Bookmark Management

There must be a better way to manage and organize my bookmarks!
Does anyone know of an alternative way to organize the bookmarks? I've tried exporting them to html, and importing them into another browser (IE7 and firefox), but when I import them back, they lose their structure. I've even tried to "fool" Safari by "secretly" replacing the bookmarks.html file. I had better luck with that, but still...
To Safari developers: A single-pane directory looks beautiful, but it's a major headache when trying to organize it. If you want to keep the left pane the way is, fine - but consider adding a third pane. Better yet, add "cut/copy/paste" to the right-click context menu.

  • How to display newly added bookmarks on top of the list in Unsorted Bookmarks? (not in Bookmark Manager window)

I have hundreds of bookmarks. The Bookmarks Toolbar is filled.I made a shortcut of the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and placed it in on the Bookmarks Toolbar.Whenever I click the star to add a bookmark, it adds one to the real Unsorted Bookmarks, which add a copy of that bookmarks into the folder named Unsorted Bookmarks which is on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
When I click on the Unsorted Bookmarks(both original and shortcut folder), it displays the oldest bookmarks on top, which honestly makes no sense to me because the user has to scroll a lot to get to the newest bookmarks, which are more likely to be used than the old ones that have been sitting there for a long time.Is there any way to sort the bookmarks by a reversed chronological order and display newly added ones on top of the list ?
I am aware that you can do this in Bookmarks Manager window(called Library?) but it requires too many steps and it's time consuming and not easy to use in general.I'd rather click on the folder on Bookmarks Toolbar to open my bookmarks, but they show old ones on top.
    Thanks !

Hmm, you might need to create a "smart folder" for this. You may have noticed some blue folders in your bookmarks such as "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked". These show the results of a query run against your bookmarks or history (Places database) and you can create your own queries with a little elbow grease.
So one possibility might be to create a custom "Recently Bookmarked" folder that extends beyond the current limit of 10. I gave the steps for creating a 20-item version of this folder in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/934205#answer-358492
That example searched ''all'' bookmarks and not specifically Unsorted Bookmarks. To create a new "smart folder" for Unsorted Bookmarks, you could try this:
    (1) Select and copy the following places search query:
    place:queryType=1&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&sort=12&excludeQueries=1
''(For definitions of those parameters and many more, see: [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Places_query_URIs])''
    (2) Expand the Bookmarks Menu (e.g., from the toolbar button or menu bar, or in the sidebar or Library dialog), right-click the first bookmark, and choose New Bookmark
    (3) In the Location field, paste the query (Ctrl+v or right-click > Paste)
    (4) In the Name, enter something like Unsorted Desc (for descending order) or the name of your choice. Then click Add.
    (5) Drag the new bookmark to the desired location on the Bookmarks Toolbar. If you are using the menu, click and drag and hover over Bookmarks Toolbar until it expands. Once it is on the toolbar, you can easily move it again to the desired location. During the first move, Firefox will recognize it as a query-type bookmark so that is why I have you create it on the menu and move it to the toolbar.

  • Safari has added this stupid feature to bookmarks called cover flow and it covers up my list of bookmarks so I cannot edit/rearrange them.  How do I get rid of the black, useless space in bookmarks, bring back bookmarks manager?

How do I get rid of this annoying feature in Safari known as cover flow which appears as a balck void in bookmarks?  the bookmarks manager is nowhere to be found and now I'm going to Google instead of Safari.

Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the black area.
Mouse pointer should turn into a hand pointer.
    Double click.
The Cover Flow  should shrink into small black strip at the top.
To revert back, move the mouse pointer to the black strip at the top.
When the pointer turns into a hand pointer, double click.

  • Is there an online iCloud bookmark management tool? (Similar to Xmarks)

I have been using Xmarks for some time and I love how there is an online bookmark management tool that you can organize and set up as a "master." I'd like to do this with my iCloud bookmarks...Mainly because my MBP, iPhone and iPad don't have all the same bookmarks and no matter what I do, it won't all match up. At most, i can get my iDevices synced, but my MBP doesn't.
If I can't manage the "master" bookmark set, is there a force download/overwrite button?

  • My bookmarks folder appears in the Bookmarks menu, but bookmarks do not appear when clicking "Show All Bookmarks." Bookmark Manager appears, but shows no bookmarks at all.

When opening the Bookmarks menu, I see my bookmarks folder in the dropdown and can access them from there. However, if I click "Show All Bookmarks" the manager launches, but shows no bookmarks of any kind. No defaults, folders, uncategorized links...nothing.
As such, I can still use the bookmarks while surfing, but I can't organize, delete, or export them since they don't show up in the bookmark manager.

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Horizontal scroll bar in bookmarks manager

    FF 29.0.1 win7x64
there is a vertical scroll bar in the bookmarks manager but no horizontal, which squashes all of the bookmarks names, urls, dates.. on my low res screen.
Is there a way to add a horizontal scroll bar to the bookmarks manager so that i could make the
    columns wider. Maybe an extension?

  • 5/15/2014: I lost my bookmark manager

    Hi,
With the latest update, on Windows Vista, I now no longer have a Bookmark Manager or a History Window, which I miss. Is there a way I can get these things back?
I added a new bookmark folder in the "add bookmark" dialog, and I cannot find that folder anywhere in my bookmarks. But it is in the add bookmark dialog list at this time. I would like to be able to put this folder in my regular bookmarks menu, too.
    TIA,
    Mark

hello mark, you can get to your library by pressing "show all bookmarks" at the bottom of the bookmarks menu.

  • Bookmarks manager has disappeared. How do I get it back?

    I am using Firefox 6.

''bookmarks manager has disappeared. How do I get it back?''
In Firefox 4.0 and up it is now "Show All Bookmarks" (item #7)
still in the Bookmarks (menu) with the same keyboard shortcut ("Ctrl+Shift+B")

Restore missing shortcuts on menus using Windows 7 (approx item #9)

You can make '''Firefox 6.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6)]. • Why doesn't right-click work in Bookmarks menu anymore? Why do I have to open some Bookmark manager to edit/delete Bookmarks?!

Until this 29 update, I was able to simply right-click in the Bookmarks menu on any Bookmark and do whatever I wanted like open it's properties to edit it or simply delete it straight from that menu. Now, suddenly, that right-click menu is all blanked out. It's only usable when you go to the Bookmark manager. Why was it necessary to forbid people from deleting and editing Bookmarks from the Bookmark menu?! Why do I have to now go through some extra steps of opening the Bookmark manager then finding the Bookmark to edit or delete it when I could have done all that straight from the menu?!

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once?

  • E90: Syncing bookmarks and bookmark Management

I have my Nokia PC Suite syncronise my E90 Web bookmarks to Firefox (2.0.0.14).
Basically, I shuffled all the Nokia default bookmarks (download themes, download sounds, etc) into a folder called Nokia, using Firefox bookmark management.
Syncronisation has left me with this folder on both my phone and my PC Firefox, no probs with that.
My problem is the original bookmarks (Download apps., Download sounds, etc) are still there, at the top level and I cannot seem to delete them.
Moving them around or deleting them in Firefox makes no difference.
Can these bookmarks be moved (other than up and down) or even deleted?

If you use Sync then disconnect temporarily to fix this issue with the places.sqlite file.
Check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • I can't find my Bookmark manager- it does not show up as shown on Firefox Tutorial - Where is it? I can therefore back up bookmarks

I am trying to back uo my bookmarks.
I have gone to the Firefox tutorial & it refers to a Bookmarks manager option falling under" Bookmark this page"
My second caption is "subscribe to this page " and is not an option available
How can I get to the Firefox Bookmark manager ?

Bookmarks > '''Organize Bookmarks''' -> Import & Backup

  • Bookmarks Manager is not available. I can not delete a bookmark.

I recently upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and can no longer delete a Bookmark. I can not delete it directly and both the Bookmark Manager and the Organize Bookmark buttons are missing.
How can I regain these features?

use the Star icon at the right of the URL

  • Bookmark Manager does not open URLS

Synced my Mac PowerBook with Curve 8330 and transfered bookmarks from Safari creating a Bookmark Manager icon on Curve. Opened icon, used shift key to open folder displaying name & URL address of site, highlighted wanted site, used Menu key and selected Open Bookmark but nothing happens.  How do I open sites from the Bookmark Manager?  These bookmarks are not listed in Bookmarks when the Browser is open.  As a postscript, I downloaded the updated driver from Blackberry for PocketMac and installed it before restart thereby being able to do a good sync.

You can ask your desktop browser (Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox) to export your bookmarks.
You can export into a HTML file, and then upload the file on your personal webserver, and then on your blackberry, bookmark that page (or even more... set it as homepage of your Blackberry browser).
you can export into a json file, and tweak it with perl or awk.
you can probably also export to a csv file and tweak it with OpenOffice Calc, to make a single text that you can email to yourself.
Takes a bit time, but not much more than typing 10 bookmarks.

  • There is no 'bookmarks manager on the bookmark drop down menu

the firefox help tutorial says , quote 'to open bookmark manager select Bookmarks >manage bookmarks'. It shows 'manage bookmarks' immediately below 'bookmark this page'. The drop down menu on my firefox does not have the 'manage bookmarks' instruction on the menu. I am running firefox 3.6/win vista. and I am finding it difficult to organize my bookmarks .Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello! I have no "manage bookmarks" nor "Organize Bookmarks" on Firefox 4.0.1 There are only: "bookmark this page", "subscribe to this page", "set as speed dial" and "show all bookmarks". Can anybody help me?
Wow, sorry, I found it, it`s just "show all bookmarks".

  • My Bookmarks toolbar does not show a Bookmarks Manager, so I can't export my bookmarks to a new computer.

I want to export my Bookmarks from Firefox on this computer to Firefox on my new computer. The Bookmarks Manager does not show on the Bookmarks toolbar. Where is it? How can I access it so I can use the export tool?
This computer is Windows Vista - my new one is Windows 7.

"Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in Firefox 4 and later.

  • Why dont we improve the ease of managing the Bookmarks & the bookmark manager itself in firefox?

The bookmark manager is good but not as good as the other browsers. To create a Folder one has to open the bookmark manager then create a new folder and then bookmarks them. apart from that just clicking on the bookmark star next to the address bar put the bookmark into default place. There should be a popup that should confirm the location of the bookmark and give an option to create a new folder where a user can put his bookmark. This makes it easier for a user to manage his bookmarks rather than scrolling through a long list.

    * Clicking the star in the location bar will bookmark the page in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.
    * Bookmarks > "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D) will bookmark the page in the Bookmarks Menu folder (you need to confirm that).
    * In Firefox 4 "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of that browser page or by using the keyboard (Alt+B) to open the bookmarks menu.
    * If the URL in the location bar is bookmarked (star at the right end side is yellow/blue) then click the highlighted star or use "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D) to edit the properties of the bookmark (name, location) and move it to another folder or remove the bookmark.
    * Click the star at the right end side of the location bar once to bookmark the current site and click the highlighted star a second time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window and move the bookmark to another folder or edit the name.
    * Click the Remove button in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to remove a bookmark.
    * Click the arrow at the far right of the Folder field in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list. That full folder list also opens if you click the drop marker in the Folder field and select the "Choose" item. That window also has a button to create a "New Folder" (look for a button with "New Folder" or a "+" under the folder list).
    * Use the "Edit This Bookmark" window to locate a bookmarked link (bookmarks have a yellow/blue star) from the location bar drop down list. Do that in Offline mode ("File > Work Offline") to avoid the link from opening.
