Bonjour video issues (one way only!)

Interesting... Using a MacBook and a MacBook Pro on the same network using an Airport Extreme (n) base station. No firewalls... same subnet...
If we video chat via AIM, it works fine... both ways.
When we chat via Bonjour... both computers can "see" each other in the Bonjour pane. Also, we can text chat both ways--that works fine.
When the MacBook initiates the video chat, everything connects fine and works great.
However, when the MacBook Pro initiates the video chat, it pops up correctly on the MacBook... but when he clicks "Accept," it pauses for a moment and then gives a "communication error -8".
Weird! I feel like all the settings are correct since the video chat works one way (when the MacBook itself initiates) but it doesn't want to work the other way around.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
Mac Firewall is in System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab
If it is On then it is best to set the iChat ports.
This is done by clicking New
Selecting Other in the drop down
Filling in the requisite TCP and UDP ports
Giving the entry a name in the Description line
Apply.

If these have been done then they should appear in the scrollable list when you get to the firewall.

One way only video on ichat with aim to pc

I can only get one way video. I have a imac and my friend has a pc. He downloaded aim 6.8 and I also got an aim account. When we try to video conference with ichat he can see me fine but I can't see him. He also has a built in camera. The instant messenger also works fine. I would certainly appreciate any suggestions.

He should go to the AIM Preferences And the Enhanced IM button and select the camera (At least that was what it was in AIM 6.1 and 6.5)

Active Syn works one way only with calendar

I need some help. I have a Treo755P with Sprint and I remotely syn my email, contacts, and calendar with my office Exchange Server. Everything works great except my Outlook calendar only syns "one way!" Input into my Outlook Calendar syns with my Treo755 Calendar, HOWEVER, input into my Outlook Calendar DOES NOT syns back to my Treo755. By the way everything else syns fine both ways!!! I have checked with our Exchange Server Administrator and everything is going on fine from there end, so it seems to be in the phone. I just discoved this issue but it appears by my Outlook Calendar that it has been going on a few months. Please help.

One thing you can try is delete the server sync profile and then recreate it. Make sure you have all the server information needed before doing this. I'll continue researching this issue for other means of resolution.

Synchronizing one way only

Hello,
I have been struggling trying to figure out how to configure the BB desktop software to synchronize data only one way, from Outlook to the device, i.e. applying MS Outlook updates and additions to the device and not vice versa.
I went through the sync operation many times a few thousand entries in the address book). I experimented with the settings asking to accept changes/additions one-by-one and applying the same setting to all future changes but I have not been able to configure and execute a "one-way" syncronization operation.
Any help in explaining what I am doing wrong, and how I could achieve a one-way (Outlook >>> device) synchronization operation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Go to synchronization, upper left hand corner is synchronization configuration, click on it. The grey "reset configuration" radio button
will be active now, press it. It says :resetting configuration information') now go back and click on the synchronization
configuration button. You are now taken to the setup wizard. On each option on the bottom it says "two sync" as a default option.
You can see where you can change it to one way, either to device or to outlook.

Ichat - PC: One way only?

When I am invited by a PC user using AIM, the Video conferencing works perfectly with my isight. However, if I invite the PC user (AIM 5.9 no Triton), he does not get my video signal (stays white) at all.
Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.

I have had the same issue. The only work around we have been able to figure is I can send text asking the PC user to initiate the video chat session. I am not able to initiate a video chat from a Mac even if the PC user has AIM 5.9.
Another question is I can view the session full screen on my Mac (kind of pointless as the PC user has a much lower quality camera so it's a crummy image). The PC user who has AIM 5.9 is only able to view the session in a tiny 2" window (so the benefits of my higher quality camera are not realized). Accepting the fact that we aren't going to get everyone to switch to the Mac platform, what's the long-term outlook for cross platform video chat that works well across systems? We seem to be at the stage of "you can set up a video chat between a PC and Mac but it's not the most satisfying user experience and it takes at least an hour of reading this forum and screwing around with settings to make it work in the first place".

i know you said you didnt' change anything, but i would check anywhere along the IP path for an ACL change. someone must have messed with the security along the path.

Flash Builder 4 and Catalyst workflow: one-way only?

If I initially create an application in FB4 and save the .fxp project file, I am unable to open that file in FC. Does this mean the workflow is only one-way: from designer to developer? In the real world, a project goes back and forth from/to developers and designers.

Ovi Suite & Bookmark sync = one way only

I tried to sync bookmarks between Firefox and C6-00. Ovi Suite proudly announced syncing to be complete. But I only found it had added the phone's bookmarks to Firefox. No new bookmarks appeared in the phone's web browser.
How do I get the sync work both ways?
I tried the PC sync from the phone (what's that supposed to do anyway?) by Bluetooth but that didn't work 'cause Windows (64-bit Win7) didn't find a driver for the phone.

Ovi Suite 2 - can you sync one way only?

In the old PC Suite, you could set it to automatically back-up all the photos on the phone to the PC. In OS2 this doesn't seem possible, all syncing (especially in this case - the photos) are both ways. Now I do NOT want all the photos on my PC on my phone, so...

IPod Nano, downloading music - one way only??

I have just bought an iPod Nano (one of the earlier versions) and I have a question.
I know with iPod Classic, you can only load music onto the iPod from iTunes and that it DOES NOT work the other way round.
The Nano I have bought has come with 330 songs on it, but if they are not in my iTunes, will these be lost when I next try to put my own music onto the Nano??

Still is one way, and you will lose these songs. But they aren't yours anyway so Restore the Nano and load your own music.

When upgrading Flash 10.2 (Firefox at Version 3.6.14) Any Browser embedded videos run in a split screen (the same video in one screen only dual). Doesn't happen in IE. To fix I did a system rollback.

IChat AV allows video to be initiated one-way only

After opening firewall ports as described at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 a friend and I got iChat AV working a few days back (using our ICQ accounts in AIM); however whilst he can initiate an audio/video conversation with me and we can chat successfully, the audio and video conversation options are grayed out for me to initiate the conversation. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this?

You would be surprised at how many time people say that and then admit later on they had missed a port.
OK. As you have also checked the Show Menu item in the View Menu and the Camera and Mic Enabled item in the Video menu and have the right ports open on the Mac.... That leaves a corrupt .plist
The camera and Mic details are held in com.apple.ichat.plist
This is in ~/Library/Preferences
Delete it and restart iChat.
I take it that the Mic (Possibly External iSight) is chosen in System Preferences > Sound > Input tab, And in iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Microphone drop down ?
If you have two cameras attached then in iChat > Preferences > Video you will get an extra menu and have to make the Choice there.
The last option is that you have tried an Add-On like iChatUSBCam and the trial has run out. (Although this normally continues but sends the Desktop as default pic).

IChat 5.0.1 no audio when video chatting (one end only)

I have a Early Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66Ghz with OS 10.6.2. iChat version 5.0.1.
I am using a compatible webcam (Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000). I have full video and audio until I start a video chat.
The logitech Quickcam is selected in both the system preferences and the iChat preferences as the audio in source. I get visual feedback that the sound is being heard by the mini in both the system preferences and iChat. Sound-in is working.
We are trying to connect to a iChat 3 user using a iMac Dual Core 2 Duo. I do not remember the CPU speed.
The microphone check is on under the video menu. In the iChat preferences the audio indicator moves showing sound in.
The problem starts after we actually make a video chat connection. I can both see and hear the user on the iMac. However, the iMac user can only see me. As soon as the video connection is made, my sound indicator goes dead (no sound input showing) and the Microphone enabled menu option under the Audio menu is grayed out.
If I close the video chat and start an audio chat only, both ends can hear each other.
This is the same issue when trying to use a intel mac mini 1.5Ghz Core Solo and trying video chat with the iMac Core 2 Duo user. I am not able to verify that both intel Mac Mini's can see and hear each other as we only have one 10.6.2 webcam that works. Our other two only are recognized as a microphone.

Solved the issue on the mac mini 1.66 core duo. Still using the Quickcam 5000, but paired up a bluetooth headset to use as a microphone. That allowed video and audio to be sent from my end. Both parties could hear and see one another. Switched the sound input from the headset back to the Quickcam microphone and it worked. To make sure, I turned off bluetooth. I can now use video chat will video and sound using the Quickcam's built-in mic.

Screen sharing, audio is one-way only.

I have suddenly lost the ability to hear the other person when screen sharing. I screen share my father's computer all the time to help him with general computer issues. I have never had a problem with audio. I can always hear him, and he can always hear me.
Suddenly, this is not working anymore. He can hear me but I cannot hear him. This occurred in the middle of a screen sharing session. We were talking to each other and then suddenly he could not hear me anymore.
What's more puzzling is that I connect to my brother's computer in the exact same way and I do not have a problem with him. Audio is two-way.
I checked my father's audio settings and he doesn't appear to have muted his mic or disabled audio. My audio output is fine. I can hear system sounds, iTunes music, etc…
Could he have pressed a function key or done something without knowing and disabled his mic?
Thoughts?

Possibles (but not likely).
1) In System Preferences > Sound > Input he turned the volume down or changed the Mic selection.
2) In iChat > Preferences > Video section he changed the Mic selected.
3) In iChat Video Menu he "turned Off"/Disabled the Microphone Enabled item (He would have to be seeing his own Screen and have control of the Mouse)
4) Similar for the "Show Audio potion in the View Menu.
NONE (2, 3 and 4) of these have keystrokes set up in iChat or the System (1).
I am unaware if you leave an Audio or Video chat window open after the call was ended at the far end that the Mic Mute button still works. I could see that he may have such a window on his Desktop but don't see this as a working option.
Most Audio drop outs occur in Video chats and it is Internet Speed/bandwidth related (with a fair amount of Processor ability)
If the bandwidth is low (Lower that 256kbps and closer to 100kbps) then if the Frame rate is over 15fps then that computer may not be able to process the Audio as well as the Video pics and will drop the Audio.
Audio Only chats come in around 48-50kbps (top end dial-up) in 1-1 chats.
Screen Sharing at about the 120-150kbps mark (depending on how large the "Display is at the sending end)
This means if he dropped the Bandwidth Setting in iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down the Bit rate from his end may have dropped (slowly/Buffered) to a point where Audio failed to be sent.
The reverse would also be true if you dropped your Bandwidth to try and "Smooth out" the movement of the mouse/pointer.
For both of these last two things try iChat with the Connection Doctor (Video Menu Open. (You are likely to need to switch back and forth between your Screen and his).
I cannot think of anything that is "less intentional" like hitting the Space Bar or other keystroke or such.

My MBP crashes with diagonal video issues, and will only boot in Safe Mode. Now what?

My 17" MBP (2007, 2.33 mHz) crashed the other night as I was trying to copy some music off a friend's iPod. Now, on boot, it will show the gray Apple logo, then clear the screen, but never go farther (and the fan starts up a terriific rumble after a few minutes). It is also showing distorted diagonal lines across the display.
Things I've found:
* It won't boot to the OSX Leopard DVD, just spins, and spits out the Snow Leopard DVD
* If I put it in FW Target mode it will mount on my iMac, but the FW 800 port is so skitchy/loose it loses connection eventually
* If I boot it in safe mode, everything works--no video distortion, can connect to a USB drive, which I did to back up the entire contents, and I can mount the Leopard DVD
* During that backup (using Chronosync), no disk errors except for an Aperture library failure.
I'm not sure what to do next. Boot to the Leopard DVD via safe mode to renistall the system, hoping that it'll work after it restarts? If I were in OS9 I'd be using extension manager to turn features on and off to see what's crashing, but it doesn't look like I have that capability with Safe Boot.
Any thoughts would be welcome, let me know of any other info you need.

Oh, two other things: I ran disk utility and repaired permissions, didn't fix the problem. And I don't have one of the video cards from that era that was covered by Apple even after warranty, one of the first things I checked
