Bookmark routes in iPhone Maps

Is there a way to bookmark a route in the maps application on the iPhone? I regularly use my phone to get a quick view of traffic conditions and routes, and although the recent tab does store some routes I would find it more convenient to just have my routes bookmarked. Has anyone had any success on this, if it is possible.

No, but I have most of the places I need to go bookmarked and thus can quickly enter them to get a route. Normally can enter start and end and get a route in under 10 seconds (along with clicking traffic icon to get traffic).
You can suggest it over at Google (since they made it and maintain it and provide updates to Apple for any future upgrades).

    I just discovered today that you can't see a map route you modified on the web via google maps using the Maps app on the iphone! What a bummer!
    I was hoping to use this to make bike routes for myself using google maps (you know how you can get directions on google maps on a computer, then you can drag parts of the route to different streets to modify the route), and then e-mail the route link to my iphone so I'd have the route via maps app.
    Instead, when I modify the route using google maps on a computer and send it via e-mail, the e-mail shows up in my iphone, I click the link, am taken to the Maps app, which re-calculates the route for driving. But the whole point is to view my custom route for biking! And there's no way to modify the route in Maps app (is there?).
    What's more, when I click the link to the google map in mail, it automatically takes me to the maps app. Is there any way I can make it take me to safari so I can see the map I modified? Since there's no copy/paste, seems I'd just have to memorize the lengthy url, which is ridiculous.
    Does anyone know of a good way to do this?

    I'm having the exact same issue. When I create a custom route on Google Maps (www.google.com/maps), point-to-point, and then force it to take me on back roads via the drag option it won't work, it won't even plot the course.
    Example:
    Home to point 1, point 1 to point 2, point 2 to point 3 and point 3 to home.
    It gives me an error saying, "End location not found"
    Really annoying! Fix it Apple.

    From what you are saying, I gather that you are the original owner of the iPad but you forgot the password to an account that no longer exists, so you cannot retrieve the password, since the email account that you used for the iCloud account no longer exists. If that is correct, you should probably contact Apple and ask for their help.

    Apple's iPhone maps application has some very nice graphics, but I've found it awkward to use at times. I would like to start a constructive discussion of what we, as users, want from the map application. Usually, the best way to start this kind of discussion is with a cooperative brainstorm, inventing little scenarios where we would like the map application to answer a question or solve a problem.
    Here are some examples:
    - I feel lost, where am I in relation to surrounding streets and businesses?
    - I'm in a strange city. How do I get from A to B?
    - Where am I on the path from A to B?
    - I'm in a familiar city, and I want to optimize my travel from A to B. What is the fastest route? What is the shortest route? What is the best way to go if I really like driving on avenue C?
    - I'm trying to get to work, and I'm using surface streets to bypass stop and go traffic on the freeways. Where am I in relation to traffic jams on nearby freeways?
    - Where is the nearest XYZ (coffee, sushi, hospital, police)?
    - I'm in a traffic jam. How long will it last?
    - My car broke down and I'm in the middle of nowhere. What can I do?
    - I've really enjoyed my time here. How can I remember where this is and what was so special about it?
    - I'm feeling a bit lonely. I wonder if any of my friends are close by and interested in joining me?
    - I'm going to be late picking up the kids at soccer practice. Is one of the other soccer parents close enough to pick them up today?

    The iPhone map application doesn't support moving the route. However, it will route around traffic data when available. When I was traveling to MacWorld from somewhere north of Sacramento, when I re-entered my route it adjusted it based on traffic.

    Traffic does show sections of traffic that are stopped. The traffic data is provided to Google from a variety of private and public entities. Google then provides the map data. If your area doesn't usually show anything with the traffic button, you can look at San Francisco.

    In the search box put in coffee and it will look for business/places with coffee in their name centered on the current view. You can also put coffee and a zip/postal code or city,state/province to search. That was the example shown in the "Calamari" commercial that aired before the iPhone was released.

    It may not show how long, but can show the general area
    - My car broke down and I'm in the middle of nowhere. What can I do?
    Find me will give a general location, and from that you can call a tow company.

    Drop a pin, and then you can enter in the name of the bookmark. In the name field you can include keywords to remind you of the experience. It doesn't link to pictures directly. You could also create a contact for that address, and apply the picture to the contact.

    There are some potential privacy concerns with such a feature. What if your wife found out your present to her was from Tiffany's because you spent 3 hours there? What if you actually waiting to pick something up for your boss or coworker? Sure, it might be the material for a sitcom, but in real life wouldn't be so funny.

  • Can the iphone maps display more than one pin at the same time?

    For example, on a recent trip to New York I preloaded bookmarks of all the places I wanted to visit into the iPhone Maps. I then wanted to see where they all were in relation to one another so I could decide which one to go to next (MOMA, Guggenheim, Metroplitan Museum of Art for example). Is it possible to have the map display them all at the same time?

  • Syncing Bookmarks erases all iPhone bookmarks

    Twice now I've spent several hours gathering and organizing bookmarks on my iPhone. Then when I sync with a fresh copy of Safari, one with no bookmarks, it deletes all bookmarks from my iPhone rather than transfer them to Safari.
    I see an option to push all bookmarks from Safari to the iPhone, but no option to pull all bookmarks from iPhone to Safari.
    Is there a way to recover lost bookmarks from the iPhone, perhaps by restoring an iPhone backup? If not, I've lost hundreds of now unreplacable bookmarks.

    It turns out that Allan Sampson is incorrect in his understanding of what data gets restored from backup. He claims that any data that is synced is not restored, ie. music, videos, calendar, contacts.
    I just completed the process and here is the scoop of what you can expect when you restored from a backup.
    First, you cannot simply restore a backup; rather you must do a full and entire restore process. This restore process will first check to see if a newer software update was available, and if so, iTunes will commence the download, as was what occurred for me. I'm guessing that if newer software version was not available, it would have reinstalled the last iPhone package from my computer.
    After downloading new software, the iPhone was reset to factory defaults, and the new software was installed. At that point I was offered the option to restore my iPhone backup, or set it up as a new phone. Of course, I selected my backup.
    After the backup was loaded, here is what occurred:
    1. Custom icon arrange was not restored;
    2. SMS threads were restored
    3. Calendar was restored
    4. Maps were restored
    5. Camera Roll was restored, but all other photos were not; will have to be synced
    6. Notes were restored
    7. Weather locations were restored
    8. Clock locations were restored
    9. Stock picks were restored
    10. Favorites, Contacts, Recents and Voicemail was restored
    11. Mail was NOT restored. In Box and Sent Box contents were gone; I did not have any mailboxes for storage on the iPhone so I don't know what would have happened to stored mail.
    12. Best News of All -- Booksmarks were restored!
    13. No Music or Videos were restored; will have to be resynced
    Therefore, some syncable data is restored from backup: calendar, contacts, bookmarks.
    Now, it's back to figuring out how to get my iPhone's bookmarks to import into Safari. I have a feeling it's going to have to be done by hand, as I don't want to risk looking my bookmarks again. This restore process, including downloading updated software, took a couple of hours to complete; something I'd like to avoid in the future.

    I have saved many places at favourites under different names. Now when I select one of these location the maps does not go to location , its like only searching by the saved name as its the location name.
    Is there a way to get them back ?

    If you open an email with an attachment in Mail, there should be a rectangle with a dashed line border and an arrow pointing down. This means you can download it - to do that, just tap it.
    Instead, if it's already downloaded, there will be a bar on the screen with the name of the attachment, icon for the type of file, size, and an arrow (>) on the right. Tap the bar to open the attachment.

    I am having the same problem with brand new Ipad Mini at my house.
    It connects to the WiFi fine - but will not pull an IP address in DHCP mode, or if I set all the IP info statically - it still will not get any network access.
    This doesn't look like a WiFi issue, as it does connect and is seen by the WiFi Access Point.  All the normal WiFi fix stuff doesn't help.
    - Using a Dlink DAP-2553 which is less than 2 months old. 
    Other devices connect fine, including Ipad 2.
    This same Mini worked fine at another house and also connected to a mobile hotspot fine....so seems to be some weird IP issue with maybe this Access Point or maybe the older Router that I have (older Netgear)?
    I am actually a network engineer and still have not been able to find a solution.  Both the Ipad Mini and the Dlink WAP have the latest firmware loaded.
    Wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

  • HT4061 How do I refresh the Find My iPhone map now that they have "upgraded" the product? There is no longer a refresh button.

    Until this week there was a button next to the device identification that allowed you to refresh the Find My iPhone map.  That button is now gone and I cannot see a way to refresh the map without exiting and reentering Find My iPhone.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    You need to go to the part where you see your device on the map and then there is a little refresh button next to the name of your device on the map page.

    I am posting this to see if anybody else have the same problem, and hopeful a solution as well.
    The problem is that iPhone map started from a 3ird party software does not use my current location by default. For example, I did a search for pizza in google search. The google app will give me a list of local pizza places in their page. But if I click on show all results, it brings up the map app and displays a few pizza places around the world. But shouldn't it give me results in my local area instead? At first, I thought this is a google problem. But I see the same problem later with another voice search app. Have anyone experience this with their iPhone?

    This forum is riddled with questions by users that cannot get their computer to do what they want, *despite* the fact they use a very precise and (usually) unambiguous method of telling it want they want it to do -- a programming language. Making it comprehend *natural* language is, by any way of measuring, a number of degrees more difficult.
    That said: in what way would a computer program (advanced or "dumb") be able to help the OP? Spell check is one -- but it's not a *fact* that anything written *badly* equals nonsense. In politics, for example, the most eloquent speakers still manage to make a fool of themselves :D The same goes for "grammar". Of course, bad grammar is more difficult to understand -- EVEN for a human. So a computer is bound to fail on that as well.
    Fact checking then? I usually can't even find what I want in one go with Almighty Google (which seems to turn things around: if it cannot find "enough" web pages with the exact phrase you asked it, it automatically assumes you are interested in synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and other *unrelated* stuff! Yeah THANK you but I want to find what I typed in!)
    A good starting point would be to define in more detail what this hypothetical software *ought* to do -- that needs to be a bit more concrete than "I want it to do my job for me."

    All you need to do is make a backup of your iPhone 5, either in iCloud or iTunes and then restore your new iPhone 6 to that backup. When you say you are getting this message about Find My iPhone, have you set that up already in the new phone? Importing photos from the iPhone to the computer does not require Find My iPhone, just an import utility on the computer, depending on your computer OS.

    There are so many people that have the problem of reporting issues that never get fixed. It is amazing a company with so many resources, can't follow a process of:
    acknowledging receipt of a reported issue (via automated mail)
    have a team that investigates whether genuine
    have a team that finds out what causing problem and have it rectified
    I understand that Apple may get numerous requests, but it is no excuse. They should do better. 1 person should be able to fix 100's of issues a day. As an Apple shareholder, and someone who has reported a pin misplacement virtually everyday since Apple maps was loaded on the iphone I find it disgusting. I just hope that Apple pulls it's finger out, and starts getting stuff fixed.
