Bookmark ribbon not appearing when pushing bookmark icon

I'm reading a Project Gutenberg book I downloaded from the iBooks store, and when I press the bookmark icon in the upper right of a page, no ribbon comes down to indicate it's marked. When I go to the list of bookmarks, only sometimes has a bookmark been registered, and when it has, it's for a spot a few pages earlier in the text.
If I click on the listed bookmark, iBook will take me to the page it claims I've marked, and the red ribbon will be there.
Is this just an issue with the epub formatting of some books, like this free one?

OK, I have a theory about how this thing is behaving; bookmarks seem to show up/behave as you would expect (when I tap on the ribbon) provided I have the font size set to something that appears to paginate the book to its original (just a guess on my part) layout. If I increase the font size to make things larger/more easily readable, then things get screwy as described above as the pagination bumps up the # of pages and the page #s where a ribbon gets place doesn't seem to correspond to the exact visible page I wanted it on. Confused? So was I, but the evidence seems to point to this.
Anyway, try this out and see if it doesn' behave as I described.
Bottom line - iBooks does not behave in a rational manner and therefore it is buggy in my opinion - i.e. this is not a "feature"...
I have no experience with other iBooks downloads. Steve Jobs is my first purchase - and this this is my introduction to iPad and iBooks and terribly ironic to discover behavior like this with the ode to Steve book - which, BTW, I am enjoying max.

    Do you mean you have checked the box: "Always use private browsing mode"? If so, it's intentional that the private browsing icon isn't displayed as we didn't want Firefox to be showing everyone within view that you're using private browsing mode IIRC.
    There are some easy things you can do to confirm that you are in private browsing mode such as visiting a new website and then confirming it doesn't appear in the history window.

    I'm going to assume you are indeed using Windows Vista as your computer information states, and request this be moved to the Windows forum (it was posted in the iTunes for Mac forum).

    Does everything appear if you just click anywhere on the Desktop? This happens at random to me and it's a known bug (at least in 10.6.)

  • RoboHelp HTML v9 - Browse Sequence not appearing when generated

    RoboHelp HTML v9
    New project - eg not converted from previous version
    Added a browse sequence as per the help documentation - I've followed the help documentation however when I get to view result of the generated WebHelp - the browse sequence is not present on the topic pages that were added to the browse sequence.
    I read previous forum postings for RH8 - where reinstalling or repairing the software seemed to assist - however when I access through control panel - add/remove programs the only option in to Remove RH9.
    So I thought I'd ask the question here before uninstalling.
    There was also mention of a dll file that needs to be registered on the viewers pc before the browse sequence would appear and if this is the case due to the possible audience for the publish I would not be able to control that.
    Any help is appriciated, thanks.

    Thanks - I guess I was looking for the page icons that visualized the
    sequence for the viewer.
    That being said - the navigation arrows are present in my published file
    however seem to hold no functionality - while on a topic that is within
    the browse sequence clicking the arrows does not move through the
    sequence.
    I was initially looking for onscreen navigation  for a series of topics -
    I though browse sequence would do the trick but I think I will move to
    another method.

  • Ribbon not showing when form is opened

    I have a 2007 application.  In it I have create the Usys... table and created 3 ribbons.
    1- Hide everything
    2- Ribbon for my forms
    3- Ribbon for my reports
    I set my db option to startup with Ribbon 1, and this works.  I associated ribbon 2, in my form's properties "Robbon Name", but when the form open, the ribbon does not display?  Anyone have any ideas?
    I can set any ribbon as my startup ribbon, they all appear to work.  The issue is that it won't switch to ribbon 2 when the form is opened.  When a report is opened however, ribbon 3 does appear.  Why won't ribbon 2 appear when my form opens? 
    I have validated my XML using the Custom UI Editor & all 3 ribbons validate (Custom UI XML is well formed!).
    Now I know ribbon 3 works, but if I associate that ribbon to the form, it will not display either.  So it appear that it isn't because of the ribbon, but something else?
    Another question while we are on the subject of ribbons.  I litterally copy/pasted ribbon 2  to create ribbon 3 and then edited it as required, but some tabs, groups,... have the same names between the ribbons, can this be an issue or since they
    start for scratch = true, it will have no impact?

    I use the technique of just one ribbon (one XML file) edited with notepad ++ and the invalidate method conjungate with Application.CurrentDb.Properties("ribbonXXX").Value  to change the tabs.

  • Since upgrading to 5.1, my oncreen keyboard does not appear when it needs to

    since i have done the upgrade, my on-screen keyboard does not appear when it needs to.  I keep having to restart my system to make it happen....  Is there a special way to display the keyboard manually, or should it be automatic?

    regarding your issue lets see what we can do to solve this issue.
    - have you tried safe boot
    safe boot = starting up the mac with the SHIFT- button.
    - when entering safe mode you will be able to enter and quick change some settings
    now next question do the unwanted aplications still load in safe mode , if so
    go to the Apple icon -> System preferences -> user & groups -> login items (top right on the screen from user & groups window)  now at login items u can close any unwanted aplications by deleting them or unmarking them
    - unwanted aplications will now disapear when starting up your mac os x system
    - next issue should be your authentication , this will be a bit more tricky , lets see
    same category user & groups and u will see your admin account try seeing if u have enabled the admin account right click on your admin account to see information about it and compare it if your info is correct , next see if you have authorized your admin account to write & read.
    if these still don't work , make a test account to see if this problem is user wide or system wide.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line.     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test will take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Some CGM graphics do not appear when FrameMaker files are converted to PDF

    CGM files are exported from ISO (Arbortext Isodraw 7.0 CadProcess) files. Then they are imported into Adobe FrameMaker 7.2, where all elements of the illustration are visible and can be printed. The FrameMaker FM file is converted to a PDF file using the Adobe PDF converter function of Frame. When the PDF file is opened by Adobe Acrobat 8,0 Professional, some, but not all of the illustrations in the file exhibit this problem (The callouts and other text may appear, but the lines, curves, etc. do not). The illustration prints the same way it appears on the screen. When exporting the ISO file as a CGM, the following selections are made.
    When importing file into Frame, "Import by Reference" is selected.
    When creating PDF in Frame, the following selections are made.

    you are running Acrobat 8, you should update to 8.2.5. Update your
    FrameMaker to 7.2p158. Those two steps might do the trick. If that fails
    try using a different settings file. Perhaps High Quality or Press
    Quality. I would never use Standard for anything where fidelity is
    important.

    I have this identical problem.  For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad.  Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something.  Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads.  I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time)  Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc.  There still hasn't been a solution.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Since my last firefox update, I have been unable to type an email - the box within which one would usually type does not appear when I press 'reply' to a received email, or press 'compose'. I can still add an attachment to the email header, which successfully can be sent, but the recipient gets my standard email 'signature' with font messages and the attachment. Can anyone help?     My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

    Try:
    - Another cable
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer          
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    I understand that you are having issues with your music displaying correctly. This may be an issues with the metadata stored within that song, and iTunes interpretation of that info.
