Bookmark Toolbar will only show icons + text, not icons only

The bookmark Toolbar is displaying icons and text. I went to View/Toolbars/Customize and chose Display Icons, checked Use Small Icons, and saved. It did not change the toolbar, even after closing Firefox and restarting.

You can do this with the Smart Bookmarks Bar extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/smart-bookmarks-bar

I only want the favicons from an addon to appear on the bookmarks toolbar, not with the underlined text. How to do this?
This problem doesn't happen with any other toolbar. And this problem didn't happen with an earlier version of firefox. Please Help!
    Thanx, BassMann.

If you only want the favicons and not the names of the bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar, you can do that with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4072/ Smart Bookmarks Bar] add-on.

  • My bookmarks toolbar no longer shows up. View ⟶ Toolbars ⟶ Bookmarks Toolbar doesn't work. Also View ⟶ Toolbars ⟶ Customize doesn't bring up a dialogue box.

I can only see the contents of my bookmarks toolbar via History ⟶ Show All History. And I can't customize the toolbars because I can't bring up the dialogue box.
I'm also having trouble with the sidebar:
Two things I can't get to show in the sidebar are Bookmarks and History (View ⟶ Sidebar ⟶ Bookmarks and View ⟶ Sidebar ⟶ History). The shortcuts don't work either.
Two things I can get to show in the sidebar ScrapBook and Pocket, however, I can't close the sidebar via the top right cross, but have to go via the menu: View ⟶ Sidebar ⟶ Pocket / ScrapBook.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Firefox bookmarks toolbar doesn't show

Firefox's bookmarks toolbar doesn't show properly for me on start-up of FF and opening any new FF windows:
The top image is what my Firefox (3.0) looks like when I start it, the bottom image is what it should look like. However the bookmarks toolbar only shows if I right-click on the menubar to get that "Navigation toolbar/Bookmarks toolbar/Customize" little menu, then click Customize and once that customize window opens the bookmarks toolbar appears just fine as per the bottom image.
It's no biggie but wouldn't mind "fixing" this if it can be so, thanks for any help.

Ok, hm ... did you try

Since update to FF 16.0.1 the FF Start Page is blank, my bookmark toolbar doesn't show automatically + the navigation toolbars stays on the first url.
I uninstalled 16.0.1 and reinstalled 15.0.1 and everything worked fine so I reinstalled 16.0.1 and have the issues again.

hello shanonrs, can you try launching firefox in safe mode once and see if the issue is occurring there too? maybe an extension or theme is interfering here...

  • How can I get rid of the icons in my bookmarks toolbar without changing the icons to text in my navigation toolbar? I want text only in the bookmarks and icons only in navigation.

It seems that making changes in the toolbar preferences always affects all toolbars at once. Isn't there a way to just delete the icons so they aren't crowding up the bookmark toolbar? They serve no purpose. Most are just blank page icons.

  • The Bookmark Toolbar will not place the bookmarks I save on the toolbar underneath the address bar... help!?

I just recently reformatted my laptop and lost all of my old bookmarks, however i did back them up. when i restored the bookmarks, i was unable to put bookmarks under the adress bar (bookmark Toolbar)
    Help please!!! :(

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.<br />
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button
If you have a problem to create new bookmarks then a possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Bookmarks Toolbar no longer shows all items

I have just installed 7.0.1 (I can't call it an upgrade).
I can no longer see all entries in my Bookmarks Toolbar for 2 reasons:-
    1. It includes unnecessary icons which just take up space.
    2. There is a "Bookmarks" Tab which I do not want, but cannot delete. It just takes up space. I rarely, if ever, use Bookmarks because I have everything I use in folders in the Bookmarks Toolbar.
How do I remove these unwanted items?

    Try:

  • Having just installed the first patch on firefox 4 beta, I now find none of the folders in my bookmarks toolbar will open.

I have a series of folders in my bookmarks toolbar, which used to drop down when clicked. They are now inactive.
Additionally, I have just tried to click the help menu to copy and paste the troubleshooting info, only to discover none of the menus at the top of the page are working either.
    ?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Bookmark toolbar will not display icons only

downloaded the app to retain old look. In settings icons only is the default but still have the text.

Add code to the <b>userChrome.css</b> file below the default @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item:not([container]) > .toolbarbutton-text{display:none !important}
    </nowiki></pre>
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    * Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
    * Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in this folder (the names are case sensitive)
    * Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window and make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
    * Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css. Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

  • When i transfer a pdf to an emai, it shows as text not icon

When I try to transfer a pdf to an e-mail, it puts the test of the document into the e-mail rather than just the icon for the pdf.  How do I fix that?

Right click on the document in the message and click View as Icon. But you don't have any control over how the recipient sees it. That depends on their own email client.

  • My toolbar will only open when I press alt and then only the top line

the complete top toolbar is not visable on any web page. to use file print history or bookmark I have to press ALT. the top line then disapears when a website is chosen. I then have to repeat this for every bookmark choice.

  • I want my bookmarks to be on the side of the screen the way they always were! My bookmarks toolbar is just showing "Most Visited", "Getting Started", and "Latest headlines"- I want my old setup back! This didn't look like this a few hours ago-

I came home, Firefox posted a message that it had crashed, and my bookmarks are no longer visible and the bookmark bar isn't any help-

Actually, it's not obvious & common sense would dictate that users' bookmarks would not be left stuck to random computers even once they've logged out of the account. No one wants that if it's a public work computer or if they're traveling & use an Internet cafe. As I am not the only one who has noticed this issue or had bookmarks disappear/be deleted, in addition, common sense would indicate it's not really a very good system. And carrying around a flashdrive to run Firefox off of it is a good solution? Really? Just curious why a useful feature such as being able to login & use your preferences & bookmarks & then logging out removes your preferences when you're gone hasn't been developed. Yahoo keeps my preferences when I logout (it's called My Yahoo!). Maybe a My Firefox or My Chrome solution could be developed.

  • My bookmark tab will briefly show my bookmark list but then goes blank. Retry and get same issue.

i see the outline of the bookmark dropdown but it is blank inside. when the dropdown worked yesterday it left the listing of bookmarks at the bottom of the browser page and i could not get rid of them unless I closed the browser
