Bookmarks & Annotations not saving?

Regrettably I purchased an ebook from an eseller who didnt give me an option to take any format other using DE.
The book is required for some consultative work Im doing. Reading through the book, I marked passages with bookmarks & annotations. Of course I came to the end of session and closed DE
To my horror when I opened DE again. Not one bookmark or annotation was there. 6 hours of work gone!
I read through the minimal help, and there is nothing really about this. Several tests of book marking on my laptop. Workplace workstations and other PCs result in the same disgusting dilemma.
Is this a typical thing of DE? I have checked the EBOOK permission and there is no reference to saying you cannot bookmark. It does allowing printing (limited).
So whats happening? Can anyone assist?

Actually, one of my engineers corrected me, simply mapping your My Documents onto a network drive should work in Digital Editions 1.5. So you might want to try the beta release:

More info about it is available here

I have a new computer and my old drive has my UNSAVED bookmarks on it and I want to import them, how do I do it when the bookmarks are not SAVED?

You can backup the bookmarks on the old computer and create a JSON or HTML backup and restore or import this file in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
You can use an USB stick to transfer the saved bookmarks file to the new computer.<br />
You can also copy the places.sqlite file from that computer to have the bookmarks and the history.

  • Changes to my bookmarks are not saved when firefox is restarted. I already tried deleting places.sqlite, but it is still doing this.

Since I downloaded Firefox 4, I have not been able to save changes to my bookmarks (this includes both adding new bookmarks or deleting old bookmarks). When I make a change, the changes are not saved the next time I restart Firefox. After doing a Google search I found a Mozilla help page that suggested deleting the place.sqlite file. After doing this, Firefox will save changes for a few days, but then go back to not saving the changes. I've done this twice already.

Sounds that you have cleanup or other security software that cause corruption of the file places.sqlite
You need to check the settings of your software and make sure that you exclude the Firefox Profile Folder to avoid such problems.

  • Annotations not saved by Acrobat Reader DC

My annotations are not being saved since the update to AcrobatDC on iOS. I was able to use all of them just before the update. Anyone with the same problem?

discovered that annotations are saved in most other cases When I checked other files. Must have been an incompatible pdf file.

  • Recently migrated to new laptop, backuped with FEBE. Bookmarks, History not saving anything since then

About a month ago I backed up my full profile and bookmarks from my old computer and restored/imported them into the new one using FEBE and the "Import and backup" tab, respectively. Both have the latest (18) version of Firefox. I followed all the steps to restore the old full profile into a new one, and then imported the bookmarks. So far so good.
At the beginning it was all fine, but about a week ago I realised I can't bookmark, nor see any history saved in the corresponding log windows. When I press Ctrl+D I don't get any window asking for confirmation to save the bookmark. When I try to make Firefox Show All History, I get a completely blank page. Nothing at all. I've tried disabling all the extensions to no avail. Still the same problem. I've tried closing and reopening Firefox, restarting the computer, same. I also checked the places.sqlite file, it's fine.
By the way, all the "Ctrl+Shift+B", "Ctrl+D", "Ctrl+Shift+H", "Ctrl+Shift+Del" options are in light grey, as if they had been disabled. On the contrary, the "Show All Bookmarks", "Bookmark This Page", "Show All History" and "Clear Recent History" ones are in black, as normal.
I've tried a few tentative solutions, none has worked so far. Please help. Thank you very much for any comments or observations.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Bookmarks and notes saved when deleting a book from iBooks?

If I delete a book from my iPad or iPhone, do I lose my bookmarks and notes on iCloud? Will by notes reappear if I re-download a deleted book? Thank you.

    Greetings janetk618,
I read your post, and it sounds as though you'd like to learn more about iBooks. You can sync iBooks data such as bookmarks and notes. The following article contains a wealth of information about iBooks:

  • My bookmarks are not saving in Firefox, they will save in other browsers. Any tips why?

Nothing happens when I go to save, or "bookmark" a website. It stopped asking me what folder, and it does not even save in a general list. I'm considering switching browsers.

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

  • Bookmarks are not saving in chosen directory

Since the last Mac Update. when I bookmark a page in folder it is not appearing, yet when searching within 'Show All Bookmarks' ist is showing in the results.
    Any ideas?

    Hello
I found the problem. When I created my firefox profile under LINUX, I used the NAS folder created by my windows workstation, with all the bookmarks. Somehow Firefox LINUX did not like this folder. I created a new NAS profile for LINUX ans imported my bookmarks from The NAS profile created under windows, ans now it works.
Sorry for posting before I had worked enough.

  • Bookmarks sometimes not saved

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [/questions/809291]</blockquote><br>
Sometimes all the newly added bookmarks disappear when restarting firefox.
    1. Tried rebuilding the places database by deleting the Places.sqlite.
    2. Places.sqlite is not write protected.
    3. Tried reseting all the browser.places preferences from about:config.
    4. Tried deleting all the JSON bookmark backups and importing from a manual backup.
    5. Re-installed firefox 4.
What's weird is that it's not happening all the time, like when I start firefox add a bookmark and restart again, it works. But when I have surfed the net for a while and restart the changes made to bookmarks are lost.
Anybody have more bright ideas I should try, to solve this. Nothign seems to work.

I have observed it (again) with 2 days old almost fresh profile (I have imported old boolmarks from HTML export from old profile).
Pages missing in bookmarks are missing in browsing history too.

  • Acrobat bookmark settings not saved

FM 9.0p255, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended 9.4.1 – every time I go to save a book as .pdf, I now have to respecify the bookmark options. Don't remember noticing this before, and it would certainly have irritated me enough to prompt a posting! What's going on?

    Niels,
This problem plagued me for a long time also.
I open the FIRST file in the book, set the bookmarks, and print it to the Adobe PDF printer. Save the file and close it if you want.
Now print the book file to Adobe PDF. In the Print dialog, open the Acrobat settings and check the bookmarks settings; they should be the same as set for the first file. If not, correct. The next time you print to PDF, the bookmarks should be correct; HOWEVER, I always check each time I make the PDF.
I should note that for other reasons, I typically never print the book but only selected files in the book. When I close the Acrobat settings dialog, I believe (but not sure) that Frame saves these settings in all the selected files. But my assumption in all this is that FrameMaker looks in the first file of the book for its current bookmark settings.
Hope this helps. It at least works for me.

  • Audible bookmarks are not saved after sync

I believe this started after the most recent update of itunes but can't say for sure. Once I listen to a portion of an audible (audible.com) program but then connect my ipod to itunes for any reason; charge, add content, etc., it loses the bookmarks. The result is when I go back to continue listening, my audible book starts at the beginning and not where it left off previously. This used to work but stopped about 1 or 2 months ago.

What version of Adobe Acrobat do you use?

  • We have a new iPad Mini.  I cannot save a new Bookmark.  In Safari, I go to "Share" and select "Add a Bookmark" yet when I click on the Bookmarks icon, my saved Bookmark is not there.  Am I doing something wrong?

We have a new iPad Mini, and I'm having inconsistent results using Bookmarks in the Safari icon.
For a long time, on the iPad, I could only see five items under the Bookmark icons and the Bookmarks Bar was empty.
Occasionally, in Safari, the iPad would pick up and display all of the Bookmarks from the Safari browser on my iMac.
Other times, there are only a bare few Bookmarks available on the iPad, the Bookmarks Bar goes away and I cannot save a new Bookmark.  It looks like I can save one, but I cannot find it after allegedly saving.
Then, all of the Bookmarks will come back and I can save a new Bookmark again. We can't figure out why all of the Bookmarks will show and then they won't.
I want to think this involves iCloud some way, but for right now, I'm stumped.  Perhaps we're just too inexperienced and haven't come around the learning curve yet.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue.  When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab.  But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back.  When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
    Thanks.

  • I am able to change and add bookmarks, but these changes are sometimes not saved when I restart Firefox.

Since updating to Firefox 4, changes to bookmarks are saved sometimes after restart, but not usually (maybe 25% of the time). The problem sounds exactly like what is described on the [[Bookmarks not saved]] help page, yet after making all the recommended changes, the problem persists. I have also performed the recommended actions on the [[Toolbar keeps resetting]] help page, with no luck there either.
The only other thing that I can think of that may be helpful is that I use Firefox Sync between two computers, and both seem to be having this problem.

I have some more information, in case it helps. During one Firefox session, I made about 8 changes to my bookmarks. When I restarted Firefox, the first few changes I had made were saved, but the rest were not. Additionally, the favicons that were present during my last session (that I hadn't had before that session) were reverted to the default favicon. I hope this helps!

  • Safari 6.0 is not saving my bookmarks after restart

Just bought Macbook pro and noticed that my bookmarks weren't saving after rebooting.   Bookmarks are there if I close and reopen Safari, but not after rebooting.   Haven't installed any 3rd apps/extensions except flash.   Also running Kapersky.  Appreciate any help on this.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Greetings. Can you please tell me why a bookmark is not always saved in the chosen folder? Also, Firefox crashes shortly after opening, periodically. (Both of these problems have been happening with different versions for sometime now.)

The bookmark problem occurs when I am creating a bookmark. When it occurs, the page is saved to another folder that was recently accessed, and random other folders' names are changed to the same name as the folder where the new bookmark was incorrectly saved.
The browser crashes only shortly after I open it, and I am closing a tab.

Bookmarking with Ctrl+D will bookmark to previously chosen folder.
'''Bookmarking with the bookmark star''' will bookmark to "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder (default), unless you have modified behavior with an Extension. The "[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/3880/ Addbookmark Here2]" extension has some [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/addbookmarkhere2.txt options] that might be confusing and are optional for those who are looking for old behavior.

Please post only one question in a post, people looking for answers are going to be confused when looking for answers to either problem. For the secondary problem a Google search on [http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&newwindow=1&q=site%3Akb.mozillazine.org+-intitle%3Atalk+-inurl:%22/index.php?title=%22+-inurl%3A%22%2Findex.php%3Ftitle%3D%22+crashes+-intitle:talk&btnG=Search crashes] in the MozillaZine KB may help, particularly the first two hits.
