Bookmark Madness!

So, all of a sudden my bookmarks have turned to "Apple - Hardware". Yup the same bookmark over and over again.
Thoughts?

  • My PC and IPAD are synchronised but recently I see that new bookmarks made on my PC do not show up on my IPAD

I have a PC with Windows 7 that is synchronised with my IPAD 6.0.1. Synchronisation work fine for a while but now I see that when I add or modifiy bookmarks on my PC, it does not show up on my IPAD.
    What can I do.

Is it possible that the person who sent the message to your phone sent it to your phone # instead?  Try sending a message to your phone via the email address and see if it shows up on the iPad.

  • How do i bring back the little icon marks next to each bookmarked item in bookmarks? After the most recent update, theyve vanished.

After i updated my laptop with the latest 9.0.1 Firefox i seem to have lost the icons next to each bookmark under bookmarks.
Having the icons next to each bookmark made locating the bookmark i desired much easier.
Please help me with this matter thanks.

  • Synced bookmarks can be searched for and found but many are not displayed on the complete scrollable bookmarks list.

How odd. I've a somewhat complex bookmarks menu hierarchy, perhaps two dozen folders each containing between five and fifty bookmarks as well as a sub-folder or two. All of this is synced and displayed correctly with the bookmarks tab in the app, except for some of the more recent bookmarks that not organized into folders, and are floating inside the bookmarks menu. Of thirty or so, only five appear. Yet, when I search for them within the app they are found, including several bookmarks made today. These are bookmarks contained in the bookmarks menu but not in any particular folders. Clearly they are synced, yet the entire contents of the bookmarks menu are not displayed correctly in the app. Syncing otherwise seems swift. I've less than 600 bookmarks in total. I seek not to search for specific bookmarks but to browse my entire collection, so you can sense my frustration. I'd call this a bug. Any thoughts? Thanks!

No I didn't change anything deep beneath the hood. My problem didn't apply to the URL, but to the name of the link or bookmark header or whatever you would like to call it. (When hitting Ctrl + D there is a Name field). I only got ???????? instead of chinese characters in the name. Also for e.g. www.cntv.cn ...but maybe all China is not in the whitelist either. ;-) But anyway, this was not the real problem for me.
Apparently I was wrong as after a reboot of the computer it worked. The solution seemed to be to add Chinese to the language list. I don't know why it was not enough to restart Firefox?
Now I only have problems to show chinese characters in the name field of my external link manager... But I guess it is not an issue for Mozilla.

  • Bookmark Sync needs user management tools so that I can see which of my PCs has updated, because at the moment, update doesnt seem to work and I can't see why.

I have Synced 3 computers. My main one is A. I used B in July 2013 and then C in August. Now I am on B again, in September, but my Bookmarks go up to 08Jul and then start again with 13Sep, when I logged in on B. I press Sync Now, but nothing seems to happen. I unsynced B and then resynced it again, but still no bookmarks made on C in August. It might be a problem with C not syncing, but I can't tell. And in any case, if I connect B after a couple of months, will it pick up the bookmark list stored with Mozilla, or will it overwrite the Mozilla data with its own data, or will it look at the date stamp on each bookmark entry/deletion and maintain the data in the order I created/deleted it?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • Can i go back to 10.5.3??

hi, bought a new macbook...and did updates, now i am using leopard 10.5.4
but i wanna try a demo of some software, and they say only 10.5.4 is supported.
can i go backwards to older leopard versions??
im finding this out often, as soon as you do an update of operating system or something similar, it has knock on affects to other packages, and some functions of other packages stop working.
its not always good to just update everything is it?? as other software companies have to catch up.......
    thanks

im not using time machine yet ....i havnt got an external drive yet...well i have....but ive used it for backing up pc.....so will probably have to reformat it! everything is hard and complicated and expensive.
do i have to use time machine on an external drive, or can i do it to internal drive?
so which is better, time machine or superduper??
its only a demo, so i think ill stick with the latest leopard then.
so when you use superduper or timemachine.....do you lose documents and downloaded files etc?? newly installed apps vanish?? bookmarks made in internet browswers vanish?? ....
For what you want, SuperDuper is perfect. It has a "sandbox" feature that allows you to do exactly what you are doing, and if you don't like what happened, you simple revert to the previous system.
SuperDuper is free but some of the options are only available if you register it for a nominal fee.
I find it perfect for keeping a clone around, not just for playing with, but also for taking "on the road" to another machine where I can boot it up and feel completely at home,
TM is good for a steady backup program, but SuperDuper is better for creating bootable clones that can be tested and played with.

  • I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks. Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't help. The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.

I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks.
Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== the Firefox is being used

    I think I have a solution.
First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file '''moz_hosts''' in the folder '''places.sqlite'''.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....
    Wa-la...History Gone!!!
As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.

  • I don't understand the thing you call live bookmarks never used it, and most forums I have used notify VIA E-mail not giving out my E-mail address information when a reply has been made to the thread in question.

So how do I get notified of updates in this forum? As I said: I don't understand the thing you call LIVE BOOKMARKS I have never used them, and most forums I have used notify VIA E-mail not giving out my E-mail address, or other private information when a reply has been made to the thread in question, so how do I get notified of updates in this forum? I have seen no normal options for setting my viewing preferences used for this forum. Thank You.

  • I am trying to restore bookmarks to Version 5 from a backup I made from Version 4.+. I get an error message "Unable to process backup file." What's wrong?

I made a backup of my bookmarks when I was running Firefox Version 4+ (stored in a "json" file on a thumb drive). My primary hard disk crashed and when I down loaded Firefox on to a new hard drive, I got version 5.0. When I tried to restore the saved bookmarks, I got an error message that says "Unable to process backup file."

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I have a document made up of separate PDF files which reside in a folder and are linked to each other via hyperlinks. Each pdf file is set to open with bookmarks displayed, however if I link from one PDF file to another and use the "Previous View" button

I have a document made up of separate PDF files which reside in a folder and are linked to each other via hyperlinks. Each pdf file is set to open with bookmarks displayed, however if I link from one PDF file to another and use the "Previous View" button to navigate back to my starting point the bookmarks are replaced by "page thumbnails". Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

    Hi Pusman,
While setting up the links, if you choose to open the file in a new window then you won't face this issue, then you can simply switch to the previous file and bookmark view will remain as it is.
Does that helps with your query?

    Rahul

  • After clicking on a bookmark it does not remain highlighted. it did this in 3.3 which made running through a list of bookmarks easier. I can make the highlight re-appear by clicking on the bookmarks box , not the x obviously!

In 3.3 if i clicked on a bookmark item, either to open in current tab or to open in new tab, the bookmark was highlighted with a blue bar. If I then backed out or closed the tab, the bookmark item would remain highlighted until I selected a new bookmark item. This made searching through bookmarks easy as I always knew the last item I had tried.
In 3.6 the bookmark highlight disappears as soon as it is loaded, again either in current or new tab. However it can be made to re-appear by clicking on the little box above the bookmarks that contains the word 'bookmarks' and the 'x'

Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

  • Really UPSET!! my bookmark toolbar...well I clicked on it...it oped like a bunch of windows and when closed my toolbar bookmard is gone!!!!!!! Nowhere!!!!! MAD!

Well, I used to be able to drag my bookmarks that I want to save into my bookmark bar...had a few hundred there....then I noticed today I couldn't do that I noticed the area moved...so I clicked on it and a bunch of windows showed up....stacked...never saw it before, didn't know what to do so I tried to get out of it and closed it...now...sooooooooooooooo mad, I can find them ...The Tab Bookmarks...they are gone and I tried to look and load them again, but now only a few (7) exit in the bookmark toolbar. Make sure that toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.
    *"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
*View > Toolbars<br>Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
    *Right-click empty toolbar area
Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
*"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize
*check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the "Restore Defaults" button to restore the default toolbar setup

  • Can all the options as history, bookmarks, tools etc made be password protected

my system is shared by many people so i want to make my whole Firefox options as history, bookmarks , tools etc. made password protected.
    is this make possible?????????????

Best bet if the computer is shared, use the Guest account in Windows or give each person that uses the computer their own limited account. Putting a password on an application without putting a password on the Windows account that it's running under gives you no security whatsoever, because they can tamper with the system (installing a keylogger, etc) to get past any security an application can provide.
Antivirus and firewalls are unlikely help you against something that's deliberately installed - you need to limit access to windows itself if you want to be secure and private.

  • What's with the new Firefox 8.0? I made the mistake of updating mine and about 30% of the icons in bookmarks disappeared. It looks like you are requiring a favicon. Anyway, BAD IDEA!!!!!

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries.  How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone?  Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it.  It was a problem with iOS 7 and  8.1.1 doesn't fix it.  The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work.   I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today.  At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.
