Book from pdf

How can I make a book of pdf files which consist of text and photos? When I tried to import them to iPhoto 5, they were refused. Is there a workaround?
Milan

Milan:
There is a way to get a page of text into iPhoto. Open your word processor of choice and set the page up for landscape (works better than portrait). Then format the page as you want, text, margins (about 1 inch all around), and enter your text. Then print to PDF.
Open the PDF file and do a Save As using the jpg format. Now you can import that jpg into iPhoto and use it in a book theme that has a full one picture per page layout. Here are two examples: Landscape and Portrait. You may have to tinker with the layout, font, etc. to make sure you get what you want.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Re-importing a lost book from pdf

    Hello.
About 2 years ago the mover dropped my iMac and pooched my drive. After a new drive was installed I was able to recover all my photo's but never any of the projects (Calendars, Books etc.) Now I wish to reprint a book I made, but no longer have it. I do however have the PDF. Is it possible to import the pdf, as or into a book, and still have the text editable. Or am I making a new book, and typing everything out again?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you can't find someone who can print the pdf into a book you might try the following:
1 - open the pdf file file and start a print job. I
2 - n the Print window click on the PDF button.
3 - select Save PDF to iPhoto option.
This will make a 200 dpi jpg image of each page in the pdf file and import it into an iPhoto album. Immediately rename the pages by the Batch Change menu option to Page -1, Page -2, etc. so in case they get rearranged you can easily reorder them.
Now create a new book and for each page select the layout that has a photo for the page background.
Adding a jpg to each page will completely fill the page. It might work well enough.
If you want to obtain 300 dpi jpgs of each pdf page download this Automator workflow, Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow, from Toad's Cellar and place it in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder. That will show up in the PDF menu I mentioned above. This might offer a littler better resolution for the printing. Then you can reorder from Apple. To avoid this in the future see Old Toad's Tutorial #9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7/8 Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date.
If you have someone print the PDF file, like FedEx Kinkos, they may not be able to bind the book with hard covers. You'll just need to shop around.

  • Flippable E-book from PDF document

Can someone give me simple instructions on how to convert a PDF document (created from MS Word) into a flippable e-book i.e. with the transition that looks like a turning page?  Can it even be done in Acrobat XI Pro?

Thanks, Bernd - at least I can stop torturing myself now!

  • Reorder of book from PDF format

I need to reorder a book that has already been published, but only have a copy in the PDF file format on DVD. how can I get Apple to publish from this disk and format?
    Thanks

    Dr. A:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There used to be a way you could fool iPhoto into using an old pdf file in place of the one it creates for printing but iPhoto 6 has eliminated that possibility. Also I've been told that myPublisher now requires you to use their plugin to order direct from iPhoto instead of uploading a pdf for them to print. It doesn't work for V5 so you might contact them to see if they will do it for a V5 user (a little stretching of the truth).
Here's a hint on how to save them for future printing:
1 - create a separate library for creating books.
2 - in your full library put the photos for the book in an album.
3 - using iPhoto Library Manager, copy that album from the full library to the book library. You can also use it to add photos later if deemed necessary.
4 - create and order the book.
5 - when done, burn the entire book library folder to a CD for storage.
Then if you need a new book, copy the library folder back from the CD, open it and order another book.

  • Save Book from PDF to Jpegs

I'm sending books to a non-apple printer., and rather than PDF, they need jpegs of the spreads.
I did this before by choosing Print > PDF > Save PDF to folder as Jpegs.
One could doctor the automator scripts in PDF services to produce a 300 dpi Jpeg
This does't seem to work under Snow Leopard
Part of the automator sequence doesn't work.
I get messages "The behaviour of this workflow may have changed....
The workflow was saved with an older version of the action Rename Finder Items
The workflow was saved with an older version of the action Copy Finder Items
The workflow was saved with an older version of the action Move Finder Items
The workflow was saved with an older version of the action Move Finder Items to Trash"
Then "The item "Retrieve Disk Item References" countered an error..."
How can I get it to work without opening each individual page in Photoshop?

  • How to create PDF of only book from entire IBA file?

How do I extract a PDF of ONLY the completed book from an unencrypted IBA file (which contains all related materials and is 568 MBs). Existing conversion to PDF methods convert the entire file. Thanks, Cora

For clarity, when referring to the "actual book" versus the "entire iBA file", do you mean
    (a) actual book: text only
    (b) entire iBA file: resources other than text (eg images, videos)
When creating a PDF from any kind of document (iBA, Word, etc) you generally get two main options.
    1. To create a PDF from all pages in the file, which of course includes all text, images, videos, audio etc
    2. To print to PDF, which allows you to specify pages. Obviously if the pages you specify also contain images and video for example, they'll come across in the PDF created too. There's no way around that. Images look great. Video just a black area on the page usually - it's static in PDF form afterall :)
You mention that earlier PDF versions of your book are more in keeping of what you want. My first thought when reading this was that your book now has more resources added to it than earlier stages of development, as one would expect!
I would suggest trying to be precise in your descriptions of exactly what you want to be included in a PDF copy of a file created in iBA rather than just repeating generic terms in successive posts.
    Hope that helps! :)

  • Importing iPhoto books back from pdf files

I saved my book on a cd in pdf. I want to put it back into iphoto to print more books - iphoto said it couldn't read the format. How do I do this?

    sjrb:
You can't back engineer a book from the pdf file. You might however do a Print to PDF and select the Send PDF to iPhoto option. That will give you jpg files for each page of the pdf. You might be able to create a book with all pages in a 1 photo per page layout and use those jpgs of each page. It won't be as good as the original but may be acceptable.
The pdf conversion process produces jpgs that are 2200 x 1700 x 200 dpi which do not give a low quality warning when put a 1 photo/page layout. You'll have trouble with the cover and will have to find the photo for it and redo it with a photo. Worth a try.
If I may offer a suggestion. In the future create a separate library for the book, add the picture you want in the book to an album in the original library. Then use iPhoto Library Manager to transfer that album to the book library and any more photos as you go along. When you're done you can burn that book library folder to a CD using the Finder to archive that book. If you want to order another book at a later day, copy that library folder back to the desktop, open it iPhoto and order another exact copy. Delete the folder when done.

  • How can I download books as PDFs from Google Books ?

I used to be able to download books as PDFs from Google Books (Full View) until about 12 months ago. However, now when I click the PDF link, I get a dialog box that says "You have selected a PDF file (12 Kb), and it offers me options for download or opening. It's the Nitro PDF tool. If I do download a file it's always 12 Kb and it's not a valid PDF file. Most of the books, I'm looking at should be over 10 Mb, and all previously downloaded books were over 5 Mb.
I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 3.5.19, and PDF Download from NitroPDF.
Is there an add-on that will give me back the ability to download files ?
or is there a conflict with something else that is preventing PDF Download from working ?
I can't see anything on NitroPDF's site about the add-on.

    Uninstall/Disable NitroPDF.

  • Where do you put PDF books from iMac into iPad?

How do you copy  PDF books from an iMac to an iPad?
I assume you open the iPad on the iMac's desktop and drop the books into the appropriate older  .  .  .  .  but what is that folder? (I'm enquiring for someone else, hence I don't know what they will be seeing).

You can sync them via your Mac's iTunes, the iPad won't mount as a drive on a Mac - an iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be stored within an app.
If you want to sync them to the iBooks app on your iPad then you can add PDFs to your Mac's iTunes via File > Add To Library (they will go into the Books part of your library), and you can then sync them by connecting the iPad to your Mac and selecting it on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your Mac then you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S), and the using the Books tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select and sync them.
If you want them in a different app then how you get it there will depend upon what the app supports e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • HT4059 Can EPub or other Adobe PDF books from libraries be downloaded onto the ipad?

Wondering if you can borrow libary books in EPUB or other Adobe ebook formats for the (mini) ipad?

    heres a tip:
    iBooks
You can download the free iBooks app from the App Store. You are able to get all types of books from the built-in iBookstore, download it and display it on your bookshelf.
    you need an Internet
Connection and an Apple account to download this app- go to Settings > Store
    Syncing Books and PDFs
Use iTunes to sync your books and PDFs between iPhone and your computer. you can sync books that you download or purchase from the iBookstore.
    You can also add
DRM-free ePub books and PDFs to your iTunes library. There are several websites
    that offer
books in ePub and PDF format:
To Sync an ePub book or PDF to iPhone: Download the book or PDF using your
    computer. Then,
in iTunes, choose File > Add to Library and select the file. Connect iPhone to
    your computer,
select the book or PDF in the Books pane in iTunes, and then sync iPhone
If a PDF doesn’t appear in the Books pane, you need to change its type in iTunes
Search your iTunes library to find the PDF, select it, then choose File > Get Info. In the Options section of
the file information window, choose Book from the Media Kind pop-up menu, then click OK.
Ok substitute the word iPhone for iPad

  • I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though, itunes automatically putting books on my idevices

I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though I did not want this. I added them to itunes using add to library and I have both devices set to sync only selected books.
How do I do this in the future so this doesnt happen? Its a lot of work to now manually erase them from each device and it sent my phone over capacity.
    thanks

I dont see the difference in the posts. I dont think theres anything inaccurate or misleading about what I wrote. The items were immediately added to my ipad and my iphone, even though I have them both set to sync only select items. As soon as I added new titles to my itunes library, they were immediately added to the devices. Not on the next sync. Immediately. Both devices were plugged into the computer at the time. Sorry if I failed to mention they were plugged in but I dont see the signifigance youre making out of it. The problem persists anyway.
Now that I did a test without the devices plugged in, the new items were still added as soon as I plugged my devices into the computer ( I do not have them set to sync over wifi).
Since I have both devices set to manually select items to sync, of course I want to manually select new items to sync. For instance, I am not going to read any of these magazines or books on my phone, ever, and I dont want to waste valuable space with them.
    So I'm trying your advice:
I just tried deselecting sync books. It erased all content from ibooks on my device. I then dragged
one title onto the device, and it just goes back to syncing select books, with the one title selected.
It appears that wont work to solve my issue. The next time I add something to itunes it will be put on my phone. Is this really something most people want? To select to manualy control what content is synced, but then have things automatically added. It seems inconsistent to me.

  • How do I print a book from book creator on the ipad?

I have created a book on the ipad using book creator.  I do not have an apple computer, I have only got the ipad.  I cannot email the book as it has too much memory.  I have exported it to itunes as pdf.  Can I get it printed in the apple store from pdf in itunes?

Once you've exported the book to iTunes as a PDF, connect your iPad to your PC/Mac and open iTunes.
In iTunes, click on your iPad from the top toolbar and go to Apps.
Scroll down to the section which says File Sharing, and click on Book Creator. You'll now see a list of Book Creator documents which should include the PDF you exported.
If you right-click on the PDF you can save it to your desktop, ready to send to a printing service.

  • Combining documents with multiple layouts into a single book for pdf export

I have made a series of documents that feature 3 different layouts, however I would like to connect all these documents into a book and then export 1 layout style from each document into a pdf to form a book. However when I go to the export book as pdf the option to select pages or ranges is greyed out and not clickable for some reason, does anyone know of another way to get around this short of exporting each individual document layout and then merging them as a pdf?

You need to set up the book to contain precisely what you want to export.
However, it is basically better to export single documents and merging them later as PDF, regarding colour spaces, page numbering, paragraph styles, page formats etc.

  • How to publish a BOOK from iWeb blog

During 2011 I kept a Blog in iWeb on me.com when my little 7 year old daughter was suffering from liver cancer. the Blog was read and commented by many people. I have been her Living Donor for the liver, and so far she is a "survivor" with sparks in her eys that represent "life".
We have had a lot of support from people that are close to us and I want to thank them all by "publishing" a book from the blog. I kept it on my Macbook wich also still has iWeb on it. I a 'just a user' and not a freak, so I do not have a clue if this is possible to do or just Wishfull thinking. I presume you can never get back to me.com, so the ' web counter' as well as 'feed back' might have been lost, but I sure want to publish this blog in a book. It would be a great gift to thos who supported us and other people that go through this as well, as well as for my little girl Joy, so when she is older she knows what she has been going throug. Is there anyone that could support in the steps I need to undertake to get this done?

To give you an idea what is possible, I used Chrome on my iPad and printed a webpage as pdf to Google Drive with Google Cloudprinter.
    This is the webpage :

    This is the result :

  • Save as PDF or Save Book As (pdf format) Causes Frame 8 to try to quit after creating PDF

I have Framemaker 8p273 and Acrobat distiller 8.1.3.
When trying to creating PDFs from books using either Save as PDF OR Save Books As (PDF) file, the PDF creates FINE but the program then attempts to quit by throwing up weird dialog boxes.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1.Open any book
2.Use File-->Save as PDF or File-->Save Books As and then choose type PDF
3.PDF created fine - no errors reported in Distiller window
    4. Framemaker then throws up a small dialog box that says "cannot quit." You cannot close this box, only click OKAY.
The only other issue that arises might be a "cannot print some graphics - will print as gray boxes"
    5. Clicking okay brings up sequence of 5 total of the same boxes (the book file has 7 files in it including the TOC).
    6. After last of 5 "cannot quit" boxes, a new Framemaker one appears, that says "Unsaved Changes in file (book name) Save before closing?" Options are Yes, No and Cancel. Yes saves file and quite Frame. No quits Frame. Cancel leaves file open.
I have reproduced this error multiple times with different books, using both the Save as PDF and Save Book As (PDF) commands.
File--Print Book using Acrobat printer works fine (making sure to enable the acrobat setting so bookmarks are properly generated).
Just frustrated that the first two options cause such an annoying error. Reported as a bug.

    Jaclyn,
I've seen this happen when an API client attempts to close a document that doesn't exist, which defaults to closing the FrameMaker session, but the session cannot close because it's in the middle of some operation. It's normally the result of sloppy code. Do you have any third-party API plugin software running? For that matter, does anyone know if the "Save as PDF" uses an API client? If so, might be a bug in that software, although it seems that there must be something unique going on here to invoke this behavior in your case.
