Bookmarks and Tabs arent opening!

I'm using Firefox nightly 15.0a1 and when I updated the build this morning to the (2012-05-03) none of my bookmarks will open and I can't even open a new tab. Nor can I access my add-ons to try disable them to see if they are causing the problem. The only thing I can load up is the home page and use the interent but I can't do anything else and it's extremely frustrating!

Are you using the Tab Utilities add-on? What you are describing is a known problem with that add-on and the latest nightly builds. The author is working on an update to fix it.
To get Firefox working again you can disable all add-ons. To do that in the help menu select "Restart with add-ons disabled", then in the dialog box that appears select "Disable all add-on" and click "Make changes and restart".
You can then use the add-ons manager to re-enable add-ons. If you have Tab Utilities you can re-enable all other add-ons. If you do not have Tab Utilities you will need to experiment with enabling add-ons to find what one is causing the problem.

  • My bookmarks and tabs disappeared. Tried to import them from bookmark list, now they are completely gone.

My issue began after I had a "Blue Screen of Death" on my laptop. Since then, all of my internet settings aren't correct and Firefox does not load for several minutes (longest was 30 min). All of my bookmarks and tabs were gone when I finally got Firefox to open. I just tried to (Ctrl + Shift + B), all my bookmarks were there, however when I tried to import them, nothing happened and they've disappeared.
Prior to Ctrl+Shift+B I had reloaded a previous version of Firefox. Yesterday I loaded the current version...still no help to my bookmarks/settings.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • How can I click on a bookmark and have it open a new page? When I click a bookmark it always opens right in the sidebar, all my bookmarks disappear and I am left with two seperate pages?

I keep my bookmarks open at all times in the sidebar. If I want to go to a site, say Google, I must do a right click on the bookmark and then click on "Open In A New Tab" then the google page opens in a new tab.
I want to skip the second click. I want to be able to simply left click the google booknark in the sidebar and have google open in a new tab.
the way things are now, when I simply do a left click on the google bookmark the new google tab opens in tne sidebar itself. My bookmarks disappear from the sidebar and the google page is opened in the sidebar. So at this point I have two active page open at the same time.
Is there a way to simply left click the bookmark in the sidebar and have the bookmark open as a regular page?
Please pardon my clumsiness as I have only today used FireFox for the first time.

Opening in the Sidebar is the default action for bookmarks that are created via a "Bookmark this Page" link or button on a website. Make sure you use the many "Bookmark this Page" methods that are in Firefox instead.
Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

  • FF4 problems - bookmark multiple tabs, cursor, open in new tab

What's happened to being able to bookmark multiple tabs - I don't need it often but it's really useful when I do. I can't find it in FF4.
I'm having a problem with my webmail. I used to access the password field with a single click, now I have to click twice before the cursor is active. I run into this problem multiple times a day.
Open link in new tab: in FF4 I keep opening a new window by mistake - it's really annoying. Why was the position of this command changed in the shortcut menu. I use the command many times a day and my brain is too old to adapt easily.
Likewise the refresh button has moved. I use this button countless times a day - it's really annoying to find that I can no longer automatically refresh a page.

The reload button is now on the end of the location bar (where you type web addresses ) by default. It isa stip button whilsta page loads, and a reload button after a page has loaded. There are also options to use completely separate reload and stop buttons, or to add a button to the toolbar that changes between the stop and reload functions.
The changes may be made without adding any extension, the option used to be called customise (in my en-uk) or customize (en-US) and is now available from
    * Firefox Button -> Options -> toolbar layout ...
    * or by right clicking an empty space on a toolbar
Note the order of the buttons determines whether it displays as a merged button, or as separate stop and reload buttons.

  • Force bookmarks nav tab to open for a PDF

    Hi everyone,
I'm creating a nice PDF with bookmarks, but if the people I send it to don't have the bookmarks navigation tab then they don't realise they can navigate my document easily.
Is it possible for me to create a PDF that automatically turns on the Bookmarks navigation tab when it opens?
    Cheers,
    Stuart

I am having the same problem. I am using 8.1 and create my PDF and then set my Initial View to "Bookmarks Panel and Page". The I save the PDF. When I open it at my desktop, the bookmark panel opens along side the document. Nice. But when i post it on the web the bookmarks panel does NOT open.
    Can anybody tell me why?

  • Updated and now it has lost all my history and bookmarks and won't open

I updated Firefox on 9/18/11. No problems until yesterday 9/22/11. I opened firefox and a window came up saying something like -oops, how embarrassing, we lost all your bookmarks and saved pages. That was bad but then it also wouldn't open anything after that and the rainbow wheel came up and the app did not respond further. I've tried: turning the computer off and on, deleting and re-installing firefox. I called AppleCare and they suggested I call you. I have a MacBook Air. Please help.

Thank you. I did just what you said and on my computer(sadly not an MacBook :( ) and I saw my things were still there. I "turned off" the iTouch and everything came back. But I did notice that every once in a while(it has happened 3 times within 15 days) my info(notes/contacts/calendar events/reminders/ and even access to my e-mail's junk folder) disappears randomly. Is there anything I should do to prevent it from doing that?

  • I cancelled bookmarks, and it still opens a tab every time I log in. Please make it stop!!!

I canceled 'x marks' and it still pops up whenever I open firefox. I'm sick of it!!!

What is the value of the pref plugins.update.notifyUser on the <b>about:config</b> page?
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • Bookmarks and tab titles display garbled text or text from another bookmark until moused over

I just upgraded to Windows 8 and loaded Firefox 18 - I imported my bookmarks HTML file and the bookmarks on the left display either garbage or the wrong title until I mouse over them. They then display correctly unless I mouse over them again. My tabs display bookmark titles until I mouse over them.

Could you try version 18.0.1? Also, please provide us with screen shots? And, you can check if your add-ons are causing this as well.
'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.

  • Opening a folder with multiple bookmarks causes tabs to open continually.

I have a folder in the toolbar that contains bookmarks to all the comics I read daily. In the previous version of Firefox, I could right click the folder and "Open all in tabs". Now it opens them but doesn't stop! It repeats opening the tabs from the top to the bottom of the list.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • When running Firefox with normal view with bookmarks and tabs the display for the tab is jumping up and down about 1/4 of inch - display is ok if used in full screen but when go back to normall havers again. this ony started happening last night after

Am having problems with display hovering in open tabs. I used Full screen last night when browsing for first time and since then when I go back to normal view the window shakes up and down about 1/4 inch and have to go to full screen for steady view. The toolbars are all steady it is only the web page.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Last night after using full screen.

Do you have any saved bookmarks on the Bookmarks Toolbar, or that that Toolbar empty and you have it being displayed??
Try opening View > Toolbars and click on the Bookmark Toolbar item to remove the check-mark, and then see how that affects that "jumping" or vertical oscillation of the UI.
If that doesn't solve your problem, you can try the Firefox SafeMode and verify that problem doesn't exist in that troubleshooting mode.

If it is gone in SafeMode, see this:

  • Lost bookmarks and tabs after upgrade to Firefox 12

Against my better judgment I upgraded to Firefox 12. Immediately all the bookmarks were gone. Every time I started Firefox, I got a "New Tab" with nothing else. No bookmarks. No remembering of the previous tabs. I did a restore and thought I had fixed it since everything came back, however once I shut down Firefox and started it again it was back to the blank Firefox with nothing and "New Tab". I was previously on Firefox 10 and very reluctantly ever upgrade, but I had updated another computer to version 12 with no issues so I said "what the heck, worked once should work again." Wrong. Unfortunately this is my main computer. Please help.

I fixed it by following cor-el's advice below. Make sure to check View->Toolbars->Bookmarks Toolbar when you restart Firefox after doing the solution below.
    Thanks cor-el.
    '''If a places.sqlite.corrupt file exists'''
If your Firefox profile folder includes a "places.sqlite.corrupt" file, one reported fix is to open the Firefox profile folder and, after closing Firefox completely, delete or rename the places.sqlite file and then rename "places.sqlite.corrupt" to "places.sqlite". (If you see any other places.sqlite* files, delete those as well, so that only one places.sqlite file remains.) It is possible that certain security or "cleanup" software (e.g., CCleaner) is causing the places.sqlite file corruption. It is also possible that Firefox was not closed properly, as might happen when your computer loses power with Firefox running, which can cause a corrupt places.sqlite file. Always make sure that you close Firefox properly (e.g., no Firefox processes in the Windows Task Manager) before shutting down the computer. [9]

  • Everything chosen goes into the bookmarks, and won't open

My 77 yr old mother has had something go wrong.  Novice troubleshooter here.  I clicked on the apple icon, then "System preferences" and nothing shows on the screen.  When I open safari, and got o the bookmarks, everything is there.  When I chose "System preferences" from there, the same thing happens.

We need to know what Mac this is and what version of OS X it is running. Also what browser is being used.

  • Firefox 36.0.4 randomly crashes without warning and especially when mutiple windows and tabs are open-never happened earlier, very frequent now.

I am currently researching for an article to write and consequently have many PDFs open simultaneously. I use the Foxit PDF plug in.
However, I've been doing this for very long now and have never faced such crashes where all my windows close without a warning despite there being no other processes running. I get no warning whatsoever. I usually also have YouTube and Gmail open as well. The crashes have happened far too frequently in the past 4-5 days for me to ignore it and assume it to be a rare fault.

enter the menu go to help or ? and start with addons disabled. if it still doesnt work follow this description https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help

  • How to find my Safari bookmarks and passwords without opening safari?

    Hi!
I have a big big problem!
I had a system crash-thought I could recover via TimeMachine and oops there was an error and it turned out impossible. I had a clean install but my problem is that I really needed my old data- I can get it all from Time Machine as I can browse it just like as if I actually had the old system.
I copied the folder "default" from adium into the newly installed adium and there were all my contacts login details etc...
But I have no idea where to find my Safari bookmarks. I really need them. I also have trouble recalling some of my passwords which were remembered by Safari. Please tell me which files should I replace from the old system into the new system in order to retrieve my bookmarks. Thanks in advance for any help:)

    That doesn't help.
why? Have you tried it? what happens?
    Where should I look?
    I need those bookmarks...
Copy the directory /Users/username/Library/Safari from the old disk to the corresponding location on the new one. The file with bookmarks is bookmarks.html from that directory.
However, I think Safari passwords are stored in the keychain. That would be in the directory
    /Users/username/Library/Keychains

  • My favicons are not showing up for all my imported bookmarks as well as certain current bookmarks and when I open the about:config it says "browser.chrome.favicons;false". Shouldn't this be true and how to I change it?

I had to rebuild my computer and when I imported all of my bookmarks they had no favicons. I started getting some of the favicons when I would go to the websight it would reconnect, but now I can't seem to see almost any of them. I did a search on Google and one tech site suggested the about:config file and that the "browser.chrome.favicons;false" should be set to true. But when I toggle it to true and restart Firefox it is once more set to false. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it is really annoying not having those favicons.
Help me Obi Wan Firefox you are my only hope.

The browser.chrome.favicons preference should be set to true, as it is not retaining the value when you restart Firefox, see the [[Preferences are not saved]] article for possible causes.
