Book printing and paper orientation

Hi all,
I used to print DVD covers via custom book format for wedding DVDs. But since the last Aperture update it seems aperture does not print with the right orientation. Paper format is A4 portrait but the book page gets cut off because it printed landscape on the paper.
Any ideas?

As a work around I'm now printing the book nad save it as a PDF which I then print with "Preview". However, no one out there with this problem?
regards,
Swen

  • Why is there an "Aperture Book Printing and Design" section?

What is the point in having "Aperture Book Printing and Design" separate from 'everything else'?? Why? It something most people don't use anyway isn't it?

  • ETA or info on new book size and paper stock options, etc.

I don't know if printing services do or would coincide with product updates, and therefore we should expect these to come with a product update or not, but does anyone have any idea if there will ever be additional book sizes, paper stock and/or cover options for the books printed from Aperture?
I've printed four books from Aperture, and they make decent keepsakes, but I'd really like to step up to thicker paper stock and cover options like leather.
Is any of this in the works?
    Thanks,
    Brad

Yes I have dealt with and bought plenty from them -- yes they are very secret, hence, my question. It doesn't make it easy on someone trying to plan.
    Thanks,

  • How do I set the print and paper size in iPhoto 5

Can somebody please help. How do you set up iPhoto 5 so that you define both the the size of the print and the photo paper you use?
For example, I wish to print a 4.5cm x 3.5 cm photo on 6x4 (or 15cm x 10cm to keep all the units the same) paper.
I've seen a post saying how to do it in iPhoto 8, but the drop-downs are different.

I do not remember the locations in iPhoto 5 but there are probably three places to mess with
1 - set the paper size
2 - set the print size
3 - set the paper tray for the printer to use that has the paper size that you set in step 1
these may be in the print sequence or under the file menu as page set up (or similar). If these are not obvious try the Help menu

  • Book printing and sharpening

    Hello,
I am currently building my first Aperture book. I am wondering what level of sharpening I should apply to my images. Or does the book printing process automatically apply some level of sharpening ?
    Thanks for sharing your experience,
    Pierre

I LOVE my books the quality for cost ratio is amazing - especially after the last update.
In my experience it seems that aperture applies some sort of smart resizing / sharpening depending on how the image is sized.
When you click the order button - aperture will generate the book and let you view the PDF before you actually click Confirm and pay - so you can look at your PDF and save a copy off with preview and do your own printing if you want to see how its sharpened -
Again, my experience has been that both the color profile and image sharpness has been optimized for the printing service internally.

  • Printer and paper profiles

I use Photoshop CS on a Mac G4 (PPC) with OS X 10.4.11. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R340 inkjet with 6 colours.
I set out a couple of days ago to print a lot of greeting cards — A5 cards that fold to A6. The ones I got were matte ones, which I had never used before. I used the 'Print with preview' option with the following settings: Color Management / Document: Adobe RGB (1998) / Proof (not checked): U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2 / Intent: Relative Colorimetric / Black Point Compensation not checked.
Since I believe that my Epson SPR340 printer has the same colour characteristics as the SPR350, I chose a profile from the available Epson SPR350 profiles; namely MPHW (which is for heavy-weight matte paper). The results were terrible, with pale, washed-out colours. After hours of experimentation, during which I used up almost my entire stock of cards, I discovered that I could get good results (but with slightly overemphasised reds) with the same profile as the default proof profile (which, however, I have not checked), namely U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2,and even better results with the Epson Standard RGB – Gamma 1.8 profile.
I have now ordered a new supply of cards, but glossy ones, with which I have a little more experience, so I shall have to experiment some more, though these cards are supposed to be in the post in the next day or two in time to be delivered for Christmas. But I should be immensely grateful for any explanation or advice: why did the profile for my type of printer and matte paper, printing on matte cards, give such terrible results? What profile should I use for my new glossy cards? (My instinct would be to use the SPR350 profile PGPP, i.e. for premium glossy paper, but my experience with the matte cards has made me sceptical.) Any other information about profiles that anyone is able to offer?
    Thank you in anticipation.

Totally to be expected, Michael.  One can't do that, not even remotely!
The profile, if not custom made for your specific combination of paper, ink and printer, MUST be provided by the paper manufacturer for each specific printer model, and it will only be good for that particular printer, using the same ink on that particular paper.
    You can't "approximate".
Never buy a paper for which the vendor cannot supply you with a specific profile for your particular printer and ink.  It's that simple.

  • Book printing and web exporting from Aperture without .mac account

can I export web logs and have apple books made without a .mac account?

A .Mac account is not required to order iPhoto or Aperture books from Apple or to publish an Aperture gallery to the Internet; in the second case, you will need a webserver to put the gallery on.

i get this messager repeatedly while trying to order books, prints, and publish my photos via my .mac account. AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE CONFIRMING YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION. PLEASE CHECK YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION AND TRY AGAIN. i already checked time/date, my connection is fine, my computer is clean, what can this be?????

I am experiencing this same problem tonight. Did you resolve this problem? If so, how? This is the first time this has happened to me. I know it's not a problem with my account, because I am able to sync my iDisc, log into my .mac account on Safari, etc. The problem seems to be limited to iPhoto.

  • IPhoto, Colorsync and Custom Printer and display profiles

I am attempting to understand the way that iPhoto 6 handles/uses custom ICC profiles that have been set in System Prefs>Monitors>Color, and in Utilities>ColorSync Utility>Devices>Printers.
In short, my monitor and printer have both been custom profiled, (Using System Preferences>Monitors>Color, I've set my custom monitor profile. Using the ColorSync utility I have selected my custom ICC profile for my printer). My camera is using SRGB. iPhoto is set to 'Add ColorSync profile'.
Page setup is set for the proper printer and paper size.
Using the Advanced Print Setup I have selected the appropriate paper type, turned off printer color correction, and activated ColorSync color correction.
I'm not certain that iPhoto and ColorSync are actually talking to each-other.
I come from a Photoshop background, where it is possible to set the printer profile at output, using 'Print with Preview'. This setup is intended for my parents though, so Photoshop is not an option.

    1. > What sort of output problems are you encountering?
    1) No output problems, I'm simply trying to figure out ColorSync interacts with iPhoto as there's little or no documentation on the topic.
    2. > Also what printer are you using or your parents will be using?
    2. My folks are using a Canon S820
More specifically, I'm hoping to use a custom printer profile, which has produced decent color accurate results with this setup in Photoshop.
This presents 2 questions, a) how to utilize the new custom printer profile in iPhoto (use color sync utility? by declaring the profile in the 'Current Profile' section for the device) and b) does iPhoto pay attention to the Current Profile selected profiles when printing?
Basically I'm looking for info regarding the behavior of iPhoto with regards to ColorSync. The lack of documented info is the problem.
I was told today when on the phone with Apple, that iPhoto pays attention to the default profile and not the Current Profile selection, but the rep didn't sound sure, so I'm not too confident in his response.
Also, it doesn't make sense to me that ColorSync Utility would allow you to select a profile and that iPhoto would then subsequently ignore it.
My folks are importing camera images that are tagged as sRGB, iPhoto is set to apply the profile per the advanced prefs, their monitor is profiled and the profile is activated.
iPhoto has plenty of documentation regarding the tagging of images with color profiles, and the display of these profiles with regard to Apple monitors (by using CameraRGB etc) but not a heck of a lot devoted to getting good prints at home through the use of ColorSync, and custom profiles.
ColorSync was designed for just this type of thing, and when you print, it's available as a color correction option in the Color Settings section of the print dialog box, but there's nothing written regarding using it effectively and properly.
Getting color accurate prints is not a 'Pro' feature, it's something that the Mac is supposed to embrace out of the box thru the use of ColorSync...that's the whole point of ColorSync a system wide color management workflow regardless of the 'Pro-ness' of the app or so I thought.
Every rep (AppleStore, Genius Bar, Creatives, AppleCare, iPhoto Software support) try to pass this of as a pro feature, and it is not– is something that ColorSync is supposed to be doing for the whole system, not just Aperture or Photoshop

  • Photo book printed with text "last import" on last page

I had a photo book printed and when I received it on the last page of the book there was text, "last import"?
I did not write that text and can't explain where it came from.

The above link did not work, the link took me to a page that read,
    We're sorry.
We can't find the page you're looking for.
Please return to the Apple Support homepage.
But, you were very helpful because  when I went to my book I created in iPhoto, I clicked on the option key when I pressed the buy button and I was able to save the book as a pdf.  You were correct, "last import" was in a dialog box which is why it was in the book.
This was the first book I ever created in iPhoto and I went to the Apple Store (a few times) to take one on one classes and worked on the book in the group training.  When I asked one of the Apple Store Group Training Instructors, she told me not to worry, that text won't print.  Lesson learned, I will save it as a pdf to proof it before buying the book.
Thanks again for your help, very much appreciate you taking the time to help me figure it out.
    Have a good day.

Downloaded Canon printer/scanner drivers for Canon PIXMA MP520 and MX860 on Mac Book laptop, and they worked.  However, when I downloaded the same two drivers on Mac Book Air, neither worked.

I wasn't aware that VueScan charged a yearly license.
You simply launch Image Capture and if the scanner is recognized it will be listed in the SHARED list in the left display column.  Select the scanner name and the app will start an overview scan.  You will also see a list of scanning options in the right display column (resolution, paper size, file output format, etc.
The above description is when everything is working correctly, which has been the case for me.
    Good luck.

  • Panoramic image prints in wrong orientation on roll paper

Trying to print panoramic image on roll paper on Epson Silver 1280 printer. Image displays in correct orientation in print preview box but prints across the roll paper as a cropped portion of the image which is 11" X 43" horizontal format. It's a Photoshop CS image printed on G4 powermac in system 10-3-9. Printer connected to computer via usb cable. Everything else prints fine. Just can't print on roll paper. Any thoughts??

    Also, just did this test:
I used all of my old settings:
    Roll Paper selected
    Ultra Prem. Photo paper luster
    Super 2880 dpi
    no high speed
And then I used the old paper profile for ilford gallerie smooth pearl. (I used this even though I'm currently printing on Ilford Prestige paper.)
And it came out with NO faint grey Border!
Then I tried it with all of those same settings, except I used the older profile for Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl for the ROLL paper (IGSPP11Roll_EPP4800_PSPPn.icc)
Then I got the grey border.
And finally just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I tried one more time:
All settings as above except I chose the GPSPP12_EPSpro4800_PSPPn
Which is the profile I downloaded to match the prestige paper.
    And GREY BORDER!
So It seems like using the prestige profile was giving me the wash of grey. And also the roll paper version of the old gallerie smooth pearl also gave me a grey border.
But what should I do now? I want to use the proper paper profile so my colors and tones come out right. I don't feel comfortable just using the wrong paper profile just to stop the border.
On another note, I researched the Highlight Point shift (based on advice I heard from a friend) and that really sounded like what was causing it. However, I am not even seeing that on my printing options. I must be using a different driver or something. When I'm in photoshop, i just select "File - Print" and then go through that normal dialog. Is there some other way to print that gives me many more options?
Thanks to you all for your help so far.

  • Printing landscape and portrait orientations in LR

I have usually been printing from Qimage or QTR for my black and white, despite having heard good things about LR's print module.
This afternoon I thought I would give LR a whirl at printing. I had a series of 4 photos (3 portrait orientation, 1 landscape) selected which I wanted to print one per page. In Print they all appeared oriented in the most logical fashion as I paged through the 4 pages (i.e. the longest dimension of the image ran down the longest dimension of the paper).
I then selected my profile for my paper and hit Print... to go into my printer settings (Epson 3800) for that paper. These latter settings exist for both landscape and portrait orientations of my papers. As I had both landscape and portrait images I wished to print and the settings for the printer driver dialog are identical for both apart from the media orientation, I chose the landscape to get a quick feedback on whether LR would be able to handle a mixed bag of portrait and landscape images.
As I feared, my first print (which was an image in portrait orientation) came out with the long axis of the image squeezed into the short dimension of the paper....so LR saw the choice I had made of a landscape orientation within the printer driver as a hard and fixed choice. Does this mean one can only do print runs of either portrait or landscape oriented images in LR and never combine the two?
I realize there may be an easy answer to this as I've really not used LR for printing till now.
    Thanks for input,
    Dave M

Thanks DJ-G....I can't swear but I am almost positive I had Rotate to Fit checked....indeed that would explain why when paging through the 4 pages in LR they were rotated to fit in the correct orientation. I'll check again. I do understand with Custom Package etc. we can print landscape and portrait when printing multiple images on the same page but my specific concern is printing one image per page and whether LR can handle a series of such prints in one print job if the images are a mix of landscape and portrait orientations.

  • Being new to working with Mac, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to set my Mac Book Pro wirelessly to the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark ll? My husband had gotten this printer and the sales person said that it can be set up wirelessly to my Mac Book Pro

Being new to working with a Mac, I was wondering if anyone can tell me step, by step on how to set up my Mac Book Pro(Mid 2012) wirelessly to a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark ll that my husband had gotten me? Sales person told him that it's compatiable to my Mac Book Pro, Mtn Lion, but I do not see it and I don't see how to do it wirelessly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ;o)

    Hello:
There is nothing wrong with asking questions.  There  are no dumb questions....answers, yes, but not questions.
If you set up your wi-fi router to establish a network, then both your printer and MacBook Pro will connect wirelessly.  *** I do not know what kind of router you possess, I don't want to suggest things that might not be relevant.
