Bold text appears bold and italic

Hi Folks,
Can anyone please explain why this happens?
In FW when I click the bold text button, the text appears bold but italic aswell.

That's unusual. Which version of Fireworks and what operating system are you using?
If you click on the Faux Italic button, is the italic styling removed? (It should be. If not, click twice.) You might want to try quitting and restarting the application—or shutting down and restarting your computer—and see if this takes care of the problem.
FYI: It's generally a better choice to add bolding via the Font Style dropdown menu, if that style is available within the currently selected font family.

Why does text appear bold when published?

My entire web site suffers from text that appears bold when I publish. I have followed various other threads, changed typefaces, put in returns and tried a variety of "tricks" and although some people appear to have fixed it, there is no universal fix that I can find. Has anyone else had any luck solving this? It ***** because it makes the whole page look rather unprofessional. www.brain-storm.com is the site.

This problem occurred last night to me as well. I've been using iWeb for a couple of months with no problem. I added a blog entry and some photos last night and then published. When I checked out the site all of my text was bolded.
I'm new to Macs and iWeb so I struggled for hours last night and this morning to correct it. No luck.
Any ideas someone can suggest would be huge.

Some text appears bold when published. Why?

I've used iWeb to create my very first web-site, but I have an annoying problem. On my links page, one particular block of text appears in bold when viewing on a browser. The text is not bolded, though, in iWeb.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to make this text appear the same as the rest if the text on that page.

Wow -- this is getting stranger and stranger...
I did what you suggested, namely duplicating the "Apple" links text box, deleting the "Films" and "Geekery" text boxes, repositioning the duplicated box into the desired place and re-typing the links. This sounded like a pretty good suggestion.
However...
Now have a look:

If you put your mouse over the "Geekery" links and move it around a bit, you'll see that the Xbox sites have a phantom space that appears and disappears depending on where the mouse is hovering...
The only explanation I can think of is that there is some kind of bug in iWeb's Publish function. Has this section of my web-site been published twice, and the second publish hasn't overwritten the first???
This might be way off mark, but what else could be causing this?
I have checked my file in iWeb, by the way, and there's no hidden text box or anything like that...

Format bold text in field and putting some text on new line - Help!

I am lost. I found the rich text formating item to click. But after that, I don't know what to do next. I want to bold some characters and I want some reponses on separate lines as I asked previously. As to spans and the commands - I have no programming experience. I have just been using what George has given me. It has worked well, but I just need the bold text in some of the field text to be printed and I need some items to be on separate lines. But I have no idea where to put the information you are saying about spans and I do not know the script to use to bold text or to start text on new line. Am I to insert it in the calculation box of the text box? Sorry to be so lame, but I am void in programming skills. Help!
For example, here is the script. In aISOreq{0], if I want to bold "Patter#1 Check:", where do I put the span and what script do I use to say to bold it.   Could you give me an example, please. Also, if I want to put "a. Medications on weekend?" on one line and "b. Activities on weekends? Types of activities? Supervision? With who?" on the next line, where do I put the span and what script do I use to say to put on separate lines? Could you give me an example for this also, please. I have literally just used the scripts George has given me and they work great - but that is all I know how to do. Thanks.

Look at the reference of the richValue property of the Field object. It contains a couple of examples of how it should be done. Also read the reference of the Span object.

I found Your blog and found it really interesting... though I was not able to use it: I (like Jun Li is asking, I guess) need to use a dynamic text, containing formatting informations (according the xhtml syntax).
I tried to pass it to the form by an ABAP-dictionary based interface and by means of the context (in a webdynpro page), but both tries failed.
Some suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Random bold text appears when converting docx to pdf

I'm having a strange issue. When converting a .docx file to .pdf, Acrobat randomly makes words bold. In some instance an entire sentence becomes bold. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

However, by moving some tabs and margins within the word document, Acrobat suddenly recognized all the characters. Very strange!
So, problem solved.

When loading certain websites the text appears funny and I get these strange large black page breaks. Does anyone know what might cause this?

I can see websites that appear like that on Chrome as they should appear, but for some reason Firefox gives me all of that mess. It happens a lot on blogs, if that makes a difference. Also, I tried disabling my add-ons, but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

That is a font problem. Firefox can't find the font and shows little boxes with the hex code instead.
Try to set the pref gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

Acrobat produces a PDF with bold text redacted

Printing a Crystal Report from a Citrix server to Acrobat Pro XI on a Windows 7 desktop. Bold text in the report is redacted (black box).
If I print the same report from my Windows 7 desktop to Acrobat Pro XI then the bold text appears as it should.

I checked the font used in the Crystal reports (there are hundreds of reports) - the reports use Arial Unicode MS Regular (ARIALUNI.TTF) and the Font embeddability = Editable (whatever that means). The same font is used for bold and normal text - the normal text is fine but the bold text is redacted or blacked out.
At this point I'm out of my area of expertise.
I confirmed with my client that they are using pdfFactory and it works well using the same reports - go figure.

Altering Text Appearance

I'm using a JTextArea to document for the user of actions going on within the program (a battle system for a game). However, I would like to make certain text appear bolded or italicized.
Using the method setFont(Font a) doesnt work because it changes all the text in the JTextArea.
I'm using the method append(String a) to add Strings into the JTextArea. I don't think there's a way to make a String bold is there?
Anyone have any ideas of how to do this? Or recommendation a better way to do my task?

Text appears twice after exporting

On a video that I am working on there is a section with some scrolling text. It appears fine in FCE but after I export it with quicktime conversion it seems to appear with a ghost image right after it. All of the text appears twice and the second one is quite a bit fainter.
Is it a problem with my conversion settings?

I thought that somebody would at least know if it was possible to create a problem like this by setting something wrong in the conversion settings. Or that they would know the specific setting that would cause it. In which case they could just tell me what that specific setting was and there would be no need for me to type all of them out.

Text appearing as Bold and Italic in CS4

Hi Guys
Whenever I create a new document and type into it the text is automatically 'bold' and 'italics', I have saved the page and opened on another computer running CS4 and the text is fine (not bold or italic). I have created a page on another computer and opened it on the troublesome one and again it is bold and italic ((
I cannot see anything in the preferences that may cause it, I have also discarded the configuration folder which contains the preferences for the program - no good either (( So as a last resort I have re-installed Dreamweaver and it is still playing up. I guess I can re-installs the complete CS4 suite but rather not as it is going to take a while and also may not fix the problem.
Any ideas anybody??

BUG - in flash pro CC, 'bold' and 'italic' properties of TextFormat have no effect on rendered text

Concise problem statement:
If you compile with flash pro CC, and use the 'setTextFormat' method of a TextField, the 'bold' and 'italic' properties of the TextFormat argument have no effect on the rendered text. If you compile with flash pro CS6, the 'bold' and 'italic' properties work as expected.
Apparently, with flash pro CC, the only way to make the text render correctly is to change the font name (add the suffix ' Bold', ' Italic', or ' Bold Italic'.) This means code which dynamically changes font styles only works in CS6 or CC, but not both. For example, if you use the 'bold' property the text renders bold in CS6 and regular in CC, whereas if you change the font name to add the suffix ' Bold', the text renders bold in CC and DOES NOT RENDER at all in CS6. This makes it difficult to transition a team from CS6 to CC.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Create an xfl with 2 TextFields on the stage, both with font "Trebuchet MS" and style "regular", one named boldTrueText containing the String "bold = true", one named fontNameText containing the String "fontName = Trebuchet MS Bold". Create 2 more TextFields on the stage for visual reference, both with font "Trebuchet MS", one with style "regular", one with style "bold".
2. Add the following code to the Actions panel on frame 1:

With flash pro CC, the following is traced:

If you don't want to break backward compatibility (any further), you could make both the behaviors work in flash pro CC, like so:
With flash pro CC, "bold = true" renders bold (font is still "Trebuchet MS"), and "fontName = Trebuchet MS Bold" renders bold also.
With flash pro CC, the following is traced:
fontName: Trebuchet MS, fontStyle: bold

I submitted this bug with the bug form, and also with adobe bugbase (in case it isn't obsolete) - I'm just trying to maximize my chances of getting a fix. Has anyone else encountered this bug?

I just can't believe how there is ZERO documenation for any of this. Flash's stylesheets have fontStyle and fontWeight properties, but they only recognize regular/italic and regular/bold respectively.
This change in Flash CC completely breaks systems built in Flash CS6, and the font naming is actually arbitrary and is not a consistant combination of font name and style (e.g. "Eras ITC" family's bold font name is "Eras Bold ITC", but the bold version of Times New Roman is "Times New Roman Bold" (with Bold at the end, rather than the middle), and what's absolutely appaling is that the font name used at runtime is not exposed anywhere in the Flash IDE!!! In the IDE you select a font family and font style independently, which is absolutely not what's used at runtime, because it actually uses a separate, arbitrarily named field in the font file for the font name. So we can't even know from within Flash what the proper runtime name is, unless we trace it out or open the font properties details tab in Windows explorer.
It seems that Flash CC is always using the font "Title" that can be found in the properties of the font, NOT the font name displayed in Windows Font Preview or in Flash CC. For example, the font name for Times New Roman Bold in Windows Font Preview is just "Times New Roman", but the font title in the properties/details tab is "Times New Roman Bold". If they made the change to allow for specific fonts to be selected, that's fine, but it completely breaks HTML support in TextFields if it's not respecting bold and italic tags.

The CSS provided in every kit uses a unique font-family name for each weight and style, and sets the weight and style in the @font-face declaration to normal. [...] Notice that the font-family names are unique, with each font-family name accessing the appropriate Web font files."
But there's just no mention of this in any documentation I can find. What the hell.
It's also helpful to realize that font and u tags have been deprecated in HTML5, while b and i tags have been repurposed since they still retain semantic meaning apart from style: https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-b-and-i-tags

Emails appear in bold text (subject and body)

A few days after installing OS X Yosemite on my iMac, all of my Comcast emails appear in bold text (subject and body text). This makes it difficult to distinguish unread email from read email. I view email directly through the Comcast website (NOT with Outlook or Mail). This issue happens in Firefox and Safari. My email looks normal on other devices. I am working with Comcast to try to resolve the issue, but since it started a few days after upgrading to Yosemite, I thought I'd check here too.

Try to set the Boolean pref gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false on the about:config page.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

Bold and italic fonts in dynamic text fields.

I have a dynamic text field with the text "IMAGES". The font
is Arial, it has BOLD and ITALIC checked, and has basic Latin fonts
embedded. Now, I use Actionscript to change the text:
textField.text = "IMAGES";
Suddenly the text disappears! Now, it seems to me that since
BOLD and ITALIC are checked on the text field, changing the .text
value should simply change the text itself, which should then be
rendered in bold and italic, and since I have bold+italic Latin
glyphs embedded, it should display properly. But what's clearly
happening is that when I set the text using Actionscript, it is
attempting to display the NORMAL font instead, and since it's not
embedded, it won't display. I know this because if I create another
proxy text field off the screen and embed the NORMAL Arial glyphs,
the original text field's text will display just fine - as
normal-weight text.
But why is this? Do I have to use a TextFormat object to set
the text to Bold and Italic EVERY time I want to dynamicaly change
the text? This seems silly. I simply want my text field to be bold
and italic every time the text changes, and NO normal text!
Any ideas?

I met the same problem using ActionScript3 and Flash Professional CS5. There are two problems with dynamic TextFields:
- When you set style "Bold" for a text field in CS5, the "bold" property is not available in the TextField object in ActionScript, its defaultTextFormat.bold is alway false; I don't know if we can get this property anywhere else.
- When you change the text of the dynamic TextField object, its style changes to normal no matter whether it was bold previously.
This is really a bug in TextField, Adobe should fix this to implement TextField in an expected way.

Random text appearing as bold when creating PDF from Photoshop CS5

Hi I am a relative newcomer to Photoshop CS5. I have been creating a document with a background image layer and a couple of text box layers. The font is set at Arial, italic, sharp. When I save the document as a PDF file, random words appear in bold. I have tried deleting these words in the PSD document text layer and retyping them but they still appear as bold in the PDF file. Interestingly when I save as a JPEG image the bold words appear as normal. Any ideas/ tips would be greatly appreciated. CS5 version is 12.0.4 and OS is Windows XP.
