Bookmark bar items gone

Just glanced up to go to a certain page and realized all the items on my Bookmark Bar are gone. I tried to restore from Time Machine but the button is grey.
They WERE on my iPhone for a minute, but now the sync has taken over and they're gone there, too. Sigh.
Everything else looks good. Any ideas?
Pam

I went to Go to Folder and searched for ~/Library/Safari/ (a suggestion from another post) then entered Time Machine. Then I went to yesterday and the Restore button was gray. I tried different day and times and still it's gray.

  • TS4001 iCloud Syncs my Desktop Bookmark Bar items to my iOS Bookmark Menu, folders only

I have all of my bookmarks in Safari on my desktop (OS X 10.7.5) via the Bookmark BAR - I have them organized in folders for ease, and I like it that way.
When I use iCloud to sync Bookmarks to my iOS devices (iPad Retina and iPod Touch, latest iOS), the result is that I end up with a series of bookmark folders in the "Bookmark Menu (not the Bookmark Bar) that duplicates bookmarks and folders that I have on my iMac desktop in the Bookmark Bar.
Problem 1.  I don't want them in the Bookmark Menu on my iOS devices, I want them in the Bookmark Bar so I can use them from the bar.
Problem 2.  Even if I wanted to use what ends up on my iOS devices, I can't because none of the bookmarks in the folders are there, only a series of folders.  The only actual bookmarks that are on my iOS devices are those that are not in folders - and again, those few are in the Bookmark Menu, not the Bookmark Bar.
    Can anyone help with this?
    iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011; 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 running OS X Lion 10.7.5
    iPod Model PC544LL/A; version 6.1.3
    iPad Model MD515LL/A; version 6.1.3

So what you are saying is that if I save a url on my desktop Mac as a Boomark Bar item, it SHOULd sync to the Bookmark Bar on my iOS devices?  That was the issue I was complaining about.  It was not.  Please confirm that because I am only assuming that from your last paragraph above.
As for the whole duplicate thing, from my searching the forums today I realize that is a common "issue" people are complaining about - that their bookmark bar items are also showing in the bookmark menu.  I think that is what you were referring to.
So I did try your set of steps in your last paragraph above and they did not work.  In fact, nothing seemed to sync except the test Boomark Bar folder addition I made on my iPad which synced to my iPod touch.  Other than that, nothing else synced from my Desktop - neither in my Bookmark Bar or my Boomark Menu.
Posbily related - Unforntunately, becasue I was having this problem earlier and also had noticed the whole issue with the fact I had all of the same folders on my Desktop Bookmark Menu as I had in my Desktop Bar - I tried to solve that issue by deleting all of the items under my Bookmark Menu, and now I do not have anything in that folder except:
    Recent Tags
    Recently Bookmarked
    Get Bookmark Add-ons
Feeds (folder with items in it)
    Unsorted Bookmarks (folder empty)
Is that part of my problem now?
    Thanks,

  • Hello - When I installed OSX 10.8 on my iMac, all my bookmarks and the bookmarks bar were gone.  On my two MB Pros they carried over with no problem.  How can I retrieve them?  Thanks

All my bookmarks and bookmark bar entries were gone when I installed Mountain Lion on my IMac.  When I installed in on my two MB Pros, they carried over without a problem.  How can I retrieve them?  Thanks.
    jn

Make an archive copy from one of the MBP (File>Export Bookmarks).  You may not need it, but if things sync the wrong way on iCloud, you may lose them on all your devices.
Then check out iCloud on the iMac. Is your stuff on iCloud.com?  Maybe try logging out and back in again.

  • My bookmarks bar is gone with all my saved favorites, can i retrieve?

I there a way to retrieve all my saved websites on my bookmarks menu that has disappeared? I may have accidently deleted them when clearing history.

    Safari 6
    Bookmarks bar is hidden probably.

  • Menu Bar Items Gone!

    I am trying to help a friend with a iBook G3 900mhz 640Mb RAM 10.4.8
She went to use her computer last evening and found that all her menu items on the right hand side, time&date, battery, keychain, airportstatus, and iChat status, were gone. I instructed her to go to the system preferences to check the boxes to restore the time&date and battery but when that is done nothing happens. I just tried to check the iChat one and when I have to click the box several times and the check shows up for a flash, twice it showed up for a second then unchecked. Also the spotlight icon is in the menu bar now but it is flashing slowly, the only other item on the right side is the weatherpop program icon which is working. Also all the regualr menu items on the left are present. I have never had this issue, please help.
    Jerome

I followed the steps from the other post. Did not solve the issue. Below is the text from the system log. Each time the spotlight icon flashes it adds another line of the same. Any ideas?

  • My entire bookmark bar is GONE and I cant even add new ones, this happened after I updated Firefox. Can I unupdate? Or is there a way to get the bookmarking function back?

I just updated to 3.6 and I cant go back a page either. It's like it cant remember ANYTHING! I really need help! I have a mac o sx. The space where the bookmarks used to be is still there but it's blank.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Is there a way to use the keyboard to select a Bookmark Toolbar item?

Hello. I'm using FF 25 on a Mac running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I love how fast it is! However, one thing I use constantly in Safari is the ability to use a keyboard shortcut to access my Bookmark Bar items, since they're all bookmarklets. For example, in Safari I can use Command-1 to invoke the first bookmark bar item, etc.
Is there a way to do this in FF 25?
    Thanks.

    Try this extension:
    *Bookmark Shortcut Keys: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-shortcut-keys/
You can set the modifier in the Preferences of the extension.<br />
I've tested it on Linux and it still appears to work for me in spite of the comments, so you can give it a try and see which modifier works on Mac.

  • Tab Selects Buttons and Bookmarks Bar

Up until this point, Safari has been working on my machine just fine- a few stability issues aside. However, randomly, today when I press tab, the browser buttons , URL field, Google Field and Bookmarks Bar items and finally Page Fields are selected, instead of the normal URL Field, Google Field, Page Field arrangement.
Does anyone know what caused this to happen, and what solutions might be available? I've checked to make sure that the Tab option for "highlight each item on a webpage" is off, and I've tried clearing my preferences.

That particular setting has a hotkey assigned by default, which I believe is alt/option - F7 .... The setting was changed on my machine when I started seeing what all the F-keys did, and inadvertently pressed the key combo.
    Hope this helps,
    Mat

  • Launching applications from bookmarks bar

I know that Safari prefs can be set so that 'Address Book' appears in the Bookmarks Bar, and can be launched from there.
I also know that if any URL is bookmarked, and its address changed to 'AddressBook:////' (no space in AddressBook) -- and its name changed as desired -- that the item which appears in the Bookmarks Bar will launch Address Book.
And that if any URL is bookmarked, and its address changed to 'dict:////' -- and its name changed as desired -- that the item which appears will launch Dictionary.
But I have not found other applications that respond in a similar manner.
And I don't understand what ':////' is all about.
How might one go about creating a Bookmarks Bar item that would launch, for example, TextEdit?
    TIA

    ahh, I see....
you could save yr script as an application bundle, then modify the info.plist so it shows as handling particular url's - details here.
editing the plist is easy enough, and I can get safari to be aware of say test:// url's, but experimenting with one of apples example scripts ( the Sherlock -search internet one ) doesn't work properly here - sure enough, safari reads the test:// & opens the script ( which is saved as an application bundle & had its info.plist modified as above...) & the application opens no problem, but then closes right away rather than doing what it should do, which is ask the user for something to search for.
I bet if you post in the applescript or Developer forums, you'll get an answer as to why this doesn't work...
ho ho try this: http://www.apple.com/applescript/linktrigger/index.html I just didn't know what to search for.

  • Safari 5.1.4 renaming "Bookmarks Bar" to "BookmarksBar", causing the bookmarks bar to disappear

After I upgraded to Safari.5.1.4, I noticed that my bookmarks bar was completely gone. I went into Show All Bookmarks, and I noticed under the BOOKMARKS heading on the left, there was a folder called "BookmarksBar" (without the space between Bookmarks and Bar). Thinking I did something wrong, I used drag and drop to move all the folders from "BookmarksBar" to "Bookmarks Bar". Once I did this, the bookmarks bar appeared correctly.
However, after shutting down Safari and restarting, the bookmarks bar was gone again! I did a Show All Bookmarks, and the "Bookmarks Bar" folder was again renamed "BookmarksBar". It seems now that I can't maintain my bookmarks bar between Safari sessions.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Hi...
You mentioned both bookmarks and extensions in your orginal post on this thread >  https://discussions.apple.com/message/17872836#17872836
The problem is when you start multiple threads for the same issues, we have to go back and check each thread to see what troubleshooting that's been tried that hasn't worked for you. That is time consuming not just for us but for you as well.
In case you aren't aware, we are volunteerrs. This is a user to user forum. You are not addressing Apple employees here.

  • Do I still have firefox? yesterday, my firefox changed entirely. My tool bar is gone. I can't see how to access my bookmarks, history, etc. I don't know wha

Two days ago, I had Firefox as my internet browser, and it worked as it had for years. It had a tool bar at the top with File, Edit, View, History, bookmarks, etc.
Yesterday, when I was on the internet, I noticed that my home page and tabs looked different. Then I noticed that the Firefox tool bar was gone.
I don't know what version of Mozilla Firefox I had two days ago, but when I checked my programs, it says that on 5/13/2014 I have Mozilla Firefox 29.0.1 (x86 en-US).
I know enough about computers to function, but I don't understand some of the terminology in the help articles to see what I need to do to fix my firefox.
Please help me figure out what happened and restore my firefox to the user-friendly browser - with words instead of pictures - that it was before.

Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and check "Menu Bar".
Your bookmarks are accessible from the Bookmarks button on the navigation toolbar. It's the wide button on the right side of the address bar with a star to its left.
Your history is accessible from the History button under the ≡ Menu Button panel. You can right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize, then drag the History button onto the navigation toolbar if you like (that's the area with the Back/Forward buttons and the address bar).
If you'd like to completely revert Firefox's appearance, install the Classic Theme Restorer add-on and restart Firefox when prompted.

  • MENU BAR ITEMS ON RIGHT SIDE ARE GONE!!!

I am using 10.2.8 on my iBook. All the menu bar items on the right side (audio, date and time, internet connect, airport) are suddenly GONE and there is nothing I can do to get them back. Clicking show battery status in the menu bar does not work. Ditto with date and time in menu bar and show PPPoE status in menu bar. Show volume in menu bar cannot be checked!!! I called Apple Care and they recommend an archive install of system folder and then reinstalling all my other programs. That sounds extemem and I'd like to avoid it if possible. Please help! Thank you very much!

Hey guys I've got the same problem. Booted machine up in the morning - no right side menu bar items. Last night I was erasing some language files from various apple apps (mostly iLife stuff, would 'get info' on the app, click on languages and then remove everything but english - usually reduced the size of those applications by a quarter to a half). Unfortunately I wanted to see what sum result of saved disk space I'd have so I emptied the trash can (seemingly too soon!) and I don't know how to fix whatever went wrong. Help!
    thanks,
    Alex

  • I want to list the items on my bookmarks bar alphabetically, can I ?

I keep adding to my bookmark bar but would like to order them alphabetically, but no in separate folders as they are not easy to categorize. Is there a way ? many thanks for suggestions!

    Hi ...
You can re arrange items in your Bookmarks Bar simply by dragging to the desired location.
You can alphabetize bookmarks in folders.
Click the Bookmarks icon top left corner of the Safari window
From the Safari menu bar click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark Folder
Drag the bookmarks you want to that folder. Now drag that folder to the Desktop. The Finder will automatically alphabetize the bookmarks. Then drag the folder back to the Safari window.

  • With this new version, my bookmarks side bar is gone. How do I get the side bar back?

When I updated to the new Firefox 4 my bookmarks side bar is gone. The bookmarks are still there under the bookmark drop down menu, but I want to know how I can "pin" it back to the side. of the screen.

It works!!! Thank you so much!

  • How do I permanently delete an item from the bookmarks bar?

When I right click and delete a bookmark in the bar, it disappears but comes back after I have shut down my computer and later boot up again.  How do I get rid of it permanently?

If by chance you have v10.7 Lion installed not v10.6.8 as your profile suggests, deselect Safari in System Preferences > iCloud then try deleting an item from the Bookmark bar.
