Book will not download to iPad

I downloaded a free iBook (Away In My Airplane) by way of the Apple Store app on my ipad and iPhone.  During the download my Internet connection dropped out and stalled the download.  The download finished on my iPhone but would not resume on the iPad.  I deleted the book on my iPhone which also deleted it from the iPad, but I still cannot re-download it to the iPad, even though it shows up in Purchased Books (can download to iPhone).  When I try to open the book I just get the spinning gear over the book.  Any ideas?

Have you gone back to the iBook store and tried to download it to your iPad as if you never had downloaded it. Also have you completely shut down your iPad since this took place? That may allow your iPad to reset itself and completely clear out any old reference to the failed download.
You can shut it down by holding the home and power buttons at the same time until the "power off" appears. Shut it down, wait a few minutes and the turn it back on.

Books will not download. Account is fine as I can download music and movies

I am having the same issue.
I bought a book through Ibooks on my ipad.  Received the message "book is downloading.  when download is complete book will be in library".  The book never showed on my library shelf.  Repeated attempts to buy and download the book leads to the same error message.  I attempted a different book to buy and download and received the same message on that.  Powered Ipad down and then powered back up, and tried again to download but again the same message. Went to my Mac, accessed Itunes, the book wasn't there.  I tried to download the book to Itunes and received the same message.  Should I try deleting the Ibooks app on my ipad and reinstalling it?  Would that delete all my 350 book purchases or would they remain on Itunes where I could then transfer books back onto  my IPad when the issue was resolved?

  • App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon

Device : iPad Air 32gb wi-fi model (not cellular data)
OS version : 7.1.1 (up to date)
    Location : UK
Problem : App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon
Last night I tried to download an app over wi-fi onto my iPad Air, but the app did not install.
I have plenty of space (the app is 24.1mb, I have 3.4gb free space) and there are no restrictions whatsoever on my iPad - no blocks on App store purchases, no age-related restrictions, no country restrictions etc.
Normally from the App Store page you would tap the price (in this case the app was free), enter your iTunes password, and the app would download.
Also a new icon appears on the home screen and a circle shows the progress of the download.
    However this did not happen.
Instead I have the Cloud icon (the one that shows when you have bought an app but it is not currently installed on your device) and a message that says "You've already purchased this, so it will be downloaded now at no additional cost".
If I press OK I am then prompted to enter my iTunes password, the Cloud symbol briefly changes to a circle (and I mean for a split-second, like the blink of an eye) and then the Cloud symbol appears again.
The app does not download - in fact it does not even *attempt* to download.
I have tried this >20 times now and it always occurs excatly like this.
After Googling this problem (which seems common) and reading over a dozen threads on this forum plus Apple's own official support pages, this is what I've tried:
I can re-download other apps that I have previously purchased on this iPad, with no problems.
I purchased another app on my iPhone 5 and was then able to download onto my iPad with no problems.
I have reset my iPad >5 times - both by pressing/holding the home/power buttons, and also a full switch off and restart.
I have logged out of my iTunes account on the iPad, and logged back in.
The wi-fi is Virgin Media fibre optic broadband with a verified speed of 20 meg (confirmed by Speedtest) plus an 802.11-n Belkin router and my iPad will happily load web pages, stream videos on YouTube, download other apps etc.
I have reset/rebooted my internet connection
In an attempt to eliminate by broadband connection from the possible causes, I have switched off my router, linked my iPad to the hotspot feature on my iPhone and tried to download the app over cellular data, but still cannot download the app.
I have tried on 2 other wi-fi networks but still cannot download this one app.
My iTunes account has a cerdit balance from an iTunes card, but the app was free anyway
Nothing I try will download the app in question.
The app is iPad only, so I cannot install on my iPhone to try and kick-start the process.
I guess I could install the app on my computer and then sync the iPad, but that's *working around* the problem - it's not *fixing* the problem.
(Since getting the iPad I use almost never use my computer. And anyway what if I did not have a computer? Didn't iOS go "PC-free" with version 5?)
I would like to call Apple but my 90-day telephone support has expired (the iPad is around 6 months old) and I don't want to buy Apple Care for this one problem.
I can't make it to an Apple Store to speak to a Genius.
Bearing in mind the list of things I've already tried, what do I do next?
Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hi there.
Thank you very much for your quick reply, it's really appreciated.
No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.
    Thanks again for your help

  • Book did not download on iPad. Looks like book went to the cloud. How to retrieve.

Book did not download to iPad looks like it went to the cloud. How to retrieve? Looks like trying to download on bookshelf timer going continuously running down battery

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • Apps will not download on iPad. Just sits there waiting.

Apps will not download on iPad. Just sits there waiting.

Reboot your iPad and try again.  To reboot:  Press and hold the power AND home buttons at the SAME time for about 10 seconds (ignore the slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go fo both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You will not lose any data or settings.  When it comes up, see if you can download apps

  • Barnes & Noble books will not download to my iPad

I have an iPad with retina display and the B&N Nook app. I can buy a book but it will not download. Any help please?

Are you accessing them from within your Nook account?

  • Paused book will not download

I purchased a book that will not download-
I hope someone can help.  I have tried rebooting and downloading iTunes, shutting down iPad, etc and am still on a
continuing loop from my paused book telling me to download and then telling me it had already been purchased and to download.
I have since purchased other books and they downloaded with no problem.
I need a solution to this frustrating problem.  I still want the book.  If it would let me cancel and
    Repurchase I would do that.

    Try this:
    1. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS.
    2. Make sure you have the latest version of ibooks.
    3. Download a free book from the iBook store. (Winnie the Pooh is free) This appears to make existing books with a "downloading" status change to the cloud download button.  Click the button to download the book again.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then to resume the download.

  • New book will not download

Put used new book but will not download.just shows paused.

I had the same problem and was able to fix it after trying various things. Here's what I did. From my iPad, I went into the iBook store, tapped on my apple ID at the very bottom of the page and signed out. After I logged back in, I purchased the book again.  When I did that, I got the message "already purchased, download again?" and hit yes. And it worked. Try it. Hope it works for everyone.

  • Songs will not download to iPad - download error, try again

I have 6 songs that will not download onto my iPad. They are on my iPhone, but will not load onto my iPad.  ITunes Store says "download error.  Tap to retry." I've been retrying for a month!

    Hi there edwinfromplacitas,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • I book will not open on ipad

Can't delete on I pad..will not open..works on Intel imac..purchased when the negotiator became available..I want the book and not a refund.

Tapping the icloud arrow should get it to download to your bookshelf and it should then get 'downloaded' against it in Purchased instead of the arrow. See if any of the following fix it :
    - close the iBooks app via the device's taskbar and then re-open the app and re-try downloading it : iOS: Force an app to close.
    - soft-reset of the device : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.
    - log out and back into your account : select the Featured tab in the app, scroll to the bottom of it, tap on your id and log out, and then log back in

  • IBook 2 books will not download

Downloaded the new iBooks 2 as well as the new iTunes version on my Mac. Used my iPad to access iBooks and chose a free book to download. Entered my password and the book appeared on the shelf with the download bar blank. It never started to download. When I touched the book icon, it now says "Paused". When i go back into Store, I can select the Download option but the book doesn't download. Anyone else having this problem? I have restarted, rebooted, all the normal stuff when there is such a problem. Nothing helps.

    UPDATE: Problem solved!
There were 2 possible problems: insufficient space and/or needing to sync with my computer in order to download. I'm not sure which action resolved the issue, but here is what i did:
    1) I downloaded the book I was having trouble with, the McGraw-Hill Biology textbook, to my computer from the iTunes store. (There should be no cost to do this--after having purchased the book from your iPad or other device it should be available to download from the iTunes store.)
    2) I plugged my iPad into my computer and discovered I had insufficient space to sync everything, which included the book. After de-selecting some videos, I synced my iPad, including the Biology book.
    3) However, after the sync completed, the book was still not present on my iPad; but opening iBooks caused the book to begin download.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPad apps will not download?, IPad apps will not download?

IPad apps will not update even though the iPad screen shows apps need upgrade. What's happening, is Apple losing it?

This problem has been ongoing for several days now. Hundreds of people are in the same boat as you. This is a problem that Apple has to fix. If you look around the forum, you will see many, many discusssions about this and they have been going on for a few days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this is a workaround - for the time being.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store.
