Book for  Certification Programmer

I'm going to prepare for the Sun Certified Programmer, so I'd like to know which book do you recommend. I have found four titles, in which I am interested:
1. Heller / Roberts: Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide (3rd edition)
2. Brogden / Green / Brogden: Java 2 Exam Prep:Exam 310-025
3. Jaworski: Sun Java 2 Programmer and Developer Exams
4. Stanek : Java 2 Certification Exam Guide
Any experiences? Which one do you recommend?
Best regards

  • Objective question book for certification

    Hi,
I was preparing for my first level certification CLAD. I wanted to know if there is any book on the objective questions . I have already cleared the fundamental test at ni.com. I am looking for more practise.
Anyone who has given the test or plan to give one, please post some ways of preparing for the exam.
Also how hard it is ?
Any special tips for 2006 exam?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am preparing for the exam by reading basic I and Basic II books.
I have given couple of fundamental tests on the NI website.
Also I keep reading and answering  NI discussion posts to check on my knowledge about Labview.
Any other material that would be helpful in clearing the exam.
Also according to certification FAQs the passing percentage is 70% whereas the fundamental test results will declare you Pass only when you score more than 80 %.
What is actually the passing percentage for the exam?
    Regards
    CLAD
    Using Labview 5.1,6.1,7.1.8.0

Passing the test myself you are required by NI not to disclose any information so where do I start?  If you have been using LabVIEW for at least a year you should be fine.  The test is constantly changing so even if I were to tell you what to study it may be all different.  I guess the best advice would be able to inspect code without running it and know what LabVIEW result will be.  If you are comfortable with loops and shift registers and understand what the result of the code wold be then you should do OK.  I know the questions was what books would help the most.  I just looked at the LabVIEW manual and managed to do fine.  Another tip would to be study the things that you typically don't use or how it is implemented.  A book will help you to a point but you need to be comfortable with LabVIEW and its wide functionality.
    Does this help?

  • Book for Certification

    Hi there
I am new to java and plan to do Java certification starting with SCJP.can someone suggest me a book which covers J2SE 5.0 for this certification.
    Thanks
    Dexter

    The java tutorials.
    Exam objectives:
    http://ca.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-055.xml
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/index.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/index.html
Shoud get you objectives 1,2, 4, (large part of) 5 and 7
3, 6 and some part of 5 are new to 1.5 or just API specific (Threads are delt with in the
tutorial but section 3 mentions some other classes you should know of).
In 1.4 you needed to know some swing but that seems to be gone now, use this tutorial
to get to know a little swing:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/index.html
    These you should allso read:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/language/autoboxing.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/i18n/TOC.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/extra/regex/index.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/collections/TOC.html
play arround with the following classes:
    BufferedReader,BufferedWriter, File, FileReader, FileWriter, PrintWriter.
DataInputStream, DataOutputStream, FileInputStream, FileOutputStream, ObjectInputStream, ObjectOutputStream, Serializable.
That would get you about 90% of what you need to know, check the objectives and
read the tutorial if any objective is not in the URL's posted above than google for it
(note that this forum will put spaces in long URLs):

  • Forums and Books for 1Z0-051 Certification Test

I am starting to read my Certification book from Oracle Press on test 051, SQL.
What other forums or websites will I find helpful for this effort? I mean both Oracle approved and non-official Oracle forums. I am interested also in non-offical forums so people can say uncensored or candid things about the test or the products.
A good answer would be a list of the forums here on the Oracle website that will help as well as some websites or forums not on this website that are good for test 051 and the material I need to know.
I also want to know what certification books or manuals cover this material or test? Are there some other popular certification books for test 1Z0-051? Which Oracle manuals cover this material? Again a good answer would be a list of books and a list of manuals.
I read somewhere that the online Oracle Library now costs to access. Is this true? I am on a strict budget.
I read something about Oracle products on this website but as you might expect they only list Oracle products or approved products.

The main problem one has in doing certification training is avoiding unauthorized learning material (A lot of web searching will lead to braindumps which are bad).
Obviously the SQL forum will help.

Find the SQL reference under http://docs.oracle.com

If you are talking about http://docs.oracle.com this is free
I read something about Oracle products on this website but as you might expect they only list Oracle products or approved products.Proably what you need to be looking for is getting Oracle XE downloaded to your local machine, possibly in a virutal machine, virtualbox, vmware server. You will need specific linux versions, xp pro or vista business.
Visit http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/index.html .. oracle XE is currently there as a top download.

    Hi,
    Check this link.
    www.javaranch.com/maha
Goto the Mock Exams section. There is a table with links to free and paid Mock exams

Even the resources here is very good. They are also rated by users.
This is one of the best sites I have visited to prepare for the SJCP exam.

  • Certification books for 10g

Please recommend the book for 10g both for OCA and OCP. I have seen that there are books from Sybex and Oracle Press. If you happened to know both of them, please recommend which one is better to use for preparation. OCA (1Z0-042) can be different publisher from OCP (1Z0-043). Thanks very much for your advice.

True, but at least this was on a thread for someone actually requesting info on cert books.
I've seen some weird threads on the OEM board where the thread is started by guys advertising brain dumps....

  • Books for weblogic portal certification exam.

    Hi,
I am planning to give Weblogic portal 10g certification exam.
Can any body please suggest me the books this certification.

I was one of the first people to take this test when I worked at BEA on Portal. It's an exercise in WLP trivia. Memorize every menu in Workshiop as well as all of the NetUI stuff related to Portal like placeholders, content management, etc. The WLP class material helps a lot. However, if you don't have access to this info, then study the Beehive stuff. MEMORIZE all of the tag arguments.

  • Best books for a beginner.

I am in a Java class right now, and the material as it has been presented has been very confusing. I really want to get a good understanding of Java, my question is: What are the best books for someone that is starting to learn Java? I was looking through different reviews of Java books, and Just Java 2 by Peter van der Linden sounds good, but I want the book to explain Java in the simplest form as possible.
If I could get some more recommendations I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Head First Java is wonderful, but I wouldn't use that book on its own. It's a lot of theory, but very few examples and no programming exercises. Some books tell you how to do something, but they don't tell you why it works, so you end up unable to program anything that isn't exactly like what they showed you. Head First Java really gets into the why and it's great for making you think like a programmer, especially if the object-oriented thinking isn't coming naturally. But you need a book that has more of a tutorial format in addition to Head First.

  • Suggest a good book for learning?

    Hey, all.
Trying to get into the automating/scripting thing as I've started a new job that has to do a lot of versions of similar animations/illustrations. I'm no programmer, but have had some success with simple AppleScripts in Illustrator and Photoshop, but After Effects doesn't like to play nice with AS. So I figure I may as well focus my efforts on ExtendScript/JavaScript to work with all the apps, be cross-platform, plus help with my limited Expressions knowledge.
So can anyone suggest some good books for learning the JavaScript language? I've done online tutorials, which have helped a little, but just a big ol' consolidated JavaScript book, teaching the structure and syntax from the beginning (again, not a programmer by trade) would be best for me. Thing is, 95% of the books I've looked at are focused on web design, which I'm not that interested in. I'll use one if the core JavaScript teachings are well-presented and I can just ignore the web stuff; just don't want to buy a book that I'm only going to read half of and not learn everything I need to.
All suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Hi there - lots of resources...
Look up "eloquent javascript" online for a pdf.
    Javascript - The Definitive guide
    NewThinkTank on youtube
    Codeacademy
Then it's the scripting guide for the other half.

  • Good book for 1Z0-052???

Greetings. I've often used Sybex books for passing technical exams, but it would appear as though they dont have a book for this particular exam. Can anyone recommend one?

    ChrisRDBA wrote:
Have you been through this book?yes.
Any good/ bad to report?Amazon is also good to look at for reviews but I dont always buy from them.
The bonus test on the CD can be dog to get access to.
Threre's probably a cuple of mistakes also ... but its not the worst in this regard.
May not go into same depth as Sybex on a couple of items; but Sybex goes a little over the top sometimes.
....Become aware of [www.oracle.com/education/certification] and locate you certifcation and exam there and check occasionally for updates; the exam will be reveriifed for 11gR2 at some point in a few months and their may be updates then (the book wont be updated).
    Read [http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/05/the_route_you_choose.html]
The book may focus a little too much on the exam and not enough on practice. You really need to get in lots of real practice.
Make sure you can access the original online documentation as well: [http://docs.oracle.com]

  • Good book for OCA

Can anyone suggest good book for Oracle Application Server OCA

I can tell you from personal experience that it is extraordinarily difficult to write a technical book with zero defects. Spell-checkers and grammar checkers produce huge numbers of false positives when looking for standard (i.e. non technical) errors. Technical errors are easy to introduce -- forget to add a 'Not' in a sentence, or something similar -- and hard to detect afterward. When I read through my study guides looking for errors, I tend to see what I meant to write.
That said, such defects are normally a tiny fraction of the information contained within certification manuals. A couple of reviews on the Oracle Press 1Z0-052 book written by John Watson mention a couple of errors and then imply the book is filled with more. I've read the book and it is very informative. It contains hundreds of pieces of information and contains about ten errors -- all mentioned in the errata on the McGraw Hill site. The books is good preparation for the text and for learning the basics of being an Oracle DBA.
As Aman indicated, using more than one source is a good way to help to detect inaccuracies. I believe in always using multiple sources and the documentation is generally a good option for that.
