Bonjour problem!

Ok, I've tried numerous times over the past month or two to install itunes 10.0.1, each time in the vain hope that my problem will disappear, but unfortunately it hasn't!
Each time I have tried to install it, a box has appeared during the installation of both Itunes and Quicktime, saying:
Windows Installer
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Bonjour.msi@ in the box below.
I did a search on my computer and found two files matching this name. However, whichever I tried to use, the message came up again. I have tried deleting various bits of Bonjour on my computer in the hope that I could reinstall and start over, but it came up with the same message when I tried to uninstall Bonjour through the Control Panel. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do now, so if anyone could help, that would be really greatly appreciated!

These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • ITunes 10.4 Update: Bonjour Problems

(Just as an aside, I have never experienced problems of this manner, and installation of new updates was always simple & easy)
Whenever I attempt to update iTunes+Quicktime, I seem to encounter the same baffling problem: I am not able to provide a route to the Bonjour.msi file.
I have found the Bonjour.msi file, and have offered a correct route for it to the Apple Update Installer. It just rejects it again and again, either saying that the 'file could not be found' (even though the file is obviously there), or that the file ' is not a correct destination' to install Bonjour to. I feel that I have to gone to my limit in trying to find out what is wrong here, and subsequently am asking the community for assistance. With the iOS 5 update on the horizon, I need iTunes to be ready to accept it.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Itunes/bonjour problem

I have not been able to update my itunes software for some time now. I have put off trying to fix it because I have been busy lately and decided to fix it today. I went to install the updates for itunes and it told me that the older version of banjour couldn't be removed. So I opened up the control pannel and tried to mannually remove it. But it pops up with an error message saying that the feature you are trying use is located on a different network and it will not let me remove it. I was going to try to remove itunes and start that from scratch as well and the same message occurs. I can get into itune, listen to music and basically use all the features but I can not update the software. I had read a post with the same problem as I have and tried downloading windows installer, but it will not let me download that either. It tells me that the setup has detected that the service pack version of the system is newer than the update you are applying, there is no need to install this update. I think what caused this mess up was a virus on my computer. The virus is gone but itunes is still messed up. Please help. It is getting really annoying because I cannot update nor get rid of itunes.

  • Airport Express green, but not found in Itunes10 - Bonjour problem?

my AX is connected to my network (join a network) and connected to speakers to use as remote speakers on iTunes (airtunes). Connection works great, status is green. I have 2 windows pc's on the network: XP and Vista.
As long as iTunes was shipped with Bonjour 1.0 this was no problem.
From iTunes version 8, when Bonjour 2.0 was introduced, the Airport was not visible anymore in iTunes, and also not in Airport Utility. Strange fact however: the AX seems to work fine (green light) and I can view the configuration in Airport Utility via 'Configure Other...' and entering the ip address on my local network. all options are set correctly for Airtunes.
I believe this is a bonjour related problem, as until now, the fix was to uninstall Bonjour 2.0 and install an old version (1.0.6)
iTunes10 however does not seem to work with Bonjour1.0
So I'm at a loss: my AX is not visible in iTunes, not in XP, not in Vista.
    Other things I tried:
    * disable firewall completely: no luck
    * reset airport express and reconfigured (all GREEN light and visible via configure other, but not found in a scan of Airport Utility when using bonjour2.0
    * open port 5353 TCP/UDP in my router (D-Link DI-524) for the AX: no luck
    Anyone having the same issue?
    config: AX(n) FW7.4.2 in join a networkmode WPA2-DHCP, Dlink DI-524, WinXP, WinVista, iTunes 10, Airport Utility 5.5.1Win, Bonjour2.0.2

I have exactly the same problem. Extremely annoying. Before, I could fix it by re-installing Bonjour after each iTunes-upgrade. But after version 10, that doesn't work any more. Or rather, I can see the AX in Airport Utilities, but it doesn't show up in iTunes. (Weird thing is, it works fine on my other computer, both run Windows Vista).
I guess one answer would be to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes?
Is Apple aware of this issue? It must be a bug in Bonjour. It's been around a long time now. Please fix it!

  • ITunes 7.6 won't install - Bonjour problem

I'm trying to install iTunes 7.6, but the installer is never able to complete.
Each time, it fails during the Bonjour installation. When it tries to start the Bonjour service, the service does not start. If I click retry, it continues to fail. If I cancel that part of the install, the entire installer rolls back, so the Bonjour service never actually gets installed anyway, and thus the iTunes installation will not finish.
    What's the deal?
Is there some way I can fix this?
Between this and the problems with the iPod Classic I was having on another computer (apparently a pretty common problem, too), I'm contemplating taking my new iPod Touch back to Best Buy and trying something else.
Edit: I suppose I should add that I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple software. And yes, I am using the iTunes64Setup.exe file.

OK,I've got version 7.5 back on my PC sans my library of songs but for now I can at least start a new, as I wait for apple to explain what happen and maybe give us a fix... here is what I did..
(I am running windoew xp service pack 2 on an old machine...)
I unistalled itunes from the add/remove programs option.
I the went into Start...ALL PROGRAMS...right clicked quicktime and chose the uninstall option.
I then right clicked Start...explore all users...program flies...
I deleted any and all references to quicktime as well as itunes...
I the found bonjour in the program flies..it would not let me delete from the program files screen so I right clicked...send to...my documents( i was able to delete the bonjour file from my docs...I don't know why, but it worked...
I then opened my music and opened the itunes folder...
I renamed all the folders in itunes by placing the word old in front of what was there..i.e. OLD itunes music library, OLD itunes library etc. (i did this so as not to have a conflict when I installed a version of 7.5 which I found at filehippo.com) I just googled itunes 7.5 to find the site.
I now have itunes 7.5 back on the PC and it seems to work...I hope this might help a little...
    Good luck!

  • ICloud, iChat, Bonjour, Problems

Before Lion, in snow leopard, I used iChat bonour accounts for 4 of my office computers to communicate between staff members.  I was able to use MobileMe to sync bookmarks, addressbook, and iCal.  Each computer had it's own "address card" and so each iChat account showed up uniquily as it's own person in the bonjour buddy list.
Now, after an upgrade to Lion and migration to iCloud (and syncing iCloud between 3 of the 4 computers) iChat bonjour accounts behave strangely.  Here's how:
All 4 computers call themselves by the same name "Front Office 1".  I have gone in to address book on each computer to change "my card" on all 4 computers hoping to get the iChat name to change, but even after that, they all stay named as "Front Office 1" and the cards don't change.  In other words, I find the card I want to be that particular computers, and say, "Make this my card" and moments later, so "go to my card" and it goes to the "Front Office 1" card.  I'm wondering if that is a iCloud sync issue.
The weird thing is that one of the computers, mine, does not sync with this iCloud account but with my pesonal iCloud account, but it keeps assigning the "front office 1" card as my own personal card in address book and therefore in iChat bonjour.  So it seems to be an iCloud syncing problem on the other three computers, but I can't figure out why my computer, which syncs with another iCloud account, keeps assigning my card as "front office 1"
Any thoughts on how I can get iChat bonjour to work with iCloud syncing and how to get each individual computer it's own name in iChat?
In other words, I want to be able to sync with iCloud my address book--essential to business operations.  I also need to use iChat bonjour and want each computer to have it's own name in iChat--also essential to business operations.  I was able to do this before with mobileme, but it now appears that iCloud is making this not work.  I'm wondering if I am overlooking some setting or option.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Bonjour as Computers show up in the Shares Section of the Finder's side bar is taken from System Preferences >  Sharing  (See Name at top)
For iChat the Bonjour "Buddies" should be using the My Card or each computer and Broadcasting it.
However there are issues about syncing the info across iCloud which keeps updating/syncing continuously.
If you are saying that the Address Book My Card on one computer is this Front Office 1 and this is syncing across the others I am not sure how that is syncing to the 4th computer that is using a different iCloud Account.
I would tend to get each computer it's own iCloud ID.
There are ways to use a Server's Directory services (I am not sure of the correct terminology) that can then have  global Address Book  that can be access from each individual Address Book.
However if there are only 4 computers this extra step may be a step too far.

  • Continued Bonjour-problems

    Hi,
I'm aware that this topis has been raised before, but I'm pretty close to going nuts, so my appologies for the re-post. I'm currently unable to install iTunes (latest version) due to a Bonjour-conflict "bonjour service failed to start".
I have administrator rights so thats not it (OS Win 7) - anybody have a solution for this?
Please, before I go crazy ...

I'm having this same issue since the latest iTunes version. My OS is Vista. This is driving me crazy.

  • Bonjour Problems

My laptop cannot communicate with other people via Bonjour. It connects but no one shows up on the contacts list, this happens both with iChat and Adium. I can however use Bonjour printers. The firewall is turned off and the iChat Bonjour box is checked, and yes to answer the obvious question I am on the correct wireless network. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
    -Thanks

Have you adjusted or modified your Directory services? Directory Services.
Are both computers on the same subnet?
I'm behind a router and did not need to make any adjustments for bonjour, unless you are blocking specific ports on the router. Is that possible? Make and model of the router?

  • Network Browser/Shared Sidebar loses Computers (Bonjour problem?)

in 10.5.1, when I start up my G5, I see in the Shared Sidebar and Network Browser (Shift-Cmd-K) my G3 and my MacBook Pro, like it's supposed to.
After some time (maybe a few days of uptime--I'm not sure), that stops working. Despite no changes being done to the G3 or MBP, they no longer show up in the two places.
I can still connect to them with a Cmd-K/using afp://address, at which point they'll show up in the sidebar.
If I restart the G5, everything goes back to normal. (Restarting the G3 or MBP does nothing).
It seems clear that "Bonjour" is stopping noticing the other computers on the network.
Is there someway to, for lack of a better term, refresh or restart Bonjour's monitoring?

I have the same issue. Different Netgear router - but I don't think that's the root cause. I've seen this in the last few months. My Snow Leopard Macbook-Pro seems to be very flaky wrt bonjour. This has included a D-Link wireless router, a Linksys WAG54G2 (purchased and returned as I thought it was to blame), and now a Netgear DG834G.
On these networks, bonjour seems to be fine (I also have a linux box and a windows machine at the moment) until I add a Snow Leopard laptop into the mix (connected wirelessly - although don't know if that matters). Within a minute the bonjour entries on other machines get crapped on. e.g. 'crapping on' extends out to the router (if you look at the Attached Devices list many entries disappear after adding the Snow Leopard box to the network - the router still handles traffic to the nodes, and they still exist in the dhcp leases file on the router though).
At this point my theory is that snow leopard is sending some ill-formed bonjour packets. I haven't looked into proving that. If someone is better versed in bonjour I can send some tcpdump data.
All these computers lived happily on a linksys wrt54g network before. If I have time in the next few days I'll set one of those up and see if that too no longer works. If it breaks, I'd be convinced snow leopard was to blame, and be pointing my finger at the update from November or December (can't remember the exact date, but it was late last year). I'm pretty sure my ability to see my apple tv and talk to it was stable prior to that.

  • Did 10.8.2 update break bonjour?

Since updating to 10.8.2 on my two macbook pros, I have the same problems on each.
    1. Airprint printers stop responding after an idle period (30 mins or so).  Requires a reboot of router to access them again.  I can access the printer admin web page just fine with Safari at all times.
    2. Access to shares using Apple File Protocol over TCP/IP similarly cannot be accessed after an inactive period.  They are visible in the Finder, but clicking on them brings up an error about being unable to connect.  Accessing the shares via IP adress does work, however, and then re-enables browing in the Finder for a while.
Is this a bonjour problem?  Any thoughts on troubleshooting?
    Thanks

OK.  I have a fix for you all that seems to work especially if you need Java 6u37 working on any computer Apple disabled it on.  This will work best on 10.6 but can work on 10.7/10.8 as well.
Do not attempt this if you do not know what you are doing.
I will not be held responsible for your system if it stops working or you expose yourself to a virus.  If you are a novice user, you attempt to do this, and something goes wrong, remember you were warned.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Using whatever editor you want at command line as root or using sudo, you will need to edit:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.p list
    Change:
    <key>JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum</key>
    <string>1.6.0_37-b06-435</string>
    To:
    <key>JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum</key>
    <string>1.6.0_37-b06-434</string>
    Change:
    <key>MinimumPlugInBundleVersion</key>
    <string>1.7.11.22</string>
    To:
    <key>MinimumPlugInBundleVersion</key>
    <string>1.7.11.21</string>
    And best of all, change:
    <key>LastModification</key>
    <string>Thu, 31 Jan 2014 16:55:59 GMT</string>
To any date in the future.  (Bad programming on Apple's part but repreive for those of us who have to support archaic Oracle based systems that won't work under Java 7+.)  It won't update again until after the date you put in there.
DO NOT Delete any of the lines that have to do with version number because it will allow older versions of Java, which are not secure, to run.  I would also not recommend that you change the date too far ahead if you are on 10.7/10.8 and are running Java 7 because the security holes in Java 7 are horrible.

  • The iTunes "Dissappearing Apple TV" problem

I've had enough with this bug. It is fatal to Apple TV's main functionality, which is to take content from my Mac and play it through my A/V system. If you search Apple Discussions you'll find a bunch of long threads from frustrated users all of whom have the same problem. We installed an iTunes software update (which was pushed upon us by Mac Software Update) and suddenly the Apple TV disappears from iTunes. For those lucky enough to get it to reappear, the good fortune is temporary: it disappears again. Oddly, even though Apple TV doesn't show up in the Device List, you can still stream to your Apple TV via Air Tunes. So clearly the problem is not IP connectivity between the Apple TV and the Mac. Apparently it's some kind of Bonjour problem.
I have had enough of this stupid problem. We shouldn't have to sit here diagnosing errors, unplugging and replugging things, running obscure bonjour monitoring apps, etc. just to have the product do what it's supposed to do. We buy Apple products because the "Just Work". Well, now my Apple product, which used to work, "Just Doesn't Work." I've sunk hours into following Apple's troubleshooting instructions, all a huge waste of time, because they don't solve the problem.
Why not just admit it, Apple, there is a huge bug in iTunes. Announce that at the top of the troubleshooting page so people don't waste their time. And instead maybe someone at Apple can work overtime to find the problem and fix it so we don't have to. I, and I am sure many others, would be very pleased to find a Software Update that restores my Apple TV back to working condition.
Ironically, users report that Apple TV works fine with the Windows version of iTunes. Now THAT would make an interesting John Hodgman commercial...

It sounds like there are problems all over the place with various configurations. I have posted in a couple of places about how I am able to get my AppleTV to work. Although its not a solution, I havent read of anyone posting an actual fix, just various different work arounds. In my case I can't let my PC go to sleep, ever.
I would have bought a second AppleTV by now if it worked. It's got great potential. But having started by trying to stream media to a XBOX360 and giving up over the lack of codec support to trying AppleTV and about giving up over reliablity issues, if I had to do it all over again I would probably just spend 1k on a PC to hook straight up to my living room TV and be done with it. Everyone is trying to sell a media extender but their first generation offerings just suck.
