Bookmark issues

I transfered my bookmarks to my new Macbook Pro and now I'm having issues with opening some-but not all- of the bookmark folders. I can get to the links if I go through "show all bookmarks" but when I try to use the drop down bar it won't show any of the links. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

I too suffered from this issue where the bookmark bar would not show any. The way I fixed it, was by making the Bookmarks from scratch and so far that's the only effective way I know.
Hope this helps!

  • Converting to .PDF bookmark issue

Bookmark issue:  I am writing this for another user.  I am not familiar with InDesign but have analyzed the issue.  Version of InDesign: CS3 v5.0 version of Acrobat: 8 v8.1.3 version of Page Maker: 7 v7.0.1  The user creates an InDesign document with several 'chapters' of content.  The structure of the document   looks like the following where an X represents an entire chapter and a B represents a subsection of the   chapter.  X1   B1   B2   B3 X2   B4   B5   B6 X3   B7   B8   B9  The user then creates bookmarks for each chapter and subsection.  The bookmarks have a parent/child   relationship between X and B, respectively.  The same structure seen above is the structure the bookmark   tree takes on.  When the user goes about creating the file as a PDF, an odd issue occurs.  All of the bookmarks work except   B2, B4, and B7.  B2, B4, and B7 point to B1 even though they pointed to the appropriate locations in   InDesign.  Obviously, the appropriate settings are toggled to pull the bookmarks across to Acrobat.  Something isn't   quite right, and I want to figure out where the issue lies.  Things to consider: The InDesign files were migrated over from Page Maker files.  Anybody have any clue.  Any further information needed? --

I add bookmarks to my ID files on a daily basis and hardly ever found a fault with it. As far as I can tell, they appear exactly in the same tree hierarchy in the PDF as created in ID.
... The InDesign files were migrated over from Page Maker files. ...
may be a clue. ID may leave some rubbish in its files, and that rarely (for me, at least) may lead to otherwise unexplainable errors. Perhaps the PM import was not as 'clean' as you'd hope. Try this: export the file to INX and re-load it (you should use the "Open.." command for this). Check if the bookmarks display correctly in their little panel; then try the exporting to PDF again.
Are you sure about the sub-version number? 5.0 is an original, unpatched version, and a number of issues have been fixed -- I think the most up to date version would be 5.0.3 (don't quote me on that, check the updates!). It's not that I remember this issue from the updates, but you never know.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
☞ What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.

  • Captivate Bookmarking Issue - Returns to Wrong Slide!

I have a Captivate course with over 270 slides divided into 7 sections. There are 3-4 quiz questions at the end of each section with a score page on the second last page.
when through the course and exiting, bookmarking works until you get around half way through, at which point bookmarking returns me to a slide about halfway through the course. Ive made various version trying to rectify this, and at times it was a quiz slide, other times a standard slide. I tried moving all the quiz questions to the end of the course, and bookmarking would return me to a specific quiz slide each time. This bookmarking issue would appear when I existed the course after not completing it, or completing it and failing the quiz. Has anyone experienced this or got an idea what might be causing this?

What version of SCORM are you publishing to?
The bookmarking info is held in the suspend data, along with quiz info and all variables in the project. It could be that the suspend data has reached it's limit. Or it just can't handle that many slides.
There are ways to manipulate the bookmarking in CP as I wrote in this blog:
    http://www.tlcmediadesign.com/blog/2015/01/controlling-captivate-bookmarking/
This probably won't help your situation though. Depending on the SCORM version you can use the comments field to store info and use that to bookmark.
With a project of that size and depending on the info you need to tract/save, it would be best to connect a non-Captivate SCORM driver and make a SCORM calls yourself..
Or you can split the course into 7 separate SCO's to reduce the suspend data.

  • Saving bookmarks issue

    Dear SAP Experts,
We are facing a very peculiar issue. When we try to save a bookmark on the folder, it keeps on processing (wheel keeps spinning) forever after providing the bookmark name.
While its doing this, if we click on the report again and then click on the bookmark open folder, we see this newly created bookmark.
In a nutsheel, when we try to create a new bookmark, it keeps on processing until we break it and click on open bookmark button. This feature was working properly earlier without this behaviour. It's a custom WAD template where the BEx report is housed. There has been no recent browser upgrade or java stack upgrade.

Update latest patches to your BEx GUI.

  • Bookmark issues In Acrobat Pro!

    Hi everyone,
Over the past month we have been having issues where a customer of our's when she is creating PDF files from Word, she isn't able to add bookmarks to certain paragraphs or link any of the document to Acrobat Pro X after the document is created from Word at all. She selects various bookmark styles that she wants to have in our output file of her PDF file to select certain things, but sometimes it will pick up bookmarks and work for some of the document, other times it  just wont wont work at all and just selects its on ones, without even telling it to do so. i.e like Test No, Heading 1, Heading 2 or Paragraph three. She will have problems where Heading 1 wont  won't appear in capitals from when it was showing as lower case letters in Word. Parts of the document, she wants it to not show certain paragrahs, it still chooses and back to what i was saying before it will just choose to bookmark all of the paragraph and a lot of the time it adds funny letters and numbers to a lot of the document aswell.
It really has been driving us crazy!!!, we have tried numerous things, tried installing the software and then re-updating the program with the 1.4.1 update as it is Acrobat 10.0 she is using. We have even had tried selecting different Bookmarks on a fresh template from word and it still behaves in the same way. We have tried Resetting her profile and have now even came to the point of complete rebuild, re-installing  Windows 7,Office and Acrobat Pro and every other software on her account. If someone could give some advice or be able to offer a complete fix for this, it would really help put a end to this problem that has gone further than past the funny stage.

Well I haven't found a fix, but I'm reasonably sure this issue has arisen because I combined pdf documents from two different sources - 1.  Open office calc on windows 7 and  2.  Pages on Mac OS X lion.  Not sure why, but that is the only difference.  Will post this as a separate issue, as in-document links are also effected by this distinction.  So not all pdf documents are created equally...   After spending an hour solving the green "signature detected where none exist" bar this morning, this latest fiasco has not left me too impressed with adobe.  But that's tech folks...

  • Convert from Word 2007 to Acrobat Pro 9; bookmark issue

When converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Acrobat Pro 9, enabling "Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks", not only are Headings converted to bookmarks, but bulleted text (styles), as well.  I attached the subsequent PDF, but this forum does not permit the document attachment.  I really only want to show the Headings.  (It may be noteworthy to mention that when using this same set of styles in Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro7 the conversion was seamless.)
Does anyone know how to correct this?  I have reviewed my Word styles and the issue does not appear to be on the document level.  Am I missing some obscure setting?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.
    -PS

I had a similar situation occur when converting Word 2007 docs to Acrobat Pro 9 Extended via the PDFMaker (Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007), and I want to share a workaround. In summary, I had extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF (heading 3s, body text, XE Index tags, etc.)  that I did not select to be in the PDF.  I contacted Adobe's support and ended up talking for approx. 2.5 hrs to 2 different reps with no solution. They reproduced the issue on their end, but couldn't figure out how to fix this. I recently upgraded to Tech Comm Suite 2.5 from 1.0. The Word 2007 conversion to PDF via Acrobat Pro 8.x worked fine.
Scenario: I have 400-page user guides that I am required to publish as 'Press Quality' with navigable bookmarks to certain headings in the PDF. I have to generate the PDF via the Acrobat Add-On tab in Word, since I do not want to manually insert bookmarks in the PDF for 400 page documents (as you would when using the Adobe Print driver or 'Save As PDF' operation).
In the Adobe PDF Maker dialog, I have the following Application Settings selected in the General tab:
    Create Bookmarks
    Add Links
In the Bookmarks tab,  I originally had only two Elements selected for bookmarks:
Heading 1 (a Word Heading already present) as the Level 1 Bookmark.
Table of Contents Bookmark (a Word Style I created) as the Level 2 Bookmark.
As a result, the Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks were both enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
The resulting PDF contained extraneous bookmarks that I did NOT select, such as Heading 2s, 3s, even body text - too much to clean up for 400-page documents! Additionally, and this was annoying too - I noticed that all bookmarks appeared as Level 1 Bookmarks, making the PDF Bookmarks really messy. I converted multiple Word 2007 documents with the same results.
    How I resolved the issue:
In the Word 2007 document, open the Styles window, select all instances of the specific Word Heading (in my case, Heading 1). All instances of the selected Word Heading will be selected in the doc.
Click the New Style icon in the lower left part of the Styles window.
In the Create New Style from Formatting dialog, create a new style name (e.g., I created H1).
Just to be sure to NOT create the new style from an existing Word Heading, I selected (no style) in the Style Based On field.
Configure the remaining formatting items as necessary, and then click OK. All of the selected instances from the old Word Heading style are now changed to the new style created (in my case, H1).
Click the Preferences tab in the Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007, and open the Bookmarks tab.
Remove the old Word Heading (in my case, it was Heading 1) so it no longer will be included as a Bookmark in the PDF.
Select the new Word Style that you created (in my case, H1) to be generated as the Level 2 bookmark. Note: My original Level 1 bookmark, "TOC Bookmark," is still selected. Now, only the Convert Word Styles to Bookmarks is enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
Generate the PDF once again via the PDFMaker, and no extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF.
Note: I also noticed that when Index tags (XE tags) were present in an element selected to be a bookmark in the PDF (such as my new style, H1), they also appeared in the PDF Bookmarks pane. I just moved the XE tags down to the body text so they would no longer appear in the PDF.
Question for discussion: Maybe there is a bug in the PDFMaker when both Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks are selected? The extraneous bookmarks do not appear in my PDF when only Convert Word Styles is selected.

  • Captivate Bookmarking Issue

We have developed a WBT using captivate 2.0. This WBT is
published as SCORM 1.2 complaint. But while testing it on ADL Test
Suit and on Sample RTE, we have observed that, the data was sent
only on some slides. That is why, course is not bookmarking
properly. We had also gone through the captivate slides, but there
is no such difference in the slides where data is send and the
rest. We want every slide should bookmark. Could you please guide
    us in resolving this issue?
    Thanks..

    Aptara, Pune.

I think in Captivate 2, the lesson sends the latest data on
    each and
every screen. Why that would NOT happen, I don't know. If
    anyone there
has any javascript experience, you can see all the JS
    functions in the
parent HTML file. Perhaps you can add alerts in those
    scripts, if you
can decipher them, and determine if data actually is or is
    not being
    sent on each page change.
I don't know of any way to demand that the Captivate file
    send data at a
    given...

  • Network accounts on OS X 10.6.8 experience bookmark issues with Firefox 9

We run OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with network accounts, home directories being mounted by AFP from a Snow Leopard server with attached XServe RAID.
Since 9.0.1 (possibly earlier) bookmark management has become impossible. Added bookmarks sometimes don't survive after logout/login. Delete bookmarks sometimes reappear.
A more elegant demonstration of the problem involves creating a new account. On the first run of Firefox, attempting to add a bookmark gives you an empty "Add Boomark" dialogue. "Show All Bookmarks" reveals that you have three bookmarks called "(no title)" that you can't edit or delete. It is impossible to add additional bookmarks.
I've tried delete and recreating profiles, and checking the places.sqlite file for corruption with no joy. This looks like a fundamental issue with the way Firefox deals with bookmarks.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? I doubt if anyone is crazy enough to have a setup like ours, but any help would be appreciated.

That still sounds as there are access problems to the places.sqlite database file, so you need to check that out another time.

  • Captivate 7 - Bookmarking issues with Cornerstone LMS on IPAD

    Hello,
I am looking for some assistance with Captivate 7 (currently using version 7.0.0.118) with the Cornerstone LMS and bookmarking when using an IPAD.  We have no issues with content launching, bookmarking, and sending completions on Windows based opeating systems, but on IPAD's, with the latest version of the IPAD OS and Safari, we have no issues with launching the content and it will send back a completion, but the content will not bookmark.
Cornerstone is stating that the Safari browser on the iPad is not properly implementing the onbeforeunload trigger, which is primarily used in courses to force a save of the course data. This event is not triggered within the iPad version of Safari, preventing courses from saving themselves when the course is closed.  We currently have our customers closing the web browser in order to exit the course on the IPAD.  We are not experiencing this issue with the HTML5 courses that were exported with Captivate 6.
    Thank you,
    Karl

    Clare,
If you want a continuous movie (since it is simply a demo) you can use the HD Video Demo. But editing and synchronizing will be much more a pain.
Captivate's power is just in the creation of those static slides, but I would never record narration at the same time. I create the VO after having created the simulation, that is much easier just because the slides are static. I have been choosing Captivate just for that reason, but of course it is up to you. Want to have just demo: use HD Video Demo or choose Camtasia. But you'll never have the interactivity power that has Captivate. For trainees and students, interactive simulations are much more engaging, but that is your choice. And even a 200 slides movie has only 6000 frames, and will have a much smaller filesize than a video that explains the same.

  • K1 Update: K1_A301_04_04_111017_US Bookmarks Issues

My K1 presented the 111017 update tonight. First thing I noticed after the update was that all my desktop bookmarks disappeared (about 10). I added them all back and decided to reboot cause K1 seemed sluggish, and not fluid. Well, all my desktop bookmarks disappeared again. Same results 4 separate times. Just thought I'd mention it.

hmmm, I have the test K1_A301_04_04_111017_US and I had non of these issues. I didn't do a factory reset either.
I'll see with them as to what may have changed between the test and the release.
I even had all my apps, nothing changed. All bookmarks on the front stayed as well.

  • Bookmark Issue

My iPad has suddenly lost it's ability to save bookmarks! I can open the menu from a web page and have the four options (bookmark, Home-screen, mail & print). When choosing the bookmark option l have the normal choices (edit the name, save to location). I can even tap on the blue save option, however none of my bookmarks save. I've tried all the normal bug fixes and have even gone as as far as a whole iTunes retstore. I am also unable to successfully create new folders in the bookmarks tab, I go through each step and save, however they do not save either. Lastly, out of frustration I finally decided just to sync from my Mac via mobile me, now desktop, MacBook, & 2 iPhones all have the bookmarks but nothing here on my iPad!! Is anyone able to shed any light on this!

    Hi,
Check out the troubleshooting help here for MobileMe sync issues.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1672
Try this first: *Turn all syncing off and then back on*
"From the home screen, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then tap your MobileMe account. Tap the sliders off for each account that your are syncing. If prompted to do so, tap "Keep on My iPhone" (or iPad/iPod touch). Turn your device off and back on, then re-enable syncing. If prompted to do so, choose Merge with MobileMe. Wait a few minutes, and try syncing again."

  • Safari 7.0.5 updating bookmark issues

I just got a new 27" iMac running 10.9.4 at work and copied my old Safari Bookmarks.plist to our server. In trying to put them on the new computer, I no longer have the Library/Safari in my Home folder to drag the bookmarks.plist into. How do I update my Safari bookmarks? I tried to make a Library folder in the Home but it said there is already a Library folder, but it does not show up. HELP! I have too many Bookmarks I need and do not want to lose. It sounded simple online when it said just replace the Bookmarks.plist over the Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
In home the folders that show up are Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures and Public.

    Select
              File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the old bookmarks file.
