Bonjour service is running, but still trouble

Hey guys,
today i want to test Remote for iTunes DJ with my iPod touch.
But I wasnt able to establish a connection between my iPod and iTunes. After a bit of research, try an error, I figured out, that the Problem must be Bonjour. So I uninstall it and reinstalled it.
Rebooted...
Hopefully waited. It fails.
The Bonjour service on my Windows XP SP3 machine ist running, and mDNSResponder is also started.
If I want to start the Bonjour-Printer Assistant, it tells me:
"Bonjour Service not available" I surprised. It ist running!
And in the settings of iTunes, it is told me to avtivate Bonjour.
I searched a lot in Google, but didn't find an answer. Maybe Someone can helb me here
Thank you

(Sorry for my english, i am from Germany)

Okay, next experiment. We're going to try uninstalling and reinstalling BonJour again. But this time we'll take a few additional explicit precations.
Download and save a fresh copy of the BonJour installer to your hard drive. (Don't do the install on line, and don't start the install just yet:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999
Quit iTunes, QuickTime and/or Safari if any of those application are open.
Now head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Uninstall BonJour.
Next, we'll clear away any leftover BonJour program files and folder.
Go "Start > My Computer".
In "My Computer", open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your *program files* are installed on.
Open the "Program files" folder.
Right-click on the "BonJour" folder (if it still exists) and select "delete".
Go back into Local disk C: or whichever drive your *operating system* files are installed on.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
Right-click on the dnssd.dll file (if it still exists) and select "delete".
Right-click on the dns-sd.exe file (if it still exists) and select "delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
After the PC restarts, do not launch any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the BonJour reinstall by doubleclicking on the BonJourSetup.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did the BonJour reinstall seem to go through okay? If so, do do you still get the iTunes trouble with the fresh copy of BonJour in place?

  • The agent service is running, but the request failed for ...

    Hi!
ZCM 10.3.3 on SLES 11. HP notebook, Windows 7 Pro SP1.
When WiFi is also switched on I got yellow diamond in ZCC and error "The agent service is running, but the request failed for one or more known addresses.". What this does mean? WiFi off -- green again! =)
    More thanks, Alar.

Does the address it's getting via Wireless have a path back to the ZCM server? That was my point. If your wireless is vlan'd away from the wired network, ZCM won't be able to contact it through THAT particular address and will show the yellow diamond as a result even though it communicates fine through the wired address.

  • Web service is running but Server Admin says "Not available"

    Hello,
I cannot configure the web service using the Server Admin tool any more. The service is running and showing no error, but the "Web" icon in the "Computer & Services" panel of Server Admin is showing dark grey color. The Overview tab of the Web Service is stating: "Web Service is: Not available"
Any ideas what I can do to get it work again?
sudo apachectl configtest gave no errors or warnings.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You should not be logging in as root, despite what anyone has told you.
And the entire mechanism of OS X Server (and most other *nix OS-en), is meant for you to not be logged in as root.
Use sudo and/or authenticate in the GUI when/where needed.

Try launching apache manually, and watch your logs

  • Jetpack890L is up and running but still no internet

I work Chelsea Manhattan and we lost both our phone and internet when Sandy rolled through.
Verizon sent us a Jetpack 890L to connect to EuFI890 (that's what the sticker says) to help us get back online, but it simply doesn't work.
Maybe we're doing something wrong, but here's what happens.
Whenever we turn the device on, it claims to have full bars and does appear on our computer's list of wifi connections. We can connect to the network and everything appears to be going smoothly. The device says it is connected, the computer says it has a full bar connection to the device and also says we have internet access. However, when we go to our browser, there is no connection. It simply loads until it times-out.
We've tried resetting the device as well as rebooting the computer and disabling wifi multiple times, but every time the same thing happens.
Is there a way to resolve this?

        Hey there hetijanm,
I am glad to hear that after Sandy that you're doing alright! That's what we care about most! Secondly, we want to make sure to give you the best service possible. Now, was this Jetpack on your account? When you received the device, did you activate it on the network? It sounds like you've done all the proper troubleshooting and it does not sound like it's the device. We would want to take a look at the network and your account to see if there was anything further we could do. Please reach out if you're still having issues.
    Thanks!

  • HT1975 My location icon in the status bar never comes on even after trying everything. Location services are on but still cannot find my location in any app. :( HELP!

I've tried to turn my location services on and still cannot be located.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.
You can confirm that by going to place with a know located router like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • RemoteFX configured and running - but still very slow

    Hello!
    The goal:
To install and test RemoteFX performance before purchase expensive server/vga.
    The success so far:
    installed and configured Windows 2008 R2 SP1 with Hyper-V
installed and configured Windows 7 Enterprice SP1 virtual machine with RemoteFX video adapter enabled
running Windows 7 SP1 client with the supported version (7.1) RDP
successful RDP connection and confirmed RemoteFX running (the shut down button + event with ID:2 on the VM and so on)
no errors/warnings in the event viewer, RDP client is 10mbit or more etc.. all settings seems to be perfect.
The hardware used (I know it's not a real server, but the idea is to "feel" the RemoteFX performance before purchase and for a single VM it's quite enough):
    AMD 6800k (SLAT enabled) cpu
    nVidia GTX560 1G GDDR5 (also tested with ATI R7 240 2G)
    8g DDR3 2400mhz memory
    The problem:
The performance is.. let say the same as with the normal RDP connection. Pretty much no difference.
I checked almost every problem on the internet related to the RemoteFX, but without a single log/message I just can't do more.
The VGA is not Quadro/FirePro.. but from what I saw, the people are just using normal cards without any problems and for test purposes should be fine.
I also tried to install the cap driver (dism / ...), without any difference (actually I'm not 100% sure that this is needed, can someone explain?).
I'll be happy if someone can point me the way I can "debug" it.
    Best!

So I was typing out a long detailed reply indicating how I was seeing exactly the same issues, and why I was pretty sure it was happening for all of us.
However, it now appears that I've been able to get it up and running pretty well. Like the OP, I am simply using desktop hardware at first to test it out but here's what I'm working with:
Windows Server 2012R2 with 8.1 Enterprise VM connecting using an 8.1 Pro machine.
    AMD FX-8150
    16GB DDR3
    120GB SSD
    Radeon HD6950 - 1GB
    Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 Motherboard
When I was seeing the issues you all are seeing, it was when RemoteFX was working fine. This was verified by dxdiag and openhardwaremonitor on the server itself watching the GPU utilization rise while rendering the fishbowl.
However, another thing I noticed was that due to the AMD software of desktops (what I have installed on the windows server itself), the CPU and GPU both clock down to conserve power. Because of this, the one VM wasn't enough to raise them both to max. Once
I forced the CPU and GPU to both stay at max frequency, everything runs pretty amazingly. VM is using 4 cores, No limit on RAM (hits about 4GB max), vGPU is set to 3 monitors at 1920x1080, and a 35GB chunk of the SSD. Here's what I see now:
HTML5 Fishbowl - Fullscreen at 1680x1050 on Auto makes it to 250 fish at 60FPS
HTML5 Fishbowl - Windowed at about 1/3rd size Auto makes it to 850 fish at 60FPS
Borderlands 2 - Able to install, use XBOX controller with USB Passthrough at about 25FPS at 1280x1024.
I would also like to point out that the biggest bottleneck it seems is actually the VM's ability to encode the data stream sending to the client at the far end. Evidence of this is shown by just taking a window and placing it over the fishbowl (I used the
task manager). Once you cover some of the fish, you'll see the framerate go up fairly significantly. (since not as many pixels are changing, and so there's less traffic to send).
Anyway, just thought I'd share! Hope you're all doing better on this!

Apple offer this advice which I guess is not much help to you as you have Norton:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1609?viewlocale=en_US
I wonder if it is worth looking in the your firewall configuration>>Programs and deleting any entry for Bonjour - in the hope that you will be prompted to allow it or not when you do the install, or maybe adding it back with permit all.
But someone came up with another possible solution at the end of this thread:

  • Bonjour Service Prevents Sleep Under Vista

    Hey all.
I've been having a problem with iTunes (well, Bonjour really - but that came with iTunes, I didn't install it independently). I'm running the iTunes 8.0.0.35 version for Windows.
When the Bonjour service is running, the machine won't sleep according to the settings under the Power Options in Control Panel. I have my machine set to Hybrid Sleep after a bit of time of inactivity, and when the Bonjour service is running, that is magically disabled (the setting's still there, but the system won't sleep).
The only "Windows" setting that relates to this is "Allow computer to sleep" under Multimedia Settings / When Sharing Media in the Advanced Power Options of Control Panel. That's already setup so that it will sleep when using Media Player to share media.
It looks like the Bonjour that comes with iTunes is the ghetto edition - there's no controllers for it that I can find. I can "fix" the problem by simply disabling the "Bounjour Service" under Services - so it's definitely Bonjour that's the problem.
Can someone tell me how I might go about setting iTunes (/ Bonjour) to allow my machine to sleep like I've told it too? This whole Apple-does-my-thinking-for-me stuff is getting a bit tiresome.
    Cheers

Unfortunately I do want to use it. I suppose I can just use Media Player to share my library (which is what I'm doing at the moment), but that seems to be a sort of half a job solution
I'm guessing this is an Apple "feature" and won't be resolved anytime soon?

  • Bonjour services disappear - can't see speakers in iTunes

    Hi,
I guess this might not be the correct forum but I can't seem to find anywhere else it may sit. I am having issues with certain bonjour services not running on my iMac, this is mainly affecting speakers being shown in iTunes. I don't have a problem with my mac book on the same network, I wonder if anyone can advise what I can do.
    Thanks

I run a studio where there are 3 Macs, each one running a different version of Mac OS X (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) and only my Mac (Snow Leopard) can see printers, iTunes servers or speakers connected over Bonjour (both the printer and speakers are connected with an Airport Express)...

  • I am unable to re-enable bonjour services to view my shared library on my PC from my Mac

I am unable to view my shared music library from my Mac on my PC (running Windows 7).  When I check in the sharing preferences, it says "The Bonjour services has been disable.  Bonjour is required to share music with others.  Please re-enable the service to use this feature."  Yet when I check the services in the system configuration, it says that Bonjour is enabled and running.  I have also checked in the msconfig and it says Bonjour services are running.  I have also performed a complete reinstall of iTunes and that did not help.  I'm looking for a solution.  Thanks.

unfortunately, You cannot get bonjour on ipad. But however, you can get a program on the mac (assuming you have a mac) called printopia (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/printopia/) which will turn your printer in to AirPrint when the mac is on. it works very well all the instructions are on the website

  • OPMN service still running but Essbase is not

I have had a few cases of recursion causing Essbase to crash, but the OPMN service still says it's running in the services monitor. Any clues why? Reason I ask is that we have taken the trouble to monitor (and be notified of failures) all Hyperion services. I do know I can address the recursion issue by changing essbase.cfg, but I actually prefer to address each issue as it arises.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kris Calabro

Thanks for the quick reply John. My issue is not getting it back up and running, but more so not being aware that the service isn't running. I know that's a bit anal, but we've gone through the trouble of setting up "watches" on all Hyperion services to be a bit proactive and would like to see tangible results for those efforts. As it stands now we are made aware when stuff stops working, sometimes through communications from our users.

Sorry for reply to post but I have a new development.  I can get it to work from my laptop if it's connected wireless but as soon as I hard wire it to the router Home share is gone.  Desktop is of course hard wired to the router to get the Gigabit upload speed so I've at least narrowed it down to the hard wiring upload.
