Bold first character of paragraph does not work in Pages vs 5.1

When starting to write a new paragraph I can not get Bold to work, not from the Format menu, not with the shortcut Command B and not from the inspector. Oddly Italic works.
With the cursor at the beginning of a new paragraph, I can not highlight the "B" in the inspector. The "I" can be highlighted. After typing one character of the new paragrapg I can highlight the "B".
This appears to be a bug.
OS X 10.9.1
iMac 2010

It has been in Pages 5 since it was launched. Still in Pages 5.1.
If you owned a previous version of Pages it should be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Open a Word Processing document, sounds like you have opened a blank Layout template which has absolutely nothing to type into, you need to add Textboxes or Shapes.
The Word Processing templates are labelled in the sidebar of the Template Chooser.

Paragraph styles not working in pages 5.0

I upgraded pages to the newer version 5.0 and the documents that I had on my old version lost all the paragraph styles I had created. I also tried to create new paragraph styles with numeral lists and bullets and this is not working *(not applying format). The old version worked very good doing that. Do any one have had this issue? Can it be a bug? I will appreciate your input. Thanks

Paragraph styles can no longer include list numbering.
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder, use that.

The autosave feature does not work on Pages 5.2

Since downloading the new version of Pages with Mavericks, the auto save fearure has never worked for me. After initally saving the document to iCloud, giving it a name and folder, every time I make a change I get the 'Edited' label next to the document name. I have to cmd-s of file save in order for the document to be saved, or am promted to save when I close to app. I have tried deleting and reinstalling Pages with no luck.
Is there a way to turn the feature on, Please help ?!
P.S- I am on Late 2013 Retina MBP 13", running latest software on both OS X and Pages.

I don't think either of your "indicators" actually refers to whether a document has been autosaved; they both refer to the saving of a version.
The prompt to save is a reflection of the setting in the General pane of System Preferences to ask when closing; if that is unchecked, the document will close without a dialog, but including the changes that you have made since the last version that you marked with ⌘ S.
The "Edited" label indicates that there have been changes since the last marked version. The changes may have (eventually will have) been autosaved to disk, but if you browse back through the version history, the first step will jump over those most recent edits.

In my page I have some text and then I have put if condition and then Page Break (Next) and then some text and closed the if condition. When I run this if condition is simply ignore and it displays the data within if condition I do not know how to avoid.

How can I stop pages from automatic reloading, I am aware of the option in advanced, but it does not work for pages like Yahoo News and Drudge Report.

I am trying to stop pages from being able to automatically reload. Sites such as Drudge Report and now Yahoo News anre reloading before I have a chance to read them and it confuses me due to a disability besides just being annoying. I have found the option in tools-advanced-accessibility and checked it but they still reload. And I did close Firefox and restart.
I am using version 3.6.8 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722

The Drudge Report site has a script to reload after 3 minutes:

The Yahoo page probably has something similar.
You can try NoScript to see if you can block that refresh.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing on your iPhone. It sounds like you are not noticing transparency on your iPhone. It may be that you have "Increase Contrast" turned on in your iPhone settings.
I recommend verifying that Increase Contrast is turned off in Settings>General>Accessibility.

TOC link with a subscript character does not work in PDF

Hi,
has anyone come across with this? A heading has a subscript character and when you generate a PDF, the TOC page has no link. Other TOC heading links work out just fine, but all these that have subscript, these do not.
I have used Save As PDF and selected even create named destinations for all Paragraphs. Usually the TOC works fine even if that is not selected. A link with subscript does not work in either case.

In user-authored manually-created hypertext links, sure. And in that case, we know that we have to re-apply the Marker to the various fragments of the desired text. I would not expect this behavior for a generated file where we have limited control over the auto-tagging.

It's not just format changes in body <$paratext> that break this. If you so much as apply a different format to the elements on the TOC Reference Page TOC (such as making the page number a different font), that breaks the HT of the page number in the PDF.

Well, Adobe might consider this to be an Enhancement Request item, but I consider it to be a defect.
Is there anyone who would object if the TOC entries had functional full-string HT links by default? If so, Adobe could fix the problem, and have an Update tickbox to revert to legacy broken behavior.
In any case, the Unicode solution is not really a "work-around", even though I put it that way. For anything where Unicode has a glyph that you would otherwise implement as FrameRoman with a Character Format, use Unicode.

Alt shift clear paragraph overrides does not work

This is one of those little things that is becoming very frustrating-- crtl +shift+ click on paragraph style does not work all the time. It worked for me last week, but is not working today-- or it actually does work after click about 3 times , clicking another style and clicking back on the correct style. Anyone experiencing this/know a fix or what I may be doing wrong? I am doing as it says, holding those keys down and clicking the style.

It shouldn't work at all. Those modifiers are for the clear overrides button at the bottom of the styles palette. Alt-click on the style name to clear all overrides. I believe this is different behaviour from CS2 (or am I thinking of CS) where alt-click cleared character overrides and alt-shft-click cleared everything.

Change Password on first use does not work properly.

I have created apex application user in Oracle Apex 3.2 as follows

User should be prompted to change password at first use. But it does not work properly. There is no such message. Still accepts user to log in with old passord that was first given to the user. I have tried explicitly to ensure change password at first log in. by

Might be a long way around the problem but I would utilize a boolean flag in a column (FIRST_LOGIN) your custom auth table set to 'Y' when you create their account. Then on the login page have a page process something like:

The page 2 in this example would have an few items for them to enter their new password twice, a page process to update their password in the auth table and then redirect them to the intended first page.

Change password on the first use - does not work

Change password on the first use - does not work.
Created a user and specified 'Change password on the first use' - when user logs in - the 'Change password' window does not pop- up.
Please advise.

(APEX 4.0.2) I am running into this same issue - if you don't set the password expiration and locking to 'Yes', the user gets into the app without being asked to change the pw.
When you do set expiration and locking - after the user logs on with their temporary password, it does take them to the change password page (4155:50) but the username is blank. Because the username didn't get to the page the old password will never match and you get the "Invalid password" message.
What am I missing? Anyone successful doing this?
Simple application, default authentication, no javascript, HTTP_SERVER, no ssl.
