Bonjour Printers?

All of a sudden in the Printer box of the print window, a drop down menu labeled Bonjour printers has appeared below the Shared Printers drop down menu. When I click on the Bonjour Printers item a printer labeled "Dell Laser Printer 1720dn" is listed. Is this some new setting/feature from Apple?
I only own 2 printers: an Epson Stylus 740 and an HP DeskJet 5150. The 740 is connected to the iMac via USB and the 5150 is connected to a G4 iMac via USB and is shared.
How do I delete the Bonjour Printers menu item?

It should only be seeing things on the same subnet, say if your Router is 192.168.1.1, then it should only be seeing other things in the range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255
Unless maybe your Subnet Mask isn't 255.255.255.0
I think this is related to some equipment problems my ISP was having over the weekend. They had to change out a radio that was causing problems in my area. (It was a brand-new upgraded one that malfunctioned out of the box).

  • No Bonjour printers available on Windows Vista Ultimate

    Hello,
This is my first go around with a Mac. I'm attempting print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.7) to a HP Photosmart C4680 printer that is on a wireless network through a Dell desktop PC that is running Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've installed Bonjour for Windows on the PC, the printer is shared, but when I use the Bonjour application it states that no Bonjour printers are available. Why is this? How do I change this?
I've also attempted to complete print sharing from the following guidance, but I'm running into a roadblock trying to find the printer on the network.
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/printsharevista.htm
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. I have a printer connected to an XP machine through USB and also a printer connected to a Vista machine through USB. I have a Mac wirelessly connected on my LAN. Even though all three computers are set up for file sharing and printer sharing, the Mac cannot see either of the Windows machines nor their respective printers. Apple has not been able to solve this seemingly simple problem. Hey, come on Apple and Microsoft, why can't you two get along??

  • Bonjour printers disappearing

I have a problem with a G-5 PPC which has had it's Bonjour printers disappear from the print menu and not appear in the Printer Setup Utility.
This problem followed the 4.11 update. It reappeared after a archive and reinstall, followed by update.
Anyone have any ideas. I have run out as Bonjour is not only setup free, it seems untouchable.
    Thanks

Did the attempt to add the printer failed, or did the log-on failed?. Just in case, (I think you did it right, anyway) you have to enter the account Short Name as stated in System Preferences, rather than the user Name, e.g for the user John Smith, enter the short name johnsmith rather than the user name John.
If you cannot add them thru the CUPS interface, I can suggest you to take a somewhat different course of action:
Open Terminal and type this command again:
    lookupd -flushcache (press Return)
then log out, and back in. If you can see the Bonjour printers briefly, and then they disappear again, then:
Reset the Printing System form the Printer Setup Utility (do not try to reinstall the printers yet), and then run some system utility to "clean" the system.
Personally, I prefer MainMenu, because I find it simpler to use, but you can also run Onyx, Cocktail, etc to achieve the same results.
In case you use MainMenu, in the Cleaning tab, clean all the users caches and do a deep clean of the system cache, verify the preference files, flush the lookupd cache (from the Other Taks tab), and restart. This boot up will last longer than usual.

  • Fantom Bonjour Printers

I am running OS X Server 10.4.8 with Print services. I deleted 2 printers but 10.4.x and 19.3.9 clients still see them listed under Bonjour/Rendezvous printers. How do you get rid of these fantom printers?

    Thanks for the reply.
Our user's problem was "fixed" when he arrived at work a day later and happened to look in the pirnter menu only to discover that the "Bonjour Printers" option had reappeared. He had made no configuration changes in the mean time.
I can confirm that he wasn't imagining things in either instance. In fact, we used Bonjour Browser when things were broken and again after they were "fixed". In the former case, only two or three Bonjour items were listed, while in the latter there were 13 local services, including the Print Spooler.
All our Macs get their IP configuration via DHCP, so it is possible that various network configuration changes were made without our intervention. Nonetheless, this is very odd behavior.

  • "Bonjour Printers" missing from  "Printer:" pull-down in Print dialog box

One of our users has recently lost the ability to add Bonjour printers. For example, if he presses Command-p to open the Print dialog box, then clicks on the arrows icon to produce the list of available printers, the "Bonjour Printers" option does not appear in the list. None of the others in our small group (six of us, all with identical 1.67Ghz G4 Powerbooks running identical OSX versions - 10.4.3 with all updates applied) have experienced this problem. The user in question reports seeing the expected Bonjour option in the recent past and claims to have installed noting more than the recommended OSX updates in the mean time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • How to fix single wireless printer showing up as several (bonjour) printers?

I have the following problem with a wireless printer/scanner connected using bonjour (Samsung SCX-3205W):
When using the device in wireless mode, after a period, the single printer shows up in the selection list as tens or even hundreds of seperate printers. Applications showing/selecting printers or scanners slow down dramatically and sometimes stop responding (beach ball rotating for long periods)
Below is an example of what is shown in e.g. printer selection lists (see also attachment):
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28060)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28061)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28062)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28063)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28064)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28065)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28066)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28067)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(28068)
    Samsung SCX 3200 Series (SamsungSCX3205)(xxxxx)
The device works fine using USB or ethernet connection but problems arise when using the wireless connection. After adding the printer using System Preferences / Print & Scan it seems to work fine, atleast for a while. After some time the printer seems to multiply itself in the printer lists (e.g. when adding new printer or using Preview or Image Capture to scan and choosing a network device.)
I'm using OS X 10.7.3 and have the latest drivers for the printer (Samsung SCX 3200 series 1.01.01)
Im connected to the printer through a wireless router/adsl-modem
The problem seems to start (i.e. printer starts to "multiply") after the printer goes into power save mode. (The power save function can't be turned off, only set to max 120min)
Anyone have similar problems with other wireless printers or any idea what might be causing this? Or how I could fix it?
    Best regards,
    JL

I haven't received any replies to the question I recently posted, but one work-around that HP suggested is to use different scanning software. Instead of Image Capture, I used the HP Scan.app that came with my all-in-one printer. I haven't seen those rectangles in my PDFs since switching.

  • Bonjour Printers appeared, and poof! disappeared from the list

    Hi Super-Genius Group!
I am trying to set up our new PowerBook 12" to print through an airport base station to printers attached to our iMac G4 which is currently hardwired to the base station, both machines running 10.4.5. I had little luck yesterday, not seeing any of the printers in the printer browser and trying all the various LPD, IPP, Appletalk, etc. browsers/connections. Finally today turning sharing on and off on the G4 triggered something and the three (! we collect a new cheap printer every time we buy a system) printers briefly appeared in the browser list on the Powerbook..... for about three seconds they were listed correctly with the address as '@bonjour' and then POOF they were gone. Any help? Thanks,
    Dan and Angela Worcester
PS Perhaps two other particulars will help. The network works well for any other kinds of sharing. - and - Before upgrading the iMac from 10.3.9 I did manage to print to a queue (I think it was a default queue) using this airport set-up.

OK, have you loaded the software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page?
If so and that did not work, look on your CD under the utils/ccc folder for an L3_uninstaller and run it.  Reboot and reload from the Support & Drivers link above.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Bonjour printers don't appear in Add Printer

I have 4 Intel macs on my home network. They all run the newest version of Snow Leopard. I've kept up to date on all updates. I believe my current problem may have occurred after the latest OS X update or perhaps after the new Safari update. But I'm not absolutely certain it was related to applying any updates.
The problem is that on one of my 4 macs I cannot add any printers. If I try to add a printer through the System Preferences ("Printing and Faxing") none of my three printers shows up on the list. On all three of my other computers all three of my printers show up as "bonjour printer" options.
After doing my usual set of "fixes"-- zapping the PRAM, running FSCK -FY, restarting all of the involved devices, I finally took the step of completely re-installing Snow Leopard and adding all of the updates. This did not fix the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    John

What happens if you start some type of sharing on the "problem" computer - iTunes Library sharing, File Sharing, or Screen Sharing - can the other 3 see what has been shared?

  • MBP doesn't see shared/Bonjour printers

My MBP (10.5.1) doesn't see any shared printer connected to a different machine. The only "shared" printer it will display is "Adobe PDF 8." My 3 other Macs (also 10.5.1) see, and print to, my shared printer, so I'm 100% sure the problem resides on the MBP.
I can do all other kinds of sharing on my MBP, i.e., screen sharing, remote login, etc. It just won't see other printers. I'm thinking maybe a printer port is blocked or something, but if it is I don't know how to unblock it. The drivers for the remote printers are installed on my MBP.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

    Harry,
Since I don't know what all you have tried, I don't know if you and I are seeing similar symptoms due to the same problem or not. I'm going to paste in the link to a thread that I started trying to solve a problem that I'm having. PAHU has been very helpful in making suggestions, and he has a recent one that I'll try when I get home this evening.

  • Windows XP and bonjour printers

    Hello
I want to use "Docs to Go" to transfer my files  from an XP Windows computer to my IPad 2

  • Bonjour For Windows not finding printers

Hi I don't know if I'm using Bonjour right so I thought I'd ask the experts (you guys!)
I have three printers connected to a desktop running Windows Vista.
I just got a Macbook Pro and would like to wirelessly print from my Macbook to the printers connected to Vista.
The guy at the Apple store said Bonjour For Windows would help me do this but when I go into the wizard, it says there are no Bonjour printers.
How do I make my three printers "Bonjour printers" so I can print to them from my Macbook?
    Thanks!

I think you would have to have the printers hung from the USB port (or several ports with a powered hub) hanging off a Time Capsule, or the Airport Express routers. Then, they can be shared between PC and Mac.
You say the printers are connected via USB to the Win box? Can you set up printer sharing on the Win side and then maybe they will be seen by Bonjour. (But you will have to leave your PC on to print to them)
Or, if any of them have network interfaces, connect them to a switch and print from Mac and PC via your local network.

  • How Do I add Bonjour printer to groups of Macs

I have a few HP 2600n (running with bonjour over network) I want to add all of these to 40 iMacs in one hit, I cannot do this via Server admin can I? If not then is it possible to send out a command to add the printer with its designated name to all the iMacs?
    Thanks in Advance..

Workgroup Manager in 10.4 and later allows you to manage which Printers are allowed under
    Preferences > Printing.
The pane opens with a list of all the printers installed on the Mac you are using, and allows you to open Print Utility and look for more. You can manage these printers by Computer List, by group, or by individual user (or ad-hoc clumps of users). But these Preferences would have to be blended with your existing Printer Preferences management.
Because you said these are Bonjour Printers, they are visible on the network. Sharing a printer attached to a single Mac may require a few more steps.

  • Bonjour printing broken on one computer

I have a small LAN, partly wired, partly wireless. Up until today, all of the computers (both Macs and PCs, wireless and wired) could print fine to both Bonjour printers (one wired, one shared through an AEBS).
Now, one of the computers (dual 2.0 G5), connected via ethernet, won't print via Bonjour: it insists that the printers have "jobs stopped", and restarting jobs just cycles back into "jobs stopped".
I can print to both printers on this machine if I enter their IP addresses, but it bothers me that Bonjour is busted. I've tried Printer Setup Repair, to no avail: anytime I add either of the Bonjour printers, the same thing happens.
    Any advice?

Delete printer, then add it back. Restart the computer.

  • Share printers over WAN

    Hello,
I'm in the process of testing the print sharing over WAN capabilities of my TC 1GB. I believe everything is setup properly, and using 'back to my mac' I can indeed see the TC while tethered to my iPhone... though I'm not sure if 'back to my mac' has anything to do with sharing printers over WAN.
    Overview:
TC > Printers > Shared Name (printer is showing up nicely and can print via LAN without issue)
TC > Printers > Share printers over WAN (checked)
TC > Printers > Share printers over internet using Bonjour (checked) (this prompted me to create a dynamic global host name)
TC > AirPort > Time Capsule > edit... > "Use dynamic global host name" (checked) (and all related info)
    *Network Setup:*
Cable Modem > TC > wired and wireless clients
When I use my iPhone tethered to my mac book pro, I do see the TC, but when I open the system preferences > printer & fax > I don't see any bonjour printers (should I be able to see it here?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
