Bookmarked PDF's will not open in browser window

I just got the latest FF 3.6.6 and installed Nitro from Adobe so that I could open PDF's in the browser. Before upgrading, I could bookmark a PDF and it would still open it in the window. Now it wants to save it. How do I fix this? I bookmark a lot of PDF's because I don't want to save them on my computer, and I use them over and over for my writing.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I upgraded to 3.6 and got Nitro add on

1. Nitro is NOT an Adobe product.
2. It is an alternative to Adobe Acrobat.
3.It currently does not have the ability to display in a browser tab; see 3rd item below.
Company's web site: http://www.nitroreader.com/
User forum (click "Help" at the top of the Company's web site): http://community.nitropdf.com/nitropdf?from_gsfn=true
User forum thread; no in-browser display: http://community.nitropdf.com/nitropdf/topics/launching_pdfs_in_the_browser_window
You should be able to open PDF files from the internet directly in a separate Nitro window (not a tab in Firefox) if you change your settings on the Application panel (Tools > Options > Applications for "...PDF Document" content type(s). Read the following 2 articles carefully:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+file+types
http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions
The PDF file will NOT open within Firefox because no browser plugin is provided by the company, but instead will open the Nitro program in a separate window and display the PDF there.
Somewhat general instructions; I do not have Nitro, so I am guessing at some names and locations on your hard drive and what you will see on the Applications panel. In the Applications panel, use the pull down arrow (see step 4 in the above article, Managing File Types), click "Use Other".
-If Nitro IS on the pop-up list, click on Nitro, click OK.
-If Nitro is NOT on the pop-up list, click Browse, go to your installation folder for Nitro (probably on C: drive in your Programs folder), open the Nitro folder, double-click on the executable that will open the Nitro program; nitro.exe/nitroreader.exe (whatever the file is named; you might want to find and open the Nitro program before you begin the process to know the exact executable file name to double-click).

• Pdf links will not open in ie8 windows 7

I have installed, uninstalled Adobe Reader 10 and Internet Explorer. I have tried all the solutions listed in some other posts. PDF links will not open the files on some web sites, Fidelity.com in particular. I have reset IE8 Advanced Options and Advanced Options Reset, Created another Windows Administrative user, performed clean boot in Windows and run IE8 (no addons) from the accessory menu and unchecked the Display PDF in Browser box in preferences. None of these options have resulted in correcting the problem. Adobe Reader 10 works fine on the Fidelity web site in Firefox.

• Safari will not open a browsing window

I have a G4 tower running 10.3 and Safari 1.3.2
Each time I open Safari, it loads fine, but I get no browsing window. The menus work, I can quit, organize bookmarks and so on. But, I cannot get a window, File > New window, or Apple N, neither will give me a browser window. So, it is completely useless.
- I have done a clean archive and install of the 10.3 OS
- I have made a new user, same problem
- I have installed a few newer versions of Safari, these will not launch, they bounce in the dock, but do not open
- I have installed Firefox, and it works fine
So, this problem is worked around, but not solved.
I am a little confused, a clean install of the OS should give me a new copy of Safari, as well as all the support networking files. A new user, should eliminate all the preferences issues.
So, what other troubleshooting can I do to solve this?
TIA
mark

I ASSUME that when I do an Archive and Install, I automatically get fresh copies of the various basic Apple programs like Mail and Safari?
You do, but unless you use Software Update after that to bring your system current, you won't have Safari 1.3.2.
Perhaps you should try this:
1. Quit Safari if it's running.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
3. Go to Home/Library/Safari and:
*Delete any of these files you have there:*
• Downloads.plist
• History.plist
• LastSession.plist
*Remove this file:*
• Bookmarks.plist
4. Restart Safari and see if the problem is fixed.

• Safari 4.1.1 Will Not Open a Browser Window

When I open Safari it loads but no window appears. I've done all the things that this forum has told me to do including clearing the cache, resetting safari, and deleting the Webpageicons.db file. Still it will not open a window. If I try to open a bookmark it crashes.

Your problem may be with the Community Toolbar.
It's a terrible app/plugin that messes up Macs like the plague.
Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?
Here's how to search and destroy:
Close Safari.
Check here for CT Loader
Locate and delete:
HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
It may not be in every single location, but get it out where ever you find it.
Restart Safari. Any Better?

• Firefox will not open a browsing window, program opens, no window (4.0b5, Mac)

just started happening - i open firefox, menu up top opens but no window . . . tried opening new window, new tab, no dice

I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

• PDF files will not open in a Safari (v 6.0.5) browser window

PDF files will not open in a Safari (v 6.0.5) browser window, OS 10.8.5. Version 11.0.04 Adobe Reader and Plug-ins installed. Both local and internet files do not load. What is happening here?

Ok. I reloaded v 11.0.04 of Adobe Reader after quiting Safari 6.0.5 . Then deleted the 2 plug-ins AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin . Relaunched Safari and tried to read a pdf from a repository at the URL mentioned in post 10 . The file was loaded and displayed correctly. Also a pdf file from my local disk store displayed nicely as well. What I do not understand is that there is no listing of an Adobe plug in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins , nor does Safari list any Adobe plug ins. So in that case this means that plug-ins for the display of pdfs in Safari windows are no longer needed!
Adobe Reader version 11.0.04 is now working for me.
Thanks for the help and the solution C.F.McBlob

• Embedded pdf files will not open

Dell Laptop Windows XP up to date, Firefox 4.0, Adobe Reader 10.0.1
Since updating to Firefox 4.0 certain embedded pdf files will not open forcing me to use my Internet Explorer browser to access these files. Tried all of the FAQ suggestions with no relief.
NOTE: I can open previously opened files (Firefox 3.___) but not a new one.

Thank you for the response. I insereted several .pdf files into my MS Word document where they show as Acobat icons. When in MS Word, I am able to double-click on the icons and the files open in Acrobat. I then converted the MS Word document to a .pdf. These icons now only show as pictures and do not open the original inserted .pdf documents.

I have a good signal to the router and iPad works well. The PC will not open any browser (Firefox, explorer internet), and Thunderbird opens but will not connect and times out.

I have scanned the PC and have no virus or malware.
Any ideas of what to do next please?

You weren't very clear about what you are trying to do, but there is no Firefox for iOS devices - iPad and the iPhone.

• PDF documents will not open in Adobe Acrobat 5

I have one computer with XP running Acrobat 5. I now have a second computer running Windows 7 with Acrobat 9 Pro. When I take PDF documents from the computer with Acrobat 9 Pro to the one with Acrobat 5, the PDF docs will not open - an error message states the file is corrupted. Why is this hapening and how can it be fixed?
Thanks for any assistance - confused.

#1 - The files were moved using a thumb/USB drive and "Safely Remove" was used.
#2 - You may be on to something here for some: Some were created by AA9 but some others were scanned in and some were from AA8 that I had no trouble before.
#3 - The only "special feature" is that the PDF files are searchable and some are a PDF of an image.
These are basic PDF files.
Thanks for your assistance

• Pdf files will not open upon downloading

I download a lot of pdf docs for work and want them to open automatically upon download so I can screen them. Since upgrading to Safari 5.1, when I download files (which has gotten much more cumbersome) they do not automatically open upon download. Yes, I DO have the "open safe files after downloading" option checked in Preferences. Any other thoughts? A solution would be most helpful. (If anyone has a solution to how I can automatically download files as easily as in prior versions, that would be greatly appreciated also.)

• Pdf files will not open

Hi,
I have viewed through this forum and did not find a problem with similar symptoms.
I upgraded from Adobe Reader 8 to Reader 9 and then the .pdf files will not open.
Actions and Observations/Symptoms:
1) After I clicked onto the pdf document icon - nothing happens.
2) I right click onto the pdf icon and chose "open with Adobe 9" and get the same response. Nothing happens.
3) I go to the the start menu - select Adobe Reader 9 - and the program does not even open.
=======
I have since removed Reader 9 and re-installed Reader 8. I tried the above actions and got the same behaviour. Not a whole lot happens. It seems like something is broken after the first initial upgrade.
In fact - I went to the folder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader and
tried to open Reader by double clicking onto "AcroRd32.exe" and there was no response.
I'm completely lost! Can anyone share a fix to my problem?
Thanks,
Mike
Some hardware & OS background info: Toshiba Laptop - 1.58 Ghz, 3GB RAM - M/S Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

I can't explain the cause to the problem - but I found two "work-arounds" to get me running again.
Workaround #1:
I found another program (and there are many) on the web that will also read .pdf files. I downloaded "Foxit Reader" , installed it and it works. I can now view my pdf docs!
However - I got so used to Adobe Reader - I really wanted to get Reader working again.
Workaround #2:
I re-installed Adobe Reader 8.
Instead of running the usual Adobe installation script that I got from the web, I copied (from another PC's C-drive) the "Reader 8.0" folder and all its contents into my current C- drive directory structure C:\Program Files\Adobe\.
I re-booted the PC and can now open my pdf files using Reader 8.
It seems to work - but I don't know what the effects of this installation method will have in the future - or the interaction it will have with other programs. I guess when I need to remove the program in the future - I'll have to do it manually, since it doesn't even register in the "Add or Remove Programs" under Control Panel.
===============
Hope this helps out anyone else with similar symptoms.
In the original problem, it's unfortunate that there were no error messages whatsoever when I tried opening the pdf files. It was like as if Reader was not even activated or even loaded on my PC. I'll bug me for a while - but at least I got Reader working again (for now....)!
