Bonjour video is bad

How come when I connect to other computers in my house via Bonjour, the iChat video looks horrible, yet when I connect to the same computers via AIM accounts, the video looks fine? Why is Bonjour messing up the video quality?
iChat 4.0.8

Hi,
Is there any difference in the way Bonjour is networked ?
i.e. is the link between the computers an Ad-hoc Wifi connection whilst the internet is Ethernet ?
Make sure System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming is set to 1.5Mbps
And Restart iChat.

  • Bonjour video problem with iMac G5

When I look at my bonjour window in iChat on my wife's iMac G5, I see my computer (a G5 dual) with a video icon and I can successfully initiate a video iChat. On the other hand, when I look at the Bonjour window on my G5 dual, it shows my wife's iMac G5 with only the telephone icon and, of course, I can't initiate a video iChat. If I look at the Buddy List instead, I can initiate video iChats in both directions. What is going on?

    Hi Raja,
in iChat go to the View Menu.
Check that the "Show Video Status" item is selected (ticked).

  • IMessage: Video Message BAD Quality?

Hey guys, I just updated my iPhone 4 with iOS 5. I've been looking forward to use iMessage because video message is my primary way of communicating with my girlfriend (no FaceTime over 3G). In iOS 4, I used a 3rd party App called Kakaotalk but it can only send 10 seconds of video message.
So I tried sending a video message through iMessage and I can send it longer than 10 seconds, which is great, but the receiver gets a bad quality of the video. If you are the sender and you play the video on iMessage, the quality is the same as the Camera app though.
Anybody have the same problem? If so, will Apple fix this?

  • Video looks bad

Ok, I am currently using FC: Express, but I don't see an express forums anywhere so I though I'd post it here. I would like to know how I can keep the original quality video I am done editing it in FC. Ususally when I am done and export it, the quality looks bad, really bad.
All I am doing right now is adding a title/credit created from Live Type and adding music to the FC project I have. The original .avi file I have is crystal cleaer at 1576x986 resolution.
    Any help would be great

    Hey,

Because there's so many variables at play in your question, and I've not got much experience, I can't really answer your main question, though.

  • No Sound in sequence and video skips badly

    Hello!
I am currently using Premiere Pro 7.0 on a BRAND NEW Gateway desktop with an i7 processor and 8G of ram. I bought this computer specifically to be able to handle editing and using media. However, I am having this aweful problem that I just can't seem to fix.
I have downloaded codecs, updated my graphic and sound drivers, etc.
The thing is, the video plays fine on my computer, sound and all. It play fine when I just double click the video to preview it before adding it to the sequence, sound and all. But once it is sequence, it skips horribly and there is no sound. I have tried converting to every file type known to man. I am at a complete loss here. Please help!

1st, do not randomly " tried converting to every file type"

2nd, how many hard drives do you have?
My 3 hard drives are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (*)
(*) for 4 drives, drive 3 all source files & drive 4 all output files

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used the eSata Dock below... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Bonjour video issues (one way only!)

Interesting... Using a MacBook and a MacBook Pro on the same network using an Airport Extreme (n) base station. No firewalls... same subnet...
If we video chat via AIM, it works fine... both ways.
When we chat via Bonjour... both computers can "see" each other in the Bonjour pane. Also, we can text chat both ways--that works fine.
When the MacBook initiates the video chat, everything connects fine and works great.
However, when the MacBook Pro initiates the video chat, it pops up correctly on the MacBook... but when he clicks "Accept," it pauses for a moment and then gives a "communication error -8".
Weird! I feel like all the settings are correct since the video chat works one way (when the MacBook itself initiates) but it doesn't want to work the other way around.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Mac Firewall is in System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab
If it is On then it is best to set the iChat ports.
This is done by clicking New
Selecting Other in the drop down
Filling in the requisite TCP and UDP ports
Giving the entry a name in the Description line
    Apply.
See the Second pic here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_ports
If these have been done then they should appear in the scrollable list when you get to the firewall.

  • Is the video ipod bad

There are so many bad posts about the video ipod i want to know if it is worth the money? seriously

I've had mine for a week now, and really have had very little problems. Between it and locatiofree tv I got for my psp those two new toys have been taking a good potion of my time.
Ok, so without further ado here is how I spent the past week.
    1) searching for a video converter for my pc, brought 3 , none worked for h264 video all worked for mp4 video,
    2) downloaded and sucessfully created videos with freeware encoders.
    3) spent loads of time trying to figure out why encoders didn't work. I'm a software engineer,
    4) brought 2 and downloaded 3 free mac converters. all worked as advertised.
    5) converted about 20 tivo/replaytv mpegs to mp4/h264 and uploaded to the ipod.
    6) developed a nightly batch encoding scheme utilizing our underused mac mini
    7) connected ipod to tv set with av cables
    8) figured out a way to stream ipod videos to psp via locationfree tv basestation
In short some fuustration and a lot of fun... How was your week???

  • Video quality bad when compresed from final cut pro to dvd studio pro. HELP

    Hello,
I have a dvd project im working on and first i tried the video that i captured from final cut to just use in dvd studio pro but that didnt work. then i used the compressor and used the 60min high quality video and that looks even worse. what do u suggest i do?

You must get to know what these settings do to be able to use Compressor. Try using a 10 second test of your video file and encoded at different settings to get a feel for how compression works.
Min 4 and peak at 7, a difference of 3 between min and peak is a good start at CBR, but you must test.
Just like using a video camera, if you use the same exposure setting all the time, most of your pictures will be unuseable, either too dark or too light.

  • Video behaving badly on macs and windows7

I have an interactive PDF I'm working on, which I've uploaded here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5075782/Interactive%20PDF/Sample%20ebook%20new.pdf
The mp4 video was made in Premier pro at a size of 1920x1080, (I wanted to use the built-in media player in acrobat 9, but it doesn't respect the aspect ratio strictly enough, and looks much better using QuickTime, so I adopted for the legacy option v6 to embed the video)
I maintain the "original H264 encoding" and "snap content to proportions"
To fit the video on all screens, I opted to resize the video to 960x540 in a floating window, allowing the user to resize (respect aspect ratio turned on)
    On XP all is great
On a mac, the window looks fine at 960x540 but resizing is very tricky as the window won't let you resize to any size you want, also it allows you to disregard the aspect ratio
On vista and Windows 7, resizing is fine but the player controls disappear, the work around is to set the theme to basic, but this is not ideal.
Has anyone else come across this problem and resolved it?

  • Full screen video player - bad quality

Hello, I got a new thinkpad W530 and I am having this really annoying problem when I play videos in full screen (Netflix, HBOgo, SkyGo, etc...).
This is an example of it. I have decided to upload this picture because it is the easiest way to show the problem.
As you can see, I am having jagged edges all over the place. During a movie it is really really annoying. I never had this problem with my previous mac and I don't have any problem with my ipad.
I am running windows 7. My graphic card is the Nvidia quadro k1000.
    Can you guys help me?

Update your video drivers, update your Flash player.
Also make sure your browser/Flash is running on the integrated GPU rather than the discrete.

  • Video quality of some iTunes videos is BAD

I've seen several articles around the net about older videos having been up-converted to be the new 640 x 480 size but when I downloaded episode one of Battlestar Galactica, Season 3 I was really disappointed to find that it was obviously up-converted as the quality was terrible! episode 2 looks great. What gives iTunes??

  • Video lagging badly on Enhanced Port Replicator

I have an X60 and initially it worked well but now the video is at a crawl, as i type this there is a 1-5 second lag on the words showing up and the mouse is horrible.  I have to look at my laptop for real time accuracy and just use the monitor for browsing  and reading.  Tried plugging the keyboard straight into the PC but that did not change a thing.  RUnning Vista.  Are there any updates that can fix this?

  • Video quality bad!

Ok, so I bought my 30GB iPod video like close to a month ago. Just a few weeks ago i threw some movies on it, but the video quality is horrible. Well not with resolution or anything, because the video is detailed. But it has black x-ray looking resolution in shadows and stuff. All that comes in normal and clear is well lighted parts of the movie and CGI such as lightsabers in Star Wars show up excellent. But I put a movie King Arthur on it which is a very shadowy movie (not very abundant in bright colors anyway) and I can't watch any of it cause its all like black. Can I take the iPod back because I put the same movies on my sisters exact model of iPod and it looks fabulous. I'm sick of being jealous of hers so I want mine fixed! Any advice!?

Yup! sounds like a manufacturing problem. take it bck and give em **** until the take it and give you your money/give you a new one just to get you to shut up. thats the only way to get things now adays.

  • Premiere Elements 8 video looks bad when editing

    Hi -
I'm brand new to Premiere Elements 8 - in fact just installed it on an HP/Compaq 6530b laptop running Windows Vista (32 bit).  Initially, I tried to edit a Flip video (MPG4) and also a Flip video that I converted to AVI.  I also have a new Canon Vixia HF M31; regardless of what video I use, the video editing window looks horrible.  There's a "double image" - the one on top is heavy green and there's another "double image" of the video below it that looks better but is below the green-shaded video (see inserted image below).  I'm wondering if it's an issue with the laptop, especially since multiple video formats have the same problem.  Where do I begin to resolve this?
NOTE: I've taken this same video and it looks fine with Windows Movie Maker (at least the MPG4 - haven't tried the Vixia .MTS video yet as I'm guessing it won't work with Movie Maker).
    Thanks,
    Calvin

Thanks Bill and everyone else.  I appreciate all of your thoughtful responses.
I've tried PE8 on my personal desktop PC (though its only a trial b/c my corporation has a license for PE8 but only for PC managed on our network) and things look much better, other than that annoying "Trial version" banner inserted on my videos.
I've render some video of my daughter playing volleyball as a PC-based media file and I'm pretty surprised at all the presets available and how using one of the various MPEG2 or NTCS presets makes a huge difference in the quality of the video.  Where can I read more about this?  What I do notice is the MPEG2 video looks very clear but is choppy when the camera is moving while the NTSC that I used is a bit pixilated but the video is not choppy when the camera is moving.
In the end, I'm trying to decide if PE8 is for me - this is my first HD camcorder and in the past I was happy with Pinnacle (way back on Version 10); I've heard that really it's down to PE8 or Sony Vegas.  I'll keep doing research and I think there's a trial download of Vegas but I always appreciate the advice of experts.
    Thanks again!
