Bonjour with Windows -- accessing files remotely

Is there any way to configure Bonjour or Apache to let a friend on Windows access files in my Sites folder just like my Windows computer (on my network) in my house does?
Also, does Bonjour connect straight from my iBook's wi-fi card to another computer's wi-fi card, or does it go through a router first? Is that even relevant?
Thanks for any help with how this whole process works, or alternatives to let my friends access files remotely. (Or me from school, for that matter.)

Working with Windows offline files

Hello,
I'm desperately trying to make Adobe bridge and other applications work faster on our company's graphics design team's computer. They work with files off a company NAS drive and loading and saving files is slow. I've enabled Windows offline files for the entire folder containing their work and synchronised it to a test computer; all their files are now also stored locally. However, they're reporting that Bridge loads even slower than before. I'm out of ideas; those files need to be available to all 3 members of our design team but I still need to make loading and working with said files faster.
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone else tried adobe products with Windows offline files?

Can windows access files be viewed on a mac

Can a Microsoft access file created on a windows pc be opened with a macbook pro, if not what can be done to copy the data across to a mac os x 10.6.2 system

Asking about an Access feature in a forum dedicated to Numbers '09 isn't the more efficient way to get a responce.
It would be better to ask on an Access dedicated forum or to look in Access to which formats it is able to export the datas. Maybe one of them is recognised by an application available in AppleLand.

ACS 4.2.(1) build15 - replication failed with Cannot access file

Just upgraded from 4.0 - to 4.2 then to 4.2.1 15. As you may have seen with periovous posts of mine its not been an esay ride.
I have now managed to get it all working - backups AAA etc but for some reason i cannot get the replication to work! Its states the following...
Within the Database Replication active log - Error OutBound database replication failed - refer to CSAuth log file.
Other lines in the log state its ok eg - Component logging reports was updated - being replicated to slave...
Looking at the CSAuth log file...
.....DBReplication thread kicked..starting sync.
ODBC Operation failed with the folowing information: Message = [Sybase] [ODBC Driver] [Adaptive Server Anywhere] Cannot access file "D:$etworks\CiscoSecure 4.2\CSAuth\DbSyncSratch\users\users.dat~ -- Invailed argument, sqlStates=S1000, Native error = -602$
SL:saveUserTable - execution Failed.
Please note that the $ is a symbol that i have used because the symbol in the log is strange and i cannot seem to be able replicate here with this text, for example $etworks - should be networks...
Everything else seems to be working except this - any help would be great..

I have the same problem with the exact same symptoms - I can't get replication to work. The path name in the error message is missing the first letter, too.
PS: It has nothing to do with the firewall, the replication fails even before it tries to connect to the network.

Using Bonjour with Windows 7?

Recently purchased an HP G62-144DX Notebook with Windows 7 pre-installed. I've been trying to print using Bonjour through the airport express to my Canon printer. The airport works with the Mac OS on my iMac and Macbook pro. It usually works with an old Dell laptop that runs Vista Home Premium. However, it does not work on my HP with Windows 7 or my iMac with Windows 7. I have the latest Bonjour installation, which claims to work with Windows 7.
Oddly, when I print, I don't get an error message on my laptop. It's as though the computer sends the printed document off into space. I've tried disabling my Avast Anti-virus, thinking that maybe the print job was being firewalled. I've tried re-running Airport Utility. I've tried re-downloading Bonjour. Basically, I've tried everything that I can think of. Nothing ever prints.
Anyone have a clue how to resolve this?

I've read a lot of discussions on this problem and there was no answer I could find. However I knew that Bonjour uses IP address printing so I looked for where the address was configured. I have TimeCapsule but I think Airport works the same.
Go to Devices and Printers, right click on the Printer (HP, Samsung etc) and select Printer Properties and then select Ports and then highlight and "Configure" the port for the printer from the list. Mine Printer configuration said something like "TimeCapsule.local" for the IP address (strange IP address huh?) so then I set the IP address to 10.0.1.1 which is the address of my TimeCapsule. Eureka, it worked.

Working with Windows sharing files on MAC disk

I use more often the MAC OS, but i need sometimes to work with windows XP because of 3DStudio.
i'm using Mac disk to save all my files, but since i need to boot in Windows to get more results i can't get acess to the Mac disk! there is any solution? At the moment i'm using parallels!
i want to know if there is any simple way to share files (read and save) when i'm working in windows boot?

Install MacDrive on the Windows install or format the drive as FAT.

Problem with MS Access Files and executable files migrateds

We are migrating an old Netware 6.0 server to new SLES 10 SP3 with OES 2 SP2a. I already migrated one volume and in this weekend well migrate the last, and most important, volume to new OES 2 server.
The problem is about some MS Access databases that are very very used for all users and some executable applications that was writed using fisical path like \\OLDSERVER\VOL\PATH\APP.EXE or some links to libraries, databases, images, etc.
The old NW 6.0 server will be removed from the tree in 2 or 3 weeks and in this time the two servers will co-exists. I want to know if it is possible redirect NCP requests to OLDSERVER to NEWSERVER without users rewrite all of MS Access and executable applications. Is it possible?

Have you considered trying to use a dns alias to it. I have not tested with
MS access specifically but many other apps it works perfectly for. This is
how I get around those issues. Of course your issue is that you still
havethe existing server in the tree. How much will there still be on the
old server. You could rename the old nw server and than update its info in
dns to resolve this.

Lion SMB file sharing with windows "Access Denied"

In general SMB (windows) file sharing works fine on my home LAN (for Mac and Windows PCs). However, Adobe Flash CS3 for Windows (Win7x64) yields an "Access Denied" error trying to open any FLA file shared from my Mac Mini home server running Lion. I have double checked the permissions, and the client windows box is signing in with the correct user/password to have r+w priveledges to the files in question (rw-r--r--/644).
Copying the files locally resolves the issue (but isn't a good long term solution of course).
Is Flash is trying to take some sort of file lock that Lion's SMB/CIFS implementation doesn't support? Any ideas?

I have this issue as well. and I have it on multiple configurations. My windows machine can't open an fla file on a osx lion share. another person working on the same project (on a different network setup) can't to it either. seems like something broke with lion that was working perfectly fine on snow leopard.

Accessing Windows 2008 File Service Cluster with Windows 2012R2 File Services Cluster using same SAN

I am in the process on converting my existing Windows 2008 host servers (2 host cluster) to a Windows 2012 R2 (2 host cluster).
All 4 servers will be accessing the same SAN via ISCSI.
Currently the Windows 2008 host servers are running both File server roles and Hyper-V in clustered environment.
How can I transfer the File Server roles from 2008 to 2012R2 will still keeping access to the same SAN and LUNS?

You would have a short outage, but all it takes is to set up the 2012R2 cluster with the appropriate roles. Then remove the LUNs from the 2008 cluster and present them to 2012R2 cluster. You could initially build the 2012R2 cluster with just
its witness disk sitting on the iSCSI SAN, then move the other LUNs over at your leisure.

Set up server to access file remotely

Ok, this may sound stupid, so here goes. I have always worked for companies that had all of our files on a server. Because of this server I was able to work from home on many occasions. I now have my own design company and want to set up a server in my home that I can access remotely from my office. I don't have the faintest idea where to start. I have purchased the mac mini server (I want a dedicated computer for the server) but what's next? I have a domain name, web hosting and dedicated IP. What else do I need to get to set this up? I am pretty good with computers, I just don't have a clue what I need to make this happen. Any and all help/suggestions would be very appreciated!

It all depends on how much you want to DIY. You could pick up a book or a manual (YouTube is your friend here) and study first, or hire a consultant to do the job.
Or: plunge right in and start server.app and take it from there.

Java.exe crashes with windows access exception

When OracleASHome102HTTPServer starts I get a Win2000 access exception c0000005 on java.exe. Little DrWatson window pops up... O9i logs Logs show nothing. Only drwatson shows problem info, assembler dump, ets...
Anyone know what's wrong? I've got O9iAS 1.0.2.0, Win2000SP1, Pentium 4, 1.4GHz, 512Mg RAM?
I know there is a problem with the jre JIT compiler on the P4. Got around this during O9iAS installation by using the '-nojit' parameter on all invocations of jrew.exe and jre.exe. Is my java.exe problem still with the P4 chip?

I have solved the problem,and the method as follows:
1.look for the dll file:symcjit.dll(the path is %oracle_home%\Apache\jdk\jre\bin) ,
2.change the extension to .old
3.restart the httpServer
4.ok

Bonjour with Windows 8

I see that several people are having problems printing via Bonjour from a Windows 8 machine but with no responses so far - is there a solution on the horizon or am I going to have to buy another printer to work with my Wintel machine for the forseeable future?

Bonjour for me stopped working in Windows 8 after I installed iTunes. I havn't tried uninstalling yet, in the meantime I'm using a wired connection to my PC.

How To Access Files Remotely In Bridge Mode?

Hey guys, so I've got a TC and my roomate has a TC the only way we can get them both to work is hooked up to our router and placing both TC's to Bridge Mode. The issue is in Bridge Mode we've lost a lot of remote functionality. The main thing we both want to do is access our files when we're on the go. Is there a way to remotely access our TCs in bridge mode? I'm pretty techy so I'm open to any creative solutions.

The TC does not need that option....since it is already in Bridge Mode.
If the TC were also your router.....then it would be providing DHCP and NAT service....and the option to "Share..." would be needed....so it would appear so you could allow or open the WAN port. The example that Tesserax provides assumes that the TC is also the router......providing DHCP and NAT service.
You have a different layout. Another device is providing the DHCP and NAT routing, and the TC is in Bridge Mode.
Are you saying that option will become available when my TC sees the approptiate port is open?
You don't need the "option" at all in Bridge Mode. All ports are already open when the TC is in Bridge Mode. There is no WAN port in Bridge Mode....it automatically becomes a LAN port, so no need to "open" a port if it is already "open".

Accessing files remotely using Time Capsule

I am thinking of buying a Time Capsule, as I am looking for a way of not only having the wonderful 802.11n and Time Machine all in one box, but also the ability of remoteley accessing a folder to read/write to. Is this possible on the drive which comes with TC?

i'll lay out the pieces for you, though:
(1) start with a User object. give it username and password attributes.
(2) write a UserDAO interface with CRUD operations for a User object.
(3) write a UserDAOImpl for your Microsoft Access database
(4) write an AuthenticationService interface
(5) write an implementation of the AuthenicationService that works with the UserDAO to authorize a User.
Use a servlet to accept request from your login page and pass it off to the service. Voila.
PS - Here's skeleton to start with. UI, servlet, and controller are your responsibility:
