Book Advice
What is a good, fairly cheep (under $40USD) java book for beginners? I need one that will cover from the beginning on up. I need it to be easy to understand, I have a little bit of programming experiance already but I would like more and the online Java class I'm taking just isn't up to par (and it stops just a little after the basics).
Any suggestions?

Back in the game.. Some book advice
I read Head First java some 5-6 months ago and worked java for 1-2 months. After that i made a pause till now. I want to know what book is good to quickly remind me what i knew. I have been doing some simple apps like calculator, jurnals, worked with databases, swings etc.
So what book is good for me? i don't want to read something with 500 pages or more, 'cos my schoolyear will start soon and i will have plenty to read there.

Well this is very good advice. I knew this exist, and onestly i never expected it to be so good, 'cos when someone realy knows something(like the guys who wrote this know java) its hard to explain it simple as it is.

Flash 10 Media Rich Flip Book Advice
I would like to create a flip book which deploys flv video similar to the example below.

I have purchased the HTML version of Flippingbook from the site below but have encountered various problems, in that it only supports Flash 9 +actionscript 2.0. Also the facility is problematic with zooming swf files. Great for flat brochures but not able to deploy flv video within swf files which is a shame.

I am new to EP and am into portal development using EP 6.0. My company library has decided to buy 1 book from SAP press to help me with my work. But I am confused which 1 to buy , "SAP Enterprise Portal: Tech and Prog" by Roland Fischer or "Mastering SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 Application Development" by Wittwer. Suggestion anyone please?

I am not too sure about these books you mentioned.
Instead of getting a hold of these books, I would still suggest that the SAP material would be a safest bet. If you can get a hold of EP Fundamentals, EP 200, EP 300 that would suffice.But, if you want to gain expertise in Web Dynpro development, then TJA 311 is the ideal book.

Western Digital My Book Advice
I am thinking about getting the WD My Book Pro Edition/500 GB Triple Interface.

1. Does anyone know if the Western Digital My Book is bootable?
(On a side note, what makes an external hard drive not bootable? Does it have something to do with the interface?)
2. On Western Digital's Web site, the product is listed with a three year warranty and the part number is WDG1T5000. But when I checked on the Apple Store Web site (and even Amazon.com and BestBuy.com), it lists the warranty as "one" year and the part number is different by one letter (WDG1T5000N).
Has anyone come across this discrepancy? Maybe these are two different drives. I cannot seem to get a straight answer from Western Digital tech support. I don't know if the local Apple Store knows the answer.

As for an FW400/800 enclosure. I keep debating about getting one since I have never used one before. Is it pretty much plug and play?
If one were to use an enclosure as part of a backup scheme, how does one store a full drive after removing if from the enclosure? Are there storage cases of some kind or is it the static bag deal? How long can you generally store a drive?

Battery Life significantly! reduced just by loading Maverick
So when will Apple address this major issue?
Just do a search and see that a lot of people have experienced this. My battery life was cut by 2/3 the moment I loaded Maverick. I loaded it based on the promise of improved battery life. THIS IS A LAPTOP. BATTERY LIFE IS EVERYTHING!!!!
HAS ANYONE FOUND A REAL SOLUTION? Everything I read are well meaning people offering standard advice about battery life. Please do not add more standard book advice here (i.e. close programs you are not using, etc. duh). Email Smartforms with Email Body
Hello SAP Community,
Sorry if my question has been asked before, but I did not find any answeres yet.
I am using BO SOFMFOL and these FM to send my smartforms to external email:
- CREATE_RECIPIENT_OBJ_PPF
- CREATE_SENDER_OBJECT_PPF
- SO_USER_AUTOMATIC_INSERT
This is working fine. My question is: How do you add an Email Body? I am on ECC 6.0.

Why no 'Public connections' link is displayed?
Hi, I meet the problem with Discover(with oracle10g 10.1.2) : according to "Discoverer configuration B13918_02.pdf", Section 4.6, we could create "public connection" via OAS manage page,
But there is no hyperlink "public connections" , where I can found it ? but the above document show the following step , and it should have the hyperlink to that, but I can't found it ?

2. Display the Application Server Control Discoverer Home page (for more

I have delete the old java class, and i have created a new java class with the same name, as i see on the book, but there were many problems and i don't know what i must change.

P.S i think there is a error in the book, because the new scripts don't create the metod "set", or i must put insert the new script in the old script, but class is the same.I'm not sure if this will do it. That's a lot of code to sort through.
Before the change, you didn't have any constructors. Now you're adding them in. So if you have Strings as instance variables, a constructor won't be able to change them.
Try just saying private String manufacturer; at the beginning.
instead of keeping the " ='Sconosciuto' " part. Strings are pointers and they cannot be reset.
I've never seen a book use setter methods to set the variables. If you haven't defined your variable manufacturer yet, you should be able to just say inside your constructor:
manufacturer = "Audi", e.g.

Not sure what you mean by "joined now in SAP MM". Do you have a job where you do SAP MM? Are you planning to take coursework through a certified training provider?
In general, I recommend you buy an overview book on SAP and on SAP MM. Also, check out one of the many youtube overviews of SAP and/or SAP MM. This should help you get your bearings a bit.

I need advice on a quality color-laser printer to work with my Mac Book Pro and my wife's Mac Book

I have a Mac Book Pro and my wife a Mac Book, both with Intel Chips.
I'm running OS 10.7.5 while she is running 10.6.8.
Our budget is between $200 and $400,
We would like the following features:
1. Wireless printing over a linksys router home network. It would be very nice to have the printer in a central location without having to have it USB'd directly into the router. Our router has a fixed location in the house and the printer will be located elsewhere in the house.
2. Reasonably fast to fast printing (pages /minute)
3. Color and black/white printing if the cost isn't too much higher to get color printing capability.
4. AirPrint from iphone 5, if possible.
5. High quality photo printing is not a requirement......looking more for high quality document printing (Word, pdf's, etc) and printing of material from the web.

New to Mac...Need advice...MBP and My Book external drive
I'm new to Mac. Getting my MBP 2.4GHz/15" in tomorrow and this will be a migration from the Windows world to the Mac world for me. So I need some advice.
I received my My Book Pro 500GB external HDD in today and have a friend's MacBook running the current version of OS X to do any work I need to do to this HDD.
I'm going to have Windows XP Home available via Boot Camp and Parallels (depending on whether I need to run natively or not) in case that matters.
Here's what I have in terms of data:
- about 2GB of data files (Word, Excel, etc.)
- about 6GB worth of photo files
- about 85GB of home movies that are in .avi format at this time
I'm a little overwhelmed with all that I've been trying to digest regarding this move and just found out my laptop will be here tomorrow. I thought I had some extra time but that hasn't turned out to be the case.
What doesn't make sense to me right now is how to get my data over to my new machine, move what isn't critical to have on the laptop's HDD out to external, and how to figure out which file system I'll need on this external drive. My laptop will be partitioned with 30GB available to Windows and the other 130GB for Mac. Do I need to format this external drive with the Mac file system only? Or do I need to leave some space formatted FAT32 in case I need some overflow on the Windows side? Will the Windows environment be able to see any of the Journaled space on either the internal or external drive? I assume not.
I'm so confused right now, I can't even put anything down but these fragmented thoughts. Hopefully somebody knows where I'm at and can give me some advice.

Since I don't have an ICBM (Intel-chip-based Mac), I can't help with the external HD stuff. However, you should be aware that file system formats and partition mapping schemes are two different things.
OS X requires the Mac OS Extended (HFS+) file system formatting—applies to both PPCs and ICBMs. Details on file system formats are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Performance/Conceptual/FileSystem/Artic les/MacOSXAndFiles.html
ICBMs the GUID Partition Table scheme. Details on partition mapping schemes are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/universalbinary/universal_binary_tips/chapter_5_section10.html
Whether or not you can use both the Mac OS Extended and FAT-32 formats on separate volumes, I'll leave to the other experts. -
the time capsule is giving flashed amber light and i cant connect it to my mac book pro. i want to use it with the time machine to make backup for my mac. please advice me.
To do the setup, plug it in via ethernet.. do not try to setup over wireless.. Once it is setup you can plug the TC into the network and use wireless.
Most likely you will use the TC in bridge to an existing modem router.. but we cannot help as you have no details of the network setup.
I do recommend in the setup of the TC you use SMB type names.. that means, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. as later Mac OS do have issues with long names, spaces and that apple shocker, the apostrophe. -
Book & software advice for creating a program that would utilize USB.....
Hey All,
I've been a mac user for about two years now and have become more and more impressed by the stability offered by Unix.
However, I still live in both worlds (XP and OSX) and my programming roots are windows based (sorry ).
Here's the problem:
I'm trying to determine which direction I should head for writing a program that gives me access to the USB ports on a Mac, and allows me to correlate it to a web atmosphere.
My thoughts are: I'd have a device attached to a USB port (or multiple), and I'd use a system (OSX) USB driver to write to a database, in turn - use dreamweaver to build a WEB that interfaced with this database.
I'm not sure what software I should use to write an app that can talk to my USB ports, as well as load them into a chosen database. I think once I have the data collected into a database, I can handle the WEB side of this, but I want to take this one step at a time.
I installed Xcode and I was ready to take off when I said - "wait a minute, this isn't exactly visual studio." [even though it's somewhat similar]
My programming background is in C++, VB and ASP (with VB script & Java Script) but I haven't written for about 3 years (hence the ASP and not ASP.net) - So feel free to steer me in the right direction or just give me a general verbal tirade and tell me I'm in over my head! LOL
I've bounced all over these message boards, and see everything from opinions on Java, C, C++, even Python (which I never heard of until a post yesterday: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=133836&tstart=0)
I'm asking for some advice on what books would be a good aid for me to purchase in order to help me achieve what I'm trying to do. I stopped in at my local Border's bookstore the other night, and there was quite an array to choose from.

Another major thought in my mind is the transition to little endian, which is what Intel uses (vs OSX big endian). Obviously, I don't want to get burned by this if I flip the wrong bit after the architecture changes....
I realize I may have really 'broad brushed' this, but I really wanted to hear everyone's thoughts since there may be other 'projects' I attempt to tackle on OSX.
Your suggestions on any books, sites, software, etc will be greatly appreciated......
