Bonus video tracks not so bonus

I recently purchased an album through itunes which has several tracks identified as "bonus video tracks". I can play these audio tracks out of the library on itunes on my computer, but none of them download to my ipod. I do not have the 60G photo ipod (yet), but it seems that if they play in itunes, they should download to my ipod. I have the most recent version of itunes AND I have run the ipod update recently. Do I need to change some settings or am I SOL? Thanks for your thoughts.

C Ogle, thanks for the tip. The files are already AAC...that is how they download from itunes. Obviously, it is impossible to convert them to another format (i.e. mp3) because they are protected files. They play fine on my computer, they simply will not download to ipod.

  • Alternate video tracks not visible

I have video files that occasionally display very different content to the primary video content, especially the first time they're played. The video stream with start to disintegrate and for a few seconds something completely different is viewable. It's also not easily repeated. Its not like pristine video content suddenly appears. The main content becomes visually corrupt or fragmented, pixilated, smeared, etc and alternate content becomes visible for brief periods.
What can I do to separate or remove the primary video track enabling the covered tracks to be visible?
I'm viewing these video files with vlc and premiere pro in a Windows 7 environment, but not skilled enough to devise a procedure to expose the underlying content.
Answering questions is not a problem.
Thanks for any suggestions or links to relevant material.

If you are willing to try anything, how about importing the file into AE?
I'm guessing the encoding is corrupt or non-standard since you are seeing the same problem in several programs.
How to get the correct frames? Well, if you are seeing different frames each time you play through it, you may have to do a manual save of each frame and then try to put them in the correct order.
I'd try to open the file in several other video programs and see if it works in any of them. Have you tried Handbrake, for example?

  • Show Frames Function on Video Track NOT Available on Premiere Pro CC

I've been using Premiere since version 1.0 - almost 15 years.  One of the functions that I've always used was the "Show Frames" function on the video track timeline.  It's very visual and helps me to "see" my project a whole lot better.  And, now it's gone.  why?  Why take away a good thing?  Was it just forgotten?  Did some editor prefer the AVID look and feel?  is that what Adobe is doing?  Where is my Show Frames function in CC - I want it back!!!

You know, I did spend some time reading about the new features.  And I do expect that some things get moved around a little bit.  And, most times I figure those changes out on the fly.  But this one was pretty well hidden.  By the way, in '96, Premiere was more like version zero and it was just Premiere - no Pro at the end.  I'm pretty sure I trained on Premiere 1.0 around '97-'98 at a training facility in Dallas.  I just went and dug up my Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 installation CDs in its original case and in excellent condition - a collector's item!  It says Copyright 2004 on the back sleeve. I put the disc in the computer and read the date of the AutoPlay file - December 9, 2003.  and the installation files are May 10, 2004. They didn't pop out upgrades back then like they do now!

  • Video Track Not Showing up in Sequence

I am fairly familiar with FCP, but for some reason I cannot figure this one out. I am working in a project with multiple sequences and I am basically cutting one huge clip into several small ones. I marked my in and out points on the clip in the Viewer window then hit INSERT and only the audio showed up in the timeline. This is odd to me because it was working fine moments before. My V1 track is not turned off or "unattached". I am unsure if I accidentally hit a shortcut by mistake or maybe I need an update. I tried restarting the program and it helped only briefly. Can anyone assist me with this?

#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://www.fcprescue.com and run it.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • FCPX export: Mutliple video tracks in MP4!?

    Hello
I noticed something strange today. FCPX sometimes integrates two video tracks in MP4-Files when exporting. Can anybody explain why this happens?
I exported a bunch of MP4s with different lengths out of FCPX using "Share for Apple Devices 720p". (Same settings for every file: 1280x720px, Format: Computer, Quick Conversion)
Then I tried to import them in Compressor. Some worked, some didn't. So I started to have a closer look at them, trying to find the differences.
    MediaInfo revealed the following:
    Normal MP4-File, working in Compressor:

    Anybody knows, how this happens?
I do have some chapter markers set in the timeline of most of the videos and include the markers in the export but as far as I have seen, that didn't make a difference...

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • Button on video track via subtitles work but not for audio via story

    Hello,
I have a video track with two different audio (two versions of music). I have created two buttons within a subtitle to have them directly on the video
if i make a link to the menu, the button work correctly. But in fact i make a link to two different stories, each with the different audio track
this way it does not work ..
    any idea ?

    Hey Thierry Arnould,
    You could use scripts.
Create 2 scripts each with the function "Set System Stream"
and select the "audio streams" which you want to use.
Then add as Startscript to the corresponding story.
    hope that helps

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.
Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) at:

It will allow you to archive your current preferences if you wish to restore them later.

  • Video track/layer missing on QUICKTIME export - not missing if I use H.264 export?!

Having a strange issue with Premier Pro CS5.04.  I'm exporting a video - 2 layers of MP4 video and one TITLE layer over the top.  The top video layer is a cropped and blurred section of the same file as the clip below, to obscure some text on the video.  When I export as an H.264 mp4 file it all exports fine - all layers intact and the blurring looks fine.
However, when i change to a QUICKTIME Pro Res 720 codec, the export does not include the blurred video layer - the settings on the timeline are identical, no opacity changes etc, and if I move the clips around to different video tracks the same issue occurs.  Any idea why it would ignore the top video clip in a quicktime export?! Seems bizarre.
I'd love to include a screen grab but the uploader isn't working on this window. Useful.

I've spent the last week searching the internet, reading articles, posting on forums.  Found several people with the same issue, but no answers.
The code is fine.  I've tried code from several other articles/posts... they are all the same.  Standard <object><embed> method.
Only thing I can think of is that the QT file is NOT being properly exported with Fast Start encoded.
I was using QT Alternative, which MAY be part of the problem...  But real QT has a major bug in the installer that Apple appears to be ignoring for a long time now (...non-admin accounts get an error when trying to run QT, as the registry keys are not properly set as far as permissions).... which is preceisely why I went to QT Alternative.  I tried installing QT (real) again today, but got the same error with QT (...can't find ActiveX files... which is what appears as a result of the installer bug).
What I'm trying now is I (reluctantly) switched my account to an Admin account (...QT now actually works, rather than getting an error on startup), and I'll try exporting the QT renders again, and see if there's a difference.
But, ya, there appears to be a lot of people out there who can't get the Fast Start working lately.
I'm open to any alternatives... as long as they are not complicated, and as long as they work.  Just want embedded files on my site that Fast Start (or equivelant), and only start downloading when you click play (...otherwise, I'll have 10 clips competing to download while my HTML page still tried to finish downloading it's own content).

  • Video and Audio Tracks not displayed

In Adobe Premiere, I've been trying to drag footage from my bin, and place it in the timeline, but every time I try it, from pressing onscreen buttons or applying keyboard shortcuts it doesn't go. Also, there are no audio or video tracks inside of Adobe Premiere, which alarms me. Can someone assist me with this problem?

  • FCPX not seeing video track of rewrapped MTS files

I accidentally formatted an SD card containing AVHDC files that I needed, so I used a data rescue program to rescue the MTS files. Getting them into FCPX has been very trying. I used Smart Converter to "rewrap" the files as .mov, and Quicktime can read both audio and video, but for several of the files, FCPX only imports the audio track. I tried several different conversion programs, and even used a program to create an archive directly from the MTS files, but FCPX is refusing to see the video track on several important clips. Since Quicktime can read the video, I know it's there, but how can I get FCPX to see it? Thanks in advance for any help, I have been ripping my hair out over this one...

The fewer times video is "stepped on" the better so, I do want it to leave the original video alone if at all possible. Audio... don't really care. Most 44.1/128kbps stuff is good enough for me (partial hearing loss...) but, I am meticulous, so all my audio is at least 48kHz 24 bit AIFF for production. FCPX does quite well with AAC, but obviously it should be analyzed and fixed on import... it is not an editing format. *My* camcorder exports AVC/AAC audio. AAC is usually an MPEG-4 Audio format and pretty much the current standard for AVCHD video.
I have never seen SC Pro change the frame rate. However, I do know several consumer grade camcorders actually "lie" about their frame rates. Everything is shot at 59.94 and "interpolated" to the "advertised" optional framerates of 24 or 30 (technically: 23.98 / 29.97 p) if those options are selected by the camcorder user. If the video is 1080 -- it's 60i -- it doesn't matter what framerate you think you set (gotta read the fine print on these cameras!) 720 is actually 60p. SD is 60i interpolated down to (usually) 30i (and some cameras have the option of 30p.) So, Smart Converter must be seeing the original h.264/AVC video in it's native format when passing it through as 59.94 interlaced. That is not a bad thing. However, in FCPX, a 1080 project should be manually set up for 29.97p and have the 1080/60i media conformed to the 30p framerate.
PS - I've actually seen perceptible color changes/loss of dynamic range after using ClipWrap (it was trying to do a transcode...) so, not convinced. Quicktime 7 Pro is the best app to use IF it can open and play the original video. Every conceivable/available export option (depending on system installed codecs) is available, so ProRes + Apple Lossless (AIFF) audio conversion and considerably less trouble to use (and 20 bucks cheaper) than Compressor. Unfortunately, it is no longer included with the OS and part of the FCP toolbox [free "Pro" activation when installing FCP Studio — which is too bad].  The best scenario is having FCPX import/ingest the original video without the use of a extra or third party app. That is, however, not really an option for the OP.

  • Video and audio tracks not synchronized after importing

When I try to watch a video in quicktime or itunes video and audio tracks not synchronized. If I wach on another player they are synced. Anyone help?

    John:
Thanks for your reply.  Excuse my referring to you as "Kevin".  I'm new to the Adobe Community.  I have also referenced another article which is seemingly a bit easier to fix for such a non-technical woman like myself.  I'm going to try both solutions.  Whichever works I'll be sure to reply to the thread with my findings.  I found this article which provides the following solution:  http://blog.flickharrison.com/2012/04/problem-solving-in-adobe-premiere-audio-glitches-and -sync/

  • Long load times for large video tracks

Is there a recommended file size to stay under for video tracks in iTuens U? I know the hard limit is 500Mb per upload, but it seems as though any file that is more than about 10 minutes in length takes upwards of 10 minutes or longer to load. A short video (under 5 minutes) will load immediately. Is iTunes content not really streamed?

No, it is not streamed. But iTunes U isn't setup to be a streaming service. If you sniff packets (I didn't want to, but our security guy made me because of a local issue ... long story), you'll see that content is grabbed by way-of-an HTTP GET. There is a certain sense to that ... iTunes and iTunes U are, effectively, aggregators of content. You can get iTunes U to stream ... sort of ... but it is not a true streaming service (and, in fairness, it wasn't designed to be).
There is a trick you can play with encoding ... I don't have my notes with me (someone will remember) ... wherein you can ask that content be encoded to play as quickly as possible ... "instant on". There are a couple of apps, I believe, that help automate the process. It is not the same as streaming, but is helpful in situations in which you want a streaming effect.

  • Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
    Help, please?

Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".
