Bookmarks appearing on toolbar with boring folder as icon!

When I want to bookmark a page, it saves it on the toolbar with a boring looking folder as the icon, rather than say the blue 'F' of Facebook. Why does this happen?

Does the Favicon for that new bookmark appear when you '''''use''''' that bookmark for the first time?

Can't find out how to organize my bookmarks. can't do it after updating. You say you have a lot of duplicate bookmarks, and want to know how to organize bookmarks, but from the pictures shown, I really only see a news subscription, some sample bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar that you don't display on the toolbars so I don't see point in deleting anything there most of it are reports from the database or from a news subscription nothing of much concern, really. I would dump the news subscription if you don't use it.
How do you want to arrange your bookmarks, but you must keep within some boundaries of what was expected of the three major folders.
Bookmarks Menu -- this is your folder categorized bookmarks, originally all bookmarks were in this folder and the bookmarks toolbar was one folder within -- that has changed.
Bookmarks Toolbar -- intended to be visible on the toolbar with main bookmarks and folders spread out horizontally to save one level of drilling down into folders, with very few bookmarks and folders visible on the toolbar but quickly accessed. You can use the bookmarks showing essentially as buttons a few primary bookmarklets. You can have folder structure there so you could actually have thousands of bookmarks there within folders.
Unsorted Bookmarks (no folders within by intent not by restriction) -- new concept to not categorize bookmarks into folders because of bookmark tagging. Delicious.com will show you what they intended where you have lots of people. I think the concept of tagging breaks down with one person. The other reason bookmarks no longer had to be put into folders was the "AwesomeBar" feature of Firefox that is a great feature it will find bookmarks whatever folder they are in -- I hope you are familiar with it. You can throw bookmark separators into any folder but they are especially useful in the unsorted bookmarks folder, especially if you sort the folder. In other words a group probably within a date range.
So how do you see yourself categorizing your bookmarks ?
I'd like to get an idea of '''how many bookmarks '''you have altogether and how big your places.sqlite file is. To find out how many bookmarks you have all together bring up the Bookmarks Library list, place a colon (":") into the search field this will do a find on all of your bookmarks. At the bottom of the library window you will see the total number of bookmarks you may have to nudge the vertical scrollbar down, and as long as no bookmarks are selected you will see an '''item count'''.
Open your profile folder Help > Troubleshooting information... then click on "Open containing folder" then looking in bookmarkbackups folder and report size of last .json file in there -- hope you can see the extension the filenames have dates.
From the library list you can see if you actually do have a lot or any duplicated by eyeballing the list sorted by the location. You don't want to delete anything yet until you know what you want to do and what folders the bookmarks actually in, as you would not want to delete a categorized bookmark for an uncategorized one.
I have 1256 bookmarks, a bookmarks backup file (.json) is 1849 KB.
I have 750 of those bookmarks have a keyword shortcut -- most of my bookmarks may not actually be bookmarks to webpages.
Install the "Show Parent Folder" extension, it would be important for manually categorizing and deleting bookmarks.

At some point you will want to install the "Sort Places" extension that allows you to sort folders recursively in a matter of seconds. Only sort when you want to sort, never automatically.

The columns in the bookmarks library list that I show are
:Name, Location, Parent Folder, visit date, visit count, Keyword, Description, Last Modified
The important columns for eliminating duplicates are
:Name, Location, Parent Folder, Keyword, Description
:if you have Tags then that column would also be important not to delete the bookmark
Sort on Location look for duplicates, expect you won't find as many as you thought you would, because Firefox makes it difficult to create duplicates if you use the bookmarks star. I wouldn't delete any until you really know what you want to do, if you have duplicate you would not want to delete one a primary location based on parent directory or the one you use with a keyword.
I don't really think you have much to delete in your toolbars list, they are basically examples. Would highly recommend you keep something in the bookmarks toolbar even though you are not displaying it.
The only case of having major duplicates are if you have imported bookmarks at the bottom of your bookmarks menu also named bookmarks menu or something similar. You would see that in the parent folder column -- you cannot sort on the parent folder column.

How can I display my bookmarks toolbar with text only, but still have the rest of my toolbars (search, navigation, tabs, etc) display icons?

I have a bunch of bookmarks in my bookmarks toolbar. How can I make my bookmarks toolbar display only text but have my other toolbars (navigation, etc.) display only icons? It seems like I have to choose between icon, icon and text, or text for all of the toolbars. I want it to look like it did with my old version of Firefox. (Assuming you don't have a firmware boot lock set)
First easy step...
1. Shut down the computer if it's on (hold the power button down... until it shuts off)
2. Press the power button
3. Immediately press AND hold the Option key ASAP
Hold until drive option images appear in a single row across the screen. Typically most people running 10.7 or 10.8 will see 2 drive options to boot from: the main volume they usually boot from, and a recovery volume. If your main volume pops up. Use the cursor or arrow keys to highlight/select the main volume and press enter. That should boot your main volume. Let me know what you get from this point... I'll give you more as you go along.

the zip folder lists download instructions in different languages. it doesn't have the option of setup.exe.
after I finished downloading, the zip folder appeared along with a white box. Whenever I click on the white box it reads as an extractor, which I go thru too, yet the software icon does not appear.
I purched Adobe Photoshop & In Design. My computer is a Dell with Windows8.

Did you setup a lock code? I have done this operation via iCloud just few minutes ago and it's booted with 4 numbers lock code just fine. When you lock your Mac, it's restarts automaticly and then loads with lock screen and you are only able to enter password of 4 numbers to unlock it.

How can i recover my old browser with all my bookmarks and its toolbar

My laptop was running perfectly well till yesterday. today when i opened my laptop there was a HP update required massage window I pressed O.K as always. After a while when update was completed it has put a funny wall paper on my lap top, and worse, my internet browser has been removed. I changed my browser back to Mozilla Firefox, but now I lost all my bookmarks and its toolbar.
I also lost all my user I.Ds and password linked to these I.Ds. Now how can I recover this information? I did ran system recovery couple of time from last months dates but I still unable to get the setting of my orignal browser.

You want to restore your files after a refresh.
Once you have run a refresh on your PC everything that was not preinstalled on the system is deleted.
The only way to get the information back on your PC is to have a backup of everything on an external drive.

Open Finder. Under Preferences > Sidebar > Devices > check Hard disks.
Navigate to your home folder from "Macintosh HD" (or whatever the name of your boot volume is) in the finder. Set the view to column.
Once you reach the path of your home folder, select it, hold down the key combination option + command and drag the alias to your desktop.

I want to access my Bookmark Toolbar with the Apple Key

Is there a way to have Firefox access the bookmarks in my bookmarks toolbar using the Apple Key + a number key?
For example, hitting Apple+1 would go to the first bookmark on my toolbar, Apple+2 would go to the second, etc.

Some Bookmarks Missing from Toolbar

Recently about 1/3 of my toolbar bookmarks will not show up on the actual toolbar. When I go to Bookmarks and then Bookmarks Toolbar, the last three are missing. However, when I go to Bookmarks and then Organize Bookmarks, the missing ones still appear under the folder here. I've tried readding them to the toolbar but when I restart firefox they go missing again.

There are a couple possibilities:
# There are too many bookmarks in your toolbar, so some are hidden. (Check the dropdown menu at the end of the bookmarks toolbar to see if they're here)
# There may be a problem with the toolbar settings. Launch Firefox in [[Safe Mode]], choose '''Reset toolbars and controls''', and press '''Make changes and restart'''.

Why don't my bookmarks appear when I click on Bookmarks? Instead I have click on a half a dozen items, menu's, etc.

This is ridiculous. The INTENT of having "Bookmarks" is to have them easily accessible. Why do we have to click a half dozen menu's just to see the bookmarks? Should click "Bookmarks" and bookmarks appear.
When you bookmark a Book, you go RIGHT to the page you want. You don't have to go to the library index, find what book, what author, how often you use this book, table of contents, find what chapter, find what page, etc.
This is ridiculous. I'm going to use another browser.

In what bookmarks folder are the bookmarks located that you try to search?
You can click the "Show your bookmarks" button that is positioned next to the star on the location/address bar to get a drop-down list with the bookmarks.
Only bookmarks that were created by clicking the star once and that haven't been moved out of the Unsorted folder can't be reached directly.
You can also open the bookmarks sidebar via that drop-down list or use the Ctrl+B shortcut to have the sidebar where you can use its search bar to find a bookmark.
For easiest access you can move a bookmark the the Bookmarks Toolbar folder and have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible.
*"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars

I can't save bookmarks to my toolbar. Help Please

I have a new Macbook Pro and when I migrated everything over, nothing moved with Firefox.
I am now trying to add bookmarks to my toolbar and they are not being saved in the toolbar. I have closed and reopened Firefox, have the latest version and nothing is happening.
When I Show all my bookmarks it shows them in a folder. When I try to re add them to the Toolbar, they will not stay.
Please help and please dumb it down.

It is possible that you do not have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.
*Firefox menu button > Options/Preferences
*View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the hidden Menu bar)
*Right-click empty toolbar area
Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
*check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup
