Bonjour 1.0.5

Whenever Apple's check for updates runs I get the message that a new version of Bonjour (1.0.5) is available. I install but it next time I get the same message. Anyone any idea what is happening?

Now I've located the file 'Bonjour.msi' and I've tried to point out it's location (C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\Bonjour.msi) but the installer says, that this is not a valid installation-package for Bonjour.
It tells me to choose Bonjour.msi in a valid location, but as far as I can see, this is the Bonjour.msi that the Apple Software Updater-app downloaded itself!
BTW, I have tried installing with anti-virus software turned off, just to make sure, it isn't the spyware/adware security, that prevents installation.

  • Windows Vista Bonjour error "You do not have sufficient access..."

My Windows Vista laptop recognizes my HP PSC 1310 printer connected as a USB printer with Airport Extreme. It even has the correct driver. When i go to finish set up i get an error "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I am doing this as an admin on my PC. The printer works correctly on my Macbook. The guidance given by apple is no help at all. Any ideas?

I experienced the same general problem and did find a manual workaround in my particular instance. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who's facing the same situation.
MY SETUP: installing a hp LaserJet 1012 that's tethered to a wireless Time Capsule (home network) on a virtual VISTA platform running within Parallels 4.0.3810 on an iMac OS 10.5.6.
THE PROBLEM: WinXP (also virtual) connected to the printer through BONJOUR FOR WINDOWS without any problems. However, doing the same in Vista resulted in a last step termination of installation with the following message from Vista: "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer." Lovely.
Turns out, according to Microsoft (link: support.microsoft.com/kb/946394/en-us Help and Support Article ID: 946394 - Last Review: January 24, 2008), the problems is due to "the Hewlett-Packard (HP) print driver uses an HPBmini.dll file ("HP Mini Installer") whose version is earlier than 1.0.0.13."
My workaround was to simply install the network printer manually via ~ (the following are the choices that I clicked on in VISTA)
Vista Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Printers > Add a printer >
Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer >
The printer that I want isn't listed >
Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname >
    CHOOSE - Device type: Autodetect
INPUT - Hostname or IP address: "Time-Capsule"
(which is the specific hostname in my case, the hostname can be found by going to OS X System Preference > Print & Fax > click & highlight the printer installed on the local network in OS X and look for the hostname after "Location:". Remember, Windows do not do spaces, so if there are any spaces in your hostname be sure to substitute a dash "-".
SELECT - "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" >
Device Type > Standard | Generic Network Card > Install the printer driver* >
(*Here's the tricky step, since you don't want to use an old driver which would bring up that old insufficient access message, but you do have some options:
    a) you have a known VISTA COMPATIBLE driver from the manufacturer (net downld);
    b) the "Add Printer Wizard" window may contain a driver for your specific printer or a similar printer. Also, try the "Windows Update" button to refresh the choices if you can't find it the first time; and finally,
c)"Generic" is a legitimate choice in the Manufacturer window if you can't find any better options.)
From there, it's just Next > Next > and choose to share printer, etc. to finish up.
Luckily, I got through to "Print a test page" and it all works without the annoying "insufficient access" message.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Switched networks, then back and now bonjour no longer works

I was testing my neighbors network then i switched back and now my 2 PCs can no longer connect to the printer through bonjour. I ran the bonjour printer utility and it sees the printer on both, but then as it is connecting it says "you do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer" ive tried everything i can think of, i cant get it to wok on either network, and it used to work on mine. Each time it sees it there but gives the same error. I even tried changing the network name and doing it all over agian like the first day i connected them. I can see my shared folders and access files both form the PCs and the Mac. Its only the printers. HELP!!!

    Hi abstractls,
You may be having the same problem as me. If the Airport Express is NOT connected to the internet, the Macs will still work, but the PC print routines say "you do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer" or just "An unknown error occurred during printing". If you reconnect the internet, the problem goes away.
I suspect that the PC is not getting an IP address assigned to it by the Airport Express, and cannot cope without it, but the Mac is OK.
My problem is that I do not want to connect the Airport Express to the net, I just want it to share a printer between Macs and PC. Does anyone know of a fix for that problem? I have told the Airport Express to ignore the lack of an internet connection, but that just switches off the amber light...

  • Bonjour + Fast User switching = messages going to the wrong (inactive) user

We use iChat for Bonjour in our office– fast file transfers etc.
If a user is one of 2 or more logged in on a machine– through the use of fast user switching, we've noticed that incoming messages (initiated by another user on the network) will often go to the switched user (i.e. the inactive user) not the user we're currently logged in as.
We've been able to repeat the issue.
    1. Log in as user 1, fast user switch to user 2 (leaving user 1 logged in but inactive)
    2. Go to new machine, log in as user 3
    3. Send message from user 3 to user 2
    4. Look at user 2 screen. No messages
    5. Send message from user 2 to user 3. User 3 will receive message, and will be able to send message successfully back to user 2.
    6. Log out use 2
    7. Log in as user 1
    8. Notice all the messages that were going to the 'inactive' user profile.
Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?

    HI MAtthew,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
I have not seen this (I only have one Mac).
However there is an item in IChat Preferences > General section that can set the staus of the Users account to Offline or Away when using Fast User Switching.
What is yur set to and does it make any difference when changing it ?
Away in normal circumstance menas someone can still Invite you to chats (or Text you)

  • Can print to shared Canon iP4300 via Bonjour - but not with Canon driver

I've searched the forums and therefore know roughly what the problem is, but still need some concrete info please...
Have finally managed to share my Canon iP4300 connected to iMac (10.5.2) via USB and print to it from XP, using Bonjour for Windows. However... when I run the printer assisntent it finds the printer but only offers me the choice of a generic driver. The driver turns out to be labelled "HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS". A postscript driver?!? Well, it works, but I'd really prefer the proper Canon driver (which is already installed - I previously had the printer connected to the PC).
Yet, when I select this driver retrospectively (from the printer-share properties dialogue), I cant print. This, if I understand correctly is because the Canon driver doesn't support Bonjour?
So is there anything I can do? Eg. I've read about the Gimp drivers, but they're only for OSX right?
Maybe this generic "HP" driver will be adequate (haven't printed anything properly yet) but would like to know if anybody has suggestions other than contacting Canon (which I will do anyway).
    Cheers

I Have the same Problem as you,
I Have the Canon MP180, and i have the driver on my windows XP Laptop
But when i try to connect to it, using Bonjour (as the printer is connected to the mac) it uses a HP Color LaserJet 4550 PS driver even though its Canon
Does anyone know how to use the proper driver.
It works ok using the HP Driver, but the quality of the printouts from the windows XP laptop seem rubbish
    Many Thanks
    Alex
P.S if you got this working, can you send me a message back.

  • Bonjour printing to HP AIO printer

While trying to get a pair of HP 3180 printers working, I found that I had to install DIFFERENT drivers for the one that was directly connected and one that was connected via Bonjour. If I used the wrong driver, I would get a 9672 error.
I am also trying to connect an HP PSC 1210xi on another network and I figured that the same problem would exist. I have the v4.3 AIO drivers working for the direct connect configuration but the print only drivers are not recognized over Bonjour, I get the 9672 error message.
Anybody got any words of wisdom?
    - gws

Wish I had a solution but I am having the same problem with an officejet 4225.
same error message. Funny thing is I have a crappy old dell that connects seamlessly over airport/bonjour to the printer but my new macbook pro won't print unless directly connected. love an answer to that?

  • Can see but not browse to Airport disk, also cannot print in Bonjour

I suspect this may be related to a firewall issue or perhaps the way my corporate PC is set up (logged into Domain with VPN to Internet. What else might cause:
Windows Exporer to hang and crash when I try to browse to Airport Disk which is clearly visible in WE
nability to print, Bonjour or otherwise tothe USB attached printer in Airport. Macs work just fine
    Thanks in advance

    Hi wrkeen,
Please share more details about this issue:
    1. Provide the error messages for better analyzation.
    2. What solution have you done to test the homegroup?
If we enable the network discovery, we will be able to find other computers or devices on the network.
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Run the network troubleshooter to exclude the network issues. For more information, please refer to the following article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-windows-7
    2. Go through this path Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings and check if we correctly configure file sharing and other settings.
Please take a look at the following article about troubleshooting file sharing.

  • Jabber and Bonjour windows won't open

My jabber and bonjour windows have stopped opening. They used to work. One day I closed them and can't get them open again. Any help out there?

    Hi,
    Summary of the last.
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts the items should be marked as Use the Account
This will log it in but will not guarantee display of the Account's Buddy List as you can Hide it as I described before.
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts the list is drag-able so that they can be in any order you want.
This effects the order they display in iChat's Window menu and the Keystrokes Used. If you have them as AIM, Bonjour then Jabber - the Keystrokes will be Apple (⌘) key and 1 for AIM, then Apple (⌘) and 2 for Bonjour and the Jabber one is then Apple(⌘) and 3 (Keys are used together at the same time)
It also effect the order the accounts display in iChat menu > Accounts.
Clicking this red button will hide that particular Buddy List
This is My iChat Window Menu.
It show three accounts logged in.
These menu Options do not mean the Buddy List is visible.
As I have iChat 4, the order is as I set them in iChat > Preferences > Accounts as the list here can have one item dragged above or below another.
As I have two names that work with the AIM servers the AM valid names shows as the Account name rather than saying "AIM Account"
IF you highlight the Buddy List Name as I have done in this pic you can Hide or Reveal the Buddy List (Alternate action). Using the red button highlighted in the first pic hides the Buddy List)
You will notice the Keystrokes to use at the end of the line.
I am not sure where you mean you are clicking on a Red button in your last paragraph - unless you mean you are clicking on the iChat icon in the DOCK when it displays a red blob with a number to say how many text messages you have not read there are.
It is possible to have a chat with a Buddy from a List that is Hidden and clicking the iChat icon should bring the Chat window to the Front rather than make the Buddy List appear.
Unfortunately I do not have a Buddy free at the moment I write this to check the variants.

  • I have a problem with my computer recognizing my new iphone when i uninstall itunes and reinstall it does not download properly and bonjour will not load any ideas of what to do

I have a dell lap top with windows 7 that won't recognize my iphone 5c. The driver's will not install with out a problem, I talked to apple support to try to fix this problem, I unistalled itunes and reinstalled it, now itunes did not download properly, bonjour does not load and i can not burn cds, I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with the same problem. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

  • Bonjour services disappear - can't see speakers in iTunes

    Hi,
I guess this might not be the correct forum but I can't seem to find anywhere else it may sit. I am having issues with certain bonjour services not running on my iMac, this is mainly affecting speakers being shown in iTunes. I don't have a problem with my mac book on the same network, I wonder if anyone can advise what I can do.
    Thanks

I run a studio where there are 3 Macs, each one running a different version of Mac OS X (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) and only my Mac (Snow Leopard) can see printers, iTunes servers or speakers connected over Bonjour (both the printer and speakers are connected with an Airport Express)...

  • ITunes 10.4 64 Bit on Windows 7 - refuses to see devices or bonjour

Decided to post on the support communities after exhausting pretty much every suggestion found during multiple scours of the Internet and support forums and wasting many hours into the bargain.
I recently upgraded to a new PC running 64bit Windows 7 (Ultimate) and installed iTunes (64 bit).
    Symptoms:
Everything starts with no errors but nothing talks!
iTunes, Mobile Device Service, iPod Service, Bonjour - they all start up without a problem.
iTunes doesn't see my iPhones, the Apple TV or my Airport Express.
iTunes won't allow sharing because it says Bonjour is disabled and I should re-enable it.  Not only is bonjour enabled but it's running and listening on the appropriate network ports.  Monitoring iTunes during startup shows it trying to initiate on the bonjour port but with no effect.
I've tried multiple removals and reinstalls and nothing changes.
I've also tried removing anti-virus, anti-malware, disabling firewalls, disabling UAC, running iTunes under an admin account and even multiple attempts at compatibility mode.
Earlier today I started a virtual machine (Windows XP SP3) on Windows 7 and installed iTunes - right after the install it saw the iPhone without any problem and it can see the VM version of bonjour.  To me, this shows that the USB side of the PC is working just fine and fingers started pointing right at iTunes.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
At the moment I'm looking at just running iTunes in the XP VM since I know that works.
    Patrick

    A bizarre update.
Decided to use the XP VM to handle the iPhone and it was downloading the latest update when it failed.
At that point Windows 7 iTunes popped up to say it had found an iPhone in recovery mode.  I let it try a restore which also failed (VM couldn't complete the restore either).
Plugged the iPhone back in to my old PC to complete recovery and restore and then plugged it back in to the Windows 7 PC - which now can't see the iPhone!!
So it detected it when in recovery mode but not when it was functioning normally.
Are older versions of iTunes available to allow the backout of 10.4 which just seems so flaky on 64 bit Windows 7?

  • I am trying to install the new version of itunes but bonjour won't let me and I can't uninstall it for some reason

I bought an ipod for my mother for mothers day and when I went to put music on it, I had to update my itunes to do so. when I did, bonjour cme up with an error message and wanted me to find the path "bonjour.msi". I've tried uninstalling bonjour with no success. I've tried uninstalling itunes then re-installing itunes with no success. Is there anything I can do to fix this, because it's really getting on my nerves that I can't install a simple update without this message comming up. I've searched the net for ways to fix this, and none have worked. so any help would be great. Thanks.

when I went to put music on it, I had to update my itunes to do so. when I did, bonjour cme up with an error message and wanted me to find the path "bonjour.msi".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Older versions of Apple Updater and Bonjour can not be deleted

I sent back my 1st Gen. Nano on recall. I then tried to sync the new 6th Gen. Nano to my iTunes 9.0. iTunes said I had to upgrade to iTunes 10.... When I tried to upgrade I got a message saying older versions of Apple updater and Bonjour could not be deleted. Also said something about Apple Software msi.dll not found.
Going through the online Apple support procedures I was told to delete iTunes, which I did. It is now gone although I think it is in "My Music" but I don't know how to get it back to where it was.
I called support and talked to a Asian Lady who spoke poor English and talked VERY fast. As I am 76 and hard of hear, which I told her at the begining, it was hard to talk with her. She told me I had no warrantee service available to me. I told her that the replacement Nano had a 90 day warrantee, which it does. I told her I felt if Apple was providing me with a replacement that required software updates to function in iTunes then their software to download the latest iTunes should contain whatever it needs to do so. SHE HUNGUP on me!!!!!!
Now my question to you folks, how do I retrieve iTunes from the "My Music" location?
And how do I do/get whatever I need to upgrade iTunes?
Please speck like you are talking to an idiot as I am pretty dense on this.
I did follow Apples on line procedures and this is the mess I'm in.
    Many thanks, Bill

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

  • Bonjour Printing and Internet Sharing battle.

I use my MBP as a wireless router in my dorm room, so I have internet sharing on from ethernet to wifi. I also have a printer connected to it. My roommate uses my printer, so to make things a lot easier, I turned on printer sharing, and he downloaded Bonjour for his (pitiful) Windows computer. However, when he uses bonjour to print over the wireless network, internet sharing blows up and my iPod can connect to the wireless network, but is unable to connect to the internets. This is resolved by turning printer sharing off and restarting internet sharing. However that is a (comparatively) giant hassle and I would prefer my mac to work as perfectly as it should.
    Help?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions,  then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
(Then Trash the original of this one, as "moving" it only copies it.)
    Then reboot once more.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
EDIT: added a couple of things.

  • Bonjour won't print to my Airport Express from my Win XP pc

I loaded Bonjour onto my Windows XP pc. The load went fine -- no error messages. I ran the 'add printer' routine, it found my HP 1210xi (which is connected to my Airport Express by USB) and showed a driver in the selection list to add. I added the printer. The setup looks fine. When I try to print a test page nothing happens, it finally errors out in Windows saying there was a problem printint the document. It also creates a mess that requires stopping/restarting Windows spooler to clean out the old print job.
I had previously loaded Bonjour onto this PC and printed just fine.
I am running XP SP2 with Windows Firewall. I tried with the firewall turned off and get the same problem. I can ping the Airport Express from the PC.
I have other Mac & Windows PCs running on this network and this is the only PC with this problem, but I do remember having the problem with a Dell about a year ago.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I wanted to put as much data in this post as possible.

Try plugging your computer directly to the HP printer via USB and installing printer. Then disconnect and try Bobjour again. It worked for me. Although you may need to reinstall Bonjour again.

  • Bonjour won't print to ethernet windows 7

Bonjour is a very exasperating piece of stuff.  I am trying to get a printer attached to a Mac to print a document from Windows 7.
    Bonjour installs properly, I think.
The Windows machine (connected by ethernet, not wirelessly) sees the printer on the Mac.  The Firewall is turned off.
The print instruction is sent, the print job goes off ...  and probably lands on the Moon.  No print results come out of the printer.
Directions would be most welcome; this should not be rocket science!

A follow up comment, in case somebody has similar complaints.  I have established full printer sharing with my PCs, so my nasty remarks about Bonjour were inappropriate.  There were some steps that I had to follow to get things working:
    1) on the iMac, confirm that the printer has the most current drivers.  I had relied on the Mac updates and while the driver printed fine on my Mac, it was a couple of service numbers behind what was available on the Canon site.  So make sure the drivers are current.
    2) On the PC, uninstall and re-boot.  Re-install.  Make sure the operation completes fully.  I think my error was in being impatient.
    3) Select the printer you want to use from the Bonjour software before calling the print job.  This may seem obvious, but the instructions don't speel this out as comprehensively as they might.  Following this step, then calling the printer, produced nice results.
