Bookmarking in the Store

Hello Al
I kow Apple has artist alerts in the Music Store . . .
One feature I find anoying is if you having a good browse through the store and find something of interest., and want to make a bookmark, to come back at later date.
I just there was some feature in the Store to allow you to do, the amount of times I've found a song, artist of interest and never been able to find it again on the store.
Anyone tihnk it would useful?

You could create a new playlist and call it 'Wishlist' or something like that.
When browsing through the iTunes Store, you can drag a song of interest to that 'Wishlist'.
Later, you can click on the small arrow next to it's name which brings you right back to that song in the Store.
Alternatively, you can copy the URL in the iTunes Store of any song, artist or album.
Just control-click (or right-click) on the song, artist or album and choose 'Copy iTunes Store URL'. Then paste it in another application (text editor, mail, bookmarks in Safari).
I've found creating a 'Wishlist' a fast and easy way to go back to songs I wanted to review again.
Copying and pasting the URL in an email application is an easy way to let others know of the existence of certain songs, artists or albums.
Hope this helps.

  • Use Firefox Sync to store bookmarks in the cloud?

Can I setup Firefox Sync even if I only have one device? If so, can I use Firefox Sync to backup my bookmarks to the cloud (instead of using a third-party extension?) I'm guessing that Sync stores bookmarks in the cloud because how else would it be able to merge bookmarks with another device (e.g., a phone)?

Sync does indeed store the data you choose to Sync in the cloud.
Because you need to retain a lengthy unique code in order to recover that data from a different installation of Firefox, many users find it not to be a good method of backup because that Recovery Key was lost in a hard drive crash or reformat. Make sure you store the key in a safe location outside of your computer along with your username and password.
If you end up choosing to use a different cloud backup service such as Crashplan or Carbonite, you can point it to your bookmarkbackups folder so you have a number of files for potential recovery. To get the full path to that hidden folder, the easiest way is to access it from within Firefox.
You can open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Double-click bookmarkbackups. You should see numerous files that are date and time coded. You can click after the folder name in the address bar to select and copy the path. (This is based on Windows 7, but I assume Windows 8.1 is similar from the desktop side.)

How do I save and import my bookmarks from another hard drive? When I try to open the installed Firefox on the old drive, it (obviously) opens a browser from the new main drive, free of bookmarks. Is there a way I can save the bookmarks on the old drive without opening a browser?
The guts of my computer were rearranged and I got a new main hard drive. My old one is still in there and I can get stuff from it, but when I go to the Mozilla folder on the old one, I can't figure out if there's anything I can do to get all my bookmarks from that drive to my new one, where Firefox is newly installed.

If you open Firefox then Firefox will always use the default profile folder as found via profiles.ini on your system drive.
You either need to import the file in your current default profile or copy the file to your current profile folder while Firefox is closed.
Firefox 3 stores the bookmarks and the browser history in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/places.sqlite places.sqlite] and no longer creates an HTML backup by default.
There are also (five) JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder within the Firefox profile folder.
You can either copy the file places.sqlite to your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] or import the most recent JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder of that old profile.

"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.

  • How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmark toolbar permanently and delete it from the Recntly Bookmarked list?

It seems to me that in a previous version of Firefox that one could add a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar and have it stay there.
I like to keep things neat and tidy. Now when I delete this bookmark from the Recently Bookmarked list (or the Unsorted Bookmarks list), Firefox insists only deleting it from the Bookmarks Toolbar as well.
How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmarks toolbar and keep it there? Am I required to keep it in the Recently Bookmarked and/or Unsorted Bookmarks list in order to have it remain on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

    * "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
    * Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
    * Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
    * If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
    * If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.

  • I have two versions of my bookmarks under the bookmarks menu

I have 2 versions of my bookmarks in the bookmarks window - one after the other, but I can only access the first one in "show all bookmarks" Unfortunately, the second one is the one that is being updated when I save new sites. How can I get rid of the first version that shows up when I try to access bookmarks from the bookmarks menu?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

    Hi,
The '''places.sqlite''' file in your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] stores the bookmarks and the history. This is what you see in '''Bookmarks''' ('''Alt''' + '''B''') and '''History''' ('''Alt''' + '''S''') or in the window of '''Show All History''' ('''Ctrl''' + '''Shift''' +'''H''') and '''Show All Bookmarks''' ('''Ctrl''' + Shift + '''B'''). The '''bookmarkbackups''' folder in your profile contains dated backups of just the bookmarks which shows up in '''Import and Backup''' > '''Restore''' section of the '''Show All History''' / '''Show All Bookmarks''' window.

  • So all the bookmarks I've "bookmarked" for the past year are just gone - I have a mac, how do I go back & retrieve everything I've ever bookmarked on Firefox?

So all the bookmarks I've "bookmarked" for the past year are just gone - I don't understand why Firefox just doesn't automatically save every bookmark you make each session & put them in a place so you can organize them ... maybe there's some extra step you can take every session to force firefox to do this - I don't know what that is - but am also a bit aggravated that there has to be an extra step to do this - Internet Explorer just auto saves everything you bookmark, why can't Firefox - I see this as a big disadvantage to Firefox that needs to be made much simpler ... I have a mac, how do I go back & retrieve everything I've ever bookmarked on Firefox?
I think all the details are sufficiently covered in the question (which then in filling out the help form Firefox quite sillily made me shorten so I reposted the whole thing in this comment above - just another unnecessary step, seems to be the Firefox norm)
And btw the articles on lost bookmarks, saving bookmarks, etc. - were not helpful at all. Very not helpful. Almost anti-helpful.
I generally like Firefox & use it all the time, but this one area as to bookmarks is very frustrating & causing me to seriously consider not using Firefox at all & switching back to Internet Explorer or another browser like Google Chrome. What's the point of bookmarking something (which by itself indicates you are wanting to save the site link so you can re-find & re-visit it in the future) if Firefox just auto deletes all your bookmarking everytime it starts up? Just a completely user-unfriendly idea.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • Why when i buy books on my ipad, when i log onto the store it does not show that i have purchased them?

Why when i buy books on my ipad, when i log onto the store it does not show that i have purchased them?
how many books and songs were therefore lost when i had to wipe my ipad?
this is SHOCKING from Apple... this is not in my domain of settings!!!

In the iBooks application on the Mac, there is a checkbox to sync highlights and notes across devices.
I don't see a similar setting in the iBooks app on my iPad.  It may require iBooks on the Mac as a mediator.
    Also:
Can I highlight text and make notes?
Yes, iBooks includes built-in Highlight and Note features. Highlight any word or passage of text within a book. You can also create a Note from your highlighted selection. Review your Highlights and Notes by tapping the Table of Contents button and then tapping Bookmarks. Highlights and Notes appear in their own section under Bookmarks.

  • I open a new tab, and click on the bookmark in the bookmark toolbar, and the web site opens in a side bar. I want it to open in the full tabbed window.

I love Firefox, but this problem is frustrating me. I want to go to a favorite site and have bookmarked it. When I click on that bookmark, the site opens in a sidebar! How do I make it open in the full tab window?

You can edit the properties of that bookmark to fix this.
If you right-click it and choose Properties, you will check a checkbox toward the bottom of the dialog that opens the bookmark in the sidebar. Uncheck that and click Save.
    Does it work?
(When you use a link on a website to store a bookmark, they get added this way. You can use Ctrl+d or the "star" in the location bar to add the bookmark without having it open in the sidebar.)

If you know which computer you want you can order it online at the online Apple Store. As for learning your new computer Apple provides many online tutorials for people make the switch from a PC. Here are some starter sites that I'd recommend you bookmark and use.

If you prefer to purchase directly from a brick and mortar Apple Store you are very fortunate to live in the Bay Area, where there are many stores to choose from. When you arrive tell the receptionist you want to purchase an iMac and they will have help you get a sales professional to help you. You can also use the new system Apple implemented this past week at any of the display counters to request a sales person come to you. Again the receptionist can help you get started on that too. Once a system is purchased and you buy the one on one service the one one one service is executed where it's more quiet than inside the store. I frequent the Valley Fair store in Santa Clara on occasion, this store is extremely busy and I see people receiving one on one service all the time within the mall at dedicated tables.

  • Why do my bookmarks in the toolbar change places

After the update to FF 7.0 the bookmarks in my toolbar changed places. I put them back to the order that I'm used to and want to have them in, but all of a sudden they changed places again. I tried to get them in my order again, but again they changed. And the next time too.
What I am most fascinated about is that they get the same places ever time they change, but I can't see any logic in 'your' order of the bookmarks.
Why do they change places? I want my bookmarks in my order again.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history to makes Firefox restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup.
