Book pdf file

Does anyone know if once you send off a book to be ordered (and only order one) can you buy more books without having to send the book off again? I know they have a pdf file of the book once it gets where its going to be printed. Can they use that pdf file to print more books so you don't have to send it off again.
I've done a few books in the past but have only ever ordered one book.
I plan on ordering a soft bound book this time to make sure it is all right when I get it. I've run into some printing problems with the other books I've ordered. I need to make sure this one is correct before I order more.
Hope someone has an answer for me.
thanks
Mr. Lucy

No, as of now we have to reassemble the book and re-submit. There's a method that might work but I don't know as I've never tried it. When you order your first book, find and make a copy of the pdf file that iPhoto creates for uploading and printing. Then when you need to get another copy, make a phony book (doesn't even need photos in it) of the same number of pages, theme, size and cover. Then start the ordering process and pause just after the book has been assembled, find the new pdf file, copy it's name to your old pdf file and replace the new one with the renamed old one. Then continue with the ordering process. i've recommended this to others but have not seen any posts back. In theory is sounds good.
Here's how you find the pdf file:
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
3 - copy the following, “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto” (for Panther the path is ‘/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto “), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.
The preceeding was developed on Tiger but should work with Panther.

  • How do I get my book/pdf files into and out of iBooks?

There was a time when I my iBooks App appeared under the shared files section of my iPad app list, and when it did I could get my books/pdfs from my ibook App to my iTunes on my PC and vice-versa.  But iBooks no longer appears in that list so I can't transfer new books/pdf files to read on my iPad.  The iBook App is still on my iPad with all the old Books and FTP files, it just does not show up under the list of apps whose files can be shared. What must I do to get that functionaity back?

Okay Chris, thanks.  I may have misremembered getting the other pdfs via the shared conduit.  I may have dragged them from my PC -- it's been a long time since I used this system.
One more thing.  Somewhere along the things I was doing recently I asked to sync the Books.  It was then that I received a message that more than one library was synced to this iPad!  It asked whether I wanted to erase this iPad and sync with the current iTunes library!  I did change my Apple password a few days ago -- could that explain it?  It could explain why only some of my books are visible in iTunes.  But I don;t want to erase my current iPad!
I think I will exit and go back in again afresh.

  • PDF table of contents spanning multiple PDF files - is it possible?

    Question for Acrobat Experts:
Question 1:  Is it possible for a PDF file to contain a "left-hand-side" index/table of contents that includes the contents from itself AND other PDF files?
I have a set of documentation in 10 separate pdf "books". However, I want users to be able to see the table of contents for all 10 books, even if they only have one book.  Also, if they click a topic from another book, that other book (pdf file) should open.
Is that possible to do using Acrobat? (and if so, which version?)
Question 2:  Is there a way for the all-encompasing Table of Contents to be generated real-time and always be accurate, (even if the user gets a new version of one of the "books", but not the others?)
We want to be able to slip-stream one book at a time to end-users, but have the TOC be accurate at all times.. Not sure if PDF files can do this. I believe CHM files can.
    Thank you!

    Question 1: Yes.

  • Doesn't open the PDF file (i.e. articles, books pages). It appears a black page. Thanks for help

Safari doesn't open the PDF file (articles, book page, etc). It appears a black page. Before that it was working perfectly. Thank for your help

    Try this ...
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin (or anything Adobe related) in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

    Hi jybravo70,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you may be experiencing issues on your non iOS 8 devices because iOS 8 is required to set up or join a Family Sharing group.
The following information is located in the print at the bottom of the article.
Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email? So that the user can print it out.

Is there any way to embed the pdf file in the book created in iBooks Author to make it available to be downloaded or sent to email?
I'm making the book for children and there is one chapter providing coloring pages. So I wish to attach pdf files that allow users to download it at the end of chapter so that  they can print it out. Been searching through discussion, I've found some advice about taking screen snapshot page-by-page > then send the pics from photo album to email. However, I'm wondering if there's a way that make the process easier.

Warehouse that PDF on your own server, then link to it from your book.

  • Automatic generation of PDF file from briefing book in OBIEE11g

    Hi all,
Could anyone tell me if exist a way to generate PDF files from briefing books automatically in OBIEE11g?
    Thanks
    Annalisa

I only got so far when I tried to do this in Windows. The problem comes when you try to tell the printer to print to a file with a particular name.
The first steps are to get GhostWriter for Windows.
Then you install the Apple LaserWriter pro 600 driver which can print to a postscript file (try it manually first). GhostWriter can then, with a command line command, using a java Process, convert that to a .pdf file.

  • Unable to generate a PDF file for 1 of 3 books

I'm making three documents (books) in FrameMaker and then converting to PDF. The first two books generated to PDF with no "major" problems. There were a couple of glitches here and there but most were simply operator error. This forum solved two of my problems.
Now, with the third book, I can't generate the PDF and get error messages in the log file. I've gone back and triple checked everything and can't find a thing that's different between this last book and the first two. I've used the same templates and all of the paragraph formats and character formats are identical in all three documents.
I'm setting all of the PDF setup parameters the same. In the Adobe PDF setup, I've made certain that the "Rely on system fonts only..." check box is unchecked.
One of the error messages in the log file says,
%%[ Warning: LucidaSans cannot be embedded because of licensing restrictions. ]%%
%%[ Font vendor (B&H) does not permit this font to be embedded in PDF. ]%%
This would make sense if Lucida Sans font were only used in this one book. But it's used in the first two books as well and they generate as PDF with no problems. In fact, just to make sure, I went back and generated one of the first books over again and it worked perfectly.
The only significant (?) difference in the third book is that it is much larger than the first two. It runs to 150 pages while the first two are 45 pages and 70 pages. But I've worked with books as large as 450 pages in the past.
I've been creating the PDF documents by the FM Save as PDF feature. But because of this problem, I downloaded and installed a trial version of Acrobat X. Then printed to PS file, opened with Acrobat and tried to distill. Got the same results and the same error messages.
My experience with FrameMaker and Adobe in general is that error messages and indicated results may be cryptic and sometimes have absolutely nothing to do with the actual problem. In any event, I'm totally snowed by this one. (I really shouldn't pick on Adobe for that. Microsoft is much worse when it comes to vague and cryptic error messages!)
Sure wish I had a Mac right now. Or Linux. Or...

Thank you very much for the input. That makes perfect sense to me. The Lucida fonts are, indeed, all from Bigelow & Holmes (B&H). So that explains the difficulties I was encountering. Now, here’s where it gets a little weird.
I created the first two pdf files at work. I work about half of the time from home and was trying to create the pdf file yesterday at home. And that didn’t work. This morning, I loaded all of the files back into the computer in the office and tried again. No problem! Created a nice looking 162-page pdf file. Oh, I did say it got weird, didn’t I? Well, the computer at home and the one at work are both running the same version of Win 7 Pro, the same versions of FM10 and Acrobat X. And the Lucida fonts installed (probably the default set with Windows) are all B&H fonts. That’s right; the same on both computers.
Your input was very helpful because I might have continued spinning my wheels for another day or so on this thing. As it is, I’m considering the matter solved because I just won’t try to make pdf files from these three documents at home. The other alternative would be to use a different font. Umm, no, not at this time. All of the body paragraphs are Lucida Sans. What a task that would be! The other alternative, of course, is to spend a few bucks and by fonts for my home computer that have the proper licensing.
    Again, thanks!

  • Can Acrobat X Standard create PDF files from Microsoft Word, using "CMYK" color (required by most book printers) instead of "RGB" color?

I'd like to purchase Acrobat Standard if it will let me control the color space used in the PDF it creates.  I need to send a color file to a commercial book printer, and they require the PDF file to use CMYK colors, not RGB.
Will Acrobat Standard do this, and if so, how?  Or do I need to get a different Adobe product for this task?

  • PDF files to create a new book in iBooks Author

Is it wise to use ready PDF files to create a new book in iBooks Author?
I have a music book with lot's of images that whas previously published as a physical book. I have it all as ready PDF files with illustrations.
Should I copy paste all texts and images seperately into iBooks Author or could I just drag the complete PDF's into the iBooks program.
    Thanks!

To drag a page's contents means selecting just that page, which is just copy/paste with the result being an image.
Dragging a PDF into an iBA book means dragging the entire file, which is not the same as selective copy/paste and as noted, results in just an image.
It is possible to just do text /andor just do images, but success can depend on certain attributes they possess, etc. You need to select specific assets, then paste them in, then rework as needed.
PDF-to-iBA isn't neat - formatting, fonts, etc. will be lost. Find the original content that the PDF came from and try to work with it, instead - that will be much cleaner and require less rework, I think.

  • PDF files in Books, can we create Folders?

So I downloaded itunes 9.2 and noticed there was no PDF help in the help section.... figured out that you just drag PDF files to itunes and they automatically get placed in iBook.... now here's the thing I have huge collections of magazines in PDF format that I would love to stick onto my iPad once ios4 comes out but I noticed that each magazine takes up it's own icon and pushes off all my other book titles if it's a large collection... I'm hoping/guessing that you'll be able to create separate folders for these collections... can anybody using the beta version confirm this or anyone from the forum?

There are many pdf readers you can use to read such things on the iPad now, without waiting for ios4. Whether iBooks will be better at reading your pdfs than the current readers you will just have to test for yourself.
can anybody using the beta version
Beta testers are normally prohibited by non-disclosure agreements from answering such questions.

  • I use iTunes 11.1.3 and books is not listed in preferences.  I want to add a pdf file into ibooks.

Hello:   I use iTunes 11.1.3 and under preferences,  books is not listed as an option.  I am trying to
add a pdf file to ibooks.

Sorry, I was only able to get back to this issue today, but it worked.
Thank you again Michael for your help. It was as simple as just buyng a free book from the iTunes store to create a Books area, then I was able to drag and drop my 3rd party book there.
Still, I feel that there should already be a Books area in iTunes, but perhaps I am the only one who has updated iTunes on a computer without any previously purchased books on it from the iTunes store.

  • How do I open a pdf book cover file using Acrobat XI into Indesign CC?  Everytime I try, it says I am trying to open a file that has been saved wrong.

How do I open a pdf book cover file using Acrobat XI into Indesign CC?  Everytime I try, it says I am trying to open a file that has been saved wrong.

PDF files cannot be natively opened in InDesign. They can only be placed as graphics.

  • I need a .pdf file of 5 photos - NOT a BOOK

Maybe I'm dreaming here, thinking that surely there is a way to export a small selection of photos from iPhoto08 into a .pdf file...
That is the assignment for a photography class I'm taking: each week, bring in five photos, compiled into a .pdf file. But there doesn't seem to be anyway to do that with iPhoto08 short of creating a book, a calendar, or a card -- those can be saved as a .pdf.
But the book has to be at least 10 pages, and has all that 'book' -like page formatting. A calendar has all those dates, and a card is only one or two photos. So, that's not the solution.
I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 on my PC, and that makes it pretty easy to export a slide show to a .pdf file, but with iPhoto there's really no way to save a slide show as anything other than a Quicktime file.
So, am I missing something here, or did Apple just leave this feature out of iPhoto? Seems like a fairly common task, surely there must be someway... a plug-in maybe???
    --PS

    PS:
You can do a print to pdf for each photo and then use the application, Combine PDFs 2.1, to join them into one file. This way you select whatever size print to send to pdf, an 8x 10, 5x7 or what ever.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
