Bookmark list overwrites menu bar and task bar

When I open a bookmarks folder that contains a large list of bookmarks that extend up into the menu bar and down into the task bar, the menu and task bars are overwritten and remain so even after the bookmarks menu is closed. This remains until the browser is closed and reopened or I click the Windows "Show desktop" button.

Try:
Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

When is select Bookmarks from the Menu Bar, at the very bottom are a bunch of bookmarks. How can I move these in groups to a folder or folders?

The easiest way to move bookmarks around is in the Bookmarks Organizer, which at some point was renamed the Library. To open it, you can choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks or press Ctrl+Shift+b.
(Please note that the sort order of the Library dialog doesn't actually carry over to the menu. To sort the menu alphabetically, it's easiest to open the Bookmarks Sidebar, right-click the words Bookmarks Menu and choose Sort by Name.)

  • How can I click on "Bookmarks" in the Menu bar and it simply display my actual bookmarks rather than making me open another window and search for it?

Just dl FF 6.x. I finally found the Bookmarks drop down by adding the Menu bar. Now, I want to click on "Bookmarks" and then simply scroll down my list of bookmarks in the dropdown. As it stands now, I have to click on "Show All Bookmarks" or "Unsorted Bookmarks" just to be able to get to my bookmarks. A huge wate of time and effort. Any way to do this like the "old way". Or I as I say it, the way that works?

The Bookmarks sidebar is the same organization PLUS providing the same ability to search on strings within titles and url as you have on the Location Bar drop-down (AwesomeBar features).
To see the same on the sidebar
    * Bookmarks Toolbar - - don't expand
    * Bookmarks Menu -- Expand just one level, collapse sub-levels below that -- looks same
    * Unsorted Bookmarks -- don't expand
Same organization, don't see how you can be lost. You may prefer the always collapsed Bookmarks (menu).
To put things back to how you were used to, which is more efficient and takes up the same amount of space if you use styling in addition to steps 1-10 when compared to the inadequately featured poorly designed 4.0 style.
You can make '''Firefox 6.0.2''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox even more functional.

  • Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?, Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?, Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?

Why does bookmarks in menu bar disappear after shutting down and turning mac on?

When I am in "COLLECTIONS AND BOOKMARKS" view, I changed the name of the folder that is listed under "bookmarks" (that is designed to be a drop-down menu on the Bookmark Bar), I changed the name to "TV 1" from "TV Shows". I also added another folder under the Bookmarks called "TV 2" and I dragged and dropped two bookmarks from the "Bookmarks Menu" listing to the "TV 2" folder, and yet Safari would not update in real-time the Bookmark Bar to recognize that I created a "TV 2" folder/drop-down menu, nor did it update the contents of "TV Shows" to become "TV 1".
The only way I was able to update the drop-down menu bookmark folders on the Bookmark Bar was to drag-and-drop them one at a time from the "COLLECTIONS and BOOKMARKS" view.
Is it just me or is this a ******** way of updating bookmarks?
I think it is perfectly fine as being ONE WAY of updating bookmarks, but there really should be "real-time" updating of bookmarks. That is to say, I should be able to choose "bookmark this page" and add it to the folder named "TV Shows" and automatically see Safari update it without having to make two steps: 1) choosing the bookmark, and 2) going into the list of bookmarks to manually drag and drop the bookmark into the Bookmark Bar that contains the folder/drop-down menu.

  • In FF29.0 bookmarks on the menu bar stop working correctly after exiting 'Customize': has anyone else noticed this?

Shortly after installing FF29.0 I noticed that the bookmarks menu from the 'Menu Bar' - NOT the new one that appears on the right of the screen - was not working correctly: specifically, when right-clicking on a bookmark to look for 'Open in a New tab' all the options were greyed out and I now realize that this occurs after exiting the 'Customize' screen, which effect I have consistently duplicated several times now; to restore functionality I have on each occasion had to close and re-open Firefox. This error does not appear to occur with the new bookmark menu that is associated with the bookmark icon at the top right of the screen. Has anyone else noticed this error?
(Personally, I prefer the bookmark menu from the menu bar, which incidentally I find easier to read than the new one and I like menu bars anyway.)
    Many thanks.

  • Why would I get artifacts of my bookmarks list on my toolbar and desktop after I select a bookmarked website?

Hi there, After upgrading to Windows7 64bit from XP32bit I installed Firefox and imported my bookmarks. Whenever I scroll through my bookmarks, if I choose a folder that has enough websites to overlay over my taskbar or desktop and select one of said websites, the part that was overlaid over the taskbar/desktop remains and can only be cleared by clicking on the taskbar or by creating a box with my cursor on the desktop to overlay the remains of the bookmark list. I'm sorry if If I've explained this badly and I'd be happy to send you a printscreen to make it easier to understand. Many thanks, Jerry

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Under Bookmarks in the Menu Bar, I can access my Bookmarks Toolbar, but I can't get it to appear on screen as a toolbar.

I think I've put the necessary details in my question. When I click on Bookmarks, I can access the ones under Bookmarks Toolbar, but I want to see them below the Menu and Navigation bars.

This would show Bookmarks Toolbar checked, but the items were not appearing on the screen below the menu and navigation bars.

The option for Switch List is being excluded from the PF-Status when the calling report is not the RFITEM*.
    Include LFI_ITEMSF01, Line 379
    * list refresh and toggle: only if called by RFITEM**
      if caller_repid(6) ne 'RFITEM'.
        wa_extab-fcode = 'REFR'.
        append wa_extab to rt_extab.
        wa_extab-fcode = 'LTOG'.      " Switch List option
        append wa_extab to rt_extab.
      endif.
You can replace your Z program name in your Z include or change the condition like
      if caller_repid(8) ne 'Z_RFITEM'.
      endif.
I assume that your Z program name is Z_RFITEM

  • FF 8.0.1 forgets what tools bars were in what state when open after closing. It defaults to Menu bar off, bookmarks bar off, tabs on top...

Randomly FF 8.0.1 when you open it, forgets the last state it was in when you closed the program down. It seems to default to bookmarks toolbar off, menu bar off, and the Tabs on top is on when you start FF 8.0.1.... I have made no settings changes or altered any add on's to FF. Nothing happens to passwords or bookmarks just the bars in use...

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • The bookmarks sidebar will not show bookmarks. Even if I import them or restore them. In the menu bar they show up fine. How can this be fixed?

If I open the bookmark's sidebar it's empty. If I use the Menu Bar, the bookmarks are all there. I tried importing them from Internet Explorer but they still do not show up on the sidebar. I also tried restoring but they still don't show in the sidebar. After restoring and importing, I now see 3 bookmarks but that's all. I also am unable to delete those 3 bookmarks as "delete" is grayed out. Also, if I try to bookmark a page through the bookmarks in the menu bar, and I want to select a different folder, I can only see 5 items down, where as before I could choose if I wanted to save the bookmark in an existing folder of my creation which was further down. Is there a way to fix this?

hello Cronus, you might have to expand the default entries (toolbar, menu, unsorted) in your sidebar first before you get to your actual bookmarks/folders.
otherwise please try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once, to rule out the interference of any addons: [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
in order to specify the exact path of a newly created bookmark click on the arrow at the right side of the folder field as shown in the screenshot attached.

  • Cannot click bookmarks on menu bar after ALT-key when menu bar is hidden

If you personalize the toolbars, dock the "Bookmarks objects" to the menu bar (useful to reduce space) and hide the menu bar (making it visible by pressing the ALT key) you're not able to click a bookmarks bar's item anymore because (after having shown it by pressing ALT key) as you click the bookmark button the menu bar loses focus causing the whole bar to be hidden again and the click event to be catched by the main window instead of the bookmark button.
[http://alextm.no-ip.com/bookmarks_on_menubar.JPG Screenshot of the header with bookmarks]

With F10 you obtain the same result, the menu bar is shown but when you click on a non-menu item the bar is hidden again not allowing the bookmark item to catch the click event.
Of course I know how to move the bookmarks bar back to the tab bar, but it is not a solution to the problem I've posted, just a workaround. As I've said in my previous post I've moved the bookmarks bar there to limit the height of the window's heading section: if I move it down again I miss my target.
Anyway, I don't think we are here to decide wherever to place the bookmarks bar, but to notify to the developers the presence of this issue.

  • Bookmarks disappeared out of my menu bar. How do I get it back? (I can find it under VIEW SIDEBAR)

I used to have a dropdown menu available for bookmarks in my menu bar. It disappeared. Now I can find it by going to VIEW and then SIDEBAR, but this is inconvenient. How can I get it back into my menu bar?

There are a couple of extensions that have the option to hide the Bookmarks menu bar item; you need to change that option. Delicious is one, the other I can't recall.

  • Can I put icons to mark my bookmarks on the Safari bar?

Just would like the visual bar, but don't see anything in the preferences that allows that.

    Hi editgrrl,
    Not in Safari.
Maybe this is possible to use a 3th party software, but not by my knowledge.
    * I for myself use same 'web dings' like the apple icon  ore ♻ ore anything else to make the Bookmark menu bar easy to understand. Don't forget that it very hard to read when you use these, especially when you set your screen to 1024 / 768. I use to print from the Bookmark menu bar ( : ). This become handy to make the Bookmark menu bar shorter. I have 21 Bookmarks in the menu bar an a lot of subfolders in them.

  • Sync creates multiple bookmark lists

When I set up Firefox synch among my three computers, instead of 'syncing' the bookmarks form each, it created separate bookmark lists on each computer, so now I have three sets of bookmarks on each of the three computers. It looks like it just copied each bookmark list from each computer and put each as a separate list on each computer (separated by a line), even though most of the bookmarks and bookmark folders are the same. Is this how it is supposed to work? I expected it to 'sync' the bookmarks, as in adding different bookmarks from each computer to the others, not doubling the same bookmarks, and combining bookmarks in bookmark folders which have the same name.

This is not common but it's a known issue. Sometimes when bookmarks have different tags or include some different parameters they are just treated as different bookmarks altogether.
You should have no further problems if you rearrange everything after the initial sync.
    Sorry about the inconvenience.
