Bonjour won't see my printer since modem change

Hello guys
I'm using an iMac that's three years old (the design) running 10.7.3
I used to have an old modem (Speedtouch) and router (Linksys), but it stopped working.  Now I have a new modem (Zyxel), the router is gone, a switch (also Zyxel) is plugged into the modem.
Before I changed the above, I never had problems printing from my Xerox printer, neither with the iMAC nor with the old PC (WXP) that's also in the network.  But since I'm using the Zyxel modem (provided by my ISP, so I can't replace it) I'm having problems.  At first I couldn't print from either computer, but if I entered the IP of the printer into my browser, I could contact it.  Pinging and all those other things also seem to work.  In the mean time, I got my iMac to see the printer again.  But Bonjour doesn't see it.  And the PC won't either.  Does anybody have a clue what's (set up) wrong?
Sincerely
Mathy

My hp photosmart D110 printer won't scan or print since I upgraded to Yosemite.  Any suggestions?

    Hey clutterfromduluth,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your printer/scanner after updating to OS X Yosemite. To troubleshoot this issue check out the following:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
    1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
    2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
    3. Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
    4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
    5. Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
    1. Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
    2. If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
    3. Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My laptop won't see the printer

My laptop won't see the HP printer. My iMac prints fine. The printer is connected to my home network. Also my ipad and iphone won't air print to the HP 8550.

Update your os, repair permissions and restart your computer afterwards.  You probably need to check HP website for drivers to go along with the update.

  • TC won't see my printer anymore

I'm not the first one to experience this. I have an HP Laserjet printer, the drivers are properly installed on my MB. One day I was able to see the printer in the TC printer tab, today I can't?!? This is getting very fustrating as it sometime work sometime not FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
I have tried everything. Disconnect - Reconnect the TC, still no luck.
Anyone? Apple? Too busy fixing Mobile me or the iphone?!?
    Please help

There appears to be a problem with Time Capsule becoming blind to devices (printers or disks) attached to its USB port. The devices at first work fine, then stop working, and Time Capsule no longer perceives the device as connected. Operation is restored by restarting Time Capsule, either by powering it down and back up, or by using Airport Utility > Base Station > Restart. Apple has apparently not yet provided a fix (though one may be coming, of course).
    The problem has been reported
    - with a variety of disks and printers, from several manufacturers
    - Time Capsule, Airport Express Base Station, and Airport Extreme
    - Time Capsule firmware versions 7.3.1 and 7.3.2
    - printing from Mac OS X 10.5.2, 10.5.3, 10.5.4, 10.5.5, and Windows Vista
This problem is reported in a number of threads. See these, for example:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7464393&#7464393

There are several other threads describing problems that seem superficially similar but are actually different. Fixes and work-arounds proposed in those threads are unlikely to resolve the issue.
It might be helpful to describe your network configuration; in particular, how the Time Capsule is connected to the machine that first experiences the problem.

  • Can no longer print since upgrading modem.

can no longer print since upgrading modem.  none of our apple devices see the HP printer anymore.  they used to.  says no airprint printers found.  any thoughts on how to fix?

If you upgraded the modem......but you have not reset the printer back to its original default settings and then set it up again......now would be a good time to do this.
The printer still has the programmed settings to connect to your old modem, and it cannot find it, because it is no longer there. The printer is lost, and does not know how to find its way. It needs to be set up again with new settings to match your new modem.

  • My Kodak AiO 3250 won't print since installing OS X Yosemite.

My Kodak AiO 3250 won't print since installing OS X Yosemite.  I get error message on printer, "An unexpected error occurred.  Check for problem at the printer a ..."   Dialogue box ran out of space, couldn't determine the whole message.  I've contacted Kodak, no response so far.  Any other suggestions?

    Hi guys,
This is not Apple's fault. Kodak is the one responsible for updating drivers for their new printers and from what I have heard Kodak is pulling out of the printer business and are behind on updating their drivers. This video on how to install a new printer might help and explains how sometimes old drivers can still work if you don't use air print.

  • Older Airport express won't see the signal from the cable modem.

Older Airport express won't see the signal from the cable modem.
My macbook sees the AP express and I can stream music to it but no internet. If I plug the ethernet cable directly into the macbook I can see the internet

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Airport won't see printer or/and send to printer

I thought about posting this in PRINTER forum but the printer works connected directly to the laptop, so I assume it's the airport settings.
I'm visiting my parents from across the country and I hope I didn't make a grave mistake by talking them into buying Leopard. Now they can't print into the other room.
We both have Macbook laptops, both with Leopard just installed. One was erased & installed and the other upgraded. Both won't print to to HP Deskjet 5600 series All-in-one printer via Airport base station. We we're able to do before.
In TIGER, I remember having a problem setting this up until turning on the "distributing address" in the airport utility. But with the new Airport Utility application, it's completely different. I don't understand anything about the DHCP, etc.
From my upgraded laptop, it's able to 'see' when adding new printer. When trying to print something, it sends it to Que:
    "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed"
From the '_erased and installed_' laptop, it won't see it.
In my Airport utility--> PRINTER tab--> USB PRINTERS: (blank)
Under it has the name of the correct printer.
Does that mean it sees it?
    Please help.

I was having serious problems with my HP Photosmart 7600 series printer using the built in drivers in OS X 10.5. Printing would be sporadic and would take several minutes to start and then might stop printing part-way through the print job. A lot of the time, it never started printing at all.
After checking the iFelix list of Airport Extreme compatible printers, I noticed that the recommended driver was 2.7. After a little google-fu, it looked like the correct driver was the hpijs 2.7.1 driver that I also use with my Linux installs. After downloading the driver and some supporting packages and re-adding my printer (specifying the hpijs driver), the first print job started printing immediately!
Curious why Apple would have a driver that isn't compatible with the APE used as the default driver when there is an open-source driver that they recommend as an APE compatible driver available...

  • Bonjour won't print to my Airport Express from my Win XP pc

I loaded Bonjour onto my Windows XP pc. The load went fine -- no error messages. I ran the 'add printer' routine, it found my HP 1210xi (which is connected to my Airport Express by USB) and showed a driver in the selection list to add. I added the printer. The setup looks fine. When I try to print a test page nothing happens, it finally errors out in Windows saying there was a problem printint the document. It also creates a mess that requires stopping/restarting Windows spooler to clean out the old print job.
I had previously loaded Bonjour onto this PC and printed just fine.
I am running XP SP2 with Windows Firewall. I tried with the firewall turned off and get the same problem. I can ping the Airport Express from the PC.
I have other Mac & Windows PCs running on this network and this is the only PC with this problem, but I do remember having the problem with a Dell about a year ago.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I wanted to put as much data in this post as possible.

Try plugging your computer directly to the HP printer via USB and installing printer. Then disconnect and try Bobjour again. It worked for me. Although you may need to reinstall Bonjour again.

  • Bonjour won't print to ethernet windows 7

Bonjour is a very exasperating piece of stuff.  I am trying to get a printer attached to a Mac to print a document from Windows 7.
    Bonjour installs properly, I think.
The Windows machine (connected by ethernet, not wirelessly) sees the printer on the Mac.  The Firewall is turned off.
The print instruction is sent, the print job goes off ...  and probably lands on the Moon.  No print results come out of the printer.
Directions would be most welcome; this should not be rocket science!

A follow up comment, in case somebody has similar complaints.  I have established full printer sharing with my PCs, so my nasty remarks about Bonjour were inappropriate.  There were some steps that I had to follow to get things working:
    1) on the iMac, confirm that the printer has the most current drivers.  I had relied on the Mac updates and while the driver printed fine on my Mac, it was a couple of service numbers behind what was available on the Canon site.  So make sure the drivers are current.
    2) On the PC, uninstall and re-boot.  Re-install.  Make sure the operation completes fully.  I think my error was in being impatient.
    3) Select the printer you want to use from the Bonjour software before calling the print job.  This may seem obvious, but the instructions don't speel this out as comprehensively as they might.  Following this step, then calling the printer, produced nice results.

  • LaserJet M1217nfw won't do wireless printing from iMac 10.7.5 after HP firmware update

My LaserJet M1217 worked perfectly until I did the recent firmware update. Now it's a brick. I called tech support, was on hold for nearly an hour, got offshore folks who kept me on even longer with marketing hoo-hah, and finally told me that the mfp was no longer under warranty and they wouldn't help unless I paid. I explained that the problem was caused by HP's own firmware update, but no dice. Tried a tweet to HP - also no luck. Tried again, had a nearly two-hour hold, couldn't understand the guy. Wasn't about to pay when the help was incomprehensible. So now I have a brick. And clients waiting. And a grudge.
I tried the fix suggested earlier in the forum - holding down the x and the right arrow while powering up. The printer showed ready...and made copies, but when I tried to print I still got printer errors saying the printer isn't connected to the computer.
So I went to system preferences and deleted the HP M1217, then went online and downloaded the HP driver again. Opened it up, but now during setup it wants the network address or network name for the desired printer. And I have no idea. I tried going on Safari and entering localhost:631/printers, but since the HP still isn't in the system, it doesn't show up. And maybe this wasn't even the right thing to try, but I'm getting no help from HP, and I'm not very technical. Argh.
Any thoughts? Or should I just chuck what was a wonderful device and never buy anything from HP again.
    Thank you!!!

    Hello SC_W,
The IP address can be fixed by going to Setup > Network Config > TCP/IP Config from the printer front panel.
Then select Manual and set the IP as manual.. I would using an higher value to avoid IP conflicts (e.g. if the current IP is 10.0.0.1, change only the last part to 10.0.0.20 so the address will remain and won't be used by other devices when the printer is powered off.)
Although I personally doubt it will help assigning a fixed IP as Mac OS X uses Bonjour hostname to communicate with the printer (which is fixed) and not athe IP address as Windows uses.
Additionally, as Apple products uses Bonjour, I could see some discussions on this matter for the Home Hub 3.0.
    Below is an example:
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/HomeHub-3-Apple-Bonjour-not-working-for-AirPlay-AirPrin...
If setting a fixed IP does not help, try the folowing to isolate the problem and ensure if Multicast packets transfer may cause the issue:
From your Mac go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, click the Plus sign and then click the IP tab.
Select the HP Jetdirect Socket protocol and type the IP as the address value.
Add the printer, you will see an additional print queue listed as the IP address.
Keep using this queue for printing and let me know if you may se any difference for this print queue..

    Shlomi

  • HT1338 I can no longer AirPrint to my Dell AIO Printer since I upgraded to Mavericks. Any suggestions?

I can no longer AirPrint to my Dell AIO Printer since I upgraded to Mavericks. Any suggestions??

Okay. That is a good result. It proves you have a working network connection between the Mac and the Dell.
So with the printer not showing using Bonjour, you could try adding the printer manually. With Printers & Scanners open, click the plus button to add and then select the IP icon. You can then enter the IP address of the Dell. Set the protocol to HP Jetdirect-Socket. Leave the queue name blank. Change the Name from the IP address to Dell Wireless. Leave the Location blank and in the Use menu, select the model of Dell you have. Then click Add to complete the queue creation and then see if you can print.

  • Re: Any problems printing since 10.6.8?

Hi, Since I've updated, everytime I go to print on any of the printers I'm connected to at work, which up to a couple of days ago and the update I keep getting that printer is paused, but won't resume no matter what.  Any thoughts?
Printers are Toshiba printers at work, couple different models, none of which now will print for me.  I'm using a MBP Late 2008, 8GB ram. (have repaired permissions).
Thoughts and thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

A number of users have experienced the same problem as you after the 10.6.8 update. Have a read of this thread. For many the solution has been to replace the 10.6.8 cups backend services with the versions present in 10.6.7. So if you have been using Time Machine you can follow the same procedure of restoring some of the files located in /usr/libexec/cups/backend. Depending on what protocol the Mac is using to connect to the Toshiba you can just replace this backend. To determine what backend is being used, open Print & Fax and select the Toshiba queue. Then click on Options & Supplies and look at the General tab. You will see the print queue URL and this will show what protocol is being used, such as lpd, socket or dnssd. Once you know this you can then just restore the old backend service and replace the new version.

  • Bonjour does not see any of the network printers

I have no idea how this bonjour stuff works or if it evens works at all because I installed it and it won't recognize any printer installed on the mac network.
I have a Mac Pro with Vista64x installed with boot camp. I use the Vista 90% of the time for one simple word: autodesk. Until they figure out a apple compatible version of their software, I'm stuck using windows. The catch is that the office is 100% mac and the printers are networked for mac use.
The only way I can print my work from Inventor or Revit is to plug myself directly using USB cable to my 24" HP plotter. Great if I need ArchiD size print but not good if I need a simple 8.5x11 run of the mill print.
So I tried this bonjour thingy and ... well ... nothing, nada, no printer seen, zip, null...
Tired of having to convert my files to pdf and then booting in MacOS in order to print then having to boot back into Vista to continue my work.
So, after all that venting, my question is: Is there a STEP-BY-STEP guide to using this bonjour or should I try something else instead?
    Thanks for your time everyone.

Hi this may be helpfull as iv used this with linux. There is a program called crossover which you can download from www.crossovergames.com there is a mac version and it allows you to run windows software on your mac without having to run windows you can download a free trial to test to see if it works with your programs. You still mite not be able to print but a least you wont have to keep booting into vista everytime you want to use it. Hope this helps.
