Bonjour services 'failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient...'??

Arrgghhh!!
Been stuck here for quite a while...
I just tried to download the latest iTunes on a brand new PC (vista) and during download the computer asked whether to allow or deny access of bonjour services. Having no idea this was related to iTunes, i clicked deny. I think there was a little box ticked saying 'remember this action' or something like that. Therefore, whenever it tries to access and download, it denies access over and over without giving me a chance to intervene.
Is this to do with my avira antivirus?? or perhaps a random internet thing??
Is there any way I can change the access rights in internet settings? im going round in circles!!
I have tried many sites but to me it all sounds al gobbledy gook so is there anyone out there who can help me?? thanks
Han

Was the message about allowing bonjour access to the internet from the Vista firewall?
You should be able to configure it to allow bonjour access. There is some infrmation about configuring the vista firewall here:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6098592.html
there is also this help from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1609?viewlocale=en_US
It may help if you have McAfee
You can uninstall bonjour if you don't need it, that's what I've done.
There is an FAQ which may help you decide if you need it.

The thread mentioned above now has some out of date direct links. This is a more recent version of that post...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Service "apple mobile device" failed to start. verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services?????

this is the message i received while installing iTunes "Service "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". I had to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes because something wrong happened with the update.
    please help me!

Did you tear down iTunes and other software? Did you reinstall using administrator priveliges?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • TS3212 I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start

I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message “Service ’Apple Mobile Device’ failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start system Services”
On pressing retry I got the same message.
On pressing Ignore, I got the message “ITunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)
I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.
I hope you can advise me how to recover my backups
