BOM explosion report and lot size

Hi all
We have created a Z report for BOM explosion . Here it gives the user the option to explode the BOM at the desired level.
We have an enhancement ticket where  the user wants an additional field of Minimum lot size and Maximum lot size in the report.
Before assigning a task to the ABAP team , I request if some one explains the feasibility and its impact on this report. Thanks in advance .
Kind Regards
Ayaz

Thanks Bramhankar for the reply .How does the functional module affect this report ?Thanks

    Hi All,
I have problem with BOM explosion report CS12.
We have material with 3 level BOM. While we are running CS12, upto 2nd level appears in the report. 3 rd level components dose'nt show. what may be the reason. I have checked validity period & BOM status is active for all levels.
    REgards,
    Srijit.

    HI
Check the explosion types in OS17 also check whether phantom asseblies indicator in OS17.
Check In BOM for whether you have defined some material as Phantom or not?

  • Discontinued parts in BoM explosion reports

I am having difficulty with the BoM explosion reports (CS11-13, and CSP1-3), in that they seem to take no notice of discontinuation.  In particular we have some assemblies which are discontinued, and replaced by alternative parts with a different sub-assembly BoM.  It does not seem possible to explode through the new BoM - the reports appear to continue to use the obsolete assembly.
Am I doing something wrong?  It would seem clear that the reports should explode the BoM through the new assemblies, particularly if there is no stock of the obsolete part.
Is there an alternative way to get a BoM explosion report which does take note of the discontinuation data?

    Hi,
In my opinion discontinuation is considered only during MRP run (planning) and has nothing to do with BOM reports (CS03, CS11, CS12, CSMB, etc).
    SAP online help:
If this indicator is set, the material is defined as 'to be discontinued'. The material is then discontinued in MRP. MRP transfers dependent requirements that are no longer covered by stock of this material to the follow-up material.
So, I think you won't see the follow-up material in BOM reports. Even if you maintain the discountinuation in BOM I think you cannot see the actual sitruation in BOM reports (you will see both follow-up and discontinued material).
I hope I'm mistaken and this is a solved issue in SAP.

  • Alternative unit of measure in BOM explosion report

    Dear gurus
I want to get the alternative unit of measure along with the base unit of measure during the BOM explosion report in CS11.I tried with the layout but I cant find the same.
    How is this possible?
    regards
    kumar s

    Hi Kumar,
You can develop  a Z report. In the standard CS11, the functionality of displaying the alternate UOM is not feasible.

  • Difference between batch and lot size

What is the difference between batch size and lot size. How do these quantities relate to production planning &  machine capacity planning.
    Regards

    Hi,
Lot size: Some times specific materials are not referred individually but are represented in groups or lots.
When we maintian BOM/production version/routing it is sometime convinenit to maintain compoenent  qty / operaion times ect..  for speciifc lots .. we also call them base qty.
we can create different master data for different lot sizes and it is consider in auto selection of this master data in production orders.
MRP can also intiate procurement / production in speciifc lots and this lot size in size is maintained in material master ans lot sizing procedure is maintianed in MRP customiziation.
Batch Size: some times batch size and lot size can be interheprited same in busienss langauge but they have fundamental
difference from SAP point of view. .
In SAP Batch is homoginious non reproducible Unit of  material. The batch zise depends on GR qty of the specific batch.

  • Help on Planning Calender and lot size procedure settings

    Hi Gurus,
We have 2 different schedule at the moment for our PO Placing to our supplier :
    1. Planning Calendar D01 --> For Seafreight shipment, PO Placing on bi-weekly basis, every Monday and RDD (Request Delivery Date) is on Thursday (11 days after PO Placing)
    2. Planning Calendar D02 --> For Airfreight shipment, PO Placing on weekly basis, every Friday and RDD (Request Delivery Date) is on Wednesday (5 days after PO Placing)
Now we have required to change the SEAFREIGHT process by having the PO Placing on weekly basis, every Monday and RDD (Request Delivery Date) is on Wednesday (9 days after PO Placing).
Please let me know the step by step procedure to create a new Planning Calendar and Lot Size Procedure to accomodate this requirement?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Brijesh

    Dear Brijesh:
    1. I think you are planning to change the Planning calendare D01.
    2. For this go to MD26- GIVE THE plant / palnning calendar id.
    3. Then in the CAlc rule for spec peroid - change the day from wednesday to Monday.
    4. SAve this and generate periods.
    5. Now in the maeterial master- check if you have the lot size as PK and also planning calendar as d01.
    6. In the planned dleiveyr times you enter 9 days.
Kindly check this and revert back.

  • How to know if a MRP run element is using Quota Arrangement and lot size?

    Hi all,
    Two questions:
    A) How to determine if a source is actually pulled from Quota Arrangement?
I am wondering if there is anyway from ABAP table or from Transaction (i.e. Purchasing Order) in which the source is pulled from a Quota Arrangement?
We use scheduling agreement, PIR and source list, and as well as Quota Arrangement for our purchasing.
I just want to know how, from system (table and transaction), to find out the source is from quota, not from PIR or others.
    B) Quota Arrangement still can work properly if lot-size procedure's splitting quota indicator not Checked?
If my the lot-size procedure which I am using for a material does not activate the splitting quota indicator, it means split quota will not work during MRP run.
But does this also mean that quota arrangement will not be working for this particular material even if I have create a a quota arrangement object (via MEQ1) for this material?
    Thanks
    Daniel

    Tomek,
If I want to use the split quota, it seems there is some pre-requisite.
If you go to MEQ1 and press F1's on the "Minimum qty split" column, and you will notice the following message.
Allocation by quota using splitting quotas is only carried out via a requirement planning run, subject to the following preconditions:
Through the appropriate entry in the field Quota arrangement usage (on the MRP data screen 2 or Purchasing screen) it must have been specified that a quota arrangement is to be applied in the planning run.
The indicator for the splitting quota must be set for the the lot-sizing procedure used for materials planning purposes in Customizing.
Hence, the quota arrangmeent still workable even if the lot-size does not have the spliting quota box checked?
Indicator: Splitting quota in short-term horizon
The indicator for splitting is used to determine that in the case of the selected lot size, the quota arrangement is to be applied using the splitting logic.
    Use
If this indicator has been set, the lot is split up in the planning run according to the following formula:
                                quota for source X
    Quantity for source  X = --------------------- * requirement
                               sum of all quotas

  • Planning time fence and Lot size

    Hi,
MRP type=P3, Planning time fence=28 days, lot sizs=EX and all 28 days are working days.
so today =05/112009 and i check the MD04 End of planning time fence is 03/12/2009
But when i change the lot size to =ZC(3 Months lot size) keeping the rest all same as above.
and when i check MD04 The planning time fence moved to 01/01/2010
What should be done to keep the planning time fence as 03/12/2009 and i don not want to change either MRP Type or lot size

    Praveen,
I think your Lotsize Indicator is based on Planning Calendar. Please check the period definations of the planning calendar assigned to the material in the MRP2 view.

  • 'Start of Lot Size Grouping' and 'Lot Size Strategy' parameters

    Hello,
For "by period" lot sizing procedure, could anyone explain the difference between:
    - "Start of Lot Size Grouping" flagged with  "Lot Size Strategy": 1
    - "Start of Lot Size Grouping" flagged with  "Lot Size Strategy": blank ?
I  have played around with  both options and both produced the same result. If anyone could provide some insight , I would appreciate it.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Datta,
    Thank you for your help.
You indicated that the "The first period of the grouping horizon can be different than the period in which demand exists".
How would the first period be different? What other elements could be considered for the start of the horizon?
For example,   Periodic Lot of 4 weeks, Lot Size Strategy 1 or blank  and Start of Lot Sizing Group Flagged produced the exactly same result. What is interesting about it, is that with Lot Size Strategy "blank" the group production quantity is placed in a bucket where there is no demand. The results with Lot Size Strategy "1" makes sense as I have the grouped quantity placed in a bucket where I have shortage due to Safety Days requirement and not necessarily demand.
                                 w1     w2     w3     w4     w5     w6         w7            w8
    Total Demand     125     42     42     41          110     37     73

    Safety Days´ Supply     43     43     43     43     43     43     43     43

  • Planned order with Lot size and Planning Calendar in MRP

    Hi All
I request your help in understanding MRP results in below mentioned scenario:
    Material: A
    Planning Calendar: D1 (Monday only)
    MRP Type: PD
Lot size: Z1 (this is copy of PK with Period Start = Start Date)

I am executing MRP on 7.04.11
As shown above the, can you please explain why the planned order is on Wed 12th and it covers 5 days requirement and similarly Tuesday 19th and covers 6 days.
I am not able to relate the relation between Planning calendar and Lot size procedure used. Also what would happen if I make planning calendar valid for two days in a week.
    Thanks in advance
    Rahul

    Thanks dear
Yes you are right the Planning Calendar starts 18.4.11 and ends 24.4.11
Now as far as first planned order is concerned I thought it should be scheduled to start&end  on Monday 11.04.11, rather it starts&ends on Tuesday 12.4.11. Also the actual coverage days goes up to 5 days even though its maintained for 3 days.
Similarly the second planned order also comes up on Tuesday 19.04.11 and covers 6 days (more than the setting and planning Calendar of only Monday)
On the whole this is confusing me on Lot size and Planning Calendar relation and how it impacts MRP. Can you please help me on this.
Also if you can throw some details on: how to restrict MRP to give planned order only on, say, Monday and Thursday, as only then it could be produced.
    Thanks in advance

  • MRP RUN- KIT BOM explosion not working

We setup one layer BOM’s for our maintenance KITs as parent material and components as child material.  For  example KIT is TS10000-K1 and components are TS10001, TS10002 etc setup as next layer with in the BOM. Both KITS and components are defined as material types ERSA (Spare parts). These one layers BOMs are setup as production BOMs and expected to create purchase requisitions for KITS and components by exploding BOMs during MRP runs. We use purchase requisitions and convert them into POs to procure both KITS and components. We DO NOT USE Panned orders and Production orders.
The safety stocks / reorder point are considered as demand for KITS and components as we do not have any external demand for KITS and components.
MRP run is creating purchase requisitions automatically for both KITS and components as per safety stocks and reorder point defined in MRP Views of Material Master. This is working as expected.
The issue is: KIT BOM’s are not exploding to generate purchase requisitions for the dependent components of KIT BOM. Please suggest the way to resolve this issue.
Split valuation: Also we plan to use split valued KITS with both new and refurbished. So we need BOM explosion for split valued KITS
also (after the 1st issue is resolved).
I verified the following items to make sure the required configuration and data setup is defined correctly.
    1) Planning file activated Plant - OMDU
    2) Executed MRP run with Total Planning - MDBT and MD02 (single item, multiple levels)
    3) BOM explosion for MRP activated- OS23
    4) MRP type in MRP1 view- PD and VB (I tried both separately but BOM is not exploding).
    5) Procurement type “F” (MRP 2 view) and lot size “EX”
    6) Planning strategy in MRP 3 view (tested w/o planning strategy and with strategies 10 and 40. But BOM is not exploded)
    7) BOM status and usage (status is active and usage is for production-CS02 and OS20)
    8) BOM Validity date (Valid)
    9) BOM structure in CS12 (BOM is exploding in CS11)
    10) Availability check
    11) Selection of BON ID to have BOM usage indicator assign (OS31).
    12) No alternate BOMs or production versions or work scheduling view are used.
Please review the above 2 issues and suggest any workable solution. Thanks in advance!
NOTE: I extensively used MRP with multi-level BOM explosion in my earlier projects without any issue. However the above issue is a  bit strange  why one layer BOM is not exploded in this case.
    Regards
    Srini

    Hi
Thanks for your response. I reviewed all SAP notes and none of them are applicable to my scenario.
1808396 - BOM changes not considered by MRP: I have not changed BOMs.
1781324 - MD11: Valid BOM alternative is not found. We do not have alternative BOMs.
1791009 - No BOM explosion after changing production version: We am not using production versions.
Our Material KITS are PM spare assemblies set up as BOMs and consists of individual spare parts as components. We are creating purchase requisitions and not planned orders. We are not using PP functionality/Production orders.
MRP is generating purchase requisitions for KITS and components as per ROP and safety stocks. In other words it is working as expected.  The issue is BOMs which are parent assemblies are not exploding to the next lower level components.
Please note that I am not getting any error messages when MRP is executed.
    Regards
    Srini.

  • BOM explosion for Multiple  materials

    Dear All
In Cs11 where we can get bom explosion  report for single material, but i need multiple material more than one material as desired.
Any Std T code is there.

    Dear Sukendar,
1.For this requirement you have to go for a Z report and you can give the Functional Spec's to prepare
this report to your ABAP consultant.Prepare the input format, logic of the program and the output format.
In the logic part you can make use of this Functional Modules's CSAP_MAT_BOM_READ or
    CSEP_MAT_BOM_READ  or CS_BOM_EXPLOSION   or CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 .
2.Using CEWB helps you to identify all the material that's having the BOM,but here the report does not
shows you the level by level by BOM for a FERT.
    Check and revert back.

  • BOM explosion where first BOM alternative has deletion flag

    Hi,
I got the following very basic scenario:
One FERT material has two BOM alternatives (alternative 1 and 2). Both of them are valid in terms of date, status and lot size. When a production order is created by CO01 the system will pick automatically alternative 1 (which is ok for me). BUT if this BOM alternative 1 gets a deletion flag (on BOM alternative header) I would expect that the system would automatically pick alternative 2 (it is the "next" suitable alternative). But the systems says there is no valid BOM available.
Only if I really delete alternative 1 (so I cannot see it anymore in CS02), the system would pick alternative 2 (because it is now the really first one available - no version in front with only deletion flag). But in terms of documentation I cannot delete the alternatives.
Maybe somebody could explain that to me or had a similar problem...
    BR and thanks in advance.
    Christian

    Hi Guys,
many thanks for your suggestions. Setting the status to inactive did the trick. Obviously the deletion flag is not enough at this point.
Just to clarify - production version of course would be an option but that did not work with the following:
I have 6 different routings for this FERT and the user has to choose when the production order is created. That works basically fine when the order is created with CO01 (popup for selection of production version based on MRP4 setting). BUT when a planned order is converted directly from MD04 into a production order the system would automatically pick production version 1 (no matter what setting in MRP4 view). If there are no production version the user would get at least a popup for choosing a routing. But this would maybe an additional thread in the forum
    Thanks
    Christian

  • MRP net requirement calcualtion for Lot sizes

    Hi all ,
Can some one help me on this ..
I want to set up the MRP for the Raw materials Procurement .
for this i want use MRP type as PD and lot size as WB Weekly lot size .
but as per the requirement the MRP is run daily , i need clarification on certain things such as how does the system calculates the weekly lot size ?  say if the requirement is converted into PR on the first day of the MRP run ,followed by that if the requirement varies does the system creates a new PR or it changes the Qty in the existing PR if its was not converted to PO .
what are the stock types considered during PR creation and how are the delivery dates determined during the PR creation ?
    thanks ,
    ksr

    Hi Chris
You can try to set up a maximum lot size and a takt time on the material master.
Take a look on the F1 help of this field on the material master:
    Takt time
If a requirement quantity (for example, for capacity reasons) cannot be procured in a single lot, you have to schedule several receipts. In conjunction with the overlap indicator in the lot size (set in Customizing for the lot size), you can use the takt time to specify that these receipts are offset, that is, that they are delayed by the takt time.
You enter the takt time in workdays.
    Use
The system uses the takt time if a requirement is covered by several receipt elements due to restrictions on lot size such as maximum lot size (with all lot-sizing procedures) or rounding value (with fixed lot size with splitting).
