Bookmarks and Navigation

Hi all,
I am trying to add bookmarks to my form and have the bookmark navigation tab appear by default from within Livecycle Designer 7.1
This is straightforward in Adobe Acrobat Standard but there seems to be no way to achieve this from Designer. There is no mention in the help documentation and a Google search yields only people asking the same question with no answer. There is no mention of bookmarking in the XFA specification either.
Importing a PDF with existing bookmarks seems to remove them so I'm wondering if bookmarks are even supported?
Thanks

I have looked into this issue and I think it's not possible:
If you add bookmarks in Acrobat Standard/Pro there are removed when you open the PDF in Livecycle Designer.
If you add them dynamically using javascript, as discussed <a href="http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc098fd">here</a>, and the bookmarkRoot object it won't work in Reader so this is not an option in reality
Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

  • History, bookmarks and navigation have stopped working in firefox 3.6.8 for mac

    Firefox 3.6.8; Mac OS 10.5.8
The history function doesn't record anything; all my bookmarks are gone; I can't make any new bookmarks either. I tried safe mode, nothing changed. My forward/back arrows go away some times too. I tried reinstalling firefox and repairing permissions. I found the bookmarks file but it is the default one - not mine. Even the default firefox bookmarks won't show up! What is the problem?

You need to use the command line switch -safe-mode in the Terminal to start Firefox 3.6 versions in Safe Mode.

  • Is it possible to add a shortcut to one or two very select websites to the navigational toolbar for convenient, one-click entry (i.e., which toolbar currently has buttons for viewing bookmarks and browsing history)?

I would just like to be able to click once to get to one or two very important websites, just as I can now click once to show my viewing history (or scrapbook) in the sidebar.

That's what the bookmarks toolbar is for.
But putting single bookmarks there can fill it up quickly. Rather than a keyboard shortcut you can create a '''keyword shortcut''' for the bookmark, and that bookmark can be anywhere and out of sight. I keep all (most) of my keyword bookmarks in one folder on my bookmarks toolbar with the name beginning with the keyword. Here is an example, next door neighbor liked it for their netbook used at TV
'''Name:''' tv: TV Listings - Find Local TV Shows and Movie Schedules - Listings Grid | TVGuide.com
    '''Location:''' http://www.tvguide.com/Listings/
    '''Keyword:''' tv:
'''Description:''' PPP (User must be custom TV choices at Yahoo/TVGuide), start with zipcode (uncheck timezone), uses cookies, do for not logged in and for logged in. Must be logged in to pick your favorite channels to reduce list size.

  • I tried to open a bookmark and it opened in an active window as a frame, not a separate tab or window. What's going on?

I've been having problems with Firefox hanging (seems related to Flash on a particular website). Through hours of troubleshooting yesterday, including on the phone with my ISP's help desk, it was recommended I "refresh" Firefox. I've done that before, and I did it yesterday again. This morning I opened Firefox to my home page (my ISP's portal), checked my email, logged out of email, closed that tab, opened two other forums and Photobucket--three tabs open in the window--to post photos and contribute to discussions in both forums. When done, I logged out of both forums and Photobucket, closed each tab separately, then quit Firefox. (While in Photobucket, Flash crashed several times....but that's not unusual with Photobucket in my experience. It's a different problem I am still dealing with....but forget it right now....) As part of yesterday's "refresh", I set Firefox to empty the cache and cookies and other files upon quitting.
Later in the day today, I opened Firefox, my ISP's portal opened as usual and expected (my "Home page"). Sometimes, rather than close that window/tab, I just open a bookmark and it opens in that same window, but replacing the previous window and its contents. That is normal operating procedure for me. You know, rather than having two windows open where I'll have to close the first one, I just have the bookmark open in place of the original window/contents.
Today (and it's happened before today, but only infrequently), the bookmarked page opened as if it was a frame in the active window....that is, my ISP's portal occupies about 3/4 of the window, but over on the left side of the window (not another tab or window, but in the very same window) is a slender partial view of the bookmarked page. This new web page--totally unrelated to the original page--has a scroll bar at the bottom, but can't be made to fill the window....the previously opened web page acts as a barrier to seeing the "new" frame/web page. While I can grab the right border of this "new frame" and drag it to the right, it still can't push the "old" original web page out of the way....the old page reaches some minimum limit and I get a split screen view of two entirely different web sites contained in exactly the same active window.
The "new" frame has an "x" in the upper right corner, so I could close it.....but my question is, why did it open in a completely different company's web page/window....how can two web pages from completely different organizations/companies/websites occupy the same active window in Firefox? I have screenshots.....attached. And, oh yes, besides the HOW and WHY of it, how can it be prevented (or is the best thing to just right click and open it in a new tab or window.....??????) That still doesn't satisfy me....I'm someone who needs to know WHY something happened that should not have happened. It makes me crazy when something strange happens and the "solution" is to change MY behavior. (You know, like if YOU were the problem, but I have to change MY behavior instead of fix what's wrong with YOU.....when fixing YOU might render the entire situation obsolete.)
Thanks for whatever you can suss out.....

You do not have the properties in the Bookmarks Manager (Library), but you should have it if you right-click a bookmark the Bookmarks Toolbar or in the bookmarks sidebar.
On Mac you probably do not have it if you right-click an item in the Bookmarks menu (this menu is under control of the Mac OS), but I assume that this should work if you click the "Show your bookmarks" button on the Navigation Toolbar that is next to the star to bookmark the current tab and right-click an item in the bookmarks list that opens.

  • Controlling the page view between initial view, bookmarks and links

I have a 300 page InDesign document with links, buttons and bookmarks. The client wants it to open at an initial view of 50%. All of the other navigation is set to Inherent Zoom. This works well except the bookmarks which automatically switch to fit in window. (The bookmarks were made in InDesign). This happen whether they are used from the nav buttons (set as anchors) or using the side panel bookmarks for navigation.
If I go back and try to reset the view in bookmark properties in Acrobat it seems to add the 2 magnifications together.
Is there a way to set the bookmark to be at 50%? I tried going back to InDesign to set the bookmark when the magnification is at at certain % but that didn't seem to work either.

  • Firefox 4 initially worked fine, but after a back-up and restoration (now on a hybrid disk) it cannot find the bookmarks and crashes when I attempt to open the HTML file

I installed Firefox 4 on my 2010 13" MBP, standard configuration. It worked fine except that it didn't recognize any of the add-ons I was using and, to be frank, I don't like the interface as much as v.3. But ...
Then I backed up the entire HD, wiped the HD, removed it and replaced it with a Seagate hybrid HD. I then booted from the b/u and installed the entire HD contents on the new hybrid HD. Everything runs fine except for one thing -- Firefox 4 now will not recognize my bookmarks.
I tried reinstalling FF4 but this made no difference.
I did the b/u and restoration with Carbon Copy Cloner which I have used successfully for many b/u and restore operations on this and the white MB I previously owned.
Uh oh! I just tried to save a new bookmark (of this page) and it did not save -- or at least, it did not show in the "Show all Bookmarks" pane.
HOWEVER, when I start typing in a URL, it FF4 comes up with the completed URL in a flash. e.g. I typed "wiz" and FF4 showed me the completed URL (which should be in my Toolbar bookmarks and which I visit t least once daily).

  • How do I get back my bookmarks and history which disappeared after downloading critical Windows Updates?

On 10/16/14 I downloaded 11 critical Windows Updates (I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro).
All updates ran successfully, but after the updates, Firefox would not run. Instead I got the error “Couldn’t Load XPCOM”. Internet Explorer was working. I reinstalled Firefox . I did not delete it and then reinstall it, I just downloaded Firefox.
That worked and I can now use Firefox, but I have several other problems:
    • I lost all my Bookmarks
    • I lost some of my History. I can only view history for “Today” and “Yesterday” in the Library. I am missing “Last 7 days” (except for 10/16 and later) and “This Month” history view.
I have been trying to research how to fix this on my own for the past several days, even though I am very non-tech savy.
I tried the following, but none of these things has corrected the bookmarks or history problem:
    • I did a System Restore to 10/13/14
    • I tried to do a System Restore to 10/12/14. I got the error “Did not complete successfully. Unspecified error 0x8000ffff”.
    • I reset Firefox to its default state.
    • I tried to change the Privacy setting for Firefox history from “Remember History” to “Use custom setting for history” followed by checking “Remember my browsing and download history”, “Remember search and form history”, and “Accept cookies from site”. I am unable to change this. It always reverts back to “Remember History”.
I located only one Profile Manager, which I found by going through the Windows start menu with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" –p.
I found "bookmarkbackups" under my Profile Folder. The oldest bookmark folder listed is from 10/16/2014.
Could someone please help me get all my Bookmarks and History back from before the 10/16/2014 updates? Thank you.

Hi askmozilla, yes, the Previous Versions tab in the Properties dialog for the places.sqlite files in the oldest of those folders.
I'm not sure whether Windows can match that file up with earlier restore points once the folder is moved from its original location to the desktop.
I wonder whether there is any way to access the restore point created on 10/16 just before Windows installed the updates. That really would be the best place to look if possible.

  • Upgraded to V 4; destroyed all my bookmarks and will not reload them? Just goes into 'not respnding' mode.

When I upgraded to beta Version 4.12 (?) the latest available anyway. At first the bookmarks tab would not work; nothing happened when I clicked on it. So could not access bookmarks and could not create new ones.
This seemed to correct itself yesterday; but now have lost all my bookmarks in total. It gives me the option to recover them; but when I try Firefox locks up; mouse turns to circulating circle and message at top of browser is 'not responding'.
This also causes memory resources to 'red line' and makes computer unusable.
CPU resources seem not to be affected.
I am using the 'SAM Find' add on tool bar; it was swamped with links to bookmarks I have never used when I upgraded. They have now been deleted and my tool bar seems to work as it was before I upgraded
I have two computers - Laptop (the focus of this Question) and a Desktop; both configured the same way. I upgraded the desktop to the beta when it was first available; it provides no upgrade path to the latest version without me physically downloading and installing the latest version. That I did yesterday.
Having done that I now have addon's on my laptop like InboxQ that work fine; but on desk top get message 'this version of Firefox does not support...'
While I am aware and understand this is a beta version I a discovering a number of inconsistencies in what I can do one one computer that I am unable on the other, even though I am running the same versions of the beta. To my knowledge both are setup the same and both running in the same environments.
I have to say I am less than happy not being able to access my book marks.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • "Bookmarks and history system will not be functional" with corrupt files found by Avast and websites loading slow ONLY in Firefox

Firefox is the only browser that lets me connect with my microphone. I need to use this feature for an online class. Earlier this evening, the message prompting me to allow or deny the class website permission to use the microphone stopped appearing, and without it the recording won't pick up any sound and I can't record anything.
I tried exiting and restarting Firefox. I had some extensions in use at the time, in particular Session Manager. The allow/deny message still wouldn't appear, so I restarted my computer.
Now when I open Firefox I see the "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message. In addition, the browser loads websites extremely slowly; it takes several minutes to load each page or for me to be able to click on anything (the URL bar, the menus, etc) My other browsers (Internet Explorer and Chrome) are running normally and load websites at a normal speed. I tried downloading the latest version of Firefox but it didn't fix anything. I also tried restarting the computer again but that didn't help either.
I ran my Avast software system check and it turned up that the following files under "C:\Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Irozixj7.default" are "corrupted and unreadable":
    -cookies.sqlite-shm
    -cookies.sqlite-wal
    -localstore.rdf
    -places.sqlite-shm
There was one more problem on the scan, but it probably isn't relevant: for the file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates\{9A2C6FA7-E04E-4819-B86A-8363A9D1E42A}\mpengine.dll" it says "The system cannot find the path specified." When I attempted to follow the path indicated, one of the folders (I can't remember which) said something along the lines of "You can't access this folder, do you want to permanently allow access to this folder?" I said yes and was able to access the folder.
I have tried to add the Places Maintenance extension but the speed is too sluggish to download anything. Trying to access any of the menus results in the browser freezing for several minutes then unfreezing but with the menu still unopened. Therefore none of the solutions found here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?esab=a&as=aaq) seem to work.
    My questions are as follows:
-Is it possible to figure out what caused the problem in the first place?
-Is there a way for me to fix it without losing my bookmarks and history?
-How can I avoid this happening again in the future?

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder. To quickly access this folder:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Next, keep this folder open, exit Firefox, and try moving the "corrupted and unreadable" files to a different folder. With the exception of localstore.rdf, which stores window positions, toolbar customizations, and other nonessential data, the other files appear to be session-specific files that hopefully are not critical. If you restart Firefox, does it behave more normally?
If not, try creating a fresh Firefox profile. It will have the Flash plugin, which is the control sites usually use to connects your camera and/or microphone, and other plugins, but otherwise will be a new setup. This article has the steps for starting up in the Profile Manager: [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]].
If sites work normally in the new profile, you can import your bookmarks from your old profile, as well as copying over other files that don't seem to be causing the problem. Some trial and error might be required to determine that. This article has some tips: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].
If the new profile is no better, you can exit Firefox and use the Profile Manager to switch back to your original profile.
    Any improvement?
