Bold type in InDesign

When I place a Illustrator CS3 Ai file into InDesign CS3, the first line after it becomes bolded, but if I save the same file as a eps format and replace the AI file, the first line after the illustrator image is normal. All of the type and artwork is on one layer. Is this a bug and has anyone else come across this problem? It does not happen all of the time as there are other files placed where this does not happen. Is there a work around for this problem, as we do a lot of files that need to move with the type.

>there are no transparencies involved.
Ah, but from InDesign's perspective, there are, or at least might be. Since the PDF portion of a PDF-compatible .ai file is PDF 1.4 (I think), it may contain live transparency. What happens if you bring up the InDesign Flattener Preview panel (Window > Output > Flattener Preview), choose to highlight "Transparent Objects," and press the "Refresh" button? My guess is that the Illustrator element will highlight in red. Then, if you select to highlight "All Affected Objects," my guess is that the text you see getting fatter on the print will also be highlighted. Is that correct?
Here are some possible solutions:
Check the Illustrator files for any transparency - less than 100% opacity, non-normal blend modes, effects, etc. and remove them or flatten them in Illustrator
Use a Transparency Flattener preset the is set to convert all text to outlines. (This will make the text on all affected pages bolder, like the currently-fattened text).
Use EPS files which, as you found, do not have this problem since all the transparency in the Illustrator file gets flattened when creating an EPS as PostScript does not support transparency

  • Thunderbird is telling me that there is an unread message and it is one I read several days ago, listed in bold type again.

    Every day or so Thunderbird says there is an unread message. I look for it and find it on the list of my messages received. It is in bold type as if it is unread. However I had read the message days ago.
    I had this problem a couple weeks ago and decided to delete all the messages in my inbox. That solved the problem for a couple weeks, now it is back. I thought at first it was because my inbox was getting overloaded but now there are only a couple hundred messages in it. Maybe I should just uninstall Thunderbird and then install it again.

    remove all mails from the inbox (Copy them to another folder or delete them. It makes litle difference.
    Now Select File menu (alt+F) > compact folders.
    I am guessing there is some corruption hiding away in there. A compact should fix it, but will do it better on an empty folder.

  • Why am I seeing italicized words in a pdf file in bold type?

    In my iPad2 why do I see italicized words in a pdf file in bold type?

    I think it cannot be that the way of transport to the iPad (Dropbox) is causing this, or does it happen only when transferred through Dropbox?.
    The only thing that comes to mind is that a particular font is not in the iPad and then replaced by a default and not displayed as expected.
    The PDF's come from the same computer everytime? PC or Mac? Which program?
    With which app do you read the PDF's in the iPad (iBooks, PDFreader, Goodreader, or..?). If you have several readers: do all display this phenomenon?

  • Creating Reverse Type in InDesign CS2

    Working with InDesign CS2 - not sure how to reverse type.  PM7 had an option under Type Style to reverse type (change to white to show in a black box).
    Unable to find such a feature in InDesign CS2.   How is type reversed in InDesign CS2?  Only way I've seen is to select the type and color it white (color selection not easy for type it seems).  Is there an easy, quick way to reverse type in InDesign CS2?
    Would appreciate any help on this you can give.

    Above and beyond Ken's factual answer... it's not easy because it's robust. You can do so much more with type color in ID than you can in another app where there's just a "reverse type" checkbox. In fact, pretty much across the board, ID is more robust, so if you really need a way to change color of text, there are at least three or four different ways to do so, some more automated than others, and if the multitude of options still isn't enough, you can write a Javascript or Applescript or VB script to do it for you.
    But no, there's no particular setting for "reverse type" unless you make one yourself. I'd suggest a character style with a keyboard shortuct.

  • Bullets (numbers) in bold type, text in regular...impossible?

    I've searched high and low and could not find a solution to my problem:
    How can I format a bullet (in my case, numbers) WITHOUT formatting the text next to it. I mean, bullet in bold and text in regular type.
    Am I missing something or is this not possible in Keynote?
    Any help is most welcome.

  • Bold type displays too large on some pages

    Bold italic type is displaying about twice the size that it should on two pages of an eight page site. (Type box also has plain italic.) I know what I'm doing, and have about 50 pages on five different sites, and these recent two pages are the only ones displaying wrong. Have html snippets from flickr with affected type boxes, but I have these on over 40 pages with no problems. I selected text and set all to correct size, but didn't help. What's going on?

    As an example, the "U S Coast Guard Station Ma'alaea" at the bottom right of the Map page is a span with a class "style_1". The html is...
    <span class="style_1">U. S. Coast Guard Station Ma’alaea</span>
    ... and the CSS...
    .style_1{
    font-family:'Arial-BoldItalicMT','Arial',sans-serif;
    font-size:16px;
    font-stretch:normal;
    font-style:italic;
    font-weight:700;
    line-height:20px
    Note that the font size is 16px - not 13px.
    If this is not what you chose in iWeb, you need to troubleshoot the application itself.

  • Import Math Type to Indesign

    I am about to layout a Scientific report that needs to be printed for next month.
    There are a lot of Math formulars that needs to be colorized in Indesign.
    I  have tried to save the Math type into a EPS. file which works fine, however my biggest problem is that I can't change the color. Is there somebody that can help me?

    Of course MathType supports CMYK:
    Is the problem that when you change to CMYK, the preference doesn't stick? Or did we not make the CMYK choice easy enough to find? (That question isn't intended as an insult; I honestly want to know. If a feature is too hard to find, we should either make it easier to find directly in the UI or improve the documentation to describe it better.)

  • Can you override scaled type in indesign CS6?

    I have many charts that have been made over the course of multiple years. I now need to have them all on the same page. I'd like to respecify the type without recreating all the charts from scratch. Although I am highlighting and putting in the correct point size it is not allowing me to hold it. And is giving me a (6.5 pt) sort of thing next to the 7 I am putting in. Is there any way to get rid of that old scaling so I can make all my trick charts print in the same point size?

    There's a menu in the upper right of your work area. With the text box selected, choose Redefine scaling as 100%
    (it's greyed out in my screen shot because what i had selected was not scaled, but it will be available if you have scaled content selected)

  • Under which license type are InDesign Script provided ?

    Hi guys,
    At work we use ID CS3. It comes with a script called "CropMarks". It's a great script but it doesn't really fit ours needs. I modifyed it (add bleed management & doesn't draw marks inside the selection) to fit ours wishes.
    Some other people may need a such script so I wanted to give it for free.
    I don't know where I can put a script (I mean online) and most importantly, I don't know if I'm allowed to do this. This is not a script I wrote from scratch, I modifyed a script shipped with ID.
    So are those scripts under GNU license or anything. Must I give my script under a certain license ?
    Thank you for your help !

    Hi Loic,
    You can distribute the script. You just can't claim it as your own--you might say something like:
    //Created by Adobe Systems, Inc., modified by Loic TEIXEIRA
    The original script shouldn't draw marks inside the selection unless you select the Each Object option. Have you seen cases where it does that?
    Thanks,
    Ole

    Hi,
    this can be related to the compression of the PDF file.
    You can turn off the FlateDecode compression again via report RSTXPDF3 as described in Note #843480. It is a little confusing. The option 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' needs to be set to 'On' to turn off the FlateDecode compression.
    To set this please run as follows:
    se38 -> RSTXPDF3 -> enter 'FLATE_COMPR_OFF' in the 'Name' field -> Select 'Change Settings' radio button
    You will get a pop-up 'Do not use flat compression'.
    Select the 'on' button.
    After this check if the PDF is created correctly.
    regards,
    Aidan

  • Type thickness varies in PDF's exported from InDesign

    I'm using InDesign CS3 (5.0.2) on an IMac (OSX 10.5). When exporting a multi page document as a PDF, the type looks bolder on some pages than others. The varying text has the same paragraph style and is linked. It looks great in InDesign but when I export it, it varies.
    Any ideas as to how to fix this problem?

    OK. I checked the flattener preview and I found out that the pages with a rasterized image on them WERE the pages that had the bolder type. I also noticed that the pages that had the rasterized images had the "transparency box" indication in the pages flyout. Now I don't know how to correct it...some pages have flattened images, some do not. I have tried going into the individual pages and changing the spread flattening. Any suggestions?
    BTW, I am using Acrobat onscreen view to preview the pdf's.
    Thanks for the clue!

  • Type appearance in indesign

    Anyone noticed a pretty huge difference between the appearance of text onscreen in quark versus indesign? Type in Indesign looks a lot heavier onscreen compared to quark. It prints fine of course, but the appearance is offputting, especially to the quark based designers at my work I'm trying to convert... I've googled about and searched on here, but no joy.

    No changes beyond the default settings and this applies to all the mac in the studio I work in (4) as well as my home machine. I have tried the high res view setting also.
    Specifically the lighter text weights such as Gill Sans Light looks bolder than compared to quark, or even the pdf.

  • How to find the file type without the file extension using indesign javascript (.jsx)

    hi,
    How to identify the file type (eg: InDesign or Quark) without knowing their file type. How can we find what kind of file is that??? without their extension like ('.indd','.qxd') before import to the document...

    Hi subha_oviya,
    Take a look at the file filtering section in the InDesign CS3 sample script ImageCatalog.jsx to see how to look for file types. I'm assuming that you're using InDesign CS3, and that you're using the Mac OS--you didn't say.
    Thanks,
