Bonjour For Windows not finding printers

Hi I don't know if I'm using Bonjour right so I thought I'd ask the experts (you guys!)
I have three printers connected to a desktop running Windows Vista.
I just got a Macbook Pro and would like to wirelessly print from my Macbook to the printers connected to Vista.
The guy at the Apple store said Bonjour For Windows would help me do this but when I go into the wizard, it says there are no Bonjour printers.
How do I make my three printers "Bonjour printers" so I can print to them from my Macbook?
Thanks!

I think you would have to have the printers hung from the USB port (or several ports with a powered hub) hanging off a Time Capsule, or the Airport Express routers. Then, they can be shared between PC and Mac.
You say the printers are connected via USB to the Win box? Can you set up printer sharing on the Win side and then maybe they will be seen by Bonjour. (But you will have to leave your PC on to print to them)
Or, if any of them have network interfaces, connect them to a switch and print from Mac and PC via your local network.

  • Bonjour for Mac Not Recognizing Printers

I am using a NETGEAR router and a NETGEAR Wireless Extender. I have repeatedly tried to set up two printers wirelessly. Bonjour seems to work very sporadically. It will recognize the printers for a while, then after about an hour or so, they are not listed under Bonjour. Very frustrating, and I'd appreciate any help.

Is it just an extender, or is it a full router?
One way to tell is if it has the ability to provide DHCP services, such as assigning IP addresses.  If it has a configuration option for setting up DHCP, then it is capable of being a router.  If it is in Router mode it will block Bonjour traffic between devices talking to the other Router and those talking to this router.
You want just one active router in your home, and that one active router is responsible for DHCP services.
Another way, would be to make sure you are talking to the extender, and then using the Bonjour Browser.  If you can see items that are connected to the other Netgear device, then the extender is not blocking Bonjour traffic, and if it is not blocking Bonjour traffic, it cannot be in Router mode.
If you Option-Click on the WiFi icon on your Mac menu bar, you will see the BSSID for the WiFi device you are talking to.  Since you have 2 WiFi devices they will each have their own unique BSSID numbers.  With some experimentation, you should be able to figure out which BSSID belongs to the Netgear Router and which belongs to the extender.  That is one way to know which device you are currently talking to and then verify you are seeing Bonjour traffic from devices attached to the Netgear router.  And traffic going the other way.

  • Printer shared from my Mac is not seen from a PC using Bonjour for Windows

I am going nuts here, hope someone can help.
I have a Canon multi-function printer (MP830) attached via USB to a Mac G4 (with Mac OS X Tiger). At one time, I had it set so a Windows 2000 PC could print to it but deinstalled it after some printing issues, and have been unable to get to working again. The machines are connected together via a Netgear router. As far as I know, everything is the same as it was before, yet I cannot get it to work as it did.
    - The printer works fine from the Mac.
    - If I connect the printer to the PC, it works fine.
    - On the PC, using Bonjour for Windows, I cannot see the printer attached to the Mac but I can see, and print to, an Epson printer that is attached to a different Mac.
    - And from the second Mac, I am able to see -- but not successfully print to -- the Canon printer. The print job stays in the queue of the second Mac and says "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry... Error: Connection failed with error."
    - I have tried:
-- de-installing and re-installing Bonjour for Windows and the Canon print drivers on the PC
-- and have de-installed and re-installed the Canon drivers on the Mac
-- I have removed and re-added the Canon printer on the Mac. Printer Sharing is on, and this printer is checked in the Sharing box.
    Any suggestions?
G4 Quicksilver and Dell PC with Windows 2000   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Canon MP830

Thank you. Those are beautifully written procedures.
Looks like it's a network issue. I reach the step, "Adding a printer using the wizard":
You must enter the following URL, you must use the Queue Name you noted down earlier
    http://<IP address of Mac>:631/printers/Queue Name
    which I do, entering
    http://192.168.0.4:631/printers/MP830
and I get the following error:
"Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server."
    And then I am toast!
Using the other procedure, I simply don't see the Mac's printers in the Bonjour Wizard's "Browse for Bonjour Printers" window.
Not sure where to go from here -- any ideas?
The Mac's IP (set via DHCP) is 192.168.0.4, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The PC is 192.168.0.5, I can't find the subnet mask.
Pretty sure it's a network config issue, especially isnce I can Bonjour to my other Mac.
    TIA...

  • USB Printers and Bonjour for Windows

    Hi
I have an Epson Photo RX500 printer scanner attached via USB to my eMac. I am planning to upgrade to Tiger (OS X 10.4.4) and would like to use Bonjour to allow PCs on my home LAN access the printer.
My question is "Is the RX500 compatible with Bonjours or can only certain printers by used, and if so whgere can I find out which printers are Bonjour enabled?"
    Many thanks
    Mick
    eMAc   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Installing Bonjour for Windows on your PCs will allow them to discover the Epson Printer but not in the way you think.
The Epson Photo RX500 does not have direct support for Bonjour (Zeroconf), only network printers can be configured to support it.
In your case, upgrading to Tiger (10.4.x) and attaching the printer to that Mac and turning on printer sharing will allow the PCs to discover the printer connected to the Mac.
Make sure you install the drivers for the printer on the PCs, if they don't already come with them, so the PCs know the features available in the printer.

  • Bonjour for windows gives this error - You do not have sufficient access...

I installed Bonjour for windows on a PC running XP. When I run the Bonjour app from windows I can see the printer I wish to connect to. It is shared off of my G3 server. When I try to connect I get the following error,
"You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer"
I have done some research through Apple's info database and found,
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302408
I followed the instructions and still I get the same error. I have rebooted the PC deleted all the printers under the printer window. But no luck. I found a similar request by another apple forum user. His issue was the same but he was using 'Parallels' emulator. But no solution was provided.
    Any suggestions?

Well this is what I've done to date to try to resolve this issue.
I uninstalled Bonjour for Windows from my PC. I checked Apples support pages dealing with Bonjour for Windows (BfW). As suggested I deleted all printers in my printer window, (to delete all possible print Queues). I updated my Windows to the latest patch for XP. I reinstalled BfW, with the XP Firewall turned on. It is suggested that BfW will make the necessary changes to the XP firewall to allow traffic going through port 5353. I have tried more than one printer off of my G3 and I double checked my external router port restrictions, and I turned off the firewall on my G3, shared mt printers in OS X, and even turned on windows file sharing. I even updated my G3 to 10.4.8
I pinged my G3 from my XP machine it's there. Also I can see the G3 with it's printers when I browse the network from the XP box. Also I'm on the same local subnet 192.168.2.x
The only thing I have not done yet is see if it is possible to ping a bonjour host (my G3) from a bonjour client (XP box). That would at least verifiy the 5353ports.
Anyone have a bonjour utility to do that? Probably have to run in a Windows enviroment. Or can a ping packet be directed to use a particular port?

  • Bonjour for windows: "The printer you have selected is no longer available"

Whenever I go to try and set up sharing my imacs printer with wifes windows computer, the bonjour for windows app at first sees my two printers, but as I select them I then get a message stating that "the bonjour printer you have selected is no longer available. Please make sure the printer is powered on and plugged in." It of course is on, powered and plugged in, and receives print jobs from my mac. I have also configured printer sharing in OS X 10.6 to allow for "everyone" to print. Don't get any firewall messages either.
Same problem happens for me when I am trying to connect from windows running under Parallels on my ibook.
Has anyone run across this problem and can offer guidance? I'm running out of hair to pull out!
    Thanks in advance,
"I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC... and we're trying to play nicely together." (mumble-mumble-grumble...)

Problem solved!! Somehow. After being in try everything and anything mode (remove/add printer, update drivers (again), shut down/restart, etc), I think I solved the problem my changing sharing permissions. I still couldn't print though. Kept getting the "printer cannot be contacted over the network" error message. After much searching and reading things I didn't really understand, I noticed I kept running across this statement that Windows 7 does not play well with DHCP and the printer should be assigned a static IP address. I found this forum item that tells simply how to do that: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1725525. The big thing was that it had me add the printer as a local printer where I had been trying to add it as a network printer. I never would have thought to do that. Then you put in the Airport address and that's it. It worked!
This whole thing made it very clear why I moved from Windows to Mac. I should never have had to spend a whole day trying to get a network printer to print. Good luck to everyone having this issue.

    Hola:

What model and firmware is the 2TB TC?
    What firmware is the AE?
Does the AE get good signal from the TC in its current location?
Signal can only be extended that is received intact.
Is it extending on 5ghz? As I remember it a Gen2 AE is only single band, although you can choose either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I am fairly sure you are going to tell me your TC is AC model..
I would do a couple of things..
    1. Fix the wireless name, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    2. Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz so it is not going to jump around.
    3. Get real results from the AE in its current location for signal strength.. this is really only possible on v5 utility. And that is a double pain with Mavericks because you cannot use it.
Apple have removed all the useful diagnostics from the airport utility. There is next to nothing left. So you need to use the computer and its diagnostics to find signal levels in the location.

  • HT2305 Is there a Bonjour for Windows 8?

I cannot seem to find Bonjour for Windows 8 and the previous version I downloaded does not appear to recognize my printer

    Hi,
I afraid you will not be able to use the scanner with Windows 8.1, it is not compatible with the OS.
Regarding VueScan, I afraid it would not be an option as well, the application only support your scanners if there are drivers for the OS:
If there isn't an HP scanner driver at www.hp.com for your operating system, then unfortunately VueScan won't work with this scanner.
You may try using the Vista drivers by running the drivers using the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter as listed below.. select Not Listed from the programs list and browse to the installation file for Vista:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03401961&lc=en#N63
The installation file for Vista can be downloaded below:

  • Bonjour for Windows download location

    Hello.
I would like to download Bonjour for Windows. The target machine is Windows XP.
When I follow the link http://www.apple.com/bonjour I get redirected to the Mac OS X product page. I have downloaded the small Bonjour package (ReadMe, DLL and .EXE) but would like to have the complete set of files, which creates the icon and wizard on the Program folders.
    Many thanks.

This is where I find standalone downloads
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/
To me it makes no sense to have url like that.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/apple/windows/ - makes more sense?
http://www.apple.com/downloads/windows/ - even better? but that would be too easy.
And yes, over the last 3-4 yrs the structure, knowledge base, how to find recent technical notes, the "disappearance" of or lack of new Developer Notes, and harder to search and find articles. There does seem to be a new structure and "notes" that look like.... HyperCard Notes! for tech notes.

  • HT2703 Bonjour for Windows - WHERE is it?

I need to reinstall Bonjour for Windows but can't find it anywhere (I see references to reinstall it, but no links or anything pointing me to where to find a link).  All I can find is Bonjour Print Services for Windows.  Any suggestions?

Uninstalling and then reinstalling iTunes should also reinstall Bonjour.
For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... or you could get it back via your Apple Software Update for Windows.
If you'd prefer not to uninstall iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the Bonjour.msi (or Bonjour64.msi) to do a standalone Bonjour install.

  • Bonjour for Windows no longer works after SP3 is installed

Bonjour for Windows was working fine until SP3 came out. Now I can see the printer and Bonjour goes through the motions to set it up, but I can't print to the printer.
The whole construct of "Printer.local" or "AirPortExpress.local" doesn't seem to work in a printer Port configuration any more.
I can ping the Printer.local or AirPortExpress.local in a command window, but the print spooler can't seem to send anything to the printer if the name.local construct is used in the port configuration.
If I replace the printer.local name in the port configuration with the IP address instead of the printer.local name, I can print fine. The only exception to this is printers hanging off of an AirPortExpress. I can't print to any printer that is attached to an Airport Express. Even if I setup a port to the IP address, I can't print to that printer.
Another user that had this problem uninstalled SP3, I'm contemplating that now.

I have Bonjour installed on my ThinkPad running WinXP. It can't see my LAN-connected HP printer. I don't even see an option to add a Bonjour printer.
( how do you add a Bonjour printer??
Nor can any of my Macs see the shared documents folder on the PC. They could before I upgraded to SP3. Sharing for that folder is turned on, of course
I removed the Bonjour component and reinstalled it. No diference.
I downloaded the latest Bonjour installer from Apple and installed that.
    Turned firewall off. No difference.
The Windows Component Manager shows that the Bonjour service is running. I stopped and restarted the service. No joy.
The Windows Event Viewer shows that the Bonjour service is logging informational error messages ID=1 from time to time.

  • Error (-45054) for WINDOWS not for a mac

For the past three days i have been trying to download app updates via the iTunes WINDOWS software program without success due to the error -45054. I have done many a search but can only find answers on how to fix the problem on mac computers. I am running windows 8 (yes i know it ***** you don't have to tell me)
There are a total of two users on the computer in question. However the error only occurs in the account of one of the two users. User #1 has no problems whatsoever and is a administrator. User #2, also listed as a administrator always gets the -45054 error.
Files are all set as shared with everyone with full control.
i have tried to remove iTunes and reinstall but still no help. Any suggestions are appreciated as long as they are for WINDOWS not for mac

I tried submitting this same problem as a feature request and/or bug report.
Unfortunately, and somewhat disconcertingly, the Captivate Bug Report form also doesn't work. No matter how thoroughly I entered my request, I got these error messages:

  • Bonjour for Windows -- What is it and do I want to update?

An Apple popup wants me to update my "Bonjour for Windows" installation, whatever that is. Do I want to do this?
I searched on the Apple web site and just get some obscure support documents that do not help me.

Bonjour is an IP-based service that allows a computer to automatically discover other devices on your network. A description of what it provides can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/BonjourforWindows
It's Apple's trade name for Zeroconf and for Windows users is mostly, though not exclusively, used by iTunes to discover other systems with iTunes Sharing turned on. I would suggest either updating or disabling/removing Bonjour on your system if you're sure you don't need it (other software may also be using it, for printer or server discovery).

  • Bonjour for Windows in Parallels stops printing in OSX

Since I installed Parallels a few weeks ago I had no need to print from Windows. Yesterday I had need so I installed the Apple Bonjour for Windows and the necessary print driver (Brother HL-1430) and was able to print from within Windows.
