Bookmarks and reading list problems

Since the iOS7 upgrade, I've been unable to save bookmarks or add to the reading list.  The problem seems localized to my iPad, as Safari functions normally on other devices.  Suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.

If you see a black bar at the top, Private Browsing is enabled. You have to turn it off.

  • Safari 7 Bookmarks and Read List Not Synching with iCloud

Safari does not synch bookmarks or reading list with iCloud.  Cloud tabs does work. Everything else works.
When I turn the sync setting on/off in iCloud (control panel) it asks me if I want to merge and I say yes each time.  No change.  I can add bookmarks normally.
I did the checklist Apple suggests - and made sure I was linked to teh right account, have internet access, ect... The only thing I can not confirm is port numbers - but this machine is at work, next to my other iMac that is working perfectly (on Mavs too)
So far I've done each of these 2-5 times each:
    Restarted
    Reset all in Safari Pref
    Cleared all extensions
Unlinked my iCloud account in Control Panel>iCloud - Safari
Unlinked the entire account and deleted everything (3 times)
Deleted all traces of Safari; library, plsit, etc. (except the program - not allowed)
    re-linked to Keychain (3 times)
    Out of ideas
    Any suggestions appreciated
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks in advance

Having the same problem as you David, I've just about gone nuts trying to solve it but Bookmarks and Reading Lists are not syncing across my iPad Mini, iPhone and Mac. When I've dug into the console files on my Mac it's reporting that the SafariDAVClient is crashing like a fiend, seems to be trying to access a file that either doesn't exist or was moved o_O
Anyone have any ideas? I've also resorted to Apple's recommendations as well as to solutions posted around the forums, with no luck whatsoever. I've even edited and purged my bookmarks down to only the stuff I really think I should keep. Also tried to keep it empty and adding a fresh new bookmark. Nada...

Your bookmarks file may be corrupt. Navigate to /[UserName]/AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/[profile_name]. Either rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.corrupt (or whatever) in case this isn't the problem, or delete places.sqlite. Start/Restart Firefox. The icons for sites that have a favicon should return after you visit each site.

  • Recovering bookmarks and reading list after upgrading to OS X Mavericks; no help from Time Machine

    Hi,
I upgraded to OS 10.9 Mavericks today. Everything seems fine thus far, except for Safari's bookmarks and reading list. Bizarrely, ONE of my old bookmarks was left on the bookmarks bar, while all other bookmarks (except those pre-loaded by Apple) and the entire reading list are wiped.
I'm aware of the path for finding the plist (~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist) — however: Time Machine won't let me go back to before the OS X upgrade. The windows all backups before the upgrade are completely black. As far as I can tell, this goes for all files, not just those in the Library.
My browsing history was preserved. Also, I head iCloud enabled for Safari.
    I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)

  • IOS7 bookmarks and reading list won't delete

After update I cannot delete any bookmarks or reading list items.  I swipe left and get the DELETE button, but nothing happens.  The bookmark in the edit mode will return with no change, the reading list item is similar.  No new reading list items can be added.  I am on IOS 7.0.4
I've tried a hard restart, no change.

I used the following fix and it worked as described - basically you need to replace the file "bookmarks.db" with a clean, empty file.

  • How can I recover bookmarks and reading list?

Firefox crashed as soon as I tried to use it so I uninstalled it and installed it back again, but all the bookmarks and pages on my Reading List are gone. Is there a way to get them back?

    Hello,
Sorry to hear that you lost what you wanted to keep a track of. Did you have Firefox sync on? With that you can be able to restore your bookmarks but apart from that it's impossible to my knowledge that you'll be able to restore deleted bookmarks.

  • Safari on my PC (5.1.7) the bookmarks and reading list no longer sync with my IOS7 devices?? Have Apple ended it?

Anybody know if Apple have stopped this happening?

Open the iCloud Panel on your PC. Deselect the box next to Booksmarks then reselect it.
On your iOS devices, tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Safari off then back on.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

  • How to undo Safari copying bookmarks, history, favorites, and reading list from Macbook Pro to iMac after Yosemite update?

I just updated my iMac 27inch Mid 2011 to Yosemite 10.10.2.  I have a Macbook Pro that I primarily use for everyday stuff. I upgraded to Yosemite a while ago on my macbook. Now that I upgraded my iMac, it transferred everything saved in Safari on my macbook pro to my iMac. My favorites, history, bookmarks, and reading list were copied over. This is driving me nuts! I had a separate set of data saved on the iMac because I use it for different purposes. All of the original bookmarks, favorites, history, etc. on my iMac are now gone. I logged out of iCloud (which was a feature I did not enjoy when upgrading to Yosemite) yet all of the safari data from my laptop is still cloned onto my iMac. Please tell me there is a way to undo this or refresh safari pre-Yosemite update!
    Thank you!

Then there's no way to recover the lost data. You will lose every bit of data you have if you don't start backing up.

  • Syncing iPad/iPhone Reading List Problem

    iPad 3 - 16GB iOS 8.2
    iPone 4 - iOS 7.1.2
    iCloud - 3.1GB available
    2 issues:
         1. Reading list is not being synced between devices. If a bookmark is added to the reading list in the iPad, it does not sync to the iPhone (vice versa).
         2. Adding bookmarks to the reading lists on both devices takes a long time. If I add a bookmark, I then have to wait at least 30 mins before adding another. If I      try to add one sooner, I get the warning message: "Bookmarks are being synced. Please add the bookmark once syncing has completed."
This is a new problem that has cropped up for me only in the last few months. Prior to this, reading list/bookmarks syncing was working fine.

Bookmarks are not syncing to ONE of my Macs, but showing up on other Mac (work), iPhone 4 and iPad 1. Macs are on Mountain Lion. Tried all of Apple's suggestions - and the one Mac is still not updating/syncing Bookmarks or Reading List. What's going on? Do I have to wait to OS update? It seems lots of peolple were having issues before ML, but I as fine. Since ML, I am having all kinds of issues!

Yeah, I literally have tried everything except deleting my iCloud account (I'm close, but that would require so many changes that it is way too painful to consider at this point).
I am still waiting to hear back from Apple Support. Hopefully something can be done, or they can do a reset on their end.
Thanks for taking the time to respond though, much appreciated!

  • Reading list problem

I had previously updated Safari in Snow Leopard and Reading List worked fine. After upgrading to Lion, all is well except readign list - when I activate it, the window slides over to view the list, but mearly duplicates the existing window multiple times - resembling a fanned out deck of cards ( see attached image). I cannot view my reading list. Yes, I have restarted Safari and re-booted several times.

I had this exact same problem less than a few days ago and the way to resolve this issue (well it worked for me) is to do the following.
With Safari open click the Safari tab to show the option of reset Safari.
Click on reset Safari and then your be displayed with a window that askes if you "Are sure you want to reset Safari?"
Before reseting Safari you may want to uncheck some of the boxes, I unchecked the reset top sites and my auto fill form text.
when you are happy with your unchecked or checked selection then click the Reset button.
Safari will reset its self and reopen a fresh.
You should now be all fixed.
I closed Safari at this stage and then reoped it and my reading list was fixed and still all my reading items where as I left them before I had the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Favourites and Reading list

1.My device is iPad mini with retina display and O.S.No. 7.1.2.
2.When I open Safari web page,The  Favourites and Reading list disappeared.
Kindly,Suggest what Settings, I have to adjust in the settings.

Try this for starters. Close Safari and reset the iPad. See if the Favorites and Reading list reappear.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Safari app then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • From profile backup: Restoring bookmarks, most visited pages and reading list

Using the firefox mobile extension "Copy Profile" I have saved a copy of my profile to the sd card. Now I would like to restore selectively:
    - bookmarks
    - history
    - reading mode saved pages
    - most visited pages
While restoring the relevant files (using root access on android) helped, I am suffering from these probems:
    - The order of the bookmarks is mixed up: I had ordered them with the desktop app. Where is this order stored?
    - The "most visited pages" appears to be a random selection from the history.
    Any ideas?

Solution was to copy the files mentioned here:
[[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
    And here:
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/950536 Extracting bookmarks from Android mozilla profile backup]
    Important:
The file ownership of all files copied back into the profile directory have to be adjusted. On my machine they defaulted to "root" owner which prevented firefox from accessing them.

  • Reading List problems since iOS 8

I have been using reading list to read articles when there's no wi-fi available. The problem is, since I have upgraded to iOS 8, my articles just won't open, instead I get an error message saying: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted.". I have checked, and they are downloaded, and I am experiencing the same issue on my iPhone too. Is anyone experiencing the same issue, or know how to solve it?

    Hi Kinger84,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the nature and scope of the issues you are describing. If you are having multiple issues after a recent update to iOS 8, you may want to first try resetting your device:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still having issues after a reset, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring the apps or your data. You may find the following article helpful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
