Bold Font issues in osx 10.5.8

We are having problems in all browsers and dreamweaver where all system fonts are displaying bold. We've tried resetting some preferences and made sure that the font's we're obviously in the fonts library. We also re installing some of the fonts. This still did not help.
Another colleague is also experiencing the same problem on his imac at home.
Can anyone help with this issue?

I was extremely careful in turning them On.
They are very shy about their picture being taken.
They are a bit unhappy about being on a public URL

  • Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold Font issue

    Good afternoon,
    We currently have Adobe Creative Suite 5 and the issue I'm having is with InDesign. Here's a description of the problem:
    We've been using InDesign on Windows XP for some time and have not had any issues using the Arial Narrow or Arial Narrow Bold fonts. However, we recently purchased a Windows 7 PC and installed CS5 on it. Whenever the user on this new PC opens up an InDesign document, that was created on Windows XP w/ the mentioned fonts, an error comes up stating that the listed fonts (Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold) are not available on the system and that substitute fonts will used. So then I have the option to replace the missing fonts with other fonts, which I am able to replace with the Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold fonts that are already in the Windows 7 font folder. So it's almost like InDesign see's the fronts from XP and Windows 7 as two different things. I checked the version numbers on both fonts and they are the same (2.40).
    Does anybody have any ideas? I've googled the issue and Adobe actually says that this is a Microsoft problem and is related to Office 2007 installing the Arial fonts with extra properties, wherein a hotfix is provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. I've applied this hotfix and it does not do anything. I've also copied the fonts from the Windows XP machine and replaced the Windows 7 fonts with this, as well as vice versa, but this also does not resolve the issue.
    Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    LMK

    I found a solution for myself. Regenerate in ttf by defalt all 4 arial narrow fonts with Fontlab Studio without any changes to fonts info or structure. Then install them into system (Windows/Fonts). Clean old arial narrows files before. Then do search for adobefnt*.lst on system disk. Delete those files (only .lst not .db or any other). Great! Works perfectly in all adobe apps! Shows all names in arial family submenue.

  • Firefox 3.6 Font Issues with OSX Font Server

    Just wondering if anyone's found a fix. There's an ongoing Firefox issue that keeps getting fixed (I have asked there with no luck) with updates but I'm wondering if perhaps there's a plist issue that someone might know about. What happens is that some fonts are either bolded or italicized by the system. The fix is to restart OSX's font server through the Terminal and it works — at least until you restart. I've validated fonts with Font Book but so far, everything's fine on that end.

    While I have not contacted Adobe, I am sure the answer will be don't use Firefox 3.6.8. ( The compliment to the answer you gave. It not Firefox that has the problem but Adobe.)
    Since the only solution that I have seen is to disable the key reason to use Firefox 3.6.8 (crash protection) then the problem would appear to be in how Firefox as done the crash protection.

  • Bold Font issues in Safari

    Since installing leopard on my Mac Pro Quad my safari highlight font has changed to a really Black Condensed font like Helvetica Compressed or Inserat, not sure which, and the letterspacing is really tight making it illegible most of the time.
    I can’t read most of the headlines etc... on most sites when the text is below 20pt.
    Please help cant work out why!!!
    It doesn’t do it in Camino etc.. just Safari!

    Fixed it now found so older forum fixes.
    I completely removed all the fonts from my suitcase which cleared any font conflicts rebooted safari and suitcase and it didn’t fix it. But restarted the Mac and it did so make sure you reboot the machine afterwards!
    Thanks

  • How can I prevent sites displaying in bold font in versions of FF later than 3.6?

    Many sites (google, gmail, wikipedia to name a few) are appearing in bold font when they should not be. This started for me in FF4, and has persisted in FF5 and now FF6. I'm running Windows 7 x64.
    I've seen many replies to questions about bold font problems telling people to reinstall, e.g. arial as the problem is corrupted fonts on their system. I've tried reinstalling several fonts (arial, verdana, tahoma, times new roman...) and it doesn't solve the problem. Also, if I reinstall FF3.6, the problem goes away, so it seems to be an issue with FF and not my machine.
    I've also tried running FF6 in safe mode, with addons disabled, and restoring the default settings. None of this has helped.
    I should add that I have another machine running FF6 with the same addons, but with Windows 7 x86 - all pages display correctly. Is this a known issue for FF4+ on 64-bit systems?

    Thanks for replying. I'm using exactly the same profile as I did in 3.6, and reinstalling 3.6 does solve the problem. I'd rather use the latest version though.
    I've just checked Tools > Options > Content > Advanced of the two machines side by side, and they're identical. The 32-bit one is fine, and the 64-bit one isn't.

  • PDF Font Issues

    I recently added some new fonts to my directory.  Since then, I have had font issues with my pdf's and previews where the characters are illegible.  I have tried using disabling fonts on Font Book for pdfs, and tried using Font Finagler and FontNuke to clear all font caches.  The problem only seems to effect pdf's.  I am operating on OSX 10.6.7.  Does anyone have any suggestions that might fix this problem.

    I was getting a "Missing Font" message and the explanation on the forum is that a bug in 10.6.7 caused the OS to UNEMBED fonts in PDF files!
    Don't know who said that, but it's incorrect.
    I built a simple text document with three lines of text. Opened three fonts not on the system, applied one each to a line of text and saved a PDF using Apple's built in PDF generator.
    I then disabled the fonts and deleted them. With no fonts to find and the comment being true that fonts are not embedded, the PDF should display incorrectly. It didn't. I looked exactly as it should, meaning the fonts had to be embedded in the file.

  • Converting a PDF to a SWF Font issues

    Hi,
    Maybe somebody out there has seen this and can guide me in
    the right direction?
    I am trying to convert PDF files into a flash book using the
    flashprinter product.
    Here is an example of the PDF I am trying to convert. (you
    should see it is using the
    following fonts PostScript Fonts - HelveticaNeue-HeavyCond,
    HelveticaNeue-LightCond, HelveticaNeue-LightCondObl,
    NewsGothic and NewsGothic-Bold).
    http://www.sendd.com/~webdrop/htdocs/200704/FontProblems.pdf
    When this gets converted to the Swf (LOOK at the file ZOOM+
    Mode)
    http://www.sendd.com/~webdrop/htdocs/200704/EZBlue_v11t.swf?RRDid=aFC3tehrg1VGCUIylKIQ
    Once I saw what was happening I thought it was a font issue
    and I made up a page with all the fonts used by using the ATM
    sample viewer.
    http://www.sendd.com/~webdrop/htdocs/200704/AllFontsUsed.pdf
    (Look at the SWF file in the ZOOM + mode view - looks great)

    If anybody out there can help that would be great,
    thanks,
    Swf_trying

    Hey Joseph,
    Please tell me whether you are able to convert any other PDF file to excel format or not?
    What exact error message do you get?
    Are you trying to convert a scanned PDF document?
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Embedded font issues -- Flex not measuring properly

    I started this out in one thread ( http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470702 ) and it has progressed into a new, bigger issue. I embedded fonts using the code below.  Flex is not measuring them properly or the font I'm using is vertically challenged.  I suspect the font I am embedding has different vertical spacing than the default font.  I have determined the fonts are embedding by rotating the containers.
    Here's an example of what I'm getting:
    The right side radio button is the raw display (height works out to 23), the left side radio button I forced the height to 15.  Both the radio buttons are set to exactly the same y coordinate.  You can see the right hand text is not centered on the radio button.  I don't want to go thru the hassle of adjusting every single component height to make the font look centered plus that's an ugly workaround.
    I don't think there is anything wrong with my code nor do I think a font swf will help.  I sure would like to know what's going on but it is beyond my understanding.  Here's my thought.  I like the default font the compiler uses when I DON"T embed fonts, looks like this:
    I figure if I could embed this font, everything would work properly.  I just don't where this font lives.  The docs indicate the default font is _serif but it looks more like _sans to me.  And I don't know the hierarchy for my platform.
    So...  Does anyone know either how to fix this measurement issue or where I can find THE True Type font or swf or something that Flex uses as a default so I could embed it?
    /* CSS file */
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdana.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanab.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontWeight: bold;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanai.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontStyle: italic;
    @font-face {
    font-family: MainFont;
    src: url("assets/fonts/verdanaz.TTF");
    unicode-range: U+0020-U+007E;
    advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    fontWeight: bold;
    fontStyle: italic;
    global {
    font-family: MainFont;

    First off, yes there was a correction to the left hand radio button.  I forced the height of the button to be different and that seemed to help center things
    After a bit of beating my head against the way, I decided to run a simpler test.  I set up a case where I had default fonts side by side with embedded fonts.  Since my default.css file had Verdana I decided to use a Verdana embedded font.  I figured I could compare them directly and maybe play with advanced anti-aliasing at the same time.  I've attached the files (change the txt extension to mxml)
    The result was a somewhat of a surprise.  I didn't realize that all text really wasn't centered on the component (eg radio button, checkbox) at my default size and below.  I do see the small pixel shift, especially in the Button.
    So...  I have found the "real" font declaration in the defaults.css file, am seeing the small pixel shift with embedded fonts, that using advanced anti-aliasing  can help on smaller text, and realized I have to be very careful where I use font sizes smaller than default.  I'm guessing that the "perfect" default size on my system would be 12 since that appears what my Verdana.ttf font is based on.  My defaults.css file has the font size set at 10.  The inability to measure properly is exacerbated when the fonts are embedded.
    Now the real question -- anyone have a clever fix?

  • Font Book in 10.7 is retarded. I need recommendations for a good font manager for OSX

    On our 10.5.8 G5, I'm using Extensis Suitcase.
    Our new Mac Pro is running 10.7 and I need to install fonts, but Font Book seems to cry about just about every font I want to install. So, where are the best font managers for OSX as of right now? Is Extensis still the best? Thoughts? Thanks,
    Chris

    I know what your're talking about. I used to do phone support for an ISP.
    Anyway, this last one that has me up in arms says this:
    "1 serious error was found. Do not use this font."
    This is in the Font Validation window when I try to install into Font Book. It shows the font name "Serpentine-Bold-Bold.ttf" in the window with an expand triangle to the left. To the far right is a red circle with a white X in it. Ahh screw it, here's a screenshot....
    This font works perfectly fine on our G5 running 10.5.8

  • In Mountain Lion, bold fonts are being rendered misaligned.

    In Mountain Lion, bold fonts are being rendered misaligned, like shadowed text, when printed or saved as PDF. See example image. Same text is fine in Lion. Any solutions?

    I had this issue as well, googled a bit and found a solution that works just peachy...
    1. Open terminal
    2. defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 0
    3. Restart applications

  • Yosemite Safari Font Issue

    Hi!
    I just updated to Yosemite and my Safari fonts have been replaced by what appears to be Arial Bold Italics.
    Everything looks Bold and Italics, even when I am typing this message.
    Can someone help me with this font issue?
    Thanks.

    I'm having this issue too. It starts this way and next I will see all the fonts corrupt or change to a bold arial font. I'm totally sick of this. Restarting in safe mode, repair permissions, remove caches and preferences and when that doesn't work, reset Safari. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.
    I'm not buying a new mac till they do!

  • Flash paper doesn't import bold fonts

    I have some bold fonts in my word document. And when i export
    them to
    swf or
    pdf, the bold fonts become regular. I used
    Flash Paper last year once or twice and I didn't have such a
    problem. The font I'm using is "Bookman Old Style". But I tried
    other font types as well and they didn't work either... Anyone had
    the same problem or know a fix for this issue ? cheers...
    Flash Paper version = 2.02.2302

    I had the same problem whenever I wanted to print on
    FlashPaper. The following worked. Go to Control Panel > Printers
    > Macromedia Flash Player. Right Click > Properties. Under
    the tab
    Ports select
    FlashPaperPrinterPoint. I had LPT1 for FlashPaper selected
    by default, so I guess it made my laptop "look" for the printer.
    I hope it works for you too!

  • When Patch for embedded fonts and Lion OSX to be released?

    Was reading through the thread about the problem with embedded fonts and Lion OSX and a patch being released the 3rd week of August. Does anyone know about the patch being released?

    This patch was released as 11.5.9 a couple of weeks ago. See this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/895280?tstart=0
    You should be able to get it through the Help / Check for Updates menu - but I would definitely be aware that it seems to have created a couple of new issues for some users (documented in other forum posts at forums.adobe.com).

  • IWeb '09 Random Font Issues

    Saturday, February 7, 2010
    Hello,
    For my website, I am using Arial as my font. For some reason, only certain pages are having font issues once published. The published Arial fonts are changed to Times and also decreased in size.
    I've been trying to figure out the cause, and it appears to occur when fonts are bold or underlined, but some times I have no issues and other times I can't avoid it.
    I've tried deleting the pages and then starting with a blank page but the font issues keep re-occuring.
    Anybody else experience this and is there a way to solve this?
    Thank you in advance!
    Jeff

    The first thing you need to establish is whether this problem is with iWeb or publishing.
    To do this you need to publish to a local folder by clicking your website name at the top of the left column in the iWeb window and selecting that option on the publishing options page.
    This will give you a folder of files and an index.html file. Double click the index file to launch your site in the browser and see if the errors are present. If they are, the problem is in iWeb. If they aren't, then you have a publishing problem.

  • Font issue in Indesign CS2

    Hi. I just received a new computer and although I have not had any issues with the Palatino Adobe font in the past, for some reason it no longer displays properly (pinked out).  I have uninstalled the font through Adobe Type manager, checked my PS Font folder to make sure there are no Palatino fonts (either True Type, Open Type or Adobe) left in that folder and then reinstalled the font. I then rebooted my computer and although I went through these steps and the only Palatino font on my computer now is an Adobe one, In Design still cannot read the font. I then opened up MS Word, Photoshop, and Illustrator to see if I could access the Palatino font, and I had no issues at all. It seems it's only the In Design program that has an issue reading the font.
    Any suggestions at all would be most welcomed because this is the main font that our company uses and my job depends on it.
    Thanks,
    Colourss

    I had similar issue with Helvetica Medium and Bold fonts. All other variants of Helvetica were displayed nicely in Indesign CS2, but those two were missing. Indesign CS3 was able to display all the fonts correctly. I tried deleting the AdobeFntXX.lst files and uninstalling fonts, copying into different directories, but nothing helped with CS2. Finally I started tweaking the AdobeFntXX.lst file under Fonts folder in the Indesign CS2 installation directoty and got the Medium and Bold fonts working.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Removed problematic fonts from ATM and Windows fonts folder
    2. Copied fonts into Fonts folder under CS2 installation directory
    3. Deleted AdobeFntXX.lst file under Fonts directory
    4. Started InDesign CS2, so new AdobeFntXX.lst file were generated
    5. Edited the AdobeFntlstXX.lst file as follows:
    For Helvetica bold font I replaced dash in the font name with whitespace:
    FontName:Helvetica-Bold   ->   FontName:Helvetica Bold
    For Helvetica Medium font I added text "Medium" to the font name:
    FontName:Helvetica   ->   FontName:Helvetica Medium
    After these changes InDesign CS2 started to display both fonts. I guess it has something to do with font familynames or something like that.
    I know this is not exactly same case as yours, but hopefully it can help you to find the resolution.
