BOM Revision Level

Hi,
We are uploading the BOMs into server. While manual creation of BOM I am able to update the revision level of the BOM. But we are unable to update it while uploading through LSMW. Please suggest me in this regard.
Thanks
Ramakanth

We have ECM in our project.
We have to take all the BOMs from the previous version of SAP and upload to the new all of them to the new version.
All the BOMs have revision levels w.r.t. to a change number.
While manually changing the BOM the revision level can be updated by entering the BOM w.r.t. a change number and then in the menu --> extras --> new revision level.
Now we have to upload the BOMs through LSMW. It is not picking up the revision level while uploading.
Please give your suggestions.

• Automatic revision level in CS01 on initial create

Hi, I have a task to find out about BOM revision levels and if they can be automatically created when the BOM is created in CS01. Our users are imaging that the step of choosing extras, next revision level will be too much for them to remember. This would be for the rev level to automatically be created based on auth group and change master, but for the initial create and also the subsequent revsions. They just don't want to manually choose the next revision level. Is this a configurable option? I have looked at OS54 and we have it set to automatc revision levels, but that is not what is happening with this.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
The automatic revision level assignment is not meant for this purpose.
I think there is no standard functionality to automatically assign revision levels to BOMs, it can be done through development.

• BOM explosion in subcontracting order according to revision level

Hello experts
I have different revision levels available for a subcontracted material, e.g. the BOM of this material has different versions depending on the validity date.
When a BOM explosion is carried out in the subcontracting order (either in the purchase request or in the purchase order) the selected version of the BOM is done accordingly to the delivery date. It does NOT take into account the revision level even when I change it manually.
Do you have any idea if it is possible to force SAP to consider the revision level instead of the delivery date for the BOM explosion ? (custo, user exit, BAdI, ...)
Many thanks
Amaury

Hi
BOM explosion in Subcon PO will be carried out automatically when you select the item category L.
If you want to control the BOM selection based on the Alternative then you can go with Production version option and get the help from PP consultant to create the production version.
Assign the production version in Subcontracting Inforecord.
Click the BOM explosion button the switch to alternative BOM during the PO creation.
Hope it helps

• Bom- Multiple Revision level

Hi,
How to create and maintain a BOM with mulitple revision level.
Thanks in Advance

Dear Madhan,
Do you mean to say you want alternative BOM's or else
simple BOM,that's at one moment or one fixed point it should
be having only one BOM ,with a revision level?
See for deleting or modiying the BOM with revision level you
need to use ECN - Engineering Change number.
So whenever you are using an ECN for modifying the
BOM,enter the revision level - in the field reason for change
while creating the Change number in CC01 or using change -
CC02.
So this is one way of handling this issue.
Please check & revert back if anymore help is needed.

• Revision level in BOM

Dear All,
I want to bring the column of the revision level in Bill of material display screen
Regards,

Going a little farther with this concept:
If I have a material planned through MRP and there are multiple revision levels for the item, will the reservation for the material reflect the revision level at the time the reservation was made or the revision level at the time the material is required?
For example, material A has a change record which creates a new revision level a month from today. Today, MRP creates a reservation for that item due for production in six weeks. Does MRP create RESB with the revision level as of today or as of the new change record? What does MRP use for the revision level determination date?

• Inspection Plan/Revision level

Hi PP Gurus,
I have a Problem in Inspection Lot.The system is not reading the new Inspection Plan.
The material is assigned to a Revision level with valid from date 10.12.2007 and the earlier Inspection Plan(Group 21) was also created on 10.12.2007.Now this inspection Plan( Group 21) is deleted and New Inspection Plan(Group 100) is created with the Valid from date 10.04.2008.
I have created an Inspection Lot dated 12.04.2008, Now the system is not reading the new Inspection Plan(Group 100).And the system is giving error "No Insection Plan found" while recording result on the inspection lot.
We cant change the material ECO revision date as this would contravene our traceability record and since, the Revision Level is maintained at Global level so cant afford this to change for other Plants.
Kindly help me to assign the new Inspection Plan to the Inspection Lot.
Thx in Advance

Hi,
I do not know the impact of revısıon level on İnspaction lot.
But, with reference to the Revısıon Level only the Confırmation wıll work both in Descrete and aswell as in REM.
Say ıf yor Revesıon Level ıs AB, and the date ıs 01.03.2008, then during confirmatıon the sytem will explode the BOM with referenec to this Date.
It may be possıble that there may not be any BOM available on that date then there wıll not be any Components suggested for GI or backflush.
Probably you can corelate the same thıng to your ınspectıon lot... ( inspectıon lot not available etc..)
Hope thıs helps..

• Bom Revision Changes with Same Day

I have and issue when BOM items are changed using ECR control within the same day. ECR 5xxx001 is used to change item 0010 from part SKY123-A to SKY123-B. Later that same day, ECR 5xxx002 is used to change item 0010 from part SKY123-B to SKY123-C. When displaying BOM after ECR 5xxx002 change has been complete, I am unable to see all the changes. I typically only see the change from SKY123-A to SKY123-C. Has anyone ever seen this issue before? I suspect the issue is because table STAS and STPO allow for change on date only, without time stamp.

Hi
My further investigation has confirmed, BOM changes with ECR/Revision completed within the same working day cannot be separated in CS03 (display BOM) by date / time. For example, If you change something with ECN1 then you will see this
changes valid also with ECN2 (same valid from date), because the changes are valid exactly from the same day.
Entering the revision level in CS03/CS14 does not mean to have a different version of the BOM, but forcing the system to take the valid from date of the corresponding ECN.
So to sum up: for one date there can be only one version of the BOM.
Thank you everyone for you responses to the string, you have all been extremely helpful.

• Revision level in CS61

Hi PP Gurus,
I have brought revision level in t-code CS01, CS02 initial screen by setting IMG. but same does not getting incoporated in order BOm t-code CS61, CS62. What shall have to do with IMG setting.
Can I add or change column inside BOM in t-code CS61, CS62. (I want to bring revision level column beside change number column).
Could you please guide me to come out of this problem.
Regards,
Maddy

If u have created proper change no in cc01with assigned object material with proper validity period-> u can give revision level to material...
Once rev. level is there in material...
Creat PO..-> check in item detailsmaterial data tab for revision field..

• Make Revision Level Case Sensitive

Hi,
I am creating a new revision level for a material under a change number. Under that same change number I am changing the BOM and routing for the new revision level of the material. We use the drawing number of the material as the Material Number. If client does some changes in the drawing they capture it as the "Alteration Index" (we have mapped it as Revision Level in SAP). Now the requirement from client is that we should have Revision Level as case sensitive i.e. A" and "a" should be treated as different entities. How can this be mapped in SAP as in the system the revision level is not case sensitive?
Any ideas please?

Let me add some more information, so that someone may find this thread interesting to reply :). My client is using alteration index (Revision Level in SAP) as both capital and small letters i.e. revision level is case sensitive for them. I cannot map their Revision Level in SAP as they will have two Revision Levels "A" and "a" as a different entity, but SAP will take both as one. I discussed this with my ABAPer and I got some pointers:
1) We can copy the revision level field, make a Z-field and make it as case sensitive. But this way we will have huge task to point to this new field where ever Revision Level field is referenced.
2)We can make this field itself as case sensitive i.e. make this SAP standard field as case sensitive.
I think that we can go with the second option, but do not know if it can cause any serious implication.
Can someone advice please?

• ECO number with revision level and release key

Hi All,
I have a requirement from client with regards to Engineering change manangement.
The scenario is that we are maintaining BOM for materials.Whenever a change is required for BOM a ECO number is created with release key.
Once the BOM is changed against ECO number is created a workflow is triggered for approval.
Then it goes through a series of approvals in the heirarchy. In each level the reviewer will propose a new value for the changed line item.
All these changes have to be maintained in record. At the end the final approver reviews all the proposed changes and release the ECO number with the appropriate change.
I had a thought of implementing the above scenario with ECO with revision level and release key.
But I am unable to replicate the scenario due the fact that, when I select the ECO number with release key,I cannot select the material in Object type.
Its disabled. Its available when I create a ECR with release key.
Please suggest a way to create ECO number with release key and revision level for BOM.
Regards
Richie

Hi,
You create the revision level against the material (via MM02, basic data tab)) not against the serial. The serial number, by definition, would be unique to the combination of material and revision.

Hello Rahul ,
Please see the following link for more information regarding the Revision Level in Material Master.
http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/ff/5160a249d811d182b80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
A revision level identifies a specific change status of a material with reference to a change number. It is used, for example, to identify changes affecting other areas such as Production.
You generally assign a revision level when processing a material BOM (bill of material created with reference to a material master record). However, you can also assign a revision level when processing a material master record.
You can display a revision level assigned to a material by choosing Display revision level on a departmental data screen in a material master record.
I hope this information has been helpful for you.

• Manual Change Revision Level in Production Order

Dear guru ,
The revision level in the production order (for material to be produced and for the component) isn't manual changeable.
Does exist a chance for a manual change of revision level ?
Thanks in advance.

Dear Suresh ,
i know the link with ECM. In production order i can change the component revision level if i work with bom explosion date in read PP master data. But this solution isn't flexible. Imagine that i want to read PP master data with different explosion date for different component ...
Why in the purchase order the system allow a manual change of revision level and this chance doesn't exist in production order ?
Thanks in advance.
