Booklet printing in InDesign 5

How do I print a specific spread from booklet printing in InDesign 5?

Easiest way is to make a PDF and print the spread from that.

I know i need to print duplex with saddle stitch but when i try to set up the 17 x 11 pages in indesign it makes the whole booklet that length. help....

Setup your document at 8.5 X 11 and then to create a booklet, use the Booklet Printing feature (File > Print Booklet).

  • Trouble with booklet printing -- InDesign CC 2014

I'm having trouble printing booklet with new CC 2014. I print to postscript, but then PDF is not correct.  I see it's using Acrobat 8 driver;  how do I change that to Acrobat XI?

Peter, I was/am having trouble explaining my trouble, so I am going to tell you what happened to me yesterday... This booklet printing issue started with me uninstalling my old Acrobat 8.... since I run XI Pro -- because it caught my eye, too, that now I, like many other CC users, have three (3) sets of software on my computer. So I got Acrobat 8 uninstalled, but then had to go back to work, and postposed dealing with the other CC program uninstalls. Yes, I am using CC to run my business.... lost 6 hours yesterday trying to cope with computer issues. So, I'm heading into InDesign to print a production file for a 24-page booklet for a client on a deadline, only to find out the ID CC 2014 is still looking for Acrobat 8, or my Epson printer. The only other option in the postscript print menu at that point is "device independent", which does not allow for page setup, hence the pdf (saved from the postscript file) comes out completely wrong. (showing a standard portrait letter page setup for a now landscape ledger size document)
It took me 3 hours of search to find a post from 2012(!) that lead me to believe that if I could install (manually!...never done it before) a pdf9 PPD into the new ID CC 2014 Present folder it might just work. In fact, I had to manually program a brand new version of a software, which I've never done before -- I am not even close to a software engineer.
I still don't understand why ID CC 2014 is not looking/routed to Acrobat Pro. But then the previous CC didn't either. It was running on Acrobat 8 PPD too.
I manually built a 24-page printable booklet yesterday. Lost 6 hours of billable time. (installed pdf9PPD at midnight last night... I'll stay in business.) I see dozens of extensions in Extension Manager for ID CC 2014. Have no idea which one I would need, if any, to fix this issue, or where to install them.
Thanks for listening! And for the follow up.

  • Indesign CS Booklet Printing

    Hi folks,
We've been using indesign CS now for a while, it's all good apart from the lack of a 'booklet print' option. Does anyone know of a script/plugin or way of recreating this function in indesign CS? It seems a lot of money to upgrade for just this one function...
    many thanks
    Jon

If you decide not to upgrade, you might like this script:
    http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip
It shuffles pages for two-up saddle stitch booklets. You run the script, which makes a new shuffled copy of your document, and then you print "Spreads." The only time I've seen it fail was when I tried to use it on a document with multiple sections where there was a section prefix included (which is the default condition).
There are a number of other scripts out there, too. Some may even do more than 2-up and add creep. I believe Carlsen Enterprises has one. Check the exchange.

  • New problem printing from InDesign CS4 in Lion

After having great success with Aisolve's earlier fix on printing from InDesign CS4 after upgrading to Lion, I'm having a new problems after installing the OS X 10.7.2 upgrade last week. When I try to print from  InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 to my Lanier 445c/Ricoh C4500 at my workplace I get the following error message:
"Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
This seems like a different issue this time, as I'm able to print to my home printers, an HP LasertJet 2600n and an HP Photosmart C4270. I thought it might be a printer driver problems, but I've gone to Lanier's site and they don't have any new printer drivers for Mac OS X 10.7.
I also some research on Adobe's site, and found this message affecting CS1, 2 & 3. I tried the only fix that seemed to apply to me, which was re-naming/deleting the InDesign Deafults and InDesign SavedData files. (I have this problems even when I'm printing a text-only file without any graphics.) This fix didn't work.
I can print to the Lanier/Ricoh from Acrobat 9, and all my non-Adobe software just fine, so my work-around to date has been exporting to PDF and printing from there. My big problem is that I need the "Print Booklet" feature in InDesign for a big job I've got coming up this week. Can't do that from Acrobat. :-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • How do I create a double page spread in a booklet layout on InDesign with out splitting my design and putting them on two separate pages?

I'll try my best to put this in the most simplest way,
Im trying to create a magazine, but I'm finding it difficult to make a double page spread without splitting it in half and putting it on different pages?
Is it possible to set the pages up so they are side by side, and then change them to the right order to print?

Just set them up as letter size pages in reader order. If you are having it printed professionally, send it as a pdf with separate pages, and the printer will handle setting up the printer spreads. If you are printing it from an office printer, both InDesign and Acrobat have Print Booklet functions. Many office printers also have this capability built in.

  • Booklet Printing Duplex Imposition

I have been Googling and searching the forums and I am not finding just what I need. Please help!
I want to create a booklet in InDesign. I set up my document with left and right hand pages as 1/4 of a standard letter size. So my page measures 4.25" wide and 5.5" tall. The page count varies, but let's say it's about 40 pages in length.
My goal is to print this on 4-up sheets with duplexing. I can then cut the paper, stack it and bind it.
But I am getting stuck on the imposition. Here is what I tried:
    1) I output the page from InDesign as a PDF with single pages. I then opened it in Acrobat and tried to set up the print. But there is no imposition in Acrobat and, even though I have a duplex printer, it doesn't seem to understand two sided, multi-up prining. I have a cover and a first page that should get imposes back to back, but every opion in Acrobat puts them in sequential order (of varying types of maze paths for layout).
I tried "Booklet Printing" under Page Scaling, but I could not find a way to get 4-up on a page.
    2) Tried booklet printing direct from InDesign. The main problem here is that their only 4-up option is for four consecutive pages laid out end to end. This is absolutely no help.
    3) Found the Dave Saunder script called "MakeBooklet.jsxbin", but I have no directions for it. I cannot see the code, so I assume this has been compiled. It is for CS3 and before running it, I need directions which I cannot find.
I am very stuck. I am not sure where to go from here, but I absolutely do not have $500 for some imposition software that I will use just a few times in my lifespan. I have Distiller, but still need to generate the imposed EPS pages for that. Right now, I am thinking I will have to do this manually, and that is just going to be a nightmare.
    All suggestions are welcomed!!
I have InDesign CS4, Acrobat 9 Pro and am on the Macintosh platform (iMac i7 with Mac OS 10.6.4)

You'll have to do some of this semi manually, because 1, you don't want to spend any money on it, and 2, because you're doing something a bit unusual, by putting two pages on one, and printers and free scripts don't allow for it.
So first of all run the makebooklet script on your original document, which we'll say is called filename, which will then save that file as something like filename_bklt_1. BTW you don't need any instructions for makebooklet because there are no options, at least on the version I have, just run it and see what happens!
The make another Indesign document the size of your finished page and place the filename_bklt_1 document into it.  Use the MulitPageImporter script (free and very useful) to do this and do it twice, once with the page at the top of the page, the 2nd time with it at the bottom.  Save that file and you're done.
Then when you make a change to your original filename document all you need to do is save that, and open the other two documents in order and update the links.  Fairly automatic really, especially when it's free.  FWIW Quite Imposing could do the whole thing in one easily saved step, but I totally agree, it's just not worth it for a few one off jobs.

  • Booklet printing to tabloid

I hope I am posting this correctly. I thought I could get telephone assistance regardless of the cost. My reputation is hanging on this. I would pay any amount at this point.
For years I have printed the same tabloid size art catalog from inDesign (CS6 now) by using:
    PRINT BOOKLET
PRINT SETTINGS -making sure my printer (Canon) is selected
PRINT - select SAVE AS POSTSCRIPT in the PDF dropdown
Print to desktop and open w/DISTILLER set to oversize print
I have been struggling for HOURS to get this to work. It only prints portions of each page on letter size, regardless of how many times I configure to print 17x11.
I am at the end of my rope with a deadline at the end of the day on something I have NEVER EVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH!!!!
    I am on a Mac w/Yosemite 10.10.2
How can I get the help I need??????????????????????????????????????????? It isn't working and my head is pounding.
    Pete

Well, I've now been on this for nearly 8 hours. Here's what I discovered:
I could not do a blessed thing to get this to print correctly using inDesign CS6 with Print Booklet and then DISTILLER to open the PS file (all outlined in my initial post).
What I ended up doing out of sheer desperation, I saved it as an earlier version (.idml), threw that new file, all the images and links to an external HD and found a colleague who had inDesign CS5. That party opened it all up, adjusted the links, and printed the booklet w/o a blink or hiccup.
Soooooo.... what on Earth is going on w/CS6 and the ability to print to .ps???????????????????? No matter what I did, it forced me to produce a letter-size, not a tabloid.
At least my rep isn't tarnished with the community that expected this annual piece! Perhaps in an hour my heart will stop racing.

  • Trouble with Booklet Printing in OSX 10.6

I recently ran an update for OSX 10.6 and ever since then, when I select the booklet print function, the print image does not rotate. In other words, the preview shows the document in a landscape format, but rotated to print as portrait. However, when I print it, the image is still in landscape but has not rotated, leaving a third of the image off of the page. (I have attached a pdf of what the output looks like.)
Has anyone had the same issue? Any help would be appreciated.
I use a OCE (Konica Minolta) copier with the latest print driver, however when I print with my VMware in Windows in Publisher, it prints my booklets correctly. I have the same problem using CS3 and CS5.

10.6.5 introduced a couple of printing issues that have mostly been solved. We have a couple of Konicas but they use either Fiery in the case of the 8000 and Creo in the case of the BizHub for RIPping.
One the Bizhub with the Creo rip we would get a similar error when printing directly from the driver, but printing to the hold queue and setting the printing properties from the RIP would correct it. Run through the exact same settings to the print queue and get an error.
If you are using InDesign's Print Booklet feature one potential workaround would be to create a pdf with VipRiser VipRiser « Onflapp's Blog
Acrobat probably won't have that printing issue. If it does you could potentially just drop the PDF into a hot folder (assuming you have a separate RIP on the Konica. Otherwise a less than elegant way to get around it for the time being would be to print from your windows VM.

  • CS3 Booklet Printing Staple Problem

    Hi all,
Here's my problem... I have an 8 page document in Indesign CS3, with all pages letter size. I'm using Print Booklet to print this to a Xerox 7760 printer onto tabloid size paper which is printing on both sides of each sheet (duplexing) and then folded in half and stapled at the spine (therefore uses two tabloid pages). I have no problems whatsoever printing a single copy of the entire booklet. It prints just fine and puts my individual pages in the correct order. My problem is that when I need to print MULTIPLE copies of the same booklet at once, what it does is print let's say 5 copies correctly but staples them together as ONE thick booklet instead of 5 booklets. Does that make sense? The booklets are in the right order, its just one set of staples holding everything together instead of 5 indiviual sets. I've tried a number of settings but I can't figure out what I am doing incorrectly.
FYI I'm on a Mac using OSX 10.5.8 and appear to have the latest Xerox drivers.I am also trying to avoid making this into a PDF and printing out of Acrobat (haven't tried it yet but may go that route temporarily if all else fails) because I find when I print multiple copies of multipage documents out of Acrobat, it resends each page for every copy making it a horribly looooong process. I am not having this problem within InDesign. I also found that the images didn't look at sharp as printing within ID as well.
Any help would be very appreciated! I'm just scratching my head over this one. Thanks in advance!
    Rayven

    Hi Guy,
It's a known issue with Indesign CS3,same problem with Acrobat 8 fixed with 9 (sets stappled together)..Try to use the imposition from the driver and not from the booklet printing, correct with the version 5.0.2 but another problem with the first page rotated with the 5.0.4 so moving to CS4 is the best choice.
    Good luck.

  • Brochure / booklet printing problem

    Hi,
I  have a problem with the booklet printing. I am german, so I hope you know what I mean
When I try to print a booklet I sometimes get the error message (translatet from german so maybe it's not the exact wording): "The active document uses multiple page sizes. "Print Booklet" can be used only for documents with common page size."
How can I solve this? All the pages are the same size (A5) but InDesign wont let me print it. The only way that worked for me is to make a new document and copy all the page content but that not a solution. This happens a lot so I'm tired of making new documents...
I hope you can help me.
    thank you
    Hans

    Mr. Krone,
I am the “this DOV” that you refer to.
I never said “that its a non-issue for Adobe.” What I did give you was our position as to the best and most professional method of doing imposition because there are so many issues associated with both “booklet making” and imposition in general that this built-in, fairly hobbled feature simply can't handle correctly. Since the print booklet feature doesn't provide a PDF export feature, if you create PDF via it, it is by distillation of PostScript, a real crap shoot if your document has any transparency effects and/or color management.
If there is a bug (and I am not doubting for a minute that this thread notes some real bug or bugs), it should be reported to Adobe Tech Support for resolution. Neither I nor anyone else in this thread indicated that such a reported bug would be dismissed and not fixed by Adobe.
In terms of the parts of this thread associated with DTP and teaching, etc., I know of absolutely no word processor, layout program, or desktop publishing program (whatever that means) that offers any real support for imposition because, as previously stated, imposition is exceptionally device dependent. If you don't understand that, you are personally not in a position to diss our recommendations.
I will not stoop to the point of posting my résumé into this thread, but let's just say that (1) I've been in senior positions at Adobe for nearly 23 years, (2) have been in the computer and graphic arts industry for over 40 years, (3) currently am also serving as an industry research professor at the California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo in the Graphic Communications Department teaching publishing workflow as well as having taught classes at RIT and given many classes and presentations throughout the world, (4) am current chair of the ISO PDF/X standards committee, and finally (5) have the full support of Adobe executive management in posting here. Sorry you don't like my advice, but we stand behind it!

  • How do I select a thick paper to print from Indesign?

How do I select a thick paper to print from Indesign? I have to go to the printer to select the thicker paper. I would like to select the paper from my computer in Indesign.  Other programs allow this.

At the bottom of the print dialog box is a button labeled Printer. That will lead you to the printer-specific options like paper weight.

  • Print quality poor on bitmap logos when printing from InDesign

We have a studio of MACs. One of them prints this indesign document fine, the quality of the bitmap images looks like it does on screen.
On all the other MACs printing to the same Printer the bitmap logos on the same document print out with really poor quality.
Any ideas ?? This is driving me mad as have checked the printer settings and it appears they match the working MAC.
Dont think its a driver thing as all other documents and anything other than bitmap logos print fine.

They have said the following regarding the file type ...... They are saved as tif files but in photoshop they are converted to Bitmap under the Image>Mode>Bitmap option

  • How do i print from indesign (CS4) landscape without losing the edges.

i'm a PC to MAC newbe. Also moved from CS2 toCS4.
can't for the life of me figure out how to print from indesign in landscape layout without losing the left 2.5 inches of print. having the same trouble with #10 envelopes.
    your help would be appreciated!

Usually this problem has to do with choosing the correct size and orientation of paper, both page size and print paper size.
IOW, if you want to print to a #10 envelope, start a new document that is exactly the size of a #10 envelope. Then when you print it, choose a paper size that is exactly the size of a #10 envelope.
What size page are you printing, and what paper size are you choosing when you print it?

  • Canon 4080i can't access booklet printing - Legal or Tabloid

I used to be able to do booklet printing on both Legal and Tabloid size paper. Now I only get that for Letter sized paper. Did the drivers change to disallow that or am I missing something like maybe a setting on the printer itself? Color imageRunner 4080i with AH1 and W2 over the network. Any help would be appreciated. I see that if I do it through Parallels and windowze I see those options in the print dialog there.

    G Michael Otto1 wrote:
Having said that, what you are telling me is to specify the folded page size as the paper size and that won't work.
Well it sort of works for me.
With a multiple page document open in Preview, I can set the Paper Size to US Letter. I then change to the Finishing menu and select Booklet and Saddle Stitch. When I then print the job the machine errors, prompting me to load 11" x 17", which is obviously the size needed to fit two Letter size pages to a sheet to make the booklet.
If I then created a Custom Paper size of 7" x 8.5" so that I could 'use' Legal for the booklet sheet, I did find that the Booklet selection was not available. This was the case for the UFR2 and PS3 driver. Interesting side note is that the iR C5185 using the imagePASS-H1 does support the printing of booklets using Legal paper (at least through the driver it appears to support it).
So as you have found there does appear to be a limitation with the latest drivers to create a booklet using Legal paper. But booklet printing on 11x17 with Letter sized originals appears to be available with both the UFR2 and PS3 driver.
