BOM Archive Helper (Tiger) v Archive Helper (Leopard) - what gives?

Drop a tar.gz on old Tiger BOM archive helper and it unpacked, compiled or whatever and left you with a disk image on your desktop where you could drag the app to your apps folder.
In Leopard all I seem to get with the "archive helper" is an unpacked folder - behaving more like unStuffit - with files still needing to be compiled.
I took tar.gz file across to Mac running Tiger and it unpacks as usual, so I realized there appears to be a difference between the old BOM Archive Helper and the Leopard "archive helper" --- they left something out it seems to me namely the compiling bit.
Anyone throw any light on this?

Hi, I think the problem is the crazy deal that once unzipped, it can have a completely unrelated Name & creation date, for those I move the ZIP file to a New Folder al it's own, unzip it there by double clicking, and the result should be in that folder.

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Macbook Pro Tiger to Macbook Pro Leopard

I just purchased a new MBP with Leopard and need to move my itunes library and iphoto library from my Tiger MBP to my Leopard MBP.
Everything else will be re-installed. I really don't have that much installed and I have the dmg's backed up so re-install will be fairly easy.
What's the easiest way to do this? Can I just copy the itunes folder and iphoto folder to an external hard disk and then copy to my Leopard MBP?

I am not that technical in my style of explaining how to's, but this is what i ended up doing to copy my music from itunes from my old computer to my new computer.
If you have an external hard drive and can copy to that, i would open up the hard drive icon on the tiger mbp, and open up the icon with the house and that has your user name on it.
then copy the music folder and pictures folders and whatever other folders you want onto your external hard drive.
then i would copy from your hard drive to the new computer, your music folder over the the same music folder and pictures folder that you can find on your new computer's house icon part.
sorry for the lack of technical language, but that is the best way i can describe what i did to copy my old stuff to my new MBP.

A Pack Lot Code is 0002
A battery firmware version of 0110

Yesterday taking consierable time, effort and money I upgraded Pages, Numbers and Keynote and now I can't get "SAVE AS" in pages! Help! What to do?

Now I can't get "Save As" in Pages. It will only show "Save a Version".

I don't think you lose anything going from Lion to Mountain Lion. Lion just seems "unfinished" to me. I don't have Lion on any Mac. I do have one running Snow Leopard & a couple of PPC Macs running Tiger.
The only way to upgrade to Mountain Lion is to purchase it in the Mac App Store.

I can't set up Time Machine---Help! What "User Name" and password do I use

I finally got the Time Capsule and installed Leopard, but now that I'm trying to set up Time Machine, it's asking for a user name and password. I've entered the admin user name and password to my computer with no luck, then tried the name of the Time Capsule and the password for that, no luck there either. What the heck is it looking for? Hey, I got left and right confused late one night No problem.
I mentioned it only because I once used that software and only because I checked it before upgrading to Leopard did I realize it didn't work too well, even with Tiger.
LaCie makes great hardware, but in the software area they are a bit soft.

I'm new to Macs. Just got a new iMac. It was still with Tiger and iLife preinstalled. Have tried to upgrade Leopard today. Ended with a password problem. Tried a lot from forums.. nothing helped. (btw may be there's at last a working solution?)
Anyway I'm ready to install a fresh copy (since my docs r on external drive). The question is, will I be able to install me-gifted iLife from my iMac Tiger disk, from a Leopard??

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.

5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

Try deleting the problematic app and then re-downloading the app from the app store.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option which is revealed by tapping the updates option at the bottom of the screen of the App store app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
I have asked for your email address to be edited out. Posting your address in an open thread is a sure way to be bombarded by unwanted email, remember it will be here long after you have resolved your problem, for automated detection software to find.

HELP! What Are Options?

I'm behind on my payments due to being laid off, and would love to know what my options are. I've heard financial services can help, but what exactly can they do? Will they help me get my phone back on asap? I love Verizon and would appreciate any advice or help. I called the Customer Services twice, and was disconnected both times while being transferred. The rep was rude and grumpy and insisted on having me make mu past due amount, which I am unable to do. I can make partial payments but I don't think it'll reactivate my phone. Anyone know my options? I feel defeated after talking with rude CSRs.

If your account has not been suspended for non-pmt:
You can call customer care at 1-800-922-0204 to schedule a "promise to pay" option with financial services. they will schedule payment options with you. You will need to be 12 days past due on your past due balance or have a "Y" indicator on your balance account information for them to set up payment plans for you.
If you are past due and services are disconnected:
You will have to pay the past due balance before the will establist a reconnect for you. You will have to pay a $15.00 reconnect fee per line, and proration charges for your services reconnected if it is within you 30 day billing cycle, plus a one month in advance charge on your month price plan and any features you have on the line(s).
then, you will be able to schedule a promise to pay arrangment on your current charges with online services in your view bill link or the *611 automated system to schedule a electronic withdrawn payment 7 days in advance with a checking acount or credit/debit card. make sure to have an account credit card or checking account saved on file in your account so you will not have to input all the numbers on the account information. it will make it easier for the system and faster to process the scheduled payment.

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...
