a big issue. Any help is well appreciated! Thanks!!

  • Large outside Junction/Control box has flashing red light - bad or normal?

There is a Verizon outside box that is large with a flashing red light on its side.  It appears to be a junction or control box mounted on the ground.  It has been there for years and I do not remember seeing a flashing red light until now.  Plus, my DSL connection has been dropping recently.  Can a tech rep from Verizon High Speed Internet answer?  Thank you for yur patience.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

These boxes are called Remote Terminals, and yes it is for DSL.  The flashing light probably means that the battery backup has failed, so it shouldn't really affect your DSL unless your power goes out.  And even then, the battery backup is only to power the voice line to make calls.
I would call 1-800-VERIZON and choose the option about "repair."  I've had luck with getting poles replaced/repaired that way.  Say that there's a flashing red light on the remote terminal, give the street address, and also give the central office you're out of (IE, your area code and first 3 digits of your phone number should tell the rep where you are).  Also, stop by it and see if you can find any writing/markings on that, and tell them that too.  Be as specific as possible.  Make sure you get a ticket number from them, and make sure they have a call back number.
There was a tree laying on a wire near me, and I made sure I got a repair ticket; the next day a tech called me to say he was headed out that way and asked specific details about the location, what was wrong, etc.   A few days later the tree was gone.

  • Flashing Red Light Quit Working

My flashing red light on the front of my 8350i has stopped working.  You know, the one to notify you you've missed a call or have an unread email, etc.  I've only had it about 2 weeks & was working fine until Friday.  It quit working so I took the battery out & put it back in - nothing. Tried again on Saturday morning when it still wasn't working & it started working again...for a while.  Now it's not working again.  Haven't called tech support yet - anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have set in the Profiles for your active profile "LED notifications" to ON?

  • I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? Any ideas :)

I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing from the port? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? I used the headphones in the laptop for the first time yesterday and have had this problem ever since. Any ideas

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.

  • Loud buzz and a red light! Hot, too.

My AE started sending a loud buzz through its audio output. When I unplugged the cable, there was a red light shining from the connector hole. The darn thing was pretty hot, too, although I can't really say it was warmer than usual. Unplugging it for a while causes it to work again (the red light goes away).
Is it frying itself to death?
    Any ideas?

The warmth of the Airport Express, and the "red light shining from the connector hole" which is the optical digital output, are not things I would be overly concerned about. The "loud buzz" is of course not normal. If this "loud buzz" becomes a recurring problem (and you eliminate a faulty cable or sound system as a source of the buzz) and your Airport Express is still under warranty, I would recommend you get it replaced.
