Book Module not exporting to jpg

I am trying to export a 80 page book to jpg at quality 60, 75 dpi so that I can consult with someone about the layout. The module will only export the cover and the first 4 pages. Any suggestions on what to do?
Billie

I would just delete the above issue but I thought the resolution might be helpful to someone else. In looking back at my pages, I found a little red dot at the bottom right hand side  of the photo window on page 5. I couldn't find out what it meant but I removed the page and started over with a new page. That eliminated the red dot and I could then export the total jpg file.

  • Why does book module not export ?

Lightroom’s Book Module may crash on export to pdf and Blurb.
This is not a new topic, I know, but a frustratingly regular one. As it has happened to me on several occasions with several books I offer advice but would like to be given some too. Please don’t anyone say I shouldn’t expect the module to handle text as well as InDesign – this problem is a basic instability within the software, or so I believe. There is no obvious reason for the export to get almost to the end and then crash and there is no dialogue box that says what’s wrong with the book. When the report dialogue box appears, there is never any useful response.
I recommend, and will follow my own advice religiously from now on:
    1.  At the end of every day working with a Lightroom book, export to pdf to check it’s working.
    2.  Always, when doing anything with Lightroom, quit Lightroom and back up the catalogue at the end of the day.
    3.  If you’ve are doing a lot of work in a session, quit Lightroom from time to time and back up the catalogue more frequently than in 1 & 2 above.
    4.  If Lightroom should crash unexpectedly, don’t just carry on after re-opening it. It is quite likely that a book’s data has been compromised, so try to export it to pdf to check. If that fails, re-open a previous back-up and re-do your lost work.
    5.  If you have not been doing regular checks and back-ups, and there was an unannounced problem at some earlier stage, the danger that arises is that your catalogue has developed photos and structure that will be lost if you have to return to an early back-up to regain control of the book export function. It is very hard work, but occasionally possible, to discover what the problem with the export is and change the page with the problem. Don't bank on that.
I am going to take the opportunity in the next couple of days to start restructuring a 120 page book that no longer exports. I'll re-type it all from scratch. I couldn’t possibly, reliably, carry on in any other way. If you think it would be possible to avoid this labour, plese let me know how.

If you do file >> export in CS6 you should see tif here and these settings
The plug in that creates these is here
    /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS6/Plug-ins.localized/Illustrator Formats.localized/TIFF.aip/
Your plug in may be damaged, or a setting that works with this. Try resetting the illustrator preferences as this fixes many items.

  • Can someone please help me getting my book pages to export as jpg's?

I have a book created (LR4) and cannot get the pages to export as jpg's. I hit the "export book to jpg" button and nothing happens. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am using a Macbook. Any idea's or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you Dorin for your reply. I am using LR4.2...
If you have any other thoughts of how to fix the issue, I would be most grateful.

  • Book Module Export PDF Quality Poor - any solutions?

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out a solid solution / workflow for making PDF porfolio's for clients.
The commercial studio where I work needs to send pdf portfolio's to potential clients quite often.
So far we have not been able to find a perfect solution on how to do this with any adobe product (including ACROBAT!)
one of 2 things seem to continually happen.
    1. Gigantic file sizes for decent quality PDF's (75 mb +)
    2. Horrible color shifts and degraded picture quality for usably sized (3-7mb) portfolio's.
I was hopeful that the new Book Module in LR4 would solve this issue.
admitedly the quality is better IF I save it at jpeg quality 100 and a dpi of 240 but this resulted in a 74 MB file (for 31 images on a 8x10 page)
I clearly can not send a file that large with email....
as soon as I make the dpi or jpeg quality lower they look like total garbage...
Further more the colors shift greatly (on the lower res versions) when opened in something other then Acrobat reader (ie Mac Preview)
Could someone please share a workflow that will result in profesional quality PDF's at a screen resolution.
    We have / use the CS5 suite / LR4 / Acrobat Pro
In short as a PRO studio I want PRO quality our of my PRO software...
I would like to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible.
and if at all possible do it all within LR4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Thanks, I haven't used the LR4 Book module that much and only saw the 'Export Book to PDF' button at the left-bottom of the screen. I tried a Book module 'PDF' Export using 7x7 size, Quality 80, sRGB, 150 dpi, and Standard Glossy sharpening. Here are the results:
    1) PDF file size = 3.3 MB
    2) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 3.2 MB
I next tried the 'Export Book to PDF' button:
    3) PDF file size = 4.8 MB
    4) Standard Optimized PDF (Acrobat 9 compatibility) = 975 KB
When viewed on my 25" 1920 x1080 monitor on Windows 7 64bit in Acrobat 9 Pro at 'Fit to Page' zoom size all four PDF files look identical in color and sharpness. When viewed in 'Full Screen' mode only the largest file size PDF (#3 above) created using the 'Export Book to PDF' button exhibits good sharpness. This is probably due to the size of the exported JPEG image having insufficient resolution to fill the screen at 100% (1:1 pixel mapping):
    7" x 7" Book at 150 dpi = 6.88" x 150 = 1032x 1032 (Mapped to my 1920 x 1080 monitor)
    Requires 1080/6.88" = 157 dpi minimum
    7" x 7" Book at 170dpi = 6.88” x 170= 1170 x 1170 (Mapped to your 2560 x 1440 monitor)
    Requires 1440/6.88" = 210 dpi minimum
I next created a Book PDF file (3.7 MB) with the above calculated 157 dpi for my 1920 x1080 monitor viewing in Full Screen mode. The results are as sharp as the full-size ‘Export Book to PDF’ file (4.8 MB). I then tried a PDF optimization of the 4.8 MB file using Acrobat Optimization downsample setting of 157 dpi for images above 235 dpi and obtained an equally sharp file 1.0 MB in size. So this method still seems to produce a smaller file than obtainable direct from the LR Book module.
For your NEC MultiSync PA271w monitor with higher 2560 x1440 resolution try using 210 dpi, 80 quality and Standard Glossy Sharpening. When I used Matte High settings the image was clearly over-sharpened for screen viewing. Next try the ‘Export to PDF’ button and then ‘PDF Optimization’ in Acrobat Pro using 210 dpi downsample setting. It shouldn’t hurt to go slightly higher in dpi, but you don’t want to go lower than ‘Full Screen’ 1:1 pixel mapping.

  • Font smoothing in the Book module

    Hi everyone,
I use the Book module and export the resulting pages to jpeg files. Any text (text field, page caption, photo caption) is rasterized when zooming to 1:1 on the exported jpeg file. The pattern on the font edges is sharp without any smoothing (only black or white pixels, no shades on edges). In the printed pictures one can still see this pattern, it is really ugly.
I never saw this when usig photoshop or any of those simple online programs for preparing photobooks.
In the "Book Settings" I set the same resolution as I use for printing by Blurb-like printing companies, e.g., 400ppi/dpi.
Of course, the "solution" would be to set much higher ppi in the "Book Settings". But then propably the export sharpening does not work properly.
Do you observe the same behavior? How do you solve it?
    Thanks a lot!

    Yes, same here.

  • Unable to Publish from Book Module LR-4.2 to Blurb

    Windows 7
    Adobe CS5
    Lightroom 4.2
Have not been able to publish to Blurb after creating a book in the Book Module
All images are jpegs and of sufficient resolution to be printed.
Variety of Error messages have occurred.  Sometimes the message identifies a specific digital image.
Once at least there was no evidence that an image with the name and number given was in my file.
    Using internal hard drives.
Have tried working with Tech from Adobe.
Earlier was also having trouble converting Book Module images to PDF, but for unknown reasons
it worked, but the same file could not be published to Blurb.

I would consider it more simple to copy the images on portable storage space and plug that into the computer you will use for book creating.
First you should go for LR4.3RC, as a heinous bug in book module has been fixed, which is still present in LR4.2 (book being empty all of a sudden).
If you still prefer to work on 2 computers on 1 book: export the saved book=a collection of type book as catalog, including previews and negatives.
Import this partial catalog on the 2nd machine (Import from Another Catalog), because thus collection membership travels along from one catalog to the other.
Then select it and switch to book module.
Export as catalog before you switch computers again.

  • Change cell size in book module

I would like to change the cell size in the book module, not altering the cell padding which just adjusts the size of the photo within the cell, I want to edit the actual cell.  Is this possible?

I believe that Cell Size is fixed for any of the template pages in LR.
However if you choose the "Full Page" template, you can unlink the "padding" sliders to size and position a cell where you wish, along with zooming the image size. But limited to only one image on the page!

  • I would like to be able to enter my own page sizes to use in the Book Module, rather than choosing defaults from the drop-down. Is it possible to do this?

I would like to be able to enter my own page sizes to use in the Book Module (to export to 3rd party printers), rather than choosing defaults from the drop-down. Is it possible to do this?

No. You are limited to the choices within the Lightroom Book module.

  • Book Module Export To JPEG Does Not Apply Sharpening

I'm running LR4.1 on Windows 7 64 bit with 5D MK ii raw images and just discovered the Book module 'Export Book to JPEG' produces files that do not have output sharpening applied.
    Book = JPEG
    Size = Standard Landscape
    Cover = Hardcover Image Wrap
    JPEG Quality = 90
    File Resolution = 300 ppi
Sharpening = (Every setting produces the same results)
Media Type = (Every setting produces the same results)
When selecting 'Book = PDF' the sharpening is very obvious and is applied as expected based on the Sharpening setting:
    Glossy Low = least sharpening
    Matte High = most sharpening
Maybe I'm doing something wrong since I can't find a single post in the LR forums where this has been raised, but maybe not!
Can anyone help out or verify?

Are we looking at printed or screen proofs here?
Not that I have an answer for you but sharpening might not be visible on screen if that is what you are comparing. Sharpening for print should differ for print processes from sharpening for screen. The 'print' sharpening, presumably for inkjet although it should be for offset, will be related to final image size, so viewing on screen at a potentially different size and resolution might be obscuring what would occur in a printing process.
    I can't verify since I am still using LR3.6.

  • Book Module-Export saved book from collections--Book is not there?

LR6. I have been working on a book and had to travel and wanted to finish the book while on the road. I saved the book which put it in the collection I was working on. Exported the collection onto a portable disk. However, when I loaded it on my laptop, the book is not there????? The images are there, but NO BOOK. Do I have to start over.

  • Unable to export from the Book Module in LR-4.4 to Blurb, PDF and JPEG

I have made a book in the book module and was really looking forward to send it to Blurb for printing. I push the "Send book to Blurb... " button but nothing happens. I have tried to export to PDF and JPEG aswell, but nothing. I am Connected to internet, I have an account at Blurb but no reaction. Are there any settings I have missed or are there any bugs that prevents me from exporting? Do Blurb ship to Norway or is that the problem? Please help!!!

When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

  • Book Module: Export to PDF and Blurb stops with error at two page spread

I have a 66 page book created in the book module..
When exporting to PDF the export stops with the error:
"An error occurred while saving the book.
There was an error creating the PDF file. "
The same occurs (at the same book page) when exporting to BLURB
"An error occurred while creating the book."
The creation or export always stops at the same page which is a two page spread. Interestingly there is a two-page spread before that didn't throw an error. I tried to move the problem page to the end of the book. That didn't help because the next two page spread in the book throws an error.
    Any ideas or help?
    Lightroom version: 4.0
Computer: Windows 7, Quadcore, 8 GB RAM

Hi, sorry I do not have a solution but I too have a very similar issue in that the book is the same size but the export to PDF does not start at all
I have tried reducing the image dpi settings. Jpg quality and still nothing
The only success I have had is if I duplicate the book, delete all but 8 pages and then export at full dpi settings of 300 and 100 percent jpg quality
    Any more pages and nothing
It's a great tool and would buy it if this feature actually worked. Oh yeah I only have the trial version at the minute to give it a good thorough test
I have looked for solutions but like your query they are all unanswered
Does adobe actually offer any support or is this all user solutions?
Did you find a solution by the way?

  • Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module

Lightroom stalls on trying to export from the book module to either PDF or Blurb. Progress bar at the top left just shows "Exporting book...rendering cover.untitled DNG". I have even tried a single page low resolution book but no difference. This happened in Lightroom 4 and still after upgrading to Lightroom 5. I have tried I have tried also unchecking all the background options.

  • LR 5: Exporting books does not work

    Hi everyone.
The last 2 weeks I spent creating a photobook (30x30cm), 100 pages. To have a faster start, I've duplicated a book project that was created with Lightroom 4 and edited this.
Unfortunately I cannot export the new book. Neither as PDF (tried several settings) or JPG, nor can I upload it to Blurb directly. Whenever I press any of the available "Export to PDF" or "Upload to Blurb" Buttons, simply NOTHING happens. No activity bar in the top left corner, no "Please wait" or whatsoever window. Simply no response from the software. I can continue working with Lightroom, the speed is the same (which means no background process like image conversion) has been started.
To reproduce the error, I've created a new book with LR 5 quickly. "+" Button in Collections > "Create new book" > added 20 pages, filled them randomly with photos (that have been part of the old book projects, too)
"Export to PDF" > A new window opens, where to save the PDF. Perfect. Works as desired.
"Upload to Blurb" > "Buy the book" windows opens, where i have to enter my Blurb Username and Password. Correct behaviour.
Back to the formerly created book (the LR4 duplicate). Same error: No response.
I let LR5 create all necessary 1:1 previews, again > Nothing. Exited Lightroom and restarted it > Same problem. Restarted Windows and Lightroom > No export of the book.
This happens to all my book projects that were created using Lightroom 4 and below.
OS: Windows 7, 64 bit (all updates)
Lightroom 5, 64 bit (including the new "ui.dll" file to prevent random crashes issue in Library Module), no active Plug-ins
    PC: I-7 3930 K (Socket 2011), 32 GB RAM, Geforce GTX 570
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks, Christian

    Update:
It seems that corrupt Background graphics (maybe missing BG-photo, ooutdated background template) was the reason for the unability to export the book. Although I've never been given any warnings...
As a workaround I've set a global background to "None" (uncheck every option, just "Global Background" checked).
The book exports now. I'll find the "guilty" page that caused the fault.
